Labour Party politician Sadiq Khan, the son of a bus driver from Pakistan, was tapped as London’s first Muslim mayor Friday, as — with most of the vote counted — the British media said that Conservative rival Zac Goldsmith could not catch him.

Khan had a substantial lead with a majority of first-preference votes counted in the London election. A final result was due Friday evening, once voters’ second preferences were factored in.

According to the Guardian, the provisional results with 100 percent verified gave Khan 44% of the vote, and Goldsmith just 35%.

The race to replace Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson was marred by American-style negative campaigning and allegations of extremism and fear-mongering.

Goldsmith, a millionaire environmentalist, described Khan as “dangerous” and accused his opponent of giving “platforms, oxygen and even cover” to Islamic extremists — a charge repeated by Prime Minister David Cameron and other senior Conservatives.

Khan, who calls himself “the British Muslim who will take the fight to the extremists,” accused Goldsmith of trying to scare and divide voters in a proudly multicultural city of 8.6 million people — more than 1 million of them Muslims.

Khan’s win was a ray of light for Labour, which was trounced in Scotland but lost fewer seats than many expected elsewhere in local and regional elections that underscored Britain’s political divisions. The party was pushed to third place in Scotland — where it was once dominant.

The Conservatives under popular Scottish leader Ruth Davidson became the main opposition in Scotland’s Edinburgh-based parliament — an unprecedented situation in a region that had shunned the party for decades after governments of former prime minister Margaret Thatcher, whose policies cost thousands of jobs in mining and heavy industries.

The pro-independence Scottish National Party secured a third term in government in the county’s parliamentary elections, but failed by two seats to retain a majority.

SNP Leader Nicola Sturgeon said the party had “won a clear and unequivocal mandate” and would form a minority government rather than seek a coalition.

Thursday’s elections for local authorities and regional assemblies demonstrated the complexity of British politics in the final weeks before Britons vote on June 23 on whether the country should remain in the European Union.

The strength of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is under particular scrutiny in this first nationwide poll since he became leader last year.

While Labour’s losses in Scotland were humiliating, the party fared less badly overall than many had predicted. It lost only a handful of council seats and held on to control of major English cities including Birmingham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Sunderland.

Corbyn said the party had “a lot of building to do” in Scotland, but said he was pleased with results in England.

“We hung on and we grew support in a lot of places,” he said.

The results will do little to soothe restive Labour lawmakers who think Corbyn’s left-wing policies are a turn-off for many voters.

Ashton said that critics who want to “use the results as leverage to call for a leadership challenge are likely to be disappointed.”

“Their argument that Labour should be doing better, though, especially considering Conservative divisions over Europe in recent weeks, will continue to resonate,” he said.

Israel’s Tunnel-Detection Success Poses Hard Choice for Hamas

Israel’s Tunnel-Detection Success Poses Hard Choice for Hamas, Investigative Project on Terrorism, Yaakov Lappin, May 6, 2016

1523

In late March, we reported that pressure was building within the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, which could lead to a new round of fighting with Israel.

In recent days, violence out of Gaza has indeed escalated significantly, and the trigger has been a succession of breakthroughs in the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) ability to detect cross-border assault tunnels that threaten Israel’s south.

On Thursday morning, the IDF announced that it had found a tunnel 30 meters (98 feet) underground that reached into southern Israel, not far from where the IDF used new breakthrough technology to locate another tunnel in April.

Realizing it is about to lose its most prized offensive weapon against Israel – the ability to inject murder squads in Israeli territory though tunnels – Hamas’s military wing decided to do something it has not done in almost two years. It began a succession of cross-border mortar attacks in the vicinity, with a view to disrupting the detection work, and more importantly, to signal to Israel that Hamas is willing to risk war over its tunnel program.

Hamas’s attacks began on Tuesday with small arms fire and a mortar attack on IDF unit near southern Gaza carrying out engineering tunnel detection work. It escalated on Wednesday, as units came closer to locating the tunnel, resulting in multiple mortar attacks, and Israeli retaliatory tank and air strikes.

By Thursday morning, the IDF located its latest tunnel, sending home the message to Hamas’s military wing that the days in which it could dig subterranean structures under the border into Israel are drawing to a close.

Hamas persisted in mortar attacks, which at this stage appear to be missing Israeli forces deliberately, sparking yet more tank and Air Force replies by Israel.

“We view this technological, intelligence, and operational effort as a success. We can say that this tunnel is a violation of our sovereignty,” a senior IDF source said on Thursday.

According to the source, Hamas’s attempts to tell Israel to stop destroying its tunnel program are in vain.

“We are determined to continue with these efforts, and understand that we must focus in these areas,” he added.

Looking ahead, two principal scenarios could unfold in the coming days and weeks. The first possibility is that Hamas’s military wing does not back down from its so-called red line, and continues to back up its call for Israel to cease tunnel-detection work with cross-border fire. In such a scenario, Israel would be hard-pressed to contain a resumption of the reality that existed in the south prior to the 2014 conflict with Hamas. A resulting security escalation would rapidly grow in scope, and the IDF would quickly have to implement plans to destroy the military wing’s offensive capabilities.

This development would result in a major new conflict, which could end with only Hamas’s political wing remaining intact, as well as the Islamist regime’s domestic police force.

Unlike previous rounds of fighting, Israel this time may be determined to destroy Hamas’s 20,000-strong military wing, including the 5,000-member Nuhba elite force (which is trained to cross into Israel via the tunnels).

In essence, Hamas needs to choose between backing down from its stance on Israel’s tunnel detection, and watching its trump card blow away, or risk the existence of its military wing.

Should it choose the latter, it would comply with the wishes of Hamas’s political wing, which is less eager to provoke a military confrontation with Israel so soon after the 2014 war.

“Operation Protective Edge” was the most intensive conflict ever experienced by Hamas.

The two-month war left a deep imprint on Hamas. It challenged Hamas to a far greater extent than any previous military clash with Israel since Hamas seized power in Gaza in 2007. It was exposed to the most sustained and accurate Israeli firepower in its history, and lost more of its operatives in battle than any previous time (although it had also never achieved this level of capabilities before 2014). Hamas is still in the midst of rebuilding its rocket arsenals, rebuilding tunnels, and constructing drones, as well as assembling a naval terrorist intrusion unit. Gaza’s long suffering civilian population, under the grip of its Islamist jihadist rulers, may not wish to stomach a new war so soon.

The fact that, until now, Hamas has not fired a single projectile or bullet at Israel indicates that it understood that Israel is not prepared to seek containment as a response to ongoing cross-border fire.

These factors could be enough to deter Hamas from continuing to escalate the situation further.

The coming days will reveal what Hamas chooses. None of its options are attractive. Ultimately, its choice is between fighting for its tunnels, and risking its existence as an Islamist fighting force, complete with brigades, battalions, and command and control capabilities, thousands of rockets, and many thousands of anti-tank missiles and RPGs, or backing down.

GEE…I wonder who would savagely beat up a British Jewish man 30 times in three years just because he is Jewish?

Source: GEE…I wonder who would savagely beat up a British Jewish man 30 times in three years just because he is Jewish?

This will be over with a moslim major with terrorist tie’s ?

As usual, the media fail to provide a description of the attackers.  Perhaps some British BNI readers can tell us what the ethnic make-up of the East London neighborhood of Newham is?

Yisro’el Shalom, victim

UK Express  (h/t Brenda K) A devastated dad has been forced to abandon his Newham home after being beaten up 30 times in three years for ‘being Jewish’.

As an anti-Semitism debate rages in the Labour party, 52-year-old Yisro’el Shalom says he was forced to flee the community of Newham, east London after racist thugs turned his life into a living nightmare. Mr Shalom, a widower, has spoken out after years of torment led him to take drastic action.

Catalogue of incidents he kept track of in just a three year period include:

  • Death threats that left him fearing for his life
  • Sinister Nazi symbols including swastikas daubed on his home
  • Being physically attacked 30 times, including being punched and kicked by five yobs on the floor
  • Verbal abuse in the street some 65 times
  • Being spat at in the street at least 42 times.

And he says that anti-Semitism is turning parts of the UK into ‘NO GO” areas reminiscent of those in France where Jewish people are hunted and attacked based purely on their religious beliefs.

London mayor Ken Livingstone and Bradford West MP Naz Shah were suspended from the Labour party for remarks about Israel that sparked outrage.

“I’ve got good friends and neighbours living there that I haven’t seen in over a year since I left because I can’t go back there,” said Shalom. “When you see these things, we are at the beginning of what we said ‘never again’ to 70 years ago.”

Shockingly Mr Shalom was forced to wear a stab-proof vest in a bid to protect himself – as well as turning his former home into a fortress with a metal gate and iron bars over his window. Originally from Aberdeen, Mr Shalom, who was once a comedian, says he has been deliberately targeted by evil thugs who covered his home with Nazi-inspired graffiti.

A Met Police spokesman said: “We will not tolerate hate crime and take positive action to investigate all allegations, support victims and arrest offenders. The number of anti-Semitic crimes reported in Newham has doubled in the last year.

A rally for Hillary Clinton in Los Angeles on Thursday looked more like an event for Donald Trump, with large numbers of protesters interrupting the rally itself. The rally for Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican holiday celebrating an important win by Mexican forces against France during the Franco-Mexican War in 1862, was held as a Hispanic outreach event.

ABC reports that hundreds of protesters came to the rally at East Los Angeles College to protest against Clinton. The reasons ran the gauntlet, ranging from issues of trust, accusations of pandering to Hispanics, Wall Street ties and involvement in the 2009 coup in Honduras. Some of the protesters were holding signs for Clinton’s primary rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.). Other protesters held signs with photos of Clinton attending Donald Trump’s wedding in 2005 and slogans such as, “Release the Transcripts” and “Welcome to LA Where Hispandering to Chicanos Doesn’t Work!!!”

A couple of protesters made their way into the rally where they interrupted her and had to be escorted out by police.

At the end of the rally, protesters lined up along both sides of the walkway out of the arena as Clinton supporters left the arena.

ABC also reported that the Los Angeles Police Department was there with officers on horseback blocking the crowd and had helicopters flying overhead.

Iran reconciles with Islamic Jihad: DEBKAfile sources

Iran reconciles with Islamic Jihad: DEBKAfile sources, DEBKAfile, May 6, 2016

The full renewal of aid came after Iran, under Hizballah pressure,  partially renewed the support in March. Hizballah is interested in maintaining its close ties with Islamic Jihad in order to ensure influence on Palestinian affairs and a foothold in Gaza.

**************************

After a two-year rift between Islamic Jihad and Iran that resulted in the halting of Tehran’s military and financial aid to the terrorist organization, a reconciliation agreement was reached this week between the two sides in the Iranian capital, DEBKAfile‘s sources report. The dispute began when Islamic Jihad refused to back Iran’s policy of support for Syrian President Bashar Assad, and rejected Iran’s request to send members of the organization in Syria and Lebanon to fight alongside pro-Iranian militias in Syria.

The reconciliation was reached when Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah arrived in Tehran with a large delegation from the organization’s leadership and met Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The renewal of Iran’s financial aid to Islamic Jihad was announced during the meeting.

DEBKAfile: The main mediator between the two sides was the leadership of Hizballah in Lebanon. The full renewal of aid came after Iran, under Hizballah pressure,  partially renewed the support in March. Hizballah is interested in maintaining its close ties with Islamic Jihad in order to ensure influence on Palestinian affairs and a foothold in Gaza.

During a public appearance in Tehran, Islamic Jihad leader Shalah said “defending Palestine is defending Islam.” In other words, Iran, not ISIS, is the defender of Islam.

In a lecture posted on the Internet on March 21, Egyptian-German scholar Hamed Abdel-Samad said that the Prophet Muhammad had lowered the Jews to a “subhuman level, viewing them as animals,” and he compared the treatment of the Jews in the years following Muhammad’s death to that of the Nazis.

“This hatred is poisoning us” and “preventing us from dealing with our problems in a serious way,” said Abdel-Samad, adding that “instead of poisoning one generation after another with this hatred, we should let them learn something from humanity,” in order to enable them to “overcome the barrier of hatred and of fear of the other.” The lecture is titled “Islamic Fascism and the Jews.”

Today, Abdel-Samad lives in Munich, where he is married to a Danish woman and works for the Institute for Jewish History and Culture at the University of Munich. The title of the doctoral dissertation he is currently writing is: “The Portrayal of Jews in Egyptian Schoolbooks.”

The Failure of the Swedish Establishment

May 6, 2016

The Failure of the Swedish Establishment, Gatestone InstituteNima Gholam Ali Pour, May 6, 2016

♦ In Sweden’s third largest city, Malmö, the children of illegal migrants receive income support payments from the government, and the unemployment rate among foreign-born men aged 18-24 years is at 41%. In Sweden, those who do not have jobs receive generous welfare payments from the local authorities, and families in the country illegally have their rent paid by the taxpayers. It is an open invitation to more migrants to come to Sweden.

♦ The Swedish establishment tells Swedes that the more immigrants come to Sweden, the richer Sweden will become — no matter which country these immigrants come from.

♦ The Swedish establishment is characterized by incompetence combined with an extreme left-wing ideology and a hillbilly-like mentality that refuses to see the rest of the world and the risks involved in it. The Swedish establishment has not dealt with Sweden as if it were a country, but as if it were a village.

♦ By gross miscalculations, the Swedish establishment has eroded its own legitimacy. Today, fewer than one in four Swedes have confidence in their government. Meanwhile, the Swedish media is a major threat to Sweden’s security today: it downplays the migration crisis with ridiculous arguments.

A major threat to Sweden’s security today is the Swedish journalistic establishment: it downplays the migration crisis with ridiculous arguments.

As migrants flooded into Sweden in December 2015, Fredrik Virtanen, a writer for Sweden’s largest newspaper, Aftonbladet, wrote an article entitled, “Have refugees forced you to buy worse red wine?” It is not really dangerous, Virtanen argues, that that Sweden was accepting 160,000 migrants; such migratory movements, he wrote, do not really impact anyone’s life.

Today, however, we know that many people’s lives have been affected by the influx of migrants and that the problems are about more than wine. They are, for example, about sexual assault, the murder of staff in asylum accommodations and chaos in the Swedish school system. But Virtanen was right: red wine is still here.

Another of Aftonbladet’s editorial writers, Linnea Swedenmark, writes about a village in the Swedish province of Jämtland. The village she writes, is an example of how migrants are ensuring that the consumption of goods is increasing in the rural areas of Sweden.

What she did not write is that in Jämtland’s largest city, Östersund, many women have been assaulted by men who speak “Swedish with an accent.” The police have warned women not to go out alone. Swedenmark is right when she writes that “the grocery store sells three times as many eggs” — but the women of Jämtland feel less secure in the public domain.

In the magazine, Café, the journalist Andrev Walden wrote in December 2015, that “no nation has perished from too much goodness.” The pictures for his article compared Sweden’s new restrictive immigration laws with the Holocaust.

When the migration crisis started last year in Sweden, the Swedish comedian Henrik Schyffert calculated and wrote on Facebook that it costs each Swede “two Quattro Stagionis (a popular local pizza), a large Fanta soda and a Netflix subscription to save the lives of 80,000 people this year.”

His Facebook post was praised by all major media outlets in Sweden. They were apparently looking to a comedian who counted the counted the cost of immigration in pizza and soda currencies for the solution to Sweden’s migration crisis.

Since Schyffert made his statement, those amazing pizzas that would finance the mass influx of migrants are nowhere to be found, and Sweden has to borrow more money for the migration crisis on its hands.

These quotes are from the mainstream media in Sweden, and it is how large parts of the Swedish establishment sound every day. This is the level at which the debate on immigration in Sweden is being conducted.

While 800,000 migrants in Libya are waiting to invade Europe, Sweden has a refugee policy whereby only by obtaining livelihoods will those migrants with a refugee status and a temporary residence permit get permanent residence permits. So if you get a job, you get to stay in Sweden permanently. It is a strange refugee policy, because those who actually are refugees and not economic migrants are often traumatized and have difficulties finding a job. So Sweden’s refugee policy is tailored to economic migrants.

In Sweden’s third largest city, Malmö, the children of illegal migrants receive income support payments from the government, and families that are in Sweden illegally have their rent paid by the taxpayers. For some reason, the Swedish authorities want to pay people who should not even be in Sweden. It is an open invitation to more migrants to come to Sweden.

1587Tens of thousands of migrants have passed through Denmark to enter Sweden during 2015 and 2016, attracted by Sweden’s generous welfare payments and free housing.

What the established Swedish media does not tell people about are the threats and risks that come with increased migration. When the European Union’s border agency, Frontex, recognized that it could not control the migrants coming to Europe, and that many Europeans who had joined terrorist organizations outside Europe were coming back to Europe among the migrants, this was not major news in the Swedish media. This is strange, since Sweden is one of the countries in Europe from where many citizens have traveled from to the Middle East to fight in jihadi terrorist organizations.

Such news does not fit in the narrative that the Swedish media is trying to tell the Swedish people. The narrative that the Swedish establishment wants to tell the Swedes is that the more immigrants come to Sweden, the richer Sweden will become. It does not matter which country these immigrants come from. If they just come to Sweden, then Sweden will become a richer country.

A month before the migration crisis started making waves in the media, the think tank Arena Idé — which has close ties to the Social Democrats, the governing party — published a report that was mentioned in all the major Swedish media outlets.

According to the report, Sweden, between 1950 and 2014, had made a “profit” of $110 billion on immigration. The report also said that without immigration, an $8 billion tax increase would be needed to sustain Sweden’s defense, infrastructure and research. That there could be a conflict between a welfare state and immigration was called a “myth.” As expected, the established Swedish media rejoiced over these “facts.”

When the report went public in June 2015, the Swedish media celebrated it. Today, when the Swedish welfare state is under severe pressure because of immigration, the authors refuse to answer any questions about it. Last June, it was treated as a confirmation of the pro-immigration ideology of the Swedish establishment. With 9.5 million people in Sweden and its many universities, only a few economists protested the report. The loudest criticism came from the economist Tino Sanandaji. Needless to say, Sanandaji, despite being an immigrant from Iran with a Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Chicago, was depicted by some in the established Swedish media as a right-wing extremist.

No, Sweden is not the Soviet Union, but the way large parts of the Swedish establishment turn ideology into “facts” through “reports,” and smear those who have different opinions, undermines debates that are of such critical importance in a democracy.

Not only the media and think tanks connected to the government advocate a liberal immigration policy. There is also loud support for it in academic circles. “Immigrants are a profit for Sweden,” Dick Harrison, professor of history at Lund University, wrote in a December 2014 article for the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. In the article, he states:

“Sweden is not in any way unique. The same logic — that immigration strengthens the country politically, economically and culturally – can be said of all peacetime immigrations through the ages, whether it has been about refugees or labor immigration. The more immigrants, the stronger [the] state. The prime example is the United States. There is not a single historical example of immigration in the long term being negative for the host country. At this point, our historical experience is crystal clear — the only form of immigration that has been, and is, directly harmful is comprised of warlike invasions.”

While Harrison gives the United States as an example, he forgets to mention that while immigrants to the U.S. often come from countries such as Mexico, China and India, the three countries from which Sweden received the highest number of asylum seekers in 2015 were Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. They have also delivered most asylum seekers to Sweden during the first four months of 2016. As most people know, these three countries house large numbers of jihadi terrorists.

In Sweden, moreover, it is difficult for people without a high level of education to get a job. In Malmö, the unemployment rate among foreign-born men aged 18-24 years is at 41%. In Sweden, those who do not have jobs receive generous welfare payments from the local authorities.

Sweden also has a welfare system in which municipalities are obligated to ensure that everyone has housing. Sweden’s homeless people live in hostels or hotels paid for by taxpayers. These immigration policies have therefore have therefore saddled Swedish taxpayers with huge expenses.

Without the establishment’s campaign to convince the Swedish people that immigration will make Sweden rich, Sweden would not have the liberal immigration policies they do, eroding the country’s safety and welfare. Even though the Swedish establishment campaigns in every way possible for a liberal immigration policy, and despite the fact that a few months ago anyone advocating for a restrictive immigration policy was called a “racist,” resistance among Swedes against immigration has increased.

The Swedish people have defied their establishment and recently forced liberal politicians to support a more restrictive immigration policy. The Swedish people, despite having an ideologically blind establishment, have been smart enough to use their common sense.

As for the Swedish establishment, there is no word to describe them other than dangerous.

The Swedish establishment is characterized by incompetence combined with an extreme left-wing ideology and a hillbilly-like mentality that refuses to see the rest of the world and the risks involved in it. The Swedish establishment has not dealt with Sweden as if it were a country, but as if it were a village.

What is happening in Sweden right now is a cultural and political revolution. The Swedes have trusted their establishment for a long time. This trust has been a part of the political culture in Sweden. But now that culture is changing — to be anti-establishment in Sweden today is not marginalized anymore. Sweden is developing a powerful anti-establishment movement, dominating the political debate.

By gross miscalculations, the Swedish establishment has eroded its own legitimacy. Today, fewer than one in four Swedes have confidence in their government. The damage that the Swedish establishment’s liberal immigration policies inflicted on Sweden during the migration crisis of 2015 — and is about to inflict during the coming migration crisis of 2016 — is likely to cause a tectonic political shift in Sweden.

The Swedish media has failed in its journalistic obligation to report objectively about the problem, and Swedish politicians have not acted in the best interest of Sweden. While Sweden faces its biggest crisis since World War II, the Swedish establishment has clearly failed to lead.

The average Swede needs to be tougher to cope with the challenges facing Sweden today and in the years to come. The problems that will face Sweden after it has received 160,000 asylum seekers in 2015 and the 150,000 asylum seekers expected in 2016 will create a political, cultural and social environment in which there is no place for political naivety and ideological blindness. To survive as a stable and civilized country where the rule of law and democracy will prevail, Sweden will be forced to recognize the threats and risks that come with massive immigration — and to respond.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel’s prime minister has invited all United Nations staff in Israel to attend a seminar on Jewish history, after a decision by a U.N. cultural body that failed to acknowledge Jewish ties to Jerusalem’s holiest site.

In the decision last month, UNESCO condemned Israel for security restrictions and other measures at the site, known to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif or the al-Aqsa compound and to Jews as Temple Mount. UNESCO referred to it only by its Arabic name.

“I was shocked to hear that UNESCO adopted a decision denying any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, our holiest site,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

“It is hard to believe that anyone, let alone an organization tasked with preserving history, could deny this link, which spans thousands of years.”

To counter what a member of Netanyahu’s staff called “this historical ignorance”, the prime minister, who is a keen historian, said he would host a special lecture on Jewish history for all UN personnel in Israel.

It was not immediately clear when the seminar would be held, but staff indicated it could be next week. It was also unclear how many UN staff and diplomats planned to attend. UNESCO had no immediate comment.

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, based in Paris, frequently issues decisions critical of Israel. Many are sponsored and seconded by Islamic states.

The holy site in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem, home to the Dome of the Rock and the Aqsa Mosque, has been a source of friction between Israel and the Muslim world for decades.

Israel seized the Old City during the 1967 Middle East war. After its capture, Israel agreed to maintain the status quo at the site, which had effectively been in Islamic hands since the 12th century.

Non-Muslims are allowed to visit the site but are not allowed to pray there. Jews instead pray at the Western Wall, a retaining wall for an ancient Jewish temple that once stood in the area where the Dome of the Rock now sits.

In recent years, ultra-nationalist religious Jews have pushed for more access to the site and even to pray there, causing tension with Muslims, who worry the status quo might change. Netanyahu has repeatedly said it will not.
