No Room for Parody

January 18, 2015

No Room for Parody, American ThinkerClarice Feldman, January 18, 2015

I was sound asleep when the phone rang and so I cannot be absolutely sure the conversation was not a dream, but it seemed real enough.

“Hello,” the caller began. “My name is Mr. Mensch, I am president of the Parodists of the World, professional comedy writers, and we want to engage you in a suit against the administration for tortious interference with our livelihood.”

“What exactly are you alleging, I mean specifics?” I responded.

He then launched into a litany of grievances against the administration which the Parodists claimed had made it impossible for them to continue making a living.

“First, our country sent no one to the important anti-terrorism demonstration in Paris, and then there’s Valerie Jarrett calling the march against the slaughter of innocents in Paris a ‘Parade’, as if this were some sort of celebration.‘ Certainly We Would Have Loved To Participate In The Parade,” But We “Got The Substance Right”’.” She said and then proceeded to claim that Holder couldn’t attend because he was in a very important terrorism conference at the time, forgetting that we knew everyone else at the conference made it to the march except Holder. So at the time of the march he was meeting with himself, it seems.”

“Well, that was silly, “I agreed.  “And?” I waited for the next item.

“Then our secretary of state, John Kerry, whose entire life has been fashioned around his self-imagined superior diplomatic skills and international affairs expertise, shows up speaking execrable high school level French, accompanied by  an aging ex-druggie who sings to the grieving French ‘You’ve Got a Friend’”

“I have to agree that was preposterous and really embarrassing. One wag suggested the French ought to respond by having Carly Simon sing, ‘You’re so Vain’ to the President and his Secretary of State. ‘Send in the Clowns’ comes to mind.”

“It’s all of a piece you know. It’s cutting substantially into our employment prospects. Let me read this to you,” Mensch said:

“ ‘A scandal has erupted in the American Consulate in Jerusalem, as three Israeli security guards have quit following a plan to hire 35 armed Palestinian guards from East Jerusalem. The Palestinians have been undergoing weapons training in Jericho in recent days. The decision to hire and arm the Palestinian security personnel was made by the consulate’s chief security officer, Dan Cronin. The plan is to employ them mostly as escorts to American diplomats’ convoys in the West Bank. Their operating base will be at the consulate in the city’s west, as well as six other facilities around the city belonging to the consulate, of which five are in western Jerusalem.

The plan is a breach of a 2011 agreement between the consulate and the Israeli government, which determined that only former IDF combat soldiers hired by the consulate would be allowed to carry weapons. That year, Israel gave the consulate approval to keep about 100 guns for its security guards, but only if they’re American diplomats or Israelis who served in the army. While the consulate employs scores of guards from East Jerusalem, they have not been armed up until now.’”

“Sounds like a bad joke to me,” I replied. “With the world’s attention focused on Moslem extremists. New jihadi groups showing up all through Europe, and Palestinians continuing to attack our ally Israel  and we train and arm Palestinian guards to protect us in Jerusalem in violation of  our agreement with Israel?”

“Even the liberal foreign policy pundit Leslie Gelb is concerned that the administration is absolutely clueless,” sputtered Mensch.

“And he keeps releasing men from Gitmo who then return to fight against us. He released Mullah Abdul Rauf and immediately on his return he’s recruiting for the Taliban in Afghanistan.”

By this time Mensch was on a roll.

“The White House spokesman, Josh Earnest is tripping over his own tongue trying not to say the magic words ’Moslem extremist’. Listen to this circumlocution of his: ‘We want to describe exactly what happened. These are individuals who carried out an act of terrorism. And they later tried to justify that act of terrorism by invoking the religion of Islam and their own deviant view of it.’”

“Then there’s the nonsensical negotiations with Iran,” I interjected.

Mensch sputtered, “Thursday Obama announced he would not tighten sanctions on Iran which is violating the sanctions already in place because if we tighten the reins it will only drive them to war. Think about that! If we impose stricter sanctions on them, they’ll go to war, and if we don’t, they’ll go to war with nuclear weapons.”

“That’s nothing to joke about,” I said.

“Precisely! Obama‘s leaving us nothing to parody. We can’t make a living in comedy. He and his administration are themselves the joke. We might as well just send in news clippings to our editors as try to dream up anything wackier than what they’re doing. And, look, it’s not just foreign affairs. Take the Keystone Pipeline — I mean it should be clear to everyone that we are hurting Iran and Russia financially each time we and others increase the supply of gas and oil on the world market and we need jobs badly, so why is he still sitting on this? George Will captured this bit of nuttiness,” he added and I heard the rustle of newspaper as he read this to me.

Actually, there no longer is any reason to think he has ever reasoned about this. He said he would not make up his mind until the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled. It ruled to permit construction, so he promptly vowed to veto authorization of construction.

The more Obama has talked about Keystone, the less economic understanding he has demonstrated. On Nov. 14, he said Keystone is merely about “providing the ability of Canada to pump their oil, send it through our land, down to the gulf, where it will be sold everywhere else. That doesn’t have an impact on U.S. gas prices.” By Dec. 19, someone with remarkable patience had explained to him that there is a world market price for oil, so he said, correctly, that Keystone would have a “nominal” impact on oil prices but then went on to disparage job creation by Keystone. He said it would create “a couple thousand” jobs (the State Department study says approximately 42,100 “direct, indirect, and induced”) and said, unintelligibly, “Those are temporary jobs until the construction actually happens.” Well.

“I understand your distress,” I sympathized, “but to make your case you have to prove that Obama intended to harm your business, and as Will notes it’s just that he isn’t that smart.”

“C’mon,” the parodist, countered, “Almost every professor in America supported and voted for him. Are you calling them all stupid?”

US Army soldiers to train “moderate” Syrian rebels.

January 16, 2015

Now all the U.S. Army has to do is figure which rebel is a fighter and a member of ISIS or Al Qaeda.

BY Tzvi Ben-Gedalyahu

US Army soldiers to train “moderate” Syrian rebels.

The Obama administration has announced that 400 U.S. Army soldiers will be deployed in Middle Eastern countries to train more than 5,000 “moderate” Syrian rebels.

Support systems and personnel also will be deployed at the training bases in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar, according to Defense Dept. spokeswoman Elissa Smith.

President Barack Obama has maintained a policy that no American soldiers will set foot in Syria to help put an end to the civil war that has raged almost four years and has turned the Islamic State into a household world.

Obama apparently has decided on training rebels since the American-led aerial campaign against ISIS has not stopped the beheaders from actually taking over more territory in Syria.

The war has attracted the participation of almost every big-name terrorist group in the world, and each rebel group has appeared to be as barbaric as the army of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

There are apparently enough surviving “moderates” whom officials in the Obama administration  want to train, but Reuters reported that it will take 15,000 rebels to take back territory held by the Islamic State (ISIS), which has become Obama’s favorite target in the Middle East, even more than the ‘peace process.”

He also has authorized 3,000 troops to act as advisers in Iraq, which was supposed to have become a freedom-loving democracy long ago as a result of the American foreign policy program.

Now all the U.S. Army has to do is figure which rebel is a fighter and not a terrorist, meaning which one is “moderate” by not belonging to ISIS or Al Qaeda.

“We … know the Syrian opposition better now than we did two years ago through the programs we’ve had providing non-lethal assistance,” Smith said.

In the understatement of the day, an unidentified senior defense official told Defense One, “This is going to be hard. We have to recruit the guys; we have to assume that there are a lot of guys who are recruitable; there’s got to be some vetting. This is not going to be an easy enterprise here.”

A thought experiment about Islam

January 15, 2015

A thought experiment about Islam, Dan Miller’s Blog, January 15, 2015

(The views expressed in this article are mine, and do not necessarily reflect those of Warsclerotic or its other editors. — DM)

A religion which blesses and encourages the slaughter of those who offend it or its “prophet” should be condemned, not praised, unless and until it stops doing both.

On January 14th, I posted an article titled Obama plans to restrain media offensiveness to Islam. As a thought experiment, this less than obviously relevant cartoon appeared at the top:

Islamic pig

I considered the cartoon offensive and hope that everyone else did too. It might depict Mohamed, or it might not. Beyond vague descriptions, likely of questionable value, we have little information about Mohamed’s physical appearance. The cartoon could depict any obese human male wearing a turban. The same is true of other cartoons purporting to depict Mohamed in various poses.

Had a similar cartoon shown instead a Roman Catholic priest or a rabbi on a roasting spit, with a giant pencil extending into his anus and thence through his body and mouth, present day Christians, Jews and those of most other world religions, as well as those of no religion, would quite likely be offended; far less because of the religious significance of the victim than because we do not do that sort of thing to people. We would not on either account murder the cartoonist. Many Muslims might well consider the cartoon funny and approve of what they consider an appropriate consequence of being Jewish or Christian.

As far as I am aware, no world religion other than Islam worships, and seeks to have its followers emulate, a “prophet” or saint who condoned and demanded the killing of those who mocked or otherwise offended him. Mohamed did. Neither Jesus nor Moses did. Nor, as far as I am aware, did any prophet or saint of any other current world religion.

Other Mohamed cartoons of which I am aware do not show him being killed or tortured. For example this cartoon, which inspired the vicious animosity of many Muslims, merely depicts him with a bomb in his turban and gazing with hatred at someone or some thing. It does not depict him being tortured or killed.

turbanbomb1

Rather than consider it offensive, I consider it a humorous way of depicting one (of the many) barbaric things done by Muslims in the name, and with the blessing, of their religion. Current day non-Muslims also use bombs and some of the same weapons. They use more advanced weapons as well. However, they do not generally do it in the name and with the blessings of their religions because of what they perceive as insults to those religions. That is a significant difference.

Modern cultures should not seek to prevent the publication of cartoons presenting Mohamed, or anyone else, in an unfavorable light. Nor should they seek to prevent cartoons of the objectionable type I posted on January 14th. They can also generate controversy and, hopefully, peaceful discussion. A cartoon of the sort suggested above, depicting a Roman Catholic priest or Jewish rabbi instead of Mohamed, probably would generate nothing more than peaceful controversy, aside from the pleasure of some Muslims.

If cartoons cause bad people to kill those who create or publish them, all of the subsequent adverse consequences should befall those who kill, not those who would create or publish more cartoons.Obama is intent upon imposing adverse consequences on the latter, while claiming that those who kill or attempt to kill in the name of Allah act on behalf of no religion. He would, and would have the rest of us, shield the murderers’ coreligionist supporters even from our displeasure. Obama is a disgrace to civilized humanity.

White House chief of staff promises Washington will wage ‘tireless’ fight against Jew hatred

The White House voiced alarm Tuesday at a surge in anti-Semitism in Europe and in France, after last week’s attack in Paris on a kosher supermarket which killed four Jewish people.

The violent assault on the Jewish community in France that took place on Friday afternoon was the latest in a series of very troubling incidents in Europe and around the world that reflect a rising tide of anti-Semitism,” White House chief of staff Denis McDonough said at an American Jewish committee event in a Washington synagogue.

“On behalf of the president (Barack Obama) I am here to affirm our nations’ solidarity to the French people and the Jewish community in France, and around the world, to condemn in the strongest possible terms the violent attacks of last week,” McDonough said.

“We will not waver in our commitment to combat the scourge of anti-Semitism,” McDonough stressed, adding that: “from the president on down, you have my commitment that we will wage this fight tirelessly, and together.”

Recalling Obama’s mentioning this week that France is the United States’ oldest ally, McDonough said “we stand in solidarity with the French people and share this steadfast commitment to the values of liberty, free expression, coexistence and religious freedom that were so cruelly and violently assaulted in Paris last week.”

The kosher market attack, carried out by jihadist Amedy Coulibaly, followed a shooting days earlier at satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, where 12 people were killed by brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi. Seventeen people lost their lives in the three-day killing spree all told.

But the market attack was just the latest to raise fears among European Jews. It followed killings at a Belgian Jewish Museum and a Jewish school in southwestern France in recent years. France particularly has seen numerous incidents of hate crimes, harassment of Jews and the common use of anti-Semitic slogans in anti-Israel demonstrations.

In an emotional speech to the French parliament Tuesday, Prime Minister Manuel Valls spoke out against what he called “the new anti-Semitism,” which was being spread via the Internet.

“How can we accept that in France, we still hear about the death of Jews? How can we accept that people are killed because they are Jewish,” he asked. “When the Jews of France are attacked, all of France is attacked.”

The UN is planning to hold an informal meeting on the growth of anti-Semitism on January 22 in response to a request from dozens of nations, including Israel, the United States and all European Union members.

The 37 countries sent a letter to General Assembly President Sam Kutesa on October 1 calling for a meeting in response to “an alarming outbreak of anti-Semitism worldwide.” That was well before last week’s attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris.

The letter, whose signatories also included Rwanda, Uruguay, Canada and Australia, noted Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s statement last August expressing concern at the spike in anti-Semitic attacks.

“At rallies, crowds have chanted ‘Gas the Jews” and ‘Death to the Jews,’” the letter said. “Firebombs have been thrown at synagogues and Jewish-owned businesses have been vandalized.”

The countries said they were requesting a meeting of the 193-member world body because “a clear message from the General Assembly is a critical component of combatting the sudden rise of violence and hatred directed at Jews.”

Israel’s UN Ambassador Ron Prosor said Monday: “We have a great deal of work to do to move this issue from the headlines to the history books.”

The January 22 meeting will feature a keynote address by French philosopher and author Bernard Henri Levy and speeches by representatives from several countries.

France is home to the third largest Jewish community in the world, with a population of some half a million. Around 7,000 Jews from the country moved to Israel in 2014, a record number that officials expect to be topped in coming years. Jewish Agency head Natan Sharansky recently said he sees over 100,000 Jews moving to Israel from France in the next two decades.

In wake of the killings, Israeli leaders have stepped up a drive for French Jews to move to Israel in the face of increasing anti-Semitism. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was one of those who urged emigration, telling the French Jewishj community that “Israel is your home.”

Such remarks have been said to anger the French government, which has vowed to combat anti-Semitism and defend its Jewish citizens.

French Ecology Minister Segolene Royal, who attended the Jerusalem funeral of the four Jewish victims on Tuesday, reassured the victims’ families and all those gathered of the French government’s commitment to to preserve and protect the Jewish community, which she called “a source of pride” for France.

“Anti-Semitism has no place in France. That is the message given by the millions who marched,” she said. “The messages ‘Je Suis Charlie’ (I am Charlie) and ‘Je Suis Juif’ (I am Jewish) resonated throughout the streets.”

At the funeral, President Reuven Rivlin also called on the world to fight “rabid anti-Semitic incitement,” but stressed his desire to see French Jews move to Israel by positive choice, rather than under duress.

“Much has been said since the murders, on the issue of the immigration to Israel of French Jewry. My dear brothers and sisters, Jewish citizens of France, you are welcome. Our land is your land, our home is your home, and we yearn to see you settle in Zion,” he said.

“However, returning to your ancestral home need not be due to distress, out of desperation, because of destruction, or in the throes of terror and fear. Terror has never kept us down, and we do not want terror to subdue you. The Land of Israel is the land of choice. We want you to choose Israel, because of a love for Israel.”

Abbas-Zaki-small

Apparently we just don’t give the PLO enough money. You can’t expect terrorists to live on under a billion a year. It’s inhuman.

In a recent interview with Russian news network RT, Fatah central committee member Abbas Zaki threatened the US following the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) failed UN bid demanding recognition and Israeli withdrawals.

“The whole world should understand that the US is an enemy, pushing Israeli extremists to carry on with their actions, depriving us of our rights, and supporting Israel in everything,”said Zaki, despite the fact that American and Israeli funding keeps the PA afloat.

The RT report went on to say that Zaki was “comparing the US administration with ‘the cobra’s head,’” and that “Zaki vowed retaliation if America doesn’t change its current stance.”

They can always go back to hijacking planes. They did innovate mass airplane hijacking that Al Qaeda only copied.

Zaki is one of the more notoriously honest terrorists from a group funded by US taxpayers.

Abbas Zaki: “Those Israelis have no religion and no principles… Allah will gather them so that we can kill them.”

He’s an almost honest monster.

The settlement should be based upon the borders of June 4, 1967. When we say that the settlement should be based upon these borders, President [Abbas] understands, we understand, and everybody knows that the greater goal cannot be accomplished in one go. If Israel withdraws from Jerusalem, evacuates the 650,000 settlers, and dismantles the wall – what will become of Israel? It will come to an end.

Of course the media has a long history of ignoring what either Abbas says when they’re on RT.

Around the time that Obama visited him, Abbas gave an interview to Putin’s RT in which he claimed that he was just like Hamas.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no difference between our policies and those of Hamas. So why are they labeled as terrorists? In my opinion, [the EU] can remove Hamas [from the list], why not?”

This is what America continues to fund under Obama.

Nasrallah: Hezbollah has Huge Weapons Arsenal Against Israel

Hezbollah leader boasts that group has ‘whatever weapon comes to mind’ amid rumors of an inevitable war in the north.

Hezbollah has “every type of weapon” in its arsenal, the terror group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah stated Tuesday.

“The resistance in Lebanon has everything the enemy can imagine and not imagine,” he said, in a late-night interview to Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen.

“We have weapons of all types; whatever [weapons] comes to mind,” he added.

According to estimations, Hezbollah already has a rocket arsenal ten times as powerful as that of Hamas. The IDF has assessed that like Hamas, Hezbollah likely is digging terror tunnels into Israel so as to attack, but Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said Tuesday there is no evidence of such tunnels at the moment.

Aside from gaining weapons from Iran, Hezbollah also is estimated to possibly benefit in a $3 billion arms deal the Lebanese army recently sealed with France. Reports have already revealed how weapons and intelligence make their way from the army to Hezbollah, which has a strong presence within the army.

Nasrallah’s remarks surface amid escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

Last month, veteran military historian Aryeh Yitzhaki stated to Arutz Sheva that a future war with the group is “inevitable.”

IDF sources have reported to Arutz Sheva that the army is covertly conducting an investigation of reports that Hezbollah has been building a complex network of terror tunnels.

Security officials stated to Kol Israel Radio in October that the IDF is, indeed, losing control along Israel’s northern borders – and that any attacks by Hezbollah would be disastrous.

Alarm has also been raised after the IDF and Defense Ministry cut guard duty near northern border communities – just one year after a similar move along the Gaza Belt saw an escalation in terror and, eventually, war.

Northern residents have responded to the apparent apathy to the situation by arming themselves, and gun ownership along the Lebanese and Syrian border communities has risen as high as 60% in recent weeks.

Hezbollah itself declared that it was “ready to fight Israel” in October.

Lieberman: “Get rid of Abbas and we can reach an agreement”

The Chairman of Yisrael Beiteinu Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman presented his comprehensive way to obtain peace with the Arab world: “After the departure of Abbas and the overthrow of Hamas, we’ll begin to talk.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman gave a speech this morning at a Foreign Ministry Conference relating to the terror attack targeting the kosher supermarket in Paris and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  “If you’re talking seriously about the political process, you first need to get rid of Abbas,” he said.

Lieberman, who met with Israeli ambassadors across Eurasia, defined the Palestinian Authority Chairman as a significant obstacle on the road to a political agreement.  “The man fights for his own personal survival and thinks about his personal wellbeing, not about the wellbeing of the Palestinians,” the Foreign Minister accused.  “Abbas believes that the only way for him to survive is an escalation in the international arena because it darkens his weakness against Hamas and internal criticism.”

“After Annapolis, we needed to come to the conclusion that Abbas is not a partner for peace, but rather an obstacle,” Lieberman proclaimed.  “He uses rhetoric against conventional terror but facilitates political terrorism.  The recent initiatives cannot be defined as anything but political terrorism.  If we are talking seriously about a political process, we first need to get rid of Abbas in Ramallah and destroy the Hamas regime in Gaza.  Without these two things, all of our efforts are just talk.”

The Israeli Foreign Minister warned of the implications of the Palestinian unilateral appeals at the UN, saying, “What happened, especially in the last month, is crossing all of the red lines.  Another attempt to pass the unilateral decision in the Security Council on the establishment of a Palestinian state and their joining the International Criminal Court in the Hague leaves us no choice but to act against Abbas.  We must not allow the money that is frozen for the Palestinians to ‘thaw’ after a short period of time as it has in the past.  This time, we must make it clear that the money will be transferred only after Abbas is gone.”

He sharply criticized the conduct of the European countries in the face of growing anti-Semitism after the terror attack on the kosher supermarket in France.  “Most of the conversations, around the world and in France, were regarding freedom of expression, on extremism, on Islamophobia, and not on anti-Semitism, and this is very worrying, especially following the terror attacks in Toulouse and the Jewish Museum in Brussels,” Lieberman said.  “We need to stop being so politically correct and we must start telling the truth.  It is the same classic hatred of Jews, just the modern version, and murderous anti-Semitism is the main foundation of radical Islam.”

Channel 2 News/Reuters

“Even the European states that remain silent when Erdogan speaks out against Israel, calling our country a terrorist state, contribute to the murderous hatred against Jews in Europe,” he stated.  “A Europe with a neighborhood thug like Erdogan is bringing the region back to the reality of the 1930’s.”

Islamic supremacists and terror-tied imams from across America will gather in Texas this weekend to hold the annual Stand With the Prophet in Honor and Respect conference, a weekend forum that is being billed as a “movement to defend Prophet Muhammad, his person, and his message,” according to event information.

The Stand With the Prophet in Honor and Respect conference declares that it is trying to start a “movement to defend Prophet Muhammad, his person, and his message.” This theme is strikingly similar to the motive of the Charlie Hebdo jihad killers: after they had murdered twelve people in the Charlie Hebdo offices, one of the gunmen shouted, “We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad.”

This kind of hate-filled rhetoric fuels the violence and murder of freedom loving people.

We will protest this supremacism and stand in defense of free speech. Je suis Charlie!

AFDI to hold “Stand With Free Speech” demo outside anti-free speech “Stand With the Prophet” conference

NEW YORK, January 13: The human rights advocacy group the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) today announced that it will be holding a demonstration in defense of the freedom of speech on Saturday, January 17 in Garland, Texas, outside a conference on “Islamophobia” that seeks to stifle opposition to jihad terror and restrict the freedom of speech, working to further the same Islamic law that led to the Charlie Hebdo jihad massacre.

The Stand With the Prophet event will feature John Esposito, a professor at Georgetown University and head of the Saudi-funded Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown; and Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and close friend of the mastermind of that bombing, the “Blind Sheikh” Omar Abdel Rahman. Wahhaj has said: “said in 1992, “If only Muslims were clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional government with a caliphate.”

AFDI President Pamela Geller said in a statement: “Saturday’s Stand With the Prophet event seeks to combat ‘Islamophobes in America’ – in line with Islamic supremacist groups’ longstanding objective of defaming, smearing and marginalizing anyone who opposes the jihad agenda. They say they want to defend Muhammad – which means to silence those who notice that defenders of Muhammad just murdered sixteen people in Paris, and tens of thousands worldwide since 9/11.”

“Our AFDI rally,” Geller added, “will stand for the freedom of speech against all attempts, violent and stealthy, to impose Islamic blasphemy laws on Americans and stifle criticism of Muhammad and Islam. As Muhammad’s followers kill more and more people, we need critics of him more than ever – and free people need to stand up against these underhanded attempts to stifle all criticism of Islam, including honest investigations of how jihadists use Islamic texts and teachings to justify Jew-hatred, violence, supremacism and oppression.”

Noted Geller: “The United States and other Western nations have paid insufficient attention to the fact that Muslim communities in the West have not made any concerted effort to expel supporters of jihad terror from their midst, and have done nothing at all to teach against the jihadist understanding of Islam, even though they ostensibly reject it. That shows the hypocrisy of this Stand With the Prophet event.”

The goal of  Islamic Cartoonophobic terror is to intimidate critics of Islamic ideology. The right way to respond to the terror attack against Charlie Hedbo is to fight the Islamic/Leftist attempt to isolate critics by reposting the Hebdo Mohammed cartoons.

We stand up for freedom of speech by practicing controversial speech in defiance of those who would censor us. Mere sympathy is not solidarity.

Standing up to the Jihadists takes more than a hashtag. It demands that we practice the freedom they hate so much.

PEGIDA Shows no Sign of Slowing as 25,000 March Against Islamisation

January 13, 2015

PEGIDA Shows no Sign of Slowing as 25,000 March Against Islamisation

via PEGIDA Shows no Sign of Slowing as 25,000 March Against Islamisation – Breitbart.

Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West (PEGIDA) have ‘strolled’ again, but despite a week of Islamist terror in France and the fire-bombing of a German news paper which printed Mohammed cartoons, the German establishment has continued to condemn the movement.

The group has continued its apparently unstoppable growth, leaping from 20,000 last week to 25,000 on the streets of Dresden yesterday, with 30,000 strolling nationwide. The group, which is dedicated to non-violent resistance in the style of the East German protesters who opposed the former hard-line communist regime with weekly ‘strolls’ in the 1980s, this week called upon its supporters to not bring placards depicting Mohammed cartoons.

Some German politicians accused PEGIDA of taking advantage of the tense situation after the France shootings, but the group insisted the attacks proved the point they had been making all along. PEGIDA said: “The Islamists, which PEGIDA has been warning about for 12 weeks, showed France that they are not capable of democracy but rather look to violence and death as an answer”.

Germany Anti Islamization Rally

After roundly criticising PEGIDA in her new year’s address, German chancellor Angela Merkel again made clear moves to signal her disdain for the popular movement while hosting the prime minister of predominantly Muslim Turkey.

Sharing a platform with prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who is thought to be instrumental in Turkey’s slide towards institutional Islam after nearly a century of peaceful secularism, and has been criticised worldwide for his policy of inaction towards the jihadist Islamic State, chancellor Merkel said “Islam belongs to Germany”.

Merkel has announced her intention to march with a Muslim, anti-PEGIDA march today.

The concerted campaign against the anti-Islamisation rallies appears to be having some effect, as the counter-protest movement continues to grow in strength. Some reports suggest up to 100,000 gathered across the country to oppose PEGIDA yesterday.

In recent weeks major landmarks and municipal power companies have turned out the lights during PEGIDA marches to signal their opposition, and children’s ‘propaganda’ cartoons have been broadcast by a taxpayer-funded television station criticising the movement.

The German justice minister called on the organisers to abandon the organisation, calling the movement “simply disgusting”. Despite his position within the government, the Social Democrat politician has been repeatedly seen marching with counter-PEGIDA protest movements.

Despite this, the movement continues to grow, going from 200 to 25,000 supporters strolling over the course twelve demonstrations.

The PEGIDA leadership, headed by self declared apolitical, working-class orator Lutz Bachmann are aware the marches tread a fine line with the state police, who allow the strolls to assemble every week and clear the way of counter-protesting groups. TheLocal reports the remarks of one local Christian Democratic Union politician, who said: “As long as there is no outright racism and xenophobia, they have the right to march”.

Despite the events of last week and a global call for freedom of expression and speech in reaction to the slaying of journalists in France, the overt display of Mohammad within the Dresden stroll could give the authorities the pretext needed to shut the movement down.

The City of Leipzig, where PEGIDA marched for the first time yesterday, initially stated they would enforce a ban on showing images of Mohammad, but later backed down and allowed images at the rally. Commenting on the U-turn, mayor Burkhard Jung said: “Freedom of opinion is a very worthy cause, and against the backdrop of the attacks in Paris it cannot be valued highly enough”.

For many Germans, the terrorist assault against journalism and freedom of speech did not end in Paris on Friday. A handful of European newspapers chose to publish cartoons of Mohammed in solidarity with Charlie Hebdo, with some being on the receiving end of retaliatory attacks for their editorial decision.

Three were arrested after a car pursuit on Sunday as they were spotted outside Danish newspaper the Jyllands-Posten carrying assault rifles and pistols in a “suspicious” vehicle.

Although the weapons turned out to be imitation firearms, and the incident was dismissed as a “prank”, members of the staff at the Jyllands-Posten have had multiple attempts made on their lives since they published cartoons of Mohammed wearing a bomb in his turban in 2005. Along with Charlie Hebdo it was the first mainstream publication in Europe to print such images in the modern age, and many staff members still receive round-the-clock police protection.

The Hamburger Morgenpost was less fortunate this weekend, as its offices were fire-bombed in the early hours of Sunday morning in an apparent retaliation for publishing images of Mohammed last week. The images of piles of charred papers and office equipment piled up in the street outside the gutted office were highly redolent of the fire-bombing of the Charlie Hebdo Paris office in 2011.

PEGIDA have pledged to meet again next week.
