♦ So far, nine out of ten people seeking asylum in Sweden have not had identification. You can then adapt your background story to increase your chances of being granted asylum.

♦ Stockholm’s Chief Press Officer had written that the police might be perceived as racist, and therefore should not report physical descriptions to the public. Ironically, it is the journalists who have more or less forced the police to stop using descriptions such as skin color – by labeling the police “racist” every time a person of color appears on a wanted list.

♦ “There are those who wish to make this an issue of ethnicity. It is not. It is an issue that concerns culture and values. Our free and open society is founded on personal freedom, Western humanitarianism and Christian ethics. These values must not only be upheld, they must be defended.” — Ebba Busch Thor, leader of the Christian Democrats party, in Svenska Dagbladet

January 4: After an autumn of chaos, when huge numbers of asylum seekers flooded into Sweden, the government was finally forced to implement border controls on its border with Denmark. Now, only those with valid identification documents are allowed to board trains and ferries to Sweden — effectively keeping people who have destroyed their IDs out of the country. How long it will take before most asylum seekers bring identification papers — genuine or fake — remains to be seen. So far, nine out of ten people seeking asylum in Sweden have not had identification. They can then adapt their background stories to increase their chances of being granted asylum.

January 5: The alternative news site Nyheter Idag reported that two 15-year-old boys living at an asylum house for “unaccompanied refugee children,” in the small town of Alvesta, were detained on suspicion of raping a younger boy. When the victim reported the incident, the police were alerted and the 15-year-olds were brought in for questioning. One of them has confessed to some of the accusations.

January 6: In another case of homosexual child-rape, two men who claiming to be 16-years-old were arrested on suspicion of raping a boy at an asylum house for “unaccompanied refugee children” in Uppsala. The rape was discovered when the younger boy visited a hospital, along with his legal guardian. One of the suspected rapists was released after being questioned by police, but is still under suspicion. The other was remanded into custody.

The most publicized rape of a boy so far is now awaiting a verdict from the Court of Appeals. In December 2015, two 16-year-olds were sentenced by the District Court to juvenile detention for eight and ten months, respectively. The sentences stand out as extremely lenient, considering what was done to the 15-year-old victim. All involved parties came from Afghanistan and lived in the same asylum house for “unaccompanied refugee children.” One day, the older boys asked the 15-year-old if he wanted to come to the store with them. On their way back, the older boys pushed the 15-year-old onto a muddy field, hit and kicked him, shoved mud into his mouth, and then raped him — twice. They warned him that if he told anyone, he would lose his “honor.” That night, however, the boy broke down and told the staff at the asylum house what had happened.

January 9: The alternative news site Nyheter Idag revealed that the respected daily newpaperDagens Nyheter had covered up a story about the sexual assaults of girls and women (mainly by Afghan men) at the “We Are Sthlm” music festival in 2014 and 2015 — after knowing about at least one of the incidents for a year and a half. Dagens Nyheter, which routinely brands alternative media sites “hate sites,” hurried to place the blame on the Stockholm Police — who partly accepted it. National Police Chief Dan Eliasson promised to investigate why the information had been kept secret.

January 10: An opinion poll showed that 59% of the Swedes support the border identity checks implemented a week earlier. Even in the southern province of Skåne, where many commuters are affected by trains delayed to and from work in Denmark, the identity checks have a solid approval rate. 62% of the people polled in Skåne said that they thought the border controls were a good thing.

January 11: The total number of asylum seekers to Sweden in 2015 was made public: close to 163,000. The most common nationalities were Afghan, Iraqi and Syrian. Afghan arrivals increased exponentially, especially in the form of “unaccompanied refugee children.” 7,049 “children” sought asylum in Sweden in 2014. In 2015, that number had exploded to an unfathomable 35,369 — 66% of which came from Afghanistan. Sweden has now decided to start age-testing asylum seekers claiming to be children. Until now, the “child’s” word has been taken at face value. Officials at the Immigration Service were even instructed not to question anyone who appears to be under the age of 40.

January 12: Rumors flew among liberal Swedish editorial writers that it was, in fact, Russian president Vladimir Putin behind Nyheter Idag’s big revelation about the sexual attacks at the music festival in Stockholm. Isobel Hadley-Kamptz, a former employee of the newspaper accused of the cover-up (Dagens Nyheter), tweeted:

“We know that Russia is actively working to spread disinformation in other countries to lower cohesion and trust. We also know that the populist right-wing campaign is operating on the thesis that society is not to be trusted (especially not the media). And yet, when a populist right-wing site with clear connections to Putin starts a campaign against DN [Dagens Nyheter] and the media, reasonable people go along with it?”

The idea of Putin’s supposed involvement in the Swedish media business was apparently not considered strange by either Dagens Nyheter’s editor-in-chief, Peter Wolodarski, or the prominent columnist, Andreas Ekström, of the respected daily newspaper Sydsvenskan, who both lent their support to the claim that Putin is a puppeteer of the Swedish media.

January 12: Middle-aged men pretending to be teenagers have the right to round-the-clock care in Sweden. The cost is astronomical, but never questioned. If you are 103 years old and Swedish, however, you do not have the same right. A woman recently learned this when she asked to be moved into a nursing home. She suffers from heart problems, angina and dizzy spells, and she has a pacemaker. She uses a walker, but because of the dizziness, her balance is off and she frequently falls. When home-care service helpers come in the evenings she feels uneasy: the caregivers are mostly complete strangers to her. But the municipality did not feel that these ailments were enough to allow her into a home with constant supervision. The 103-year-old woman had to sue the municipality in an Administrative Court, where she finally received a favorable verdict.

January 12: Another cherished myth turned out to be true: the one about police covering up crimes committed by immigrants. The Swedish police, when trying to track down criminals, have explicit instructions not to include descriptions of suspects which could be construed as “racist.”Svenska Dagbladet broke the story after a confidential letter was leaked to the newspaper. The letter had apparently gone out to all police personnel in September 2015. Stockholm’s Chief Press Officer had written that the police might be perceived as racist, and therefore should not report physical descriptions to the public. Ironically, it is journalists who have more or less forced the police to stop using descriptions such as skin color, by labeling the police “racist” every time a person of color appears on a wanted list.

January 13: The leader of the Christian Democrat Party (Kristdemokraterna), Ebba Busch Thor, wants to deport asylum seeker who are sex offenders — even if they have grounds to be granted asylum. In an opinion piece in the conservative daily newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, she wrote:

“If asylum seekers to Sweden commit sex crimes, they should have their asylum application rejected and be swiftly dispatched out of the country. Even for people with residence permits, deportation should be a much more common legal effect.

“There are those who wish to make this an issue of ethnicity. It is not. It is an issue that concerns culture and values. Our free and open society is founded on personal freedom, Western humanism and Christian ethics. These values must not only be upheld, they must be defended.”

January 14: An 18-year-old was indicted for a hand grenade attack against a police van in the Stockholm suburb of Tumba last year. He was charged with attempted murder and various other crimes: two aggravated robberies, weapons offenses, harboring a criminal, and one mugging.

1262 (2)On January 14, an 18-year-old was indicted for a hand grenade attack against police in Stockholm last year. Left: A police van is riddled with shrapnel (left) from the hand grenade attack. The four policemen in the vehicle at the time could have been killed if the van had not been armored. At right, the Malmö police bomb squad disarms a hand grenade found in Landskrona, on September 22.

January 16: The issue of possible media cover-ups of important news in Sweden kept engaging people. “The idea that the media covers things up,” stated Jesper Strömbäck, a professor of media and communication studies, “is reminiscent of a conspiracy theory… To deselect, sometimes, certain information is about news values.”

Strömbäck’s statement led columnist Sakine Madon to ask her colleagues on Facebook and Twitter if they had ever been asked to tone down or avoid topics that could “benefit the [immigration-critical party] Sweden Democrats”? One experienced journalist replied that at several news organizations, there had been an unspoken policy not to favor the Sweden Democrats and thus contribute to “xenophobia.”

But one does not reveal editorial secrets and get away scot-free. Ms. Madon had to endure a wave of harsh, and mostly unfair, criticism. She wrote in response:

“Instead of engaging in this childish mudslinging, journalists should ask themselves questions such as: What do we do about this problem? Where do we draw the line between activism and journalism? Should we be openly opposed to SD [Sweden Democrats] , or should we stick to being neutral?”

January 18: Two men were indicted for animal cruelty, after they had slaughtered sheep according to halal slaughter [permitted Islamic method of animal slaughter] at a pizzeria in Falkenberg. Halal slaughter does not allow for stunning the animal, and is illegal in Sweden, so the men tried to sneak the two sheep into the restaurant. They were, however, observed by a witness. When the police arrived, the sheep were already dead and lying on the concrete floor in a pool of blood.

January 18: The number of sexual assaults in public bathhouses skyrocketed in January. Newspapers were filled with stories about “cultural clashes” in bathhouses. Distressed bathhouse staff members called for adults to take responsibility for the “unaccompanied refugee boys” who grope girls. On this particular day, an asylum seeking 16-year-old was arrested by the police when he, along with a gang of other immigrant youths, molested a 15-year-old Swedish girl. “At some point he tried to run his fingers under the bottom of her bathing suit. The youths also touched her breasts over the bathing suit and grabbed her legs,” the county police officer in charge, Kenneth Sundin, told the local daily newspaper Upsala Nya Tidning.

January 18: Female bus drivers in Lessebo felt they had no choice but to call in sick after being harassed by newly-arrived migrants. The altercations have mostly been about migrants trying to use invalid tickets, and not accepting the driver’s refusal to let them on board without proper travel documents. Evenings and nights have been particularly troublesome. According to one bus operator, the problems could have been avoided “if the Immigration Service staff had handed out written information in several languages that explained to the newly arrived immigrants what the rules are.” Some drivers, to avoid trouble, simply let the migrants do as they pleased. One father, for example, demanded that as his wife had an appointment to visit a prenatal care facility, his whole family be allowed to travel for free. The driver was told to shut up, and finally gave in and let them ride the bus for free.

January 18: The National Alliance for Sexual Enlightenment (Riksförbundet för sexuell upplysning), RFSU, demanded mandatory sex education for all “unaccompanied refugee children.” However, the Alliance did not want just any old dusty sex education — it demanded that the classes should be conducted from a “norm-critical gender perspective.”

After the recent reports about sexual assaults against women in Stockholm, Kalmar, Cologne and other places, RFSU said it felt that the time was right for young men from highly patriarchal societies to become “norm-critical.”

In an op-ed, RFSU wrote: “Sex education built on a gender conscious and norm critical foundation has turned out to be a key factor not just to strengthen the youths’ health, but also to counteract gender based violence. This is true of all young people, regardless of background. It is a right and a possibility that Sweden must not neglect.”

January 19: The huge influx of young men to Sweden has given the country a skewed gender balance that is quite unsettling, according to Professor Valerie M. Hudson, of the Program on Women, Peace and Security at Texas A&M University. In the Swedish daily Göteborgs-Posten, she wrote: “My research shows that there are several negative consequences to society when imbalance in the gender distribution increases, something that Sweden needs to have a serious discussion about.”

The imbalance is overwhelmingly due to immigration. The extremely large migration to Sweden in 2015, in which 71% of the immigrants were males, has increased the imbalance in gender distribution significantly. “From official immigration statistics,” she went on, “one can conclude that at the end of 2015 there were 123 16-17-year-old boys for every 100 girls in the same age span.” Comparatively, China, which has one of the world’s largest imbalances in gender distribution, ‘only’ has 117 boys for every 100 girls in the same age group. “Having studied gender distribution in China and India for 15 years, it is amazing to me that Sweden has a worse imbalance than either of these two countries.”

In the article, Professor Hudson also lists several reasons why gender imbalance is dangerous, and wonders: “How is it possible that Sweden, one of the most acknowledged feminist countries in the world, does not seem to care about such sharp fluctuations in gender distribution?”

January 19: At the school Sjumilaskolan in the Biskopsgården area of Gothenburg, anarchy is said to be prevalent. According to a report from the School Board (Skolinspektionen), the school’s teachers are afraid of their own students. At Sjumilaskolan, about 60 languages are spoken; fewer than a third of the students pass all subjects; violence, threats and abuse are commonplace, and no adults at the school dare put a stop to any of the misconduct. Last semester, shootings occurred in the schoolyard, and now several students say that they do not dare to go to school anymore.

The School Board report states:

“Some teachers have told us that they themselves have been in verbal and physical conflicts with students, and that the teachers are sometimes afraid that students will kill each other. The teachers describe a general anxiety at the school, and also tell us that they feel there is a risk that riots will occur in the high school.”

In November 2015, about a week after the School Board’s inspection, there was indeed a riot at the school, during which students smashed chairs, tables and paintings in one of the classrooms, and the teachers had to call the police to stop the unrest. The School Board now demands that Gothenburg municipality immediately address the problems at Sjumilaskolan. If the problems have not been dealt with by April 29, the municipality will face a 700,000 kronor ($82,000) fine.

January 20: Former terror suspect Mutar Muthanna Majid demanded one million kronor ($117,000) in damages from the Swedish government. According to his lawyer, Peter Ataseven,“He was suspected of very serious criminal activity. But above all, he has suffered from the media coverage, since he was depicted as a terrorist and has had his name and picture publicized.”

What prompted the Security Service to arrest Muthanna Majid on November 18 — why he was suspected of preparing terrorist attacks, raising the threat level in Sweden to a four on a five point scale and unleashing a massive manhunt — is still a mystery. The police at the time seemed confident, and most media outlets published the name and photograph of the suspect. The next evening, November 19, a large police force apprehended Majid at the asylum house in Boden where he lived. He was questioned, but three days later, the District Attorney decided to release him; he was no longer suspected of any wrongdoing.

January 24: The Stockholm police warned that they could no longer cope with the pressure of dealing with the Moroccan street kids running wild in the city. There are hundreds of young men from Morocco and other North African countries staying illegally in Sweden, mainly in Stockholm and Gothenburg.

SVT Nyheter, a public television news program, talked to a police officer who asked to remain anonymous:

“These guys are a giant problem to us. They steal things everywhere and beat up the security guards at the central train station. They grab girls between their legs and slap them when they protest. The police all know about this. The situation is abysmal – I would never let my children go to the train station; no policeman would.”

A few days later, some vigilantes seemed to have decided to “clean up” the streets. According to several media sources, a large gang of masked men at the Stockholm central train station handed out flyers that contained messages along the lines of “enough is enough!” The flyers encouraged people to take the law into their own hands, find any street kids in the area and “give them what they deserve.”

When the incident was widely publicized in the mainstream media, suddenly the street kids were renamed “unaccompanied refugee children.” Strangely, the police have yet to receive a single complaint about abuse from the street kids, and there is a question if any attacks ever took place at all.

January 24: Mauricio Rojas, who for many years was the “integration policy” spokesperson for the Liberals, wrote in a column in Svenska Dagbladet:

“A country once characterized by a remarkable sense of solidarity — all the things the Swedish welfare state represented — has in a couple of decades been transformed into a multi ethnic community, where the bonds of fellowship between people have been significantly weakened.”

Rojas, once an immigrant from Chile to Sweden, had been considered too rough on immigrants; he was therefore outmaneuvered by the Liberals. He left the Parliament — and left Sweden — in the fall of 2008, and moved to Spain. Now and again he makes an appearance in the Swedish immigration debate. Few Swedes would have dared write what he wrote:

“These changes raise concerns for many people and pose important questions about the future towards which we are heading, in terms of national fellowship. We know how things were, but no one knows how they will be, and there are many who feel that Sweden has lost its soul and become a multicultural chaos. That is why nostalgia and a painful sense of alienation are growing in this country, but also a desire to pause, or at least slow down, the speed of transformation.”

January 24: Sweden’s universities and colleges had looked forward to a replenishment of their budgets by a total of 303 million kronor (over $35 million), but the money has been withheld. According to Social Democratic Minister for Higher Education and Research, Helene Hellmark Knutsson, the money will instead go to covering the “hugely increased costs in 2016 due to the large number of people fleeing from war and terror, and seeking asylum in Sweden.”

January 24: Another case of homosexual rape was uncovered at an asylum house, this time in the southern town of Ljungby. The police arrested a 22-year-old migrant, suspected of having molested a 15-year-old boy where they both lived.

January 25: 22-year-old Alexandra Mezher was stabbed to death by one of the residents at the asylum house for “unaccompanied refugee children” where she worked. The killer, Youssaf Khaliif Nuur, claimed to be 15 years old and from Somalia, and as in Sweden no medical age determination is routinely performed of those claiming to be children, the man was placed among teenagers. When the British newspaper, the Daily Mail, covered his detention and made fun of the Swedish authorities’ having accepted his claim of being 15 years old, the Swedish mainstream media labeled the Daily Mail a “hate web site,” much like the alternative Swedish media web sites, Avpixlat and Fria Tider. For some reason, the Daily Mail blocked most of their articles about the case for Swedish readers. Legal reasons were cited, but many speculated that government censorship was involved. In February, when the Immigration Service finally concluded that the suspected killer was not 15 but over 18 years of age, the correction was laconically reported by the Swedish media.

January 26: The Svea Court of Appeals increased the sentence for Congolese immigrant Loran Guy Mogi, who murdered his pregnant girlfriend, Therese Eriksson, in the town of Vårgårda. In the District Court, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison and deportation, but the Court of Appeals increased his sentence to life in prison: “Add to this,” the Court of Appeals wrote, “that (the woman) was pregnant and that the pregnancy was rather far gone, which X (the accused) was well aware of. In the Court of Appeals’ estimation this is a highly aggravating factor, because X by strangling the woman not only killed her, but also a budding life. In light of these facts, the court feels that the penalty value is life in prison.”

Police in Rotherham Turned Blind Eye to Islamic Child Rape Ring

February 25, 2016

Police in Rotherham Turned Blind Eye to Islamic Child Rape Ring, Counterjihad.com, February 25, 2o16

The Times of London reports on new evidence of police complicity in a child rape ring being run by Pakistani Muslims in Rotherham, England.  The ring groomed and then raped children for a decade and a half before it was broken up.  The authorities were repeatedly informed, as early as 2002, but agents did not want to risk their careers in an environment of intense pressure not to seem racist or critical of Islam.  There was a Home Office investigation into charges that Tony Blair’s government had known of the ring as early as 2001, but did nothing because it conflicted with “his government’s efforts to pacify Muslim communities.”  Some 1,400 children were raped over the ensuing 16 years.

Now the Times tells us that the police hadn’t just been warned, they knew and were sometimes complicit.

“Corrupt police and an influential politician fuelled a culture of impunity that allowed three brothers to ‘own’ the town of Rotherham and abuse children until their crimes were exposed by The Times. One officer had sex with under-age girls, passed drugs to the sex-grooming gang and tipped them off when colleagues were searching for missing children, a court was told. Another helped to broker a deal in which one brother returned an abused girl to police after receiving an assurance that he ‘wouldn’t get done’. The jury was told that Jahangir Akhtar, the former deputy leader of Rotherham council, also took part in the handover at a petrol station. Mr Akhtar, the former deputy chairman of South Yorkshire police and crime panel, was a relative of Arshid, Basharat and Bannaras Hussain, who behaved for years ‘like a pack of animals’ to pursue dozens of young girls before demanding sex, often with threats of violence.”

This sounds like a story of intense local corruption, and it is.  It sounds like a story of the failure of the police to uphold their most basic oath, and it is that too.  But it is also a story of the ways in which these criminals could rely upon protection from the highest levels of the British government.

The former Prime Minister of England, Tony Blair, is being investigated for having known about the ring as early as 2001.  Blair’s administration suppressed investigations into the ring because it would conflict with his Muslim outreach efforts — outreach efforts being advised by Muslim Brotherhood affiliate groups.  Even today, Tony Blair’s religious charity is accused of ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.  The culture of not questioning Islam or Muslims from on high made possible these corrupt police, who in turn made possible a child rape ring in the heart of England.

Germany’s Migrant Crisis: January 2016

February 12, 2016

Germany’s Migrant Crisis: January 2016, Gatestone Institute, Soeren Kern, February 12, 2016

♦ Despite snow, ice and freezing temperatures across much of Europe, a total of 91,671 migrants entered Germany during January 2016.

♦ German taxpayers could end up paying 450 billion euros ($500 billion) for the upkeep of the million migrants who arrived in Germany in 2015. This would presumably double to nearly one trillion euros if another million migrants arrive in 2016.

♦ A 19-year-old migrant from Afghanistan sexually assaulted four girls between the ages of 11 and 13 at a swimming pool in Dresden. The migrant was arrested but then set free.

♦ Three teenage migrants from North Africa tried to stone to death two transsexuals in Dortmund after they were seen walking around in women’s clothing. The victims were saved by police.

♦ Bild reported that politicians in Kiel had ordered the police to overlook crimes perpetrated by migrants.

♦ “The topics we cover are determined by the government. … We must report in such a way that serves Europe and the common good, as it pleases Mrs. Merkel. … today we are not allowed to say anything negative about the refugees. This is government journalism.” – Wolfgang Herles, retired public media personality.

♦ The European Commission called for the “rejection of false associations between certain criminal acts, such as the attacks on women in Cologne on New Year’s Eve, and the mass influx of refugees.”

In January 2016, the German public appeared finally to wake up to the implications of their government’s decision to allow 1.1 million — mostly male — migrants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East to enter the country during 2015.

After more than a thousand Muslim migrants sexually assaulted hundreds of women in cities across Germany on New Year’s Eve, Chancellor Angela Merkel began to face a rising voter backlash to her open-door migration policy.

Merkel’s government has responded to the criticism by: 1) attempting to silence critics of the open-door migration policy; 2) trying to “export” the migrant problem to other countries in the European Union; and 3) announcing a series of measures — branded as unrealistic by critics — to deport migrants accused of committing crimes in Germany.

What Merkel has steadfastly refused to do, however, is reduce the number of migrants entering the country. Despite snow, ice and freezing temperatures across much of Europe, a total of 91,671 migrants — an average of around 3,000 migrants each day — entered Germany during the month of January 2016.

The following is a review of some of the more notable stories about the migration crisis in Germany during January 2016.

January 1. More than a thousand migrants sexually assaulted hundreds of German women in the cities of Cologne, Hamburg and Stuttgart. The government and the mainstream media were accused of trying to cover up the crimes, apparently to avoid fueling anti-immigration sentiment.

January 1. As Muslim migrants were causing mayhem on German streets, the Minister President of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, said he could not understand public concerns about the “alleged Islamization” of Germany. In an interview with Die Welt, he said: “If you look at the facts, this fear is unfounded. We have a stable democracy and a free society. State and religion are separated. How should Muslims, who represent a minority, Islamize our society?” When asked why Germans are afraid, Kretschmann replied: “People are afraid of strangers they do not know.”

January 1. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimated that 1.3 million asylum seekers would enter the European Union annually during 2016 and 2017.

January 2. A fight between children as young as 11 at a refugee shelter in Stockach near Konstanz turned into a mass brawl after parents of the children joined in the fighting. Police were deployed to restore order. Seven people were injured.

January 3. A 16-year-old Moroccan migrant went on a rampage after a judge in Bremen ordered him to be jailed for stealing a man’s laptop at knife-point. On the way from the courthouse to the jail, the Moroccan seriously injured a police officer by kicking him in the face. Once inside the jail cell, the migrant ripped a toilet from the floor and smashed it against a wall.

The chairman of the Bremen Police Union, Jochen Kopelke, said that migrants were attacking city police with increasing frequency: “The tone has become extremely aggressive; sometimes the police must apply massive force to get a situation under control.” According to Bremen Senator Ulrich Mäurer, “the excesses of violence against police officers show that these people have no respect for our constitutional order and its representatives.”

January 3. More than 50 migrants were involved in a mass brawl at a refugee shelter inEllwangen near Stuttgart. Police said migrants attacked each other with fire extinguishers, metal pipes, rocks and stones. According to local media, mass brawls have become commonplace at migrant shelters in the area.

January 3. Hans-Werner Sinn, one of the best-known economists in Germany, cited estimates that German taxpayers could end up paying 450 billion euros ($500 billion) for the upkeep of the million migrants who arrived in Germany in 2015. This estimate would presumably double to nearly one trillion euros if another million migrants arrive in Germany in 2016.

January 4. An internal report written by a senior federal police officer revealed chaos “beyond description” in Cologne on New Year’s Eve. The report, which was leaked to the news magazineDer Spiegel and published in full by the newspaper Bild, said that women were forced to “run a gauntlet” of drunken men of a “migrant background” to enter or depart the main train station. “Even the appearance of the police officers and their initial measures did not stop the masses from their actions.” One migrant told a police officer: “I am Syrian; you have to treat me kindly! Mrs. Merkel has invited me.”

January 5. Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker said: “There is no reason to believe that those involved in the sexual assaults in Cologne were refugees.” Cologne Police Chief Wolfgang Alberssaid: “At this time we have no information about the offenders.”

January 6. Former Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich said it was “scandalous that it took the mainstream media several days” to report on the sexual assaults in Cologne. He said public media was a “cartel of silence” exercising censorship to protect migrants from accusations of wrongdoing.

January 7. A charity called Refugees Welcome Bonn, which organized a Rhine River cruise as welcoming party for migrants in Bonn, apologized after it emerged that migrants groped and sexually harassed some female guests during the event.

January 8. The Interior Ministry revealed that of the 32 suspects identified in the Cologne assaults, 22 were asylum seekers. Cologne Police Chief Wolfgang Albers was fired for withholding information about the assaults from the public.

January 9. A vigilante group began patrolling the streets of Düsseldorf to “make the city safer for our women.” Similar groups emerged in Cologne and Stuttgart.

January 10. Three teenage migrants from North Africa tried to stone to death two transsexuals inDortmund after they were seen walking around in women’s clothing. The victims were saved by police, who happened to pass by in a car. One of the victims said: “I never could have imagined that something like this could happen in Germany.”

January 11. A 35-year-old migrant from Pakistan sexually assaulted a three-year-old girl at a refugee shelter in Kamen.

January 12. In an interview with Bild, Frank Oesterhelweg, a politician with the center-right Christian Democrats (CDU), caused a scandal when he said that police should be authorized to use deadly force to prevent migrants from raping German women:

“These criminals deserve no tolerance, they have to be stopped by the police. By force if necessary, and, yes, you read correctly, even with firearms. An armed police officer has a duty to help a desperate woman. One must, if necessary, protect the victims by means of force: With truncheons, water cannons or firearms.”

Police union leader Dietmar Schilff was irate: “These statements are outrageous and do not help the police at all. There are clear rules for using the service weapon. What would have happened in Cologne if the police had used clubs and guns?” According to Bild, many German police officers are afraid of using lethal force “because of the legal consequences.”

January 12. A YouGov poll showed that 62% of Germans believe the number of asylum seekers is too high, up from 53% in November. According to the poll, the growing resistance to immigration was being driven by the hardening of attitudes by German women.

January 13. An Interior Ministry report leaked to Bild warned that jihadist attacks like those in Paris could take place in Germany “at any time.” The report said that attacks would likely be spread over several days and against “various target categories.”

January 13. A 20-year-old migrant from Somalia was sentenced to four years in prison for raping an 88-year-old woman in Herford. His defense attorneys argued for leniency because, according to them, the man was traumatized by his flight from Somalia. In Gelsenkirchen, four migrantsattacked a 45-year-old man after he tried to prevent them from raping a 13-year-old girl.

January 14. The Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, approved a plan to provide all refugees with identity cards that will contain information such as fingerprints and country of origin. The cards will be linked to a centralized refugee data system. The plan may be too late: the German government has lost track of the whereabouts of hundreds of thousands of migrants who entered the country in 2015.

In an interview with Bild am Sonntag, the president of the federal criminal police, Holger Münch, said that the number of crimes in refugee shelters had increased “significantly” since 2015, when the migrant influx began. He said that the migrants mostly responsible were from the Balkans and North Africa, especially Algerians, Tunisians and Moroccans. He added that half the offenses at the refugee shelters were physical assaults, but that there was also a growing number of homicides and sexual crimes.

“We have the problem that we are too close to the government. The topics we cover are determined by the government. But many of the topics the government wants to prevent us from reporting about are more important than the topics they want us to cover…

“We must report in such a way that serves Europe [the European Union] and the common good, as it pleases Mrs. Merkel. There are written instructions … today we are not allowed to say anything negative about the refugees. This is government journalism, and this leads to a situation in which the public loses their trust in us. This is scandalous.”

Previously, Claudia Zimmermann, a reporter with the public television broadcaster WDR, said that public media outlets in Germany “have been warned to report the news from a pro-government perspective.”

January 26. A 24-year-old man on an evening stroll with his three-month-old baby daughter in the Eißendorf district of Hamburg was approached by two migrants who demanded his wallet and cellphone. When he said he was not carrying any valuables, the migrants attacked him with a knife. Fleeing for his life, the man ran onto a frozen pond and broke through the ice. A passerby heard the man calling for help. The baby, under water for an extended period, was revived by paramedics called to the scene. The baby remains in intensive care; the migrants remain at large.

January 26. A 28-year-old migrant from Algeria applied for asylum in Wesel. Authorities became suspicious because of his proficiency in German. They later determined that he had arrived in Germany in November 2014, rather than, as he claimed, in October 2015. It emerged that he had outstanding warrants for theft, but evaded police by using six different identities.

January 26. The Kieler Nachrichten reported that the proliferation of sexual assaults by migrants has women in the northern city of Kiel afraid to be out at night because the city is too dark. January 27. The public radio and television channel, Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, reported that German taxi drivers are profiting from the migrant crisis by taking migrants to doctors’ appointments and asylum interviews. The cab fares are being paid for by German taxpayers. MDR reported on a taxi company in Leipzig that had billed the government for 800 taxi fares for taking migrants to run errands. One taxi driver, for example, drove a migrant family on an 80 km (50 mile) journey for an appointment with migration authorities. The meter was left running while the driver waited for the migrants to return from their meeting. The fare was 309 euros ($344).

January 31. A 30-year-old German, originally from Turkmenistan, raped a seven-year-old girl in Kiel. The man kidnapped the girl from a school playground at 11AM, took her to his apartment and, after abusing her, set her free. It later emerged that the man, who is the father of two children, had been accused of sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl at another kindergarten in Kiel on January 18, but the public prosecutors failed to pursue the case due to insufficient evidence. “In hindsight, we regret that decision,” the prosecutors said.

January 31. In an underhanded effort to silence critics of the government’s open door migration policy, Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel called on German intelligence to begin monitoring the Alternative for Germany (AfD), the third-largest party in Germany. Muslim Father who Shot Daughter is the Most Popular Man in Pakistan

Muslim Father who Shot Daughter is the Most Popular Man in Pakistan, Front Page Magazine, Daniel Greenfield, January 31, 2016

honor

Some cultures really are different. And bad. Very, very bad. Rotten, evil bad.

A 19-year-old Pakistani woman named Saba Qaiser fell in love against her family’s wishes and ran off to marry her boyfriend. Hours after the marriage, her father and uncle sweet-talked her into their car and took her to a spot along a riverbank to murder her for her defiance — an “honor killing.”

First they beat Saba, then her uncle held her as her own father pointed a pistol at her head and pulled the trigger. Blood spewed, Saba collapsed and her father and uncle packed her body into a large sack and threw it into the river to sink. They then drove away, thinking they had restored the family’s good name.

Incredibly, Saba was unconscious but alive. She had jerked her head as the gun went off, and the bullet tore through the left side of her face but didn’t kill her. The river water revived her, and she clawed her way out of the sack and crawled onto land. She staggered toward a gasoline station, and someone called for help.

About every 90 minutes, an honor killing unfolds somewhere in the world, usually in a Muslim country. Pakistan alone has more than 1,000 a year, and the killers often go unpunished.

According to M. Steven Fish’s hoax study though, Pakistan isn’t that much more dangerous than America. But murdering women in Pakistan is a victimless crime. In fact, it makes you really popular.

The police arrested Saba’s father, Maqsood, and the uncle, Muhammad, and their defense was that they did the right thing.

“She took away our honor,” Maqsood said from his jail cell. “If you put one drop of piss in a gallon of milk, the whole thing gets destroyed. That’s what she has done. … So I said, ‘No, I will kill you myself.’”

Maqsood said that after shooting Saba he went home and told his wife, “I have gone and killed your daughter.” He added: “My wife cried. What else could she do? I am her husband. She is just my wife.”

Tremendous pressure was applied to Saba by community elders to pardon her father and uncle. In the end, her husband’s older brother — the head of her new family — told her to forgive and move on. “There is no other way,” he said. “We have to live in the same neighborhood.”

Saba complied, and her father and uncle were released from prison. “After this incident, everyone says I am more respected,” her father boasted. “I can proudly say that for generations to come none of my descendants will ever think of doing what Saba did.”

The families still live near each other, although the father insists he will not try again to kill Saba.

This is the culture that mass Muslim migration is bringing to America and Europe. Is it any wonder that  crimes like Cologne happen?

Eurocrats: No Connection Between Migrants Raping Women and Migration Crisis

Eurocrats: No Connection Between Migrants Raping Women and Migration Crisis, Front Page Magazine, Daniel Greenfield, January 31, 2016

Also there’s no connection between cars and traffic. Not a one.

The European Commission will be the “voice of reason” and tell the public that there is no link between the migration crisis affecting the continent and attacks on women in Germany, internal minutes disclose, amid growing fears of a “xenophobic” backlash.

The interior ministry, days after the attacks, said that “people with a migration background were almost exclusively responsible for the criminal acts”.

One perpetrator is alleged to have told police he was Syrian, adding: “You have to treat me kindly. Mrs Merkel invited me.”

So you see… no connection.

Now Eurocrats think there’s a connection between any criticism of the migrant invasion and supposed attacks on migrants. Even when some of the attacks, such as some of the fires, were actually started by migrants. Yet there’s no connection between migrants and migrant crime.

Also there’s no connection between Eurocrats lying to the people and the people hating Eurocrats.

“As far as the crimes in Cologne were concerned, he said that these were a matter of public order and were not related to the refugee crisis,” the minutes say.

All crimes are a matter of public order. But if you fill your countries with the people least likely to be “orderly”, then your migration crisis creates a public order crisis.

During the discussion that followed, Mr Juncker’s team stressed “the importance of the Commission’s continuing to play its coordinating role and sounding the voice of reason to defuse tensions and counter populist rhetoric.”

They called for “the unconditional rejection of false associations between certain criminal acts, such as the attacks on women in Cologne on New Year’s Eve, and the mass influx of refugees.”

At the same time, they agreed that they must “respond to the concerns of European citizens, particularly by stressing that Europe was also a union of security and values.”

Actually it’s a union where security plays second fiddle to values. And those values require the destruction of Europe to save European values. Or rather, Eurocratic values.

Muslims Protest to Support UK Girl’s Rapists

Muslims Protest to Support UK Girl’s Rapists, Front Page Magazine, Daniel Greenfield, January 31, 2016

Support Rapists

They’re not actually carrying out the rapes. They’re just protesting in support of the rapists. That’s the standard we use to distinguish “extremists” from “moderates”. Isn’t it?

But this is a story of an Eid celebration that ended in the traditional fashion with a brutal assault on non-Muslims by the migrants who came over to enrich Europe’s diversity with muggings and rapes.

Three Somali men who gang-raped a white 16-year-old girl in the bathroom of a hotel where they went to celebrate Eid have been jailed for 30 years.

The Somali Muslim migrant community in the UK of course condemned this disgusting crime. And by “disgusting crime”, I mean sending Muslims to jail for raping a woman. And a non-Muslim woman at that. Without the word of four Muslim witnesses.

In dramatic scenes outside the courtroom around 60 members of Manchester’s Somalian community protested against the verdicts suggesting the three men were being ‘victimised’ because of their race, while the victim was a white Brit.

They managed to pile into the public gallery and gasped as the sentences were handed down – while Yussuf flicked a middle finger at the mother of their victim, who was present.

Lovely people. We should bring more of them in. Millions of them preferably.

Ahmed, who was convicted of oral rape, was locked up for nine years whilst Osman got 12 years after being convicted of an unrelated robbery in which he mugged an innocent man on the street for his rings and mobile phone was also taken into account.

The three Muslim Somali rapists have tried to blame the victim. But was the man Osman mugged also leading him on? This is part and parcel of the Islamic attitude to women and non-Muslims.

Judge David Hernandez criticised the group’s attitudes to women and lack of remorse for their innocent victim.

I wonder which prophet, who liked to rape women, they could have gotten it from?

Muslim Refugee Rapes 72-Year-Old Woman, Gets to Stay in Europe

January 30, 2016

Muslim Refugee Rapes 72-Year-Old Woman, Gets to Stay in Europe, Front Page Magazine, Daniel Greenfield, January 30, 2016

Run girl run

Who’s afraid of a few “orphans”? The 72 year-old women who don’t want to be raped by them.

The 72-year-old woman, identified only as Christina F., said: “It was a really hot day and I decided to take my dog for a walk along the Schwechat River, and saw two young men swimming there.”

She said that one of the young men had reached out his hand to her, asking her to help him onto the bank, which she did. She said: “Suddenly, I felt a blow from behind.”

She was grabbed and then pushed to the ground, and the attacker put his hand over her mouth and used his other hand to tear off her clothing.

A friend of the old woman, Hans Vesely, 72, said: “The dog that she had with her was 13 years old and was sadly not up to protecting his mistress from the attack.”

“She is not the same woman anymore. She doesn’t trust being left on her own and does not leave home, and she’s become very weak since the incident,” Vesely said.

The attacker was only caught because he committed another crime after the rape, and was forced to give a DNA sample. The DNA sample provided matched the one found on his elderly victim, and he was arrested.

The teenager, identified only as Wahab M., initially denied the rape, claiming that he was drunk and could not remember what happened. In addition, his friend who was also arrested told police he had not seen anything.

Because at the time he was only 17 years old, Wahab M. was punished by the youth court where the maximum sentence is five years, but because he had no previous convictions and eventually admitted the rape in the face of the DNA evidence, it was reduced to 20 months. The shorter length of sentence means he will not face deportation.

Now if Wahab had done something truly terrible, like be a European who criticizes Muslim migrants, he would be spending years in prison.

The Spreading Scent of Cologne

January 26, 2016

The Spreading Scent of Cologne, Gatestone InstituteDenis MacEoin, January 26, 2016

♦ What appals so many onlookers is that this damage to European societies is being done with open eyes and listening ears, and that many lessons have not been learned.

♦ The mass sexual assaults on New Year’s Eve, and many through the year, are clearly the work of single, mainly young men. In packs, people can more easily give in to anti-social tendencies, but these men from North Africa and the Middle East seem to bring with them social attitudes that make it hard for them to conform with European notions of what is, and what is not, criminal or decent.

♦ Muslim hate speakers are given free rein to address students at many British universities. The double-standard is that the same universities have banned controversial but important speakers or just about anybody who supports the state of Israel. And if speakers are not actually banned, hordes of ideologically-inspired students and outsiders will turn up to disrupt their lectures with shouts, screams, and threats.

The city of Cologne, still famous for its scented water, has become, since last New Year’s Eve, best known for the depredations and misogyny of a growing population of immigrants from North Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere. The events of that evening, when hundreds of women were assaulted, manhandled, and even raped by thousands of migrant newcomers who could not be restrained by the police, spread across the world in days if not hours.

At first, the police played down the seriousness of the incidents, but by January 10th, the BBC reported that the number of criminal cases had risen to 516, forty percent of which were related to sexual assault. According to German police, “Asylum seekers and illegal migrants from North Africa comprise the majority of suspects.” This has been confirmed by Germany’s interior ministry, which has stated that almost all those involved were migrants.

1440A scene from New Year’s Eve in front of Cologne’s central railway station, when hundreds of girls and women were sexually assaulted, mostly by migrants.

Of course, Cologne was only the most prominent city to undergo such an ordeal: According to the Washington Post, “No city was hit harder than Cologne, where gangs of mostly young men are alleged to have ‘hunted’ women, corralling them before groping, assaulting and robbing them.” A smaller number of incidents occurred in other German cities such as Hamburg, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt. In the thirteenth-century city of Bielefeld, more than 500 presumed asylum seekers attacked the Elephant Club , a night spot, and assaulted some of the women there. There were similar cases on the same evening in Austria, Switzerland, Finland and Sweden.

Regular readers of articles by authors such as Soeren Kern or Ingrid Carlqvist at the Gatestone Institute will be fully aware of the widespread breakdown of several European countries as a result of uncontrolled immigration. That includes not just the massive wave of immigration during 2015, but the steady collapse of law and order engendered by earlier influxes of Muslim migrants, notably in Germany, the United Kingdom and France. This has been exacerbated by the problem that, whereas many first generation incomers gradually found ways to integrate within mainstream society, there is a trend among third-generation children to demand rights and concessions above those granted to other citizens.

There are an estimated 750 zones urbaines sensibles (“sensitive urban zones”) in France; many cities in Europe have such high levels of Muslim exclusivity that they have become no-go zones for the police, the fire brigade, social workers and others. According to one report

“It’s not Norway or Europe anymore, except when there is welfare money to be collected. The police have largely given up. Early in 2010 Aftenposten stated that there are sharia patrols in this area, and gay couples are assaulted and chased away. Immigrant Fatima Tetouani says that ‘Grønland is more Muslim than Morocco.'”

Three months earlier, retired police Chief Superintendent Torsten Elofsson of Malmö, Sweden’s third city, declared that the crime rate in the city was skyrocketing due to the influence of uncontrolled immigration and the presence of no-go areas. The French city of Marseilles, with a 30%-40% Muslim population, has been declared “the most dangerous city in Europe” because of an increasing level of extreme violence, riots and rapes.

What appals so many onlookers is that this damage is being done with open eyes and listening ears and that many lessons have not been learned, not just in the past year but over decades. What on earth, many of us ask, could have impelled so many European leaders — among whom German Chancellor Angela Merkel stands out — to have opened their arms to potentially millions of immigrants without imposing checks, registration at the point of entry, or other legal controls?

The whole situation was sparked, of course, by the staggering break-up of Syria over so many years. This break-up has led to the flight of very large numbers of genuine refugees, so many of them risking their lives to bring their children across the Mediterranean in the hope of finding safety in the European Union.

If we are to analyse what has happened, we can do no better than to start with this fact. There is in all of this an irony of mammoth proportions. Welcoming people who fear for their lives and their children’s futures is a strong trait of Western civilization. Unlike so many other cultures, the Judaeo-Christian and post-Enlightenment West has a deeply-rooted commitment to human rights, and those rights are not restricted to ourselves but to all mankind. Both Judaism and Christianity are suffused with a sense of human brotherhood, and that sense has led to the modern ideals of rights for women, people of all races, homosexuals, the disabled, religious minorities, and the victims of violence. Nowhere, perhaps, has this been more visible in the United States, a country that was built on the backs of immigrants.

With this in view, and with the memory of the Holocaust and Europe’s failure to prevent it in mind, it was inevitable that European countries would at first welcome the poor, hungry and distressed of Syria and other places.

But here lies the irony. Our undiscriminating welcome is leading us to welcome people many of whom seem dedicated to bringing about our internal collapse. This collapse may be far from total now, but there are grave misgivings about how Europe will look in the future, and certainly by the end of the century. Politicians, church leaders, and charity bosses have been looking at only one side of the equation.

There may not be a Huntingtonian “Clash of Civilizations” at present, but cultural clashes have been dominating the debate, even if many worthy individuals and organizations prefer to turn a blind eye to their consequences.

There have been cultural clashes throughout history, but in the last two hundred years, they have grown in size and intensity. Under the great Islamic empires, clashes between the Muslim ruling classes and religious minorities were usually held in check by the enforcement of Islamic norms. The Western imperial powers also governed by a combination of force, law and bureaucratic administration.

Modern democracies, however, are disinclined to control the behaviour of individuals and groups. They prefer to give citizens freedom to act and speak within the law. Societies have become multicultural, with tolerance of differences a source of pride. Racism has, thankfully, given way in most places to mutual acceptance. In America, Irish, Polish and Italian Catholics settled within a generation or two to become loyal citizens with a minimum of foreign cultural traits.

This is the positive side of multiculturalism. The presence of different cuisines, music, and art of course enriches society, but there is a negative side too. And that is where this irony comes to the fore. A broad Western value is that individuals may, within the bounds of decency, dress much as they please. With the exception of France, Muslim women are free to wear hijabs or other coverings. The increase of veiled women in, say, Britain, has been startling, given that wearing the hijab is now associated with Muslim self-assertion. Others, however, find the hijab and other styles of veil symbols of the oppression of women. In countries such as Saudi Arabia or Iran, “improperly” veiled women may be fined, flogged, or, in some cases, executed on charges of prostitution. In many instances, passers-by may attack them, as in the acid-throwing attacks by the Ansar-e Hezbollah gangs last year in Iran.

In Western countries, freedom of speech and expression is supposed to be a non-negotiable value of public life, with open comment and debate regarded as the life-blood of an open society (as defined, for example, by the late Sir Karl Popper). But, as case after case has shown in Europe and the United States, freedom of this kind is anathema to all devout Muslims. Novels have been banned; authors and translators attacked, flogged and murdered; cartoons have led to rioting, a film-maker was stabbed through the heart — all for having said or illustrated something that allegedly offended some Muslims. Meanwhile, Muslim radicals make use of their freedom to write, publish, and post on the internet vast quantities of hate speech, that often includes a denial of the right to Western freedoms, not only to themselves but to everyone. What is sauce for the goose has become not sauce for the gander.

While serious attempts are made to remove terror-linked Islamic websites from the internet, there are still hundreds if not thousands of websites that present a non-terrorist form of extremism. As recently reported by London’s Daily Mail, Muslim hate speakers are given free rein to address students at many British universities. The double-standard and hypocrisy is that the same universities have banned controversial but important speakers such as the feminist Germaine Greer, historian David Starkey, or just about anybody who supports the state of Israel. And if speakers are not actually banned, hordes of ideologically-inspired students and outsiders will turn up to disrupt their lectures with shouts, screams, and threats. This happened on 19 January, when a mob of anti-Israel activists at King’s College, London, attacked a talk given by Ami Ayalon, now a peace activist and former head of Israeli secret service Shin Bet and commander-in-chief of the navy. The meeting was disturbed by protestors, thought to be from the KCL Action Palestine student group, who threw chairs, smashed windows, and set off fire alarms.

Not all of these bans have been down to Muslims, but many — including the anti-Israel campaigners — have included a large Muslim presence. Anyone who speaks out against the clash between extremist Islam and European culture is bound to be condemned as a “racist” or an “Islamophobe.” Such is the illiberal “liberal” culture that sees even the mildest concern to be opposed to the “righteous” tendencies of our moral guardians — such as highly conservative Christians like Britain’s intolerant Mary Whitehouse.

The irony of the current situation not only relates to our tolerance of Islamic intolerance, but to a more visceral clash of cultures based on expectations and social habits. When Jews, Irish, Polish, and Hispanic Catholics were first thrown into the American melting pot alongside conservative Protestants, the pain of integrating was lessened because they had broadly similar attitudes on moral and social values. Religious views aside, these were people trained in the Judaeo-Christian tradition, aspiring to, or familiar with, democracy, respectful of women (if not yet believers in sexual equality), and in general averse to crime (if we ignore the mobs from each ethnic group). Finding common ground was not always easy, especially for Jews, but there was a basis upon which to forge allegiances, not least the concept of being citizens of a new country in which there were, in principle, opportunities for everyone.

The immigrants now flooding into Europe may often feel the same, but the events of New Year’s Eve, taken with the no-go zones and the general anti-Western attitudes, suggest that as many of them harbour attitudes that are indeed alien, and often antithetical to, modern Western norms. Only about half of the recent immigrants are Syrian refugees desperate to escape a landscape of ruined cities and daily fighting.

Last October, the New York Times wrote:

Aid groups say the chaotic nature of the human traffic has left them without a full picture of the current wave of people reaching Europe. The United Nations refugee agency says that just over half are Syrians, followed by smaller groups from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iraq and elsewhere. Sixty-nine percent are men, 13 percent women and 18 percent children.

The largest single group appears to be young men, open to adventure but woefully ill-informed about what they are getting into. Among the dozens of them interviewed recently in Turkey and Greece, only a few spoke any languages other than their native tongue, and most knew little about the countries they hoped to make their new home. Some were surprised to learn that beer and pork are prominent in German cuisine.

During 2015, applications for asylum within the EU came from a total of thirty countries, with Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis at the top. Eritreans also made up a substantial portion. Despite claims that the vast majority are economic migrants, not genuine war refugees, the Economist has cast cold water on this in an article entitled “How many migrants to Europe are refugees?”. Nevertheless, official statistics do not usually include illegal refugees. The chaotic conditions of 2015 made it much easier for illegals to enter, and the people-smuggling trade is known to be vast.

The mass sexual assaults on New Year’s Eve, and many through the year, are clearly the work of single, mainly young men. In packs, people can more easily give in to anti-social tendencies, but these men from North Africa and the Middle East seem to bring with them social attitudes that make it hard for them to conform with European notions of what is, and what is not, criminal or decent. In North Africa and the Middle East, sex outside marriage is risky for both partners, especially in societies where honour-killings take place. The open romantic experience that is common throughout Western countries is not open to Arab men and may only be pursued in Iran through the institution of temporary (mut’a) marriage. For sexual fulfilment in those societies, marriage, or alternative options, are essential. In 2007, Navtej Dhillon, of the Brookings Institute, wrote:

Marriage, long the centerpiece of Middle Eastern life, is in crisis. The reason: a new generation of young men cannot afford to marry–a fact that’s destined to exacerbate many of the region’s social and political problems. Little more than a decade ago, 63 percent of Middle Eastern men married by their late 20s. Today the figure is just over 50 percent. Iran brings up the rear, at 38 percent, with the swathe of Maghreb between the Levant and Morocco only marginally better. Contrast that to Asia, which leads the nuptial race with 77 percent of men aged 25 to 29 being married, followed by 69 percent in Latin America and 66 percent in Africa.

The consequences of these trends are profound. In most Arab countries, a bachelor’s life is devoid of economic and social opportunities. Marriage remains the path to adulthood, social status and legitimate sexual relationships. In contrast to Americans and Europeans, the majority of Arab men in their late 20s are not staying single by choice. They are forced into it by circumstances.

Sometimes young men in North Africa pester Western women, tourists or expatriates, in the wish that they are as hungry for sex as they themselves are and will submit to any man’s advances. Local students in a Moroccan university (women as well as men) once told this writer that there had been a dearth of men in Europe after World War II and that, as a result, desperate European women had swarmed to Africa in search of “real” men who could satisfy their passions. Arguing that this was nonsense, I quickly became aware that they sincerely believed this. Any Western woman who has ever been followed by men in these countries can readily testify to how unpleasant such unwanted attention can be. Part of this unpleasantness is knowing that, if a Western woman tried to lodge a complaint with the police, she would almost certainly be held to blame, whether by dressing in a certain way or simply acting as an independent person.

That is why men who come directly from countries with a wholly different set of sexual mores, and who find themselves on the streets with (to them) scantily-dressed and attractive young women, act in the way they did on New Year’s Eve. Although rapes of women do take place in North Africa and the Middle East, they are rare. Believing that Western women are happy to be raped or fondled and that, as non-Muslims, they may be regarded as “fair game,” is a green light for men brought up in puritanical Islamic societies.

Fortunately, recent events have been something of a wake-up alarm. Norway is already providing classes for refugees on Norwegian cultural norms, including sexual mores. The Danish parliament has debated doing the same, and Belgium has just announced that it will makes classes on “respect for women” obligatory for all non-European migrants and refugees. Will Germany follow? Or will political correctness insist that doing so would be contemptuous of the autonomy and cultural rights of non-white people?
