Officials in El Salvador held emergency meetings after seeing a sharp increase in the number of violent gang members being deported back to the country from the United States under the Trump administration.

Salvadoran authorities have held emergency meetings and proposed new legislation to monitor returning criminals and gang members that are returning to El Salvador after deportation, according to the Washington Post.

The move by Salvadoran officials comes as a direct result of the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration and efforts to deport more criminal illegal aliens from the U.S.

This year the U.S. has already deported 398 gang members back to El Salvador – compared to only 534 for all of 2016.

It is due to this rapid increase in deportations that Salvadoran officials like Héctor Antonio Rodríguez, the director of the country’s immigration agency, are worried about the impact the returning gang members will have in the country.

“This clearly affects El Salvador. We already have a climate of violence in the country that we are combating,” Rodríguez said. “If gang members return, of course this worries us.”

Many of the returning gang members belong to MS-13, a notoriously violent street gang that has plagued communities throughout the U.S. with horrific acts of violence. Although MS-13 started out in Salvadoran communities in Los Angeles sometime during the 1980’s, lax immigration policies and weak border security helped the gang explode in size as MS-13 originated from illegal immigrants, Breitbart Texas reported.

The recent murders of four teens in New York City have put MS-13 in the national spotlight with Attorney General Jeff Sessions declaring that U.S. authorities are going after the gang.

“The MS-13 motto is kill, rape, and control,” Sessions said. “I have a message to the gangs that are targeting our young people: We are targeting you. We are coming after you.”

Speaking at a rally in April, President Trump highlighted the importance of removing illegal alien MS-13 gang members from the U.S.:

At the heart of my administration’s efforts to restore the rule of law has been a nationwide crackdown on criminal gangs, and that means taking the fight to the sanctuary cities that shield these dangerous criminals from removal. The last very weak administration allowed thousands and thousands of gang members to cross our borders and enter into our communities, where they wreaked havoc on our citizens. The bloodthirsty cartel known as MS-13 has infiltrated our schools, threatening innocent children.

We have seen the horrible assaults and many killings all along Long Island where I grew up. We are seeing the vicious spread of transnational gangs into all 50 states and the human suffering they bring with them. I have been with the parents. It is devastation. A very respected General recently told me that MS-13 are the equivalent in their meanness to Al Qaeda. My administration will not rest until we have dismantled these violent gangs, and we are doing it rapidly, and we are sending them the hell out of our country.

On Wednesday, Breitbart Texas reported that Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, said recently obtained documents from a whistleblower show that the Obama administration knowingly admitted 16 MS-13 gang members in 2014.

Speaking from the U.S.-Mexico border in Nogales, Arizona Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced major changes to Justice Department protocol when it comes to charging and prosecuting illegal aliens. 

“For those that continue to seek improper and illegal entry into this country, be forewarned:  This is a new era.  This is the Trump era.  The lawlessness, the abdication of the duty to enforce our immigration laws and the catch and release practices of old are over,” Sessions said.

Here are the details (bolding is mine): 

Starting today, federal prosecutors are now required to consider for prosecution all of the following offenses:

  • The transportation or harboring of aliens.  As you know too well, this is a booming business down here.  No more.  We are going to shut down and jail those who have been profiting off this lawlessness — people smuggling gang members across the border, helping convicted criminals re-enter this country and preying on those who don’t know how dangerous the journey can be.
  • Further, where an alien has unlawfully entered the country, which is a misdemeanor, that alien will now be charged with a felony if they unlawfully enter or attempt enter a second time and certain aggravating circumstances are present.
  • Also, aliens that illegally re-enter the country after prior removal will be referred for felony prosecution — and a priority will be given to such offenses, especially where indicators of gang affiliation, a risk to public safety or criminal history are present.
  • Fourth:  where possible, prosecutors are directed to charge criminal aliens with document fraud and aggravated identity theft — the latter carrying a two-year mandatory minimum sentence.

Further, Sessions said prosecuting those who assault federal law enforcement officers will be a priority.

“If someone dares to assault one of our folks in the line of duty, they will do federal time for it,” Sessions said.

The Attorney General also emphasized the administration’s focus on dismantling violent cartels and dangerous gangs inside America cities.

“When we talk about MS-13 and the cartels, what do we mean?  We mean criminal organizations that turn cities and suburbs into warzones, that rape and kill innocent citizens and who profit by smuggling poison and other human beings across our borders.  Depravity and violence are their calling cards, including brutal machete attacks and beheadings,” Sessions said. “With the President’s Executive Orders on Border Security, Transnational Criminal Organizations and Public Safety as our guideposts, we will execute a strategy that once again secures the border; apprehends and prosecutes those criminal aliens that threaten our public safety; takes the fight to gangs like MS-13 and Los Zetas; and makes dismantlement and destruction of the cartels a top priority.”

An imperative bill that aims to withhold American aid to countries that refuse to take back citizens who commit crimes while living—often illegally—in the U.S. is floating around in Congress. Incredibly, the U.S. doles out tens of billions of dollars in foreign aid annually yet some recipients of Uncle Sam’s generosity boldly reject federal efforts to repatriate their most deplorable nationals.

This presents a critical problem for the U.S. and its law-abiding citizens because even the most serious felons get released from prison after serving their sentence. When federal authorities try to deport the alien convicts and officials in their homeland decline, the foreign criminals simply get released into American society. This may sound inconceivable but it happens regularly and, predictably, the recidivism rate is alarmingly high. Federal authorities claim their hands are tied when they can’t remove an alien criminal because they’re not allowed to detain them indefinitely.

Here’s an example of the consequences of this absurd system that scatters criminals into communities throughout the nation. An illegal immigrant from Haiti who stabbed a young Connecticut woman to death after completing a 15-year sentence for murder couldn’t be deported by the U.S. government because his island nation wouldn’t take him back—three times! Federal authorities released him and didn’t even bother tracking his whereabouts allowing the con, Jean Jacques, to commit yet another heinous crime. Six months after being released Jacques stabbed 25-year-old Casey Chadwick to death in Norwich, a Connecticut city of about 40,000 residents. It’s important to mention that Connecticut has long protected illegal immigrants with sanctuary policies and even offers them special drivers’ licenses, but the gruesome crime ignited fury and the state’s congressional delegation—all Democrats and avid defenders of sanctuary measures—demanded a federal investigation into the matter.

Haiti, a famously impoverished Caribbean country, gets a boatload of money every year from American taxpayers regardless of who occupies the White House. In fact, since the 2010 earthquake the U.S. government has committed $4.2 billion in assistance in addition to the regular flow of cash that Americans give the island nation. The new measure, introduced this year by Texas Congressman Brian Babin, would certainly have made a difference in the Jacques case, though it’s outrageous by any account that Haiti calls the shots in such a critical matter. “There is absolutely no reason that criminal aliens should be released back onto America’s streets, yet that is exactly what is happening by the thousands each and every year because their countries of origin refuse to take them back,” Babin said in a statement announcing his measure.

The proposed bill (Criminal Alien Deportation Enforcement Act of 2017) upholds the rule of law, the congressman says, and holds these countries accountable by stripping their foreign aid and travel visas if they fail to cooperate. Besides withholding money to uncooperative countries that refuse to take back their criminal alien nationals, the measure includes a mandate that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) submit to Congress a report every three months listing those nations. It also provides the victims of crimes committed by criminal aliens standing in federal court to sue for deportation of such criminal aliens. The congressman mentions Casey Chadwick, the 25-year-old stabbing victim, in his statement.

A federal report, issued by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is also cited by the lawmaker to make a case for his bill. It discloses that 86,288 illegal immigrants who committed 231,074 crimes were released by the Obama administration since 2013. Among them was Jacques, who was listed as a passenger on three Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) flights to Haiti but instead was set free to butcher an innocent young woman.
