A convoy of Hezbollah terrorists and weapons was hit in an apparent Israeli airstrike in Lebanon, according to Channel 2 reports.
The convoy was reportedly traveling through the village of Anjar, close to Lebanon’s border with Syria, when it was hit.
Anjar is located in the Bekaa Valley region, a Hezbollah stronghold in Lebanon.
Israeli airstrikes have targeted Hezbollah positions in Syria over the past several years, as part of efforts to avoid the Shia terrorist group obtaining advanced weaponry from Iran in exchange for its support of the Assad regime.
However Israeli strikes in Lebanon – Hezbollah’s heartland – have been far rarer over the past several years, and only in direct response to attacks by Hezbollah and other terrorist groups.
Updates to follow.

President Obama will visit Hiroshima later this month to affirm his commitment to pursuing a world without nuclear weapons.
The White House announced the planned trip early on Tuesday, which will make Obama the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima. The United States dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.
Obama’s trip to Vietnam and Japan between May 21 and 28 is his 10th trip to Asia since becoming president, Politico reported. While in Japan, Obama will attend the G-7 Summit. He will visit Hiroshima on May 27.
“The President and Prime Minister [Shinzo] Abe will meet bilaterally to further advance the U.S.-Japan alliance, including our cooperation on economic and security issues as well as a host of global challenges,” the White House said in a statement. “Finally, the President will make an historic visit to Hiroshima with Prime Minister Abe to highlight his continued commitment to pursuing the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons.”
Ben Rhodes, Obama’s deputy national security adviser for strategic communication, wrote in a Medium post that it will be “the appropriate moment for the President to visit this city and shrine.”
“The President will visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a site at the center of the city dedicated to the victims of the atomic bombing, where he will share his reflections on the significance of the site and the events that occurred there,” Rhodes wrote. “He will not revisit the decision to use the atomic bomb at the end of World War II. Instead, he will offer a forward-looking vision focused on our shared future.”
Rhodes further wrote that the visit “will offer an opportunity to honor the memory of all innocents who were lost during the war.”
Caroline Kennedy, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, and Secretary of State John Kerry traveled to Hiroshima in April.
The EU’s Kiss of Death
May 10, 2016The EU’s Kiss of Death, Gatestone Institute, Judith Bergman, May 10, 2016
♦ The European Union may yet come to realize that this latest ill-concealed jab at the Central- and Eastern European members of the European Union may signal the beginning of the unraveling of the European Union, an event which, considering the authoritarian structure of the organization, might be a good thing. The EU’s authority comes, undemocratically, from the top down, rather than from the bottom up; it is non-transparent, unaccountable and there is no mechanism for removing European Commission representatives.
♦ “We especially do not like it when people who have never lived in Hungary try to give us lectures on how we should cope with our own problems. Calling us racists or xenophobes is the cheapest argument. It’s used just to dodge the issues.” — Zoltán Kovács, spokesman for Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
♦ By persisting in pushing their agendas on European Union member states that still consider themselves sovereign and not merely provinces of the EU, Timmermans and his European Commission bureaucrats may just have given the European Union its kiss of death.
The European Union is hell-bent on forcing member states to take “their share” of migrants. To this end, the European Commission has proposed reforms to EU asylum rules that would see enormous financial penalties imposed on members refusing to take in what it deems a sufficient number of asylum seekers, apparently even if this means placing those states at a severe financial disadvantage.
The European Commission is planning sanctions of an incredible $290,000 for every migrant that recalcitrant EU member states refuse to receive. Given that EU countries such as Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria have closed their borders to migrants or are in the process of doing so, it is not difficult to discern at whom the EU is aiming its planned penalties.
The EU may yet come to realize, however, that this latest ill-concealed jab at the Central- and Eastern European members of the European Union — if it passes muster by most member states and members of the European parliament — may just signal the beginning of the unraveling of the European Union, an event which, considering the authoritarian structure of the organization, might be a good thing. The EU’s authority comes, undemocratically, from the top down, rather than from the bottom up; it is non-transparent, unaccountable and there is no mechanism for removing European Commission representatives.
The migrant crisis has revealed a deep and seemingly irreconcilable rift between those countries that roughly two decades ago still found themselves on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain and have not forgotten it, and Western European countries spared from a merciless Soviet totalitarianism. The soft Western Europeans, instead, developed politically correct credos of “diversity” and “multiculturalism,” which they intractably push down the throats of those recently released from captivity, refusing to show the tolerance of which they themselves purport to be high priests.
In September, European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans said,
“We should know more about Central European history. Knowing that they were isolated for generations, that they were under oppression by Moscow for so long, that they have no experience with diversity in their society, and it creates fear in the society.
…
“Any society, anywhere in the world, will be diverse in the future — that’s the future of the world. So [Central European countries] will have to get used to that. They need political leaders who have the courage to explain that to their population instead of playing into the fears as I’ve seen Mr Orbán doing in the last couple of months.”
Exactly because central Europeans were subjected to a totalitarian ideology for half a century, they are rather unenthusiastic about submitting to a new, increasingly totalitarian ideology, especially one which seeks to impose itself as the “only truth,” and in its intolerance is averse to any nonconformity — as Timmermans’ comments make condescendingly clear.
The European Union’s vision of an ideal “multicultural” and “diverse” society seems to be viewed by the central Europeans as humbug, perhaps because they have correctly observed that the “multiculturalism” on display in Western Europe is largely a monoculture of the Islamic variety.
If there is anything at which the Central Europeans became experts during their Soviet internment, it was deciphering the doublespeak of communist apparatchiks, which may account for their adeptness at deciphering the doublespeak coming from Eurocrats such as Timmermans. As the Hungarian Prime Minister’s spokesman, Zoltán Kovács, said in September, “… multi-culturalism in Western Europe has not been a success in our view. We want to avoid making the same mistakes ourselves.”
The magic that the European Union once held for Central European countries, which rushed to join the organization after the demise of communism — believing it to be the very antithesis of what they had just experienced under communist rule — is fast evaporating.
In February, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said that, “If Britain leaves the EU, we can expect debates about leaving the EU in a few years too.” Three-fifths of Czechs say that they are unhappy with EU membership, and according to an October 2015 poll by the STEM agency, 62% said they would vote against it in a referendum.
In March, after the Brussels terrorist attacks, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło said, “I see no possibility at this time of immigrants coming to Poland.”
“Until procedures to verify the refugees are put in action, we cannot accept them,” Rafał Bochenek, a government spokesman, told reporters.
“The priority of the government is the safety of Poles … We understand the previous government … signed commitments which bind our country. We cannot allow a situation in which events taking place in the countries of Western Europe are carried over to the territory of Poland.”
In Poland, 64 percent of Poles want the country’s borders closed to migrants.
The European Commission, led by Jean-Claude Juncker and Frans Timmermans (left), is hell-bent on forcing member states to take “their share” of migrants. In March, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło (right) bluntly stated: “I see no possibility at this time of immigrants coming to Poland.”
In Hungary, Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s spokesman, Zoltán Kovács, stated:
“Mr. Timmermans is right that we have not had the same experience as Western Europe, where countries such as Holland, Britain and France have had mass immigration as a result of their colonial legacies. But we would like to deal with our problems in a way that suits us. And we especially do not like it when people who have never lived in Hungary try to give us lectures on how we should cope with our own problems. Calling us racists or xenophobes is the cheapest argument. It’s used just to dodge the issues.”
Even among those Eastern European countries still waiting to be admitted to the EU, the enthusiasm for the EU seems to have dwindled. “The EU that all of us are aspiring to, it has lost its magic power,” Serbian Prime Minister, Aleksander Vucic said in February, “Yes we all want to join, but it is no longer the big dream it was in the past.”
The reactions of countries such as Poland and Hungary are the normal, healthy reactions of nations who wish to remain prosperous, sovereign and safe for the sake of their own citizens. In addition, entertaining no illusions about “multiculturalism,” they appear to have a justifiable apprehension about the detrimental effects of the current migration crisis on national security and finances.
It is not only the newest members of the EU that have begun to realize that is a bad idea to defer decisions about borders and national security to an unelected supranational entity, which appears completely oblivious to the concerns of its member states.
In Norway, the government announced that it will not accommodate any more migrants beyond the 1500 that the country has already agreed to take during the next two years, as part of the EU’s refugee relocation scheme. “We have set a quota for refugees from the EU. Increasing it is not of current interest,” Immigration Minister Sylvi Listhaug said in April. Norway, in fact, has begun paying asylum seekers to return to their own countries.
In Austria, the government is imposing border controls at the Brenner Pass, the main Alpine crossing into Italy, and erecting a barrier between the two countries.
In the face of such resistance from member states, the European Commission’s plan to penalize them for not accepting “their share” of migrants could not possibly be more ill-timed and out of touch. It comes across as a desperate attempt by the EU’s executive body to force its way of handling the migrant crisis onto disobedient EU member states, like an authoritarian parent disciplining its unruly children. There is, however, such a thing as bending something until it snaps. By persisting in pushing their agendas on EU member states that still consider themselves sovereign and not merely provinces of the European Union, Timmermans and his European Commission bureaucrats may just have given the European Union its kiss of death.

Israel’s Anti-Israel Elites and their Hatred of Israelis
May 10, 2016Israel’s Anti-Israel Elites and their Hatred of Israelis, Front Page Magazine, Daniel Greenfield, May 10, 2016
(Mr. Greenfield should write a comparable article about America’s anti-American “elites.” — DM)
Last year, Israeli President Rivlin denounced Israel as a “sick society” and accused Jews of having “forgotten how to be decent human beings.” Now Major General Yair Golan, the military’s deputy chief of staff, accused Israel of resembling Nazi Germany in a speech delivered on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Israel is a sick society only to the extent that, like a fish, it rots from the heads of men like Rivlin and Golan. It is a sickness that radiates from members of the political elite whose views are fundamentally at odds with those of the people. The hatred that Rivlin and Golan, the beneficiaries of privilege and protektsia, feel for ordinary Israelis is unrelenting in its ugliness.
The Jewish State is fundamentally divided between two groups, its people and its leaders. Israel’s population is defined by a diverse mix of Middle Eastern and Russian Jewish refugees along with large numbers of Orthodox Jews. These groups tend to have more conservative views and their influence makes it very difficult for the left to win elections the way that it once used to.
Rather than adapting to Israel’s changing demographics, its elites have poured on the hate. From Dudu Topaz to Yair Garbuz, a Labor rally can’t seem to pass by without slurs aimed at Middle Eastern Jews. At last year’s election, Garbuz ranted, “How did this handful quietly become a majority?”
There was nothing quiet about it. But inside a leftist bubble of power and privilege the revelation that the majority of Israelis have very different views than they do has been deeply traumatic and shocking. Prime Minister Netanyahu is on his third straight term, but the Deep State of the elites is unwilling to be dislodged by mere democratic elections. And the Deep State controls leadership roles across the government from the military through the judiciary, not to mention academia, non-profits and culture.
It’s been a long time since this elite has been optimistic. Instead its rhetoric is divisive and nasty; it’s marked by paranoid suspicions about the ordinary Israelis who have left them behind. Hostile remarks, like those by Rivlin and Golan, express an undemocratic distaste toward the average Israeli.
The majority of Israel’s Jewish population now consists of refugees from the Middle East. This is a population with fundamentally different views when it comes to fighting back against the Islamic supremacism which they and their ancestors had lived under and eventually fled. It feels no guilt over the death of terrorists. It does not mourn the Jihadists of the Nakba who headed for the border in the expectation that the Jews in Israel would meet with a final Holocaust at the hands of the five invading Muslim armies, not to mention the forces of the Muslim Brotherhood. Instead it feels a moral pride.
Israel’s political elites, like their Western counterparts, take pride only in their shame. They know that Israel is a sick society and that Jews are terrible people. And they know that this makes them superior to the rabble, the cockroaches, blacks, parasites, prostitutes and other affectionate slurs that they bestow on the rest of the country. Like many liberal elites, they take pride in their contempt for ordinary people.
It’s not hard to find rhetoric in Israel resembling that of Nazi Germany. But it comes from members of the sick society of the elite who have forgotten how to be Jews, not to mention human beings. A not atypical example of that foulness was Peace Now co-founder Yigal Tumarkin saying “When I see the black-coated Orthodox Jews with the children they spawn, I can understand the Holocaust” and “My true contribution would be if I grabbed a sub-machine-gun, instead of a pen and pencil and killed them.”
Tumarkin, originally Peter Heinrich Hellberg, had family members who had served in the Nazi SS.
But that’s not the sort of rhetoric that Israel’s elites are worried about. Instead they’re furious that Middle Eastern Jewish teens from working class families think that Islamic terrorists should be shot instead of coddled. But while their daughters protest Israeli soldiers in between studying for degrees in philosophy at Hebrew U, it’s those horrible Jewish teens who actually serve in the army.
And that makes them even more of a threat to the dilettante artists and actors, the novelists whose books exist only to be translated, the generals who have no interest in winning wars, the spymasters and human rights activists who are spying for the EU, the jurists who make their own laws, the scowling journalists who issue nightly verdicts on the evening news and all the rest of the dwindling gang of the well-connected who are entirely disconnected from their own country. And who take pride in that.
Israel’s two populations exist in two different worlds. Its leaders want to be Europe while its people just want to be Israel. The former exist in a textbook in which Islamic terrorism is a moral and a philosophical problem. The latter live in a reality in which having a knife stuck in your back is a daily threat.
The elites think of the ordinary Israelis who just want to live in their own country without being shot, stabbed, bombed, barraged with rocks or forced to run to bomb shelters as Nazis. Meanwhile ordinary Israelis view the entitled elites who lecture them from presidential forums and prestigious columns as an undemocratic cartel abusing the privileges that they earned with their last names.
Israel isn’t sick. But its elites are. Israel isn’t turning undemocratic or fascist. But its elites are undemocratic and totalitarian. Their accusations of fascism mask their casual willingness to censor, suppress and silence dissenting views. Like all oppressive systems at odds with the people they rule over, they are playing a totalitarian game that they are bound to lose. And they know it.
Their bitterness and hate is an acknowledgement that their dream of running everything their way is dying. They have no path toward victory. There is nothing waiting for them except oblivion.
The left has reacted to this revelation by literally trying to destroy Israel. When the editor of Israel’s left-wing paper Haaretz urged the Secretary of State of the United States to “rape” Israel, it was a blatant expression of the left’s destructive agenda for the Jewish State. President Rivlin did not view the Haaretz editor as a sign of a “sick society”. Instead he eulogized him, saying that “it was a pleasure to be his friend”. Genuinely sick behavior of this sort is considered normative among Israel’s anti-Israel elites.
What offend them are not the calls for violence against Jews or the destruction of the Jewish State by members of their own class. Instead they are carefully attuned to denouncing even the faintest suggestion for strong action against Islamic terrorists by members of the country’s lower classes. A call for the mass murder of Orthodox Jews or Middle Eastern Jews from a respected actor in Neve Tzedek will meet with wry smiles. But a few Mizrahi soccer fans shouting that it’s time to strike back against Islamic terrorism after the latest brutal atrocity will occasion “democratic” alarms in editorial offices across the country.
This is a tale of two classes and two realities. It’s a fundamental gap between entitled human rights hipsters and working class teens whose grandparents were little better than slaves in Yemen. It’s a division between an elite whose parental ties secured them a soft spot in the economy and working men and women who spent all their lives doing heavy labor. This division could not endure forever.
Prime Minister Begin had already broken the power of the left by taking on its arrogant privileges. But Islamic terrorism is rapidly accelerating the collapse of the Deep State of Israel’s entitled elites who have chosen the side of the terrorists over those of their Israeli victims. The ordinary Israelis whom Rivlin views as “sick” and Golan as Nazis will be the ones to determine its future.

A newly refurbished Jewish deli and bakery has been targeted in an arson attack in Manchester just days before its grand opening. The owners, who captured the attack on CCTV, say “Asian youths” may have been involved in the incident.
Two men were filmed breaking into the deli by smashing through the glass front door and dousing the fittings and floor with petrol before setting the fire from the bathroom. According to the time code on the footage, the attack took place at 11.15 on Friday night, as the Jewish owners, Amos and Martine Vaisman, were celebrating Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath.
In what the Vaisman’s are describing as a ‘miracle’, the premises suffered little damage despite being engulfed in flames.
Posting footage of the attack to Facebook, Mr Vaisman said: “We have clear footage of the criminals involved and additional footage of them sending a group of Asian boys to go and buy petrol from the local garage. We hope to find out very soon who is behind such an evil disgusting criminal act with constant information seeping through.”
In a message aimed at the attackers, he added: “Your attempts to inflict destruction failed. Good has overcome evil.
“WE HOPE to be ready to open to trade tomorrow.”
The Weismans had just completed a £100,000 refurbishment of the premises and were due to hold the grand opening of the new deli on Monday, taking out a large advert in a local paper to promote the event.
Martine Vaizman told the Manchester Evening News: “It is a miracle there wasn’t more damage done.
“We were observing Shabbat and so our phones were off. When my husband Amos turned his back on we got a notification telling us that the alarm had gone off.
“When we got to the restaurant we couldn’t work out what had happened, but then we looked at the CCTV. It is horrific, we have no idea who could have done this.
“The fire has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and we don’t know when we’re going to be able to relaunch now. We just spent months and months getting set for the new opening – we’ve redeveloped the whole building. It’s just awful.
“We don’t know if they are going to strike again or what’s going to happen. I just hope that whoever did this is caught as soon as possible.”
The CCTV footage has been passed to Manchester Police, who have confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the attack. CCTV footage from around the location is also being collected and reviewed.
The attack comes amid heightened concerns of anti-Semitism thanks in part to a number of prominent Labour Party figures having been suspended from the party in recent weeks over allegations of anti-Semitism. The party is holding an independent inquiry into anti-Semitism within its ranks.
According to the Community Security Trust, a Jewish organisation which monitors anti-Semitism, a quarter of all anti-Semitic attacks in 2015 took place in Manchester, home to Britain’s second largest Jewish community.
Separate research by the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism found that: “2015 saw the most anti-Semitic crime ever recorded in Britain, with a 26 percent rise in anti-Semitic crime and a 51 percent leap in violence against Jews, but a reduction in the number of anti-Semites charged by police.”
CAIR Tries to Deceive About Somali Terror Recruits
May 10, 2016CAIR Tries to Deceive About Somali Terror Recruits, Clarion Project, Ryan Mauro, May 10, 2016
Fox News starts to Somalis in Minnesota (Photo: Video screenshot)
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a U.S. Muslim Brotherhood front designated by the United Arab Emirates as a terrorist group, was asked by FOX News about Islamist terrorist recruitment among Somalis in Minnesota. CAIR’s answer, which appeared in a TV segment that included the Clarion Project, was almost comically deceptive.
The segment hosted by Pete Hegseth was about why terrorist groups like Al-Shabaab (Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia) and the Islamic State have an exceptional level of success in recruiting Somali-Americans.
CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein answered by saying:
“The Minnesota Muslim community has been working hard to address recruitment by the Al-Shabaab terror group and has achieved results, in that there has not been any new known recruits in the past few years…Treating the Muslim community as suspect only harm relations with law enforcement and alienates and stigmatizes our community.”
The spin lies in that CAIR is talking only about Al-Shabaab to give the impression that the Somali terrorist recruitment problem is a thing of the past. What it didn’t mention is that the reason the radicalized Somalis aren’t going to Al-Shabaab is simply because they are going to the Islamic State instead.
A bipartisan House Homeland Security report in September states that “radicalized individuals who were once intent on traveling to Afghanistan or Somalia are now traveling to Syria.”
That same report found that Minnesota is the origin of 26% of the American “foreign fighter” recruits who join Islamist terrorist groups overseas. The second state was California, the origin of 12%, followed by the New York City/New Jersey area with another 12%.
To put that in perspective, Minnesota has about one-ninth of the population of California, New York City and New Jersey combined—but has produced more than twice the amount of recruits of those three areas combined.
The ability of Al-Shabaab to recruit Somali-Americans, particularly in the Minneapolis area of Minnesota, has long been acknowledged by counter-terrorism experts. The danger is heightened by the extremist preaching from within the Somali communities in Minnesota and Tennessee.
Ironically, a Somali activist has blasted CAIR for marginalizing Muslim moderates and failing to combat the ideology that feeds terrorism. Now, the Islamic State has replaced Al-Shabaab as the most common destination for American recruits, including Somalis.
CAIR knows that the Islamic State is recruiting disproportionately from Somali-Americans. CAIR, ever so desperate to downplay the problem and avoid accountability for Islamic leaders, obviously made a calculated decision to try to deceive the audience by commenting only on Al-Shabaab.
Contrast their reply with what Somali community activist Omar Jamal said in the clip. He warned that Somali youth are being radicalized and recruited at this moment, facilitated by a lack of integration into American society and a failure by the U.S. government to combat extremism.
The only types of problems that can be fixed are the problems that are acknowledged.
Off Topic | If elected, Hillary plans to install ‘climate situation room’ in the White House
May 10, 2016If elected, Hillary plans to install ‘climate situation room’ in the White House, Watts Up With That, Anthony Watts , May 10, 2016
From the “pandering to your base” department and Climate Nexus:
Clinton’s Climate and Energy Plans: Hillary Clinton plans to focus on smaller legislative actions and use executive action on climate and energy issues if elected, her campaign chairman John Podesta said at a conference. Clinton also intends to install a Roosevelt Map Room-inspired situation room just for climate change. Analysis of her climate strategy reveals that Clinton intends to reduce greenhouse gas emissions up to 30 percent below 2005 level by 2025 and support fossil fuel workers through the clean energy transition. She ultimately would lay the groundwork for achieving 80 percent cuts below 2005 by 2050, strengthening President Obama’s current climate pledges.
Right, I can just see all those real-time monitors on the wall now. Here’s what it will be like the first day of operation:
Hillary: “I don’t get it, nothing seems to be changing on any of these screens!”
Technician: “Um, madam president, climate change doesn’t happen instantly.”
Hillary: “What are you talking about!? Al Gore and Bill McKibben both told me that that can see it happening right NOW!”
Technician: “Er, madam president, the standard baseline for measuring climate is 30 years. Changes don’t happen instantly. Weather changes on the short term, not climate.”
Hillary: ” Don’t give me that crap! The best scientific minds, Mike Mann and James Hansen, and Al Gore all told me I could see it happening! My friend, Senator Debbie Stabenow, says she can feel it when she’s flying! Your systems just aren’t working!”
Technician: “Madam president, as you ordered, we have all the climate change metrics on display, GISS, HadCRUT, BEST, NOAA, NSIDC, we have all the IPCC models on display, including RCP 8.5, plus Al Gore’s TRIANA satellite, looking straight at Earth and giving a live feed. These all monitor the climate of Earth.”
Hillary: “Well if your fancy named systems are so good, why can’t I see the climate changing NOW!? Gore told me I could watch it happening from space! All this money, and for what? I can’t see anything happening!”
Technician: “Madam president, as I tried to explain earlier, climate change is slow, on periods of 30 years, and….”
Hillary: “DON’T YOU LECTURE ME ABOUT WHAT I ALREADY KNOW!!!! Al Gore says I will be able to see it! Bill McKibben says I will be able to see it. Even that little weasel Joe Romm says I’ll be able to see it! Do you think you are smarter than these people!?”
Technician: [long pause] “um, …”
Hillary: “I’ve watched real time feeds all over the planet! I’ve watched people being taken out in hellholes you can’t even imagine! And you can’t do this simple thing?”
Technician: [longer pause] “well, as I …”
Hillary: “NEVER MIND! [dials cell phone] Podesta? I need my own server again! These idiots setup all these screens to show climate change and nothing is happening! What!? No I don’t care about timelines! Make it happen!!!!”
Hillary: [mumbles to herself] “I’m surrounded by idiots…”
