Interior Minister Silvan Shalom (Likud) announced on Friday that he would work to revoke the Israeli citizenship or residency status of those who committed terrorist attacks or were involved in acts of terrorism against Israelis.

The announcement came following the involvement of Israeli Arabs in several of the terrorist attacks in Israel this week, including Friday’s stabbing attack in Afula, carried out by a female Israeli Arab from Nazareth.

“We must spew out these blood-thirsty killers from our midst,” Shalom said an official statement. “This way we will deprive them of the benefits given to them by virtue of their status as residents of Israel.”

“These terrorists, who flagrantly violated the trust of Israel by the attempted murder of innocents, do not deserve to live among us,” he added.

The announcement comes amid a wave of terrorism in recent weeks, which has seen repeated stabbing and rock throwing attacks.

On Thursday, less than 24 hours before Friday’s stabbing, an Arab stabbed an IDF soldier in the streets of Afula, leaving him with moderate to serious wounds.

Also on Friday, an Arab terrorist stabbed and lightly wounded a 16-year-old Jewish teenager north of the Old City in Jerusalem.

Security forces managed to arrest the terrorist shortly after the stabbing occurred, following a brief manhunt.

The Cabinet has taken some steps to eradicate the ongoing terrorism, including passing new measures that would impose harsher punishments on rock throwers.

Wave of violence sweeping Israel is ‘terrorism,’ US says

Perhaps under the pressure from the Russian actions , obama choose eggs for his money .

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration characterizes the recent wave of violence sweeping Israel as “terrorism,” a US official told The Jerusalem Post on Friday.

A State Department official had previously told the Post the administration would refrain from using the term pending a full investigation of the attacks. But the tempo of violence only increased in recent days, with over fifteen attempted or successful stabbings and shootings of Israelis by Palestinians across the country and throughout the West Bank.

One attack perpetrated by a Jewish Israeli against four Arab Israelis also occurred in Dimona earlier in the day, raising the specter of revenge strikes and vigilantism. Israeli officials warned against such actions in a press conference on Thursday evening.

The White House is “deeply concerned” by the terror wave, a senior official told the Post earlier in the week. Obama administration officials are in contact with their Israeli and Palestinian counterparts in an effort to lower tensions and control the situation.

A Jewish man stabbed and wounded four Arabs in southern Israel on Friday in an apparent reprisal attack for Palestinian violence during the worst spell of civil unrest in the region for several years.

In the past 10 days, four Israelis have been shot or stabbed to death in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, and at least a dozen have been wounded by Palestinians wielding knives or screwdrivers in stabbings in Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities.

Three Palestinians have also been killed, and scores wounded in clashes with Israeli security forces during stone-throwing demonstrations in East Jerusalem and across the West Bank, leading to talk of a third Palestinian uprising, or intifada.

Palestinian anger is largely focused on events at the al-Aksa mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City and fears that Israel is trying to change the status quo at the holy site, revered by Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and by Jews as the Temple Mount.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied wanting to change conditions under which Jews are allowed to visit the site but bans non-Muslim prayer, but his assurances have done little to quell Palestinian anger.

Both Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have called for calm and Palestinian police are continuing to coordinate with Israeli security forces to try to restore order, but there are few signs of the tension and violence dying down.

Palestinian protests were planned in Jerusalem and West Bank cities after Muslim prayers on Friday, and Israel has deployed thousands more police and soldiers. Muslim access to al-Aksa has been restricted to men over 45 and women.

In the latest attack, a Jewish man in his 20s stabbed four Arab men in the southern Israeli city of Dimona, police said, adding that the motive was “nationalistic”.

The mayor of Dimona said the assailant was a resident of the city who was known to police. During questioning, police said the attacker described all Arabs as “terrorists.”

Hours later, a 14-year-old Jewish boy was stabbed and wounded by a Palestinian in the Old City of Jerusalem, a woman believed to be Palestinian tried to stab a guard at a bus station in north Israel, and a Palestinian stabbed a policeman near a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, Israeli police said.

The policeman’s attacker was shot dead, police said.

On Thursday, seven Israelis were stabbed in four separate incidents across the country, including the commercial capital Tel Aviv, fueling concerns about a wider uprising following those of the late 1980s and early 2000s.

The violence now is on a much smaller scale than then but mistrust between Israel and the Palestinians is deep after their last negotiations ended in April 2014 without progress.

A new intifada would further complicate efforts by world leaders to resolve conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, and there is little appetite to re-engage in peace efforts between Israel and the Palestinians after many failures in the past.

The chances of peace talks resuming before US President Barack Obama’s term ends appear slim.

Jordan on Friday issued a strong condemnation over the deaths of Palestinians at the hands of Israeli security forces in the ongoing violence, branding it a violation of human rights and urging international intervention.

Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani expressed outrage at the killing and wounding of many Palestinians at the hands of what he called “ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people,” the Jordanian news agency Petra reported.

Momani said that the killing of Palestinian citizens was one in a series of Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people. He attributed the violence to “the occupying power in the West Bank and Gaza,” Israel Radio reported.

The minister, who also serves as government spokesman, called on the international community to take immediate steps to force Israel to put an end to its aggression. He also warned of the repercussions of continued Israeli aggression against the Palestinians, Petra said.

Jordan has issued several vehement condemnations of Israel in recent weeks, with King Abdullah telling the UN General Assembly last month that his country “rejects threats to the holy places and the Arab character of this holy city [of Jerusalem].”

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah also demanded international intervention on Friday, Israel Radio said, calling on the United Nations to provide protection for the Palestinians. Speaking to a local news website, Hamdallah maintained that the Palestinians had the right to defend themselves, both on their land and at their holy places.

At least seven Palestinians were killed Friday by Israeli security forces, including six people who were shot along the border fence that separates Israel from Gaza. Another Palestinian was shot dead by police in the West Bank after he stabbed and wounded an officer in Kiryat Arba, adjacent to Hebron.

Israel is braced for Russian aerial intrusions over its Golan border

Uncertainty still hangs over Moscow’s precise intentions regarding its air force flights over the Golan close to Israel’s border – even after two days of discussions on coordination ended in Tel Aviv Thursday, Oct. 8 between the Russian Deputy Chief of Staff Gen. Nikolay Bogdanovsky and his Israeli counterpart Maj. Gen. Yair Golan. A coordination mechanism between the two air forces was left as unfinished business for further discussion, DEBKAfile’s military sources report. So it is still not clear to Israel what is supposed to happen if Russian fighters and bombers enter the Syrian-Israeli border district and slip over into Israeli air space.

The bilateral talks left Israel with the impression that this was a distinct possibility.

Israeli and Western aviation and intelligence experts don’t see how Israel can prevent Russia providing air cover for Syrian and Hizballah forces when the war moves close to the Israeli and Jordanian borders of southern Syria.

Last week, Russian SU-30 and Su-24 warplanes twice violated Turkish air space in the southern province of Hatay (called Alexandretta on Syrian maps). Although after the Russian defense ministry apologized for the first intrusion as accidental and lasting just a few seconds, our military sources are certain that the Russians were in fact deliberately testing Turkish air defenses.

This scenario may well repeat itself over the Golan in the very near future.

Gen. Bogdanovsky made no secret of Moscow’s intention to use its air power against rebel targets in battles taking place near the Israeli border. According to our exclusive military sources, Israel braced for this eventually Wednesday night, Oct. 7. Syrian, Hizballah and pro-Iranian Shiite forces then launched a ground offensive with Russian air cover against Syrian rebel forces in the Hama region. This was their first ground operation since the start of the Russian military buildup in late August. Intelligence was received that a second Syrian-Hizballah offensive, covered by Russian fighters and bombers, was scheduled to start at the same time in the Quneitra area, directly opposite the Israeli Golan.

For some reason, it was not launched when expected, but it is unlikely to be deferred for long. After firing Kalibr-NK-SS-27 Sizzler cruise missiles last week to soften rebel resistance to the Syrian government offensive in the Hama area, the Russians may well aim them at the Quneitra arena too in support of another Syrian operation.

The United States has pulled the USS Theodore Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier that has been central in the fight against the Islamic State, from the Persian Gulf, military officials said Thursday.

NBC News reported that the U.S. Navy now, for the first time since 2007, has no aircraft carrier in the sea. The aircraft carrier was taken out late Thursday so that it can undergo maintenance, but its temporary removal is also part of budget cuts.

The nuclear-powered USS Theodore Roosevelt, which houses approximately 5,000 troops and 65 combat planes, has played a large role in the Obama administration bomb campaign against Islamic State (IS, also known as ISIL or ISIS) since its conception in 2014.

Military officials previously warned of the aircraft carrier’s removal and its negative impact on U.S. capabilities in the region.

“Without that carrier, there will be a detriment to our capability there,” Adm. John Richardson, currently the chief of Naval Operations, told the Senate Armed Services Committee in July. While the USS Harry S. Truman will likely replace the carrier, it could be up to two months before that happens.

The removal comes just as the Obama administration on Friday ended its $500 million Pentagon program to train and arm Syrian rebels fighting IS in an acknowledgement of its failure.

At the same time, Russia has been boosting its military activity in the region over the last few weeks, sending military equipment and troops to Syria and starting to launch airstrikes in the country. Russia is also launching cruise missiles from ships in the Caspian Sea at targets in Syria and allegedly putting “volunteer” forces on the ground in the country.

Moscow has insisted that the goal of its military intervention in Syria is to help the Bashar al-Assad regime combat the Islamic State, but most of its airstrikes have targeted areas not controlled by the terrorist group. In fact, U.S. officials believe that Russia is deliberately targeting CIA-backed Syrian rebels with airstrikes in a direct challenge to the Obama administration Syria policy.

Russian air forces carried out 67 sorties, striking 60 separate targets in northern Syria in the past 24 hours, the Defense Ministry has reported. Two senior Islamic State field commanders are reportedly among some 300 militants killed in the strikes.

“Among the targets are the communication hubs, command posts, fuel stores and terrorist training bases located located in Raqqa, Latakia, Idlip, Aleppo and Hama,” said deputy chief of staff Lieutenant-General Igor Makushev, in a Moscow media briefing.

Makushev said that drone footage verified that a precision hit destroyed the headquarters of Liwa-al-Haqq, an Islamist group, which has been fighting the government of Bashar Assad since 2012. Russia said that a radio intercept confirmed the deaths of 200 fighters, and two commanders, who Makushev said belonged to Islamic State.

Another 100 Islamists were killed in an airstrike near Aleppo, in which Russian Sukhoi jets destroyed a base and armaments store housed in a former prison.

In total the airstrikes destroyed six communication hubs, six armories, 17 training bases and 17 armored vehicles, the Russian official said.

“The militants are sustaining significant losses from the airstrikes, and are having to adjust their tactics, spreading out over a wider area, concealing themselves more thoroughly, or hiding in urban settlements,” Makushev said.

“In these conditions, the Russian air forces are continuing and intensifying their airstrikes.”

Russian air forces have carried out airstrikes from a specially-built base outside the government-controlled stronghold of Latakia since September 30, at the behest of Bashar Assad. About 2,000 Russian personnel have been deployed in the country, but Moscow says it has no plans to use ground forces in the fight against militants.

Thank you.

Nobody in their right minds would not agree that it was a sensible thing to do to get France and Germany together, round the table, to break bread with each other, to have a trade deal with each other back in the 1950’s and to work as sovereign, democratic, nations together for peace. All of that was absolutely right and high minded.

Sadly, the whole thing has become corrupted. Tony Blair said, “the EU today is no longer about peace, it is about power” and how right he was and how that power has shifted. When Kohl and Mitterand came here, representing their countries 25 years ago it was a partnership of equals but no longer. France is now severely diminished, trapped inside a currency from which frankly she can’t recover and the French voice in this relationship and in Europe is little more now frankly than a pipsqueak.

It’s an irony isn’t it, that the project that was designed to contain German power has now given us a totally German-dominated Europe. Just look at the euro, Germany has a currency that is undervalued by twenty percent, a growing and massive trade surplus and most growth in the German economy since the collapse of 2008 has indeed been in exports to other Eurozone countries such as your very big arm sales to countries like Greece.

And when we have a General Election that says a country like Greece wants to change direction, well I’m sorry but that now must be brushed aside because the Germans don’t want it. And in what must count as perhaps the worst piece of public policy seen in modern Europe for half a century, when you compounded the already failed and flawed EU Common Asylum Policy by saying to the whole world please come to Europe, and we saw frankly, virtually a stampede and we learnt that eighty percent of those that are coming are not Syrian refugees, in fact what you’ve done is to open the door to young, male, economic migrants. Many of whom I have to say behave in a rather aggressive manner, quite the opposite to what you would ever expect to see from any refugee, and yet when that failure is met by objections from countries like Hungary their opinions are crushed.

This isn’t a Europe of peace, it’s a Europe of division, it’s a Europe of disharmony, it’s a Europe that is a recipe for resentment. And yet faced with all this failure, both of you said the same thing today. You said Europe isn’t working so we must have more Europe. More of the same failing, well there is I think a bright star on the horizon. It’s called the British referendum and given that none of you want to concede Britain the ability to take back control of her own borders a Brexit now looks more likely than at any point in modern time and I hope and pray that Britain voting to leave the European Union will be the beginning of the end of a project, however noble its original intentions, has gone wrong.

What’s Obama’s Next Move on Israel?

What’s Obama’s Next Move on Israel? Commentary Magazine, October 9, 2015

new-obama

The reasoning behind America’s supine reaction to Russian intervention in Syria is no mystery. It is a clear reflection of President Obama’s longstanding desire to withdraw from the Middle East, as well as his commitment to détente with Iran. Since the Iranians are hoping the Russian forces can do what Hezbollah and Iranian volunteers failed to accomplish in the last few years — destroy Bashar Assad’s opposition — it is hardly surprising that the U.S. would decide to shrug at this nightmarish reversal of fortune for American interests. But that doesn’t mean the president likes being upstaged by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The question for the White House now is how to seize back the initiative on the world stage in a manner better suited to President Obama’s sensibilities. The recent surge of Palestinian terror attacks on Israelis may provide the answer. Though the administration has its hands full with foreign crises right now, it may be that Obama’s answer to Russian adventurism will be a return to the dead in the water peace process between Israel and the Palestinians. Instead of stronger efforts to make good on his promise to destroy ISIS, he may prefer another go at hammering Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

As late as only a couple of weeks ago, the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians didn’t seem to be on the White House’s front burner. To judge by his recent speech at the United Nations General Assembly, President Obama was done with the Israel-Palestinian peace process. For the first time since he became president, Obama didn’t mention the topic once in his annual UN address. With Russia waging war in Syria, the U.S. is unable to do much about ISIS and the region in chaos. The notion that the carnage and suffering that had spread across the Middle East has anything to with Israel or the Palestinians is ludicrous. So it was little surprise that the president preferred to use his address to boast of the dubious virtues of his nuclear deal with Iran than to spout his standard lines about Israel needing to take risks for the sake of a peace process that wasn’t going anywhere.

Indeed, the scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu next month was seen as an opportunity to repair the alliance that was damaged by the debate over Iran rather than another chance for Obama to renew his longstanding feud with the Israeli leader. Though Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas’s farcical declaration at the UN that the Oslo Accords no longer bound him fell flat, the outbreak of a wave of Palestinian terror directed at Israelis has put that issue back in the news. The administration’s studious neutrality about the recent violence in spite of the incitement from the Palestinian Authority that has stoked the bloodshed has helped to further isolate Israel. The intractable nature of the conflict and the Palestinians’ obvious lack of interest in peace would deter a wiser man than Obama. But the need to do something to assert American influence, or at least get some attention, could prompt the president to use what may be the start of a third intifada to unleash Secretary of State John Kerry and begin a new round of pointless negotiations.

Why would the administration expend what is left of its diminishing political capital for another round of Netanyahu-bashing that would almost certainly do nothing to advance the cause of peace?

The first thing to remember about this president is never to underestimate either the strength of his obsessions or his willingness to hold onto grudges.

President Obama is a man who has learned nothing in his seven years in office. He arrived at the White House determined to foster engagement with Iran and create more daylight between the U.S. and Israel, and convinced that Netanyahu’s Likud was not to his taste. Nothing that has happened in the intervening years has altered his opinion about any of this.

Part of it is rooted in a genuine belief that the only way to solve the Israel-Palestinian conflict is to put sufficient pressure on the Israelis to make concessions. That fits in nicely with his equally sincere conviction that the United States must concentrate its efforts on reaching out to the Muslim and Arab worlds rather than reinforcing the alliance with Israel, which he and advisors like Susan Rice see as an impediment to U.S. interests.

The failure of every previous attempt to foster peace has not influenced the president’s opinion. No matter how many times the Palestinian leadership says no to Israeli offers of peace or incites their people to religious-based violence — as Abbas is currently doing — Obama still thinks that the key to success will be more Israel-bashing.

However, just as important as his faith in pressure on Israel is his animus for Netanyahu. The president’s defining characteristic in office is his arrogant belief in his own superior intellect and Netanyahu’s stubborn refusal to bow to Obama’s demands irritates him in a way that can only be described as disproportionate. As State Department veteran and former Obama staffer Dennis Ross describes in his new book that was excerpted yesterday in Politico, Obama and Susan Rice were so offended by possible Israeli opposition to the Iran deal that they kept Netanyahu in the dark about the talks with Tehran and then spread canards about his dissent being rooted in racism.

It would make political sense for Obama and the Democratic Party for the president to forget about his feud with Netanyahu,  but that isn’t likely to happen. That’s especially true since the prime minister used his own UN speech to reiterate his criticisms of the Iran deal, something that was likely to drive Obama straight up the White House walls even though that’s a fight he’s already won.

Lastly, a new peace process push would let Obama preen on the international stage in a way that he likes. The president disdains and even mocks Putin’s muscular approach to international affairs, even though Russia’s advances come at America’s expense. But he really thinks that moves like appeasing Iran or putting Israel in its place enhance his prestige. That this is dangerous nonsense that only undermines American credibility seems never to occur to him.

The ultimate outcome of any new push for peace with the Palestinians is a foreordained conclusion. Neither Abbas nor his Hamas rivals are willing to recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish state, no matter where its borders might be drawn. Moreover, the violence that Abbas has incited in order to compete with Hamas may not be so easily kept in check. American neutrality about Abbas’ double game in which he stokes hatred with one hand and seeks to restrain it with the other may serve to only make the situation even more dangerous. Instead of allowing the president to claim that the U.S. is a force for peace, more pressure on Israel will just add to the toll of suffering in Iraq and Syria, that Obama’s misguided policies have created.

Giant Oil Deposit Found in Golan

October 9, 2015

Giant Oil Deposit Found in Southern Golan
By Arutz Sheva Staff 10-7-2015

(With Russia playing ‘good cop – bad cop’ just across the border, this could be a real game changer. The stakes for the Golan Heights just went up. How ironic…from the ‘depths’ of the Golan Heights. Just imagine the impact this could have on Israel’s economy if the deposit is as huge as the estimates. – LS)

A giant oil deposit has been found in the southern Golan Heights and estimates are that the amount of oil found will suffice to make Israel self sufficient for many years to come.

Globes quoted Afek Oil and Gas Chief Geologist Dr. Yuval Bartov as saying, “We are talking about a stratum which is 350 meters thick, and what is important is the thickness and the porosity.”

“On average in the world, strata are 20-30 meters thick, so this is ten times as large as that, so we are talking about significant quantities. The important thing is to know the oil is in the rock and that’s what we now know.”

Large amounts of oil have thus far been found in three drillings that have taken place in the southern Golan Heights. The potential for production is in the billions of barrels. Israel consumes about 100 million barrels of oil per year.

“Although the existence of the oil in the ground is a fact,” wrote Globes, “the critical phase now is to check how easily it can be extracted and whether it involves high production costs. In a period of very low oil prices, extraction will have to be relatively cheap to make exploitation of the field profitable.”

Bartov said, “There is enormous excitement. It’s a fantastic feeling. We came here thinking maybe yes or maybe no and now things are really happening.”

Israeli entrepreneurs have succeeded in finding huge natural offshore gas reserves in recent years, but their exploitation has been held up by leftist pressure to abrogate contracts the government made with the entrepreneurs and increase the government’s share in the gas fields.

Exploitation of the Golan oil discovery is opposed by environmental groups. “This is likely to make any potential extraction from the ground and production a more protracted process lasting many years,” according to Globes.

Hamas Leader: Time for ‘Third Intifada’ Against Israel

October 9, 2015

Hamas Leader: Time for ‘Third Intifada’ Against Israel
by Jordan Schachtel 6 Oct 2015 Via Breitbart

(Hamas and the Palestinians seem emboldened by the the Axis of Evil’s war in Syria. Apparently they feel Russia’s got their backs covered. Could be. I just wonder why so little is said of this possiblilty in the media. To me, it’s like ignoring the proverbial 1000 pound gorilla in the room. – LS)

A senior member of the Gaza-ruling terrorist group Hamas has called for a third intifada, or terror uprising, against the Jewish state of Israel.

Mahmoud al-Zahar, who previously served as Foreign Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, but now helps lead Hamas, said that now is the time for Palestinians to rise up against Israel.
Al-Zahar told the website of Hamas that an intifada is the only way to protect Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa mosque from Israel. Notably, Palestinian and regional leaders have decried Israel’s supposed “desecration” of the mosque. However, Israeli authorities are not even in charge of the grounds surrounding the mosque, and there has been no evidence presented of Israel tampering with the status quo around the holy site.

“The image of Palestinians from the West Bank and Jerusalem throwing stones and Molotov cocktails has dealt a blow to the occupier,” Al-Zahar said in approval of Palestinian riot tactics.
The Palestinian Authority (PA), however, is refusing to openly call for another intifada, although their leadership continues to justify and incite violence against Israelis.

PA President Mahmoud Abbas instructed his security forces to ramp up preventive measures in the West Bank in order to quell the surge in Palestinian violence, the Jerusalem Post reports. The office of President Abbas said the additional security measures were taken to “ensure security for the homeland and the people.”

Although Palestinian leaders continue to incite terror and refuse to condemn the murder of innocents, Abbas made clear that he does not want to square off against the might of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Abbas said Tuesday at a meeting with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO): “We tell them (the Israelis) that we do not want either military or security escalation. All our instructions to our (security) agencies, our factions and our youth have been that we do not want escalation.”

Separately, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that workers had completed construction of a security fence that provides protection for the Israeli communities situated near Israel’s Gaza border. The fence was built in anticipation of a future conflict with Hamas, which started a war with Israel in the summer of 2014 when its henchman assassinated three Israeli teenagers.
