Putin is no anti-Semite

Issi Leibler

A very significant portion of my life has been devoted to personally combating Russian anti-Semitism. I experienced firsthand the extent of hatred against Jews that was ingrained in most Soviet leaders and bureaucrats. I will never forget the day when a leading KGB officer proudly told me it would be the happiest day in his life to see Jews being strung up from the lamp posts in Moscow’s streets.

Russian anti-Semitism dates back centuries. It was encouraged by the Russian Orthodox Church and the czars perpetrated pogroms to divert attention from social issues. While the Communists initially condemned anti-Semitism, in practice they maintained it as a state policy.

Given all I have witnessed and battled against during the campaign to free Soviet Jewry, it would be bizarre for anyone to accuse me of being soft on Russian anti-Semitism.

But I believe the hysterical attacks on Russian President Vladimir Putin following his recent misplaced comments about interference in the U.S. elections are outrageous and could lead to dire consequences.

In a rambling interview with NBC’s Megyn Kelly, who was pressing him to respond to allegations of Russian interference in the U.S. elections, Putin facetiously referred to the possibility of Russian Jews being involved.

This was catapulted to front-page headlines, many of which accused Putin of outright anti-Semitism and of resurrecting Judeophobia, including the notorious “Protocols of the Elders of Zion.” These hysterical denunciations were echoed by the Anti-Defamation League, which called on U.S. President Donald Trump to condemn Putin as an anti-Semite for attacking Jews and other minorities. Even the normally restrained American Jewish Committee joined in the fray. A Jerusalem Post editorial urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to denounce Putin.

All these condemnations were based on taking Putin’s comments out of context and totally distorting them.

What did he actually say? In the course of an interview insinuating that he had interfered in the U.S. elections, Putin, in exasperation, turned on the interviewer and in Russian snapped, “Maybe they are not even Russians. Maybe they were Ukrainians, Tatars, Jews, just with Russian citizenship. Even that needs to be checked. Maybe they had dual citizenship. Or maybe a green card. Maybe it was the Americans who paid them for this work. How do you know? I don’t know.”

Anyone with a semblance of intelligence would appreciate that this gibberish was simply a tactic to end the interview.

The Jews were mentioned in passing, as a Russian nationality. Had he mentioned Jews alone and sought to blame them, that would be another matter. But that was not the case.

I am not entering into the issue of whether Putin, a former KGB agent, interfered in the U.S. elections.

But he certainly did not engage in anti-Semitism. There is an element of madness in the air.

The indoctrinated hatred of Jews among Russians over the past centuries cannot disappear overnight, and plenty of anti-Semitic paranoia remains among the masses.

Even if one opposes Putin’s autocratic behavior and foreign policy, he must be recognized as one of the most positive forces in Russia combating Jew-hatred and supporting the local Jewish community.

There are various explanations for Putin’s apparent philo-Semitism. Some say he was influenced as a youngster in St. Petersburg, where he was looked after by a Jewish couple and deeply affected by a German-Jewish teacher, Mina Yuditskaya, who later moved to Israel. He met her on a visit to Israel in 2005 and purchased an apartment for her in Tel Aviv, where she lived until she passed away recently.

Putin has encouraged the Jewish renaissance in Russia, developed a warm relationship with Chabad Rabbi Berel Lazare, and has many Jewish friends. He has made a distinct effort to attend Jewish functions such as the opening of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow, to which he contributed $50 million of state funds and even symbolically personally donated a month’s salary. He attends Hanukkah celebrations and conveys goodwill for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year – something utterly unprecedented from a Russian nationalist leader.

Despite his strategic involvement with the Syrians, Putin has determinedly kept the channels to Israel open. He has personally visited Israel on several occasions, making it the first country to visit after his election in 2012. He speaks warmly of the Jewish state, expressing pride that it contains the largest diaspora of Russian Jews. At the Western Wall, he donned a kippah – undoubtedly making his Bolshevik predecessors turn in their graves and enraging his Arab allies.

Putin holds regular meetings with Netanyahu, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and other Jewish leaders, who all testify to his deep respect for Israel, especially its military and intelligence capabilities.

This is not to say that we should be party to idealistic delusions and could necessarily rely on Putin if he were forced to choose between supporting Israel and abandoning his control of Syria. For the time being, we will continue the balancing act and hope we can sustain the relationship.

But to accuse this man of anti-Semitism and link him with the dark forces of Russian Jew-baiting because of an ad lib comment taken out of context is utter madness. If such hysteria is not halted, it could inflict enormous harm on the Jewish people and Israel.

We have enough enemies and do not need to abuse those who display genuine friendship toward us.

Saudi Arabia vows to obtain nuclear weapons if Iran does

March 15, 2018

In US interview, crown prince Mohammed bin Salman threatens atomic arms race, says the Iranian supreme leader ‘very much like Hitler’

Saudi Arabia’s crown prince warned in a US television interview on Thursday that if Tehran got a nuclear weapon, his country would follow suit.

“Saudi Arabia does not want to acquire any nuclear bomb, but without a doubt, if Iran developed a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible,” Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in an excerpt of the interview that aired Thursday on “CBS This Morning.”

The full interview will be broadcast on Sunday’s “60 Minutes” show.

In the excerpt, the prince said in Arabic that Iran is “far from being equal to Saudi Arabia,” with its smaller army and economy.

But, he added, Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is like Adolf Hitler “because he wants to expand. He wants to create his own project in the Middle East very much like Hitler who wanted to expand at the time.

“Many countries around the world and in Europe did not realize how dangerous Hitler was until what happened, happened. I don’t want to see the same events happening in the Middle East,” he said.

The interview was the first with a Saudi leader for a US network since 2005.

On Sunday, Prime Minister BenjaminNetanyahu warned against “nuclearizing the Middle East,” saying that the nuclear deal signed by Iran and the international community could, in its current form, lead to a dangerous arms race.

“Many countries in the Middle East say that they too should be allowed to enrich uranium if Iran is allowed to,” Netanyahu said at the opening of his weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem detailing his meetings with US officials, including President Donald Trump, during his five day-trip to the US.

In recent months Saudi Arabia has announced its intentions of embarking on a massive program to become “self-sufficient” in producing nuclear fuel. Preliminary plans suggest the Saudis may be looking to build as many as 17 reactors in all.

In his meeting with Netanyahu earlier this month, Trump reportedly refused to commit to halting an emerging deal to sell reactors to Saudi Arabia, telling the prime minister that if the US did not supply the reactors, then the Russians or Chinese would, Channel 10 news said, citing unnamed senior Israeli officials.

Netanyahu and his team reportedly requested that, if the Americans insist on going ahead with building the reactors, Saudi Arabia be prevented from enriching uranium by itself. They demanded that this be a precondition for the entire deal, the report added.

The Internet of Things Poses Human Health Risks: Scientists Question the Safety of Untested 5G Technology at International Conference

March 15, 2018

Replicated research shows that Millimeter waves – used by the Department of Defense in crowd control weapons – interacts with human skin and eyes.

Teton Village, WY — (SBWIRE) — 03/09/2017 — Israeli research studies presented at an international conference reveal that the same electromagnetic frequencies used for crowd control weapons form the foundation of the latest network – branded as 5G – that will tie together more than 50 billion devices as part of the Internet of Things. Current investigations of wireless frequencies in the millimeter and submillimeter range confirm that these waves interact directly with human skin, specifically the sweat glands. Dr. Ben-Ishai of the Department of Physics, Hebrew University, Israel recently detailed how human sweat ducts act like an array of helical antennas when exposed to these wavelengths. Scientists cautioned that before rolling out 5G technologies that use these frequencies, research on human health effects needed to be done first to ensure the public and environment are protected.

“If you are one of the millions who seek faster downloads of movies, games and virtual pornography, a solution is at hand, that is, if you do not mind volunteering your living body in a giant uncontrolled experiment on the human population. At this moment, residents of the Washington, DC region – like those of 100 Chinese cities – are about to be living within a vast experimental Millimeter wave network to which they have not consented – all courtesy of American taxpayers,” stated Dr. Devra Davis, President of the Environmental Health Trust. Davis proposed that the Trump Administration could provide funds for research and training by implementing 2 cents per month fee on all wireless devices, their manufacturers and network providers. “Training and research in bioelectromagnetics including the evaluation of new technologies is essential before universal deployment”.

“This work shows that the same parts of the human skin that allow us to sweat also respond to 5G radiation much like an antenna that can receive signals. We need the potential adverse health impacts of 5G to be seriously evaluated before we blanket our children, ourselves and the environment with this radiation.”

Research studies from the Dielectric Spectroscopy Laboratory of the Department of Applied Physics, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, headed by Dr. Yuri Feldman, indicate that millimeter and submillimeter waves may lead to preferential layer absorption. The number of sweat ducts within human skin varies from two million to four million. The researchers pointed to replicated peer research of these biological effects in laboratory research conducted in other countries and considered this mechanism of action well proven.

Today’s cellular and Wi-Fi networks rely on microwaves – a type of electromagnetic radiation utilizing frequencies up to 6 gigahertz (GHz) in order to wirelessly transmit voice or data. However, 5 G applications will require unlocking of new spectrum bands in higher frequency ranges above 6 GHz to 100 GHz and beyond, utilizing submillimeter and millimeter waves – to allow ultra-high rates of data to be transmitted in the same amount of time as compared with previous deployments of microwave radiation.

“Most people are unaware that these waves are cycling several billion times per second. 75 GHz is in fact 75,000,000,000 cycles per second, ” stated Davis about these frequencies rapidly penetrating the skin.

For years, the U.S., Russian and Chinese defense agencies have been developing weapons that rely on the capability of this electromagnetic technology to induce unpleasant burning sensations on the skin as a form of crowd control. Millimeter waves are utilized by the U.S. Army in crowd dispersal guns called Active Denial Systems. Dr. Paul Ben-Ishai pointed to research that was commissioned by the U.S. Army to find out why people ran away when the beam touched them. “If you are unlucky enough to be standing there when it hits you, you will feel like your body is on fire.” The U.S. Department of Defense explains how: “The sensation dissipates when the target moves out of the beam. The sensation is intense enough to cause a nearly instantaneous reflex action of the target to flee the beam.”

The conference at the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies at Hebrew University (IIAS) was organized in cooperation with the U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and the Environmental Health Trust (EHT).

Verizon just announced that 5G networks will be tested in 11 U.S. cities. 5G Networks will involve the deployment of millions of antennas nationwide, thousands in each city, because millimeter waves cannot easily travel through buildings or other obstacles. Proposed installations have led to public outcry in residential areas where homeowners do not want antennas mounted at their yards or near schools.

Several researchers at the conference raised concerns that current regulations are not adequate to protect public health.

“There is an urgent need to evaluate 5G health effects now before millions are exposed. We need to know if 5G increases the risk of skin diseases such as melanoma or other skin cancers,” stated Ron Melnick, the National Institutes of Health scientist, now retired, who led the design of the National Toxicology Program study on cell phone radiofrequency radiation.

Dariusz Leszczynski, PhD, Chief Editor of Radiation and Health, stated that the international organization – called ICNIRP – developing recommendations for public exposure limits of these higher frequencies was planning to classify all the skin in the human body as belonging to the limbs rather than to the head or torso. Leszczynski cautioned that, “If you classify skin as limbs – no matter where the skin is – you are permitted to expose it more than otherwise.”

“The use of sub-terahertz (Millimeter wave) communications technology (cell phones, Wi-Fi, network transmission antennas) could cause humans to feel physical pain via nociceptors, ” stated Dr. Yael Stein, MD, who wrote a letter to the Federal Communications Commission about 5G Spectrum Frontiers.

{Everyone had to see this coming. – LS}

The next leader of Saudi Arabia says his country would quickly obtain a nuclear bomb if arch rival Iran successfully develops its own nuclear weapon. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made the statement about a possible nuclear arms race in the Middle East to “CBS This Morning” co-host Norah O’Donnell, in an interview set to air on this Sunday’s “60 Minutes.”

The interview is the first with a Saudi leader for a U.S. television network since 2005. O’Donnell, a contributing correspondent for “60 Minutes,” asked the 32-year-old crown prince about the political, economic and social reforms unfolding in his kingdom.

The heir to the throne has ushered in significant changes for women in the conservative Sunni Muslim kingdom, including granting them the right to drive for the first time. The crown prince discussed foreign policy, including his views on Saudi Arabia’s longtime foe, Shiite Muslim-ruled Iran.

Below is a preview of O’Donnell’s conversation with the crown prince, and above is a clip in which Mohammed explains why, in his view, Iran’s supreme leader is behaving like Adolf Hitler during the rise of Nazi Germany.

NORAH O’DONNELL: You’ve been rivals for centuries. At its heart, what is this rift about? Is it a battle for Islam?

MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN: Iran is not a rival to Saudi Arabia. Its army is not among the top five armies in the Muslim world. The Saudi economy is larger than the Iranian economy. Iran is far from being equal to Saudi Arabia.

O’DONNELL: But I’ve seen that you called the Ayatollah Khamenei, “the new Hitler” of the Middle East.

MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN: Absolutely.

O’DONNELL: Why?

MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN: Because he wants to expand. He wants to create his own project in the Middle East very much like Hitler who wanted to expand at the time. Many countries around the world and in Europe did not realize how dangerous Hitler was until what happened, happened. I don’t want to see the same events happening in the Middle East.

O’DONNELL: Does Saudi Arabia need nuclear weapons to counter Iran?

MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN: Saudi Arabia does not want to acquire any nuclear bomb, but without a doubt if Iran developed a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible.

Let Assad win? A response to Max Boot

March 15, 2018

Source Link: Let Assad win? A response to Max Boot

{Genocide is not an acceptable path to harmony. – LS}

Max Boot, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, is a best-selling author and a prolific military historian. Earlier this month, he began a stint as a Washington Post columnist, and the appointment couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. But his March 8 column on Syria, entitled “To Save Syrians, Let Assad Win,” was a doozy. Boot argued:

The way to save lives, I’ve sadly concluded, is to let [Syrian President Bashar] Assad win as quickly as possible. Aleppo was a charnel house in 2016. But now that it has fallen to Assad’s forces, pictures are circulating of civilians strolling through its rebuilt public park. It’s terrible that they have to live under Assad, but at least they’re alive. Tyranny is preferable to endless and useless war.

Boot could not be more wrong. More than a half million Syrians are not strolling in public parks but are buried under them because of Assad’s ethnic and sectarian cleansing. Assad’s misrule and deliberate targeting of civilians have convinced many times that number to flee.

So, with tongue-in-cheek and to illustrate in the spirit of collegial debate why such logic is wrong, let’s apply Boot’s logic through history:

1940: “To Save Brits, Let Hitler Win”

The “Battle of Britain” was waged over the skies of Great Britain for three and a half months in the summer and autumn of 1940. Nazi Germany’s Luftwaffe repeatedly bombed London and other population centers to try to beat the British into submission. The destruction caused by the Nazi bombing was astounding. More than 40,000 civilians died, and another 50,000 were wounded. To support Great Britain would be to engage in Great Power rivalry. If only Winston Churchill had had the good sense to surrender, maybe the British could get back to gardening and strolling in public parks. Tyranny would be a small price to pay.

1953: “To Save Korea, Let Kim Il-sung Win”

The Korean War killed 2.5 million civilians and is a prime example of Great Power conflict in the Cold War. More than 300,000 Americans fought for Korea’s independence against communist aggression, and almost twice as many South Koreans fought; many never came home. And while China, North Korea, and the United States signed an armistice in 1953, the war technically continues. Indeed, with North Korea now a nuclear power with an increasingly sophisticated missile arsenal, is the price of freedom from tyranny worth it? Are 51 million South Koreans really worth the hassle? And even if North Korean civilians suffer in concentration camps for the crime of not crying adequately at the funerals of Dear Leader Kim Jong-un’s late father and grandfather, Pyongyang has some new skyscrapers and a really neat synchronized cheerleader routine so, there’s that.

1975: “To Save Cambodians, Let Pol Pot Win”

Pol Pot may have been a racist, murderous authoritarian, but as he sought to return Cambodia to its agricultural roots, shouldn’t the United States have been supportive? Sure, the Khmer Rouge might have wanted to shoot anyone who spoke a foreign language or who wore eyeglasses, but wouldn’t it be better just to let them consolidate control and build pyramids out of human skulls so that loyal acolytes of Pol Pot might get on with their lives in peace and tyranny?

2018: “To Save Afghanistan, Let the Taliban Win”

Afghanistan throughout its history, like Syria today, has long been the epicenter of Great Power competition and, for nearly 40 years, has also experienced almost constant internecine struggle. Why bother? The Taliban might execute women in stadiums, deny girls education, profit off opium, and rape young Hazara boys but, when they ran Afghanistan between 1996 and 2001, they also maintained an illusion of stability. When I visited the Taliban’s “emirate” in March 2000, they also had parks. Wouldn’t the ability of bearded Pushtun men to stroll in parks in peace be worth the lack of freedom? We blew that opportunity in 2001, but couldn’t we try to give the Taliban their peace now? Who cares if, imbued with the narrative that they had defeated two superpowers, they would become Islamic State version 2.0.

There are other examples, but let’s be serious: Boot’s policy prescription would signal to any dictator that if only he employed enough brutality against his population, no matter what the regional impact, he could have his cake and eat it too. True, the Syrian opposition is a mixed bag, but let’s not create a self-fulfilling prophecy in which we urge abandonment of anti-Assad Syrians and then complain that they don’t have enough support to win.

Boot is right that Syria is a proxy war and has become a center of Great Power conflict. That’s unfortunate for Syrians, but US engagement overseas isn’t just for positioning — it’s for a vision of the world that doesn’t excuse chemical weapons use, ethnic cleansing, or sectarian incitement. Russia, Iran, and perhaps even Turkey approach Syria through a different lens, and the cost of their victory would reverberate far beyond Syria.

Syria is tough to resolve; there is no magic formula. But allowing Assad to win? That might be the worst of all possible scenarios. Assad won’t bring stability — it was on his watch that a local protest amplified into civil war — and the Hamza Ali Al-Khateeb case illustrates why ordinary Syrians will never acquiesce to life, even under Assad tyranny. Nor would Assad — and his Russian and Iranian protectors — be content with simple stability. Boot is a fine historian but, when it comes to Syria, his prescription promises a future worse than the past.

Turkish Newspaper Close To President Erdogan Calls To Form Joint Islamic Army To Fight Israel

March 14, 2018
March 7, 2018
https://www.memri.org/reports/turkish-newspaper-close-president-erdogan-calls-form-joint-islamic-army-fight-israel#_edn2

Introduction

On December 12, 2017, ahead of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul,  the Turkish daily Yeni Şafak, which is close to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling AKP party, published an article  titled “A Call for Urgent Action,”[1] which also appeared on the paper’s website under the title “What If an Army of Islam Was Formed against Israel?”[2] The article called on the 57 member states of the OIC to form a joint “Army of Islam” to besiege and attack the state of Israel. It notes that such a joint army will greatly exceed the Israeli army in manpower, equipment and budget, and presents statistics to prove this. It also advocates establishing joint bases for the army’s ground, air and naval forces that will arrive from all over the Muslim world to besiege Israel, while noting that Pakistan, as the only nuclear country, has “a special status” among the OIC countries. An interactive map provides information on military forces stationed in various locations and the role they can play in the potential joint Muslim attack on Israel.

The Source Of The Yeni Şafak Article: The SADAT Company Website

The main points of the article are taken from the website of the Turkish SADAT International Defense and Consulting Company, which provides consultancy on defense and warfare, both conventional and unconventional, and on military organization, training and gear. The company has an agenda of promoting pan-Islamic military cooperation. According to its mission statement, it seeks “to establish defense collaboration and defense industry cooperation among Islamic countries, to help the Islamic world take its rightful place among the superpowers by providing… strategic consultancy and training services to the militaries and homeland security forces of Islamic countries.”[3]

According to Israeli security sources, the SADAT company is involved in aiding Hamas, and seeks to assist – with funds and military gear – the creation of a “Palestine Army” to fight Israel.[4]

SADAT Founder Adnan Tanrıverdi

The SADAT company was founded by Erdoğan’s senior advisor on military affairs, retired general Adnan Tanrıverdi, and is chaired by his son, Melih Tanrıverdi. Adnan Tanrıverdi (b. 1944) served in the Turkish army’s Artillery Corps and headed the Home Front Command in northern Cyprus.  He is an expert on assymetric warfare, and was dismissed from the Turkish military in 1996 for his Islamists leadnings. A former Turkish army officer, Ahmet Yavuz, described him as “an enemy of Atatürk” and stated that his dismissal from the army was not surprising.[5]

Image: Sadat.com.tr

The Yeni Şafak article is based on a PDF booklet featuring a number of articles by Tanrıverdi, as well as other materials, that appeared on the homepage of SADAT’s website and has since been removed.[6] Some of the articles are virulently anti-Israel and promote the goal of arming the Palestinians and forming an Army of Islam to eliminate Israel.

One of these articles, titled “SADAT and the Future of the Muslim World” describes Israel as “the outpost of the new Crusade and a dagger in the heart of Islam,” and “the eyes, ears and fist of the Christian World.” A second article, titled “How to Solve the Palestinian Question?” emphasizes the need to utilize the OIC as the basis for a permanent defense cooperation committee, and also describes his vision of establishing military bases for the purpose of liberating Palestine. An article titled “Palestine Too Should Have an Army” articulates Tanrıverdi’s vision of forming a Palestinian army equipped with tanks and other heavy weaponry, and adds that this army, along with a united Army of Islam, can bring about Israel’s military defeat within 10 days and its diplomatic defeat within 20 days.

The fact that Yeni Şafak echoes Tanrıverdi’s articles indicates that regime-associated media is promoting an agenda of attacking Israel.

Tanrıverdi Associate Arrested In Israel On Suspicion Of Aiding Hamas

Recently, Israel became aware of Tanrıverdi’s activities after it arrested a Turkish academic, Cemil Tekeli, on suspicion of aiding Hamas terrorists in Turkey. According to the Israeli paper Makor Rishon, Tekeli, who has since been deported to Turkey, is a close associate of Adnan Tanrıverdi. The Makor Rishon report featured a photo of him with both Adnan and Melih Tanrıverdi:[7]

From left to right: Melih Tanrıverdi, Saudi colonel, Adnan Tanrıverdi, and Cemil Tekeli

The following are excerpts from the Yeni Şafak article, along with some of the images and infographics that accompanied it. Bold text was highlighted in the original :

“This Wednesday, Istanbul will host an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, at which decisions on military and economic issues will presumably be made. In this framework, it becomes evident that the member states’ [joint] military might greatly exceeds that of Israel. Moreover, in a possible military operation, this superiority [can] be realized on the ground by [setting up] joint military bases for ground, air and naval forces. Below are a map and statistics presenting a comparison between Israel and the [proposed] Army of Islam…

“What If An Army Of Islam Was Formed Against Israel?

“If the OIC member states unite and form a joint military force, it will be the largest army in the world. These countries’ total population is 1,674,526,931. The number of soldiers in active service in these countries is at least 5,206,100. Their [overall] military defense budget, of $174,728,420, is also worthy of emphasis.

“Half Of Istanbul

“As for Israel, it is significantly inferior. The population of this country, which attempted to occupy Jerusalem while surrounded by Muslim states, is 8,049,314. Note that the population of Istanbul alone exceeds 14 million. The number of soldiers in active service in the [Israeli] occupation forces is 160,000, and [Israel’s] defense budget is approximately $15, 600,000,000.

Infographic comparing the OIC countries with the Israel:

Defense Budget: OIC: $174,728,420; Israel: $15,600,000. Population: OIC: 1,674,526,931; Israel: 8,049,314. Soldiers: OIC: 5,206,100; Israel: 160,000″

“Islamic Countries Will Lay Siege To Israel

“Among the decisions that can be taken at the OIC [summit] is to form a ‘Jerusalem Task Group.’ In this framework, military steps are likely to be taken. The [Muslim] armies, ranging from Africa to Asia, surpass the Israeli [army in might]. So if an Islamic army is formed, Israel will be under a siege.

“At The First Stage: 250 Thousand Soldiers

“In a possible military operation, the first step is expected to involve 250,000 soldiers, and the establishment of joint land, air and naval bases for use in the short term.

“500 tanks and armored vehicles, 100 war planes, 500 attack helicopters and 50 warships and submarines can be mobilized.

Interactive map providing information on particular bases and missions in a possible operation against Israel. Clicking on various locations provides the following information, for example:

Eskişehir KonyaKilis:  In case of a military operation, air bases in various locations will house 100 planes and 500 attack helicopters, and also serve as reinforcement and supply bases. 250,000 military staff, including pilots, will be ready for duty.

[Northern] Cyprus: In case of a military operation, the 50 warships and submarines stationed in naval bases can take an active role [in the fight] against Israel in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. The Turkish navy, among others, will participate in the operation. Together the forces will comprise 250,000 men.

“Military Bases Close to Israel Available For Immediate Action

“The war planes that will be dispatched to the region from greater distances will be stationed in airbases [closer to Israel]. Israel will most likely to be besieged by the naval fleets that will be sent to the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

“The Necessary Equipment Exists

“The military capability of the OIC member states is considerable. These armies have the necessary equipment to carry out a military operation on land, sea and air.

“Even Turkey Alone Is Superior [To Israel]

“Turkey will serve as an important headquarters during the operation, due to its land, air and naval infrastructures. The Turkish army, which carried out ‘Operation Euphrates Shield’ [in Syria in 2017] with great success, is now ranked the world’s seventh strongest army, and the second largest army among the NATO powers. Turkey has approximately 4,000 tanks and 1,000 war planes and other aircraft. Its navy made significant progress during the last years, with 194 vessels at its disposal.

“As the only country which possesses nuclear weapons, Pakistan has an important status among the 57 Muslim [OIC] countries…

“Those who believe that they are the owners of Jerusalem today will not find a single tree to hide behind tomorrow”

“Asia’s Military Defiance

“In a statement, Malaysian Defense Minister [Hishammuddin] Hussein described Trump’s recognition [of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital] as a blow to Muslims, and added: ‘The Malaysian armed forces are ready to fulfill their duty regarding Jerusalem.’

“Turkey Is Forming Alliances

“In recent years, Turkey has launched a series of collaborations with [OIC] member states. The joint military drill with our Iraqi neighbors conveyed a clear message to the terrorists, and Turkey is [also] engaging in new collaborations with Qatar, Somalia and other Gulf and African countries. In this context it should be underlined that Turkey is taking steps to realize the model of the ‘Army of Islam,’ forging alliances with many Muslim countries to increase its military mobility.”

The United States is monitoring information indicating that North Korea may be running a large underground military base in Syria that could be used for advanced weaponry and nuclear-related work, according to regional reports and U.S. officials tracking the situation.

Regional reports have begun to surface indicating North Korea has neared completion of the construction of an underground military base located near Qardaha in Syria, the hometown of embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

“According to … satellite images and a military source the underground facility has been under construction for seven years, started by the beginning if the Syrian revolution in March 2011,” Zaman Al Wasl, a Syrian news outlet, reported earlier this month. “The high level of secrecy and tight guard in the North Korean base raise speculations whether it’s a nuclear facility or overseas depot for North Korean weapons.”

U.S. officials told the Washington Free Beacon they are monitoring these reports and efforts by North Korea to help Assad rebuild Syria’s chemical weapons factories.

“We are aware of reports regarding possible DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] assistance to Syria to rebuild its chemical weapons capabilities,” a State Department official, speaking on background, told the Free Beacon. “We take these allegations very seriously and we are working assiduously to prevent the Assad regime from obtaining material and equipment to support its chemical weapons program.”

The Trump administration has been engaged in efforts to counter North Korea’s proliferation in Syria, particularly its efforts to supply Assad with chemical weapons.

“The United States has long expressed its deep concerns about both the assistance the DPRK provides to Syria’s weapons programs and Syria’s ongoing possession and use of chemical weapons—both activities in defiance of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions,” the State Department official said.

The underground North Korean military base could be hiding more than just chemical weapons, according to regional reports indicating that the sheer size of the base, which is mostly situated within a mountain, raises concerns of nuclear work.

Purported satellite images of the base circulating on the internet indicate that only a small portion of the facility is visible from above ground.

“Long tunnels have been built during the last seven years in a deep valley in Qardaha under the supervision of North Korean experts,” the Zaman Al Wasl outlet reported.

The United Nations recently cited North Korea for its increased efforts to meddle in Syria and provide the Assad regime with new caches of chemical weapons.

This has fueled U.S. concerns about the hermit nation at a time when the Trump administration is pursuing diplomatic talks regarding North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

Evidence that North Korea is working to bolster the Assad regime is likely to fuel further international tensions as Iran and Russia undertake similar efforts. The newest underground facility may facilitate further Iranian and North Korean military collaboration.

The Trump administration is continuing efforts to crackdown on this military collaboration and is urging allies to apply similar pressure.

“North Korea is a significant threat to international security and the Assad regime’s ongoing use of chemical weapons is a similar affront to international law,” the State Department official said. “We work with all our partners to uphold U.N. Security Council Resolutions and prevent North Korea and Syria from further threatening international peace and stability.”

Caught On Tape: Islamist Erdogan Makes Hand-Sign Of Ultranationalist “Grey Wolves”

March 14, 2018

With the characteristic greeting gesture of Turkish ultranationalists and neo-fascists Grey Wolves, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan greeted the crowd at a meeting of his party AKP in Mersin, in South Turkey.

He recited also his favorite poem “One heart, one flag, one nation, one homeland.”

As KeepTalkingGreece.com reports, The Grey Wolves (Turkish: Bozkurtlar) is a Turkish ultranationalist organization with close links to to the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) with which Erdogan has made an alliance ahead of the 2019 elections.

The characteristic hand sign used by Grey Wolves and MHP supporters represents a wolf head. In Turkish nationalist myth, the Turks originate from a wolf.

Next to Erdogan, a high-ranking official – maybe a minister? – had raised his hand in the Rabia sign, a gesture symbolizing the resistance of the Muslim Brotherhood to the Sisi regime in Egypt.

When the crowds began to shout at Erdogan to engage them in the military operaiton in Afrin, he told them

“When it is time to order the mobilization, I will join first and then all of you, because we believe in martyrdom,” he replied.

“They do not know the Turks, they do not know the Turkish nation, they do not know the Turkish armed forces,” he warned.

There is talk that the part of the MHP will challenge the alliance with Erdogan in the next elections. Cities in the south of Turkey were the first to vote for MHP when it gained power in the beginning of 2000’s.

The Trump administration brought together Israel and a number of Arab nations, including those that have no official ties with the Jewish state, to strategize solutions for Gaza’s population.

On Tuesday, Israeli representatives met with their counterparts from five Arab countries with whom the Jewish state currently has no formal diplomatic relations to discuss improving the lives of Gaza Strip residents.

While representatives of Egypt and Jordan also attended, the Palestinian Authority boycotted the meeting, refusing to participate in any manner.

“Thank you for putting all tensions aside to work with us,” tweeted President Donald Trump’s Mideast envoy Jason Greenblatt. “Everyone left politics at the door and focused on practical solutions.”

“We regret that the Palestinian Authority is not here with us today,” Greenblatt lamented. “This is not about politics. This is about the health, safety and happiness of the people of Gaza, and of all Palestinians, Israelis and Egyptians,” he added.

Among the Arab nations that attended the meeting were Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman. Other critical stakeholders who attended the meeting included United Nations representatives and individuals representing USAID and the Office of the Quartet, bringing together almost two dozen nations and international organizations.

While the PA opted to sit out the White House meeting, it sent its Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and Intelligence Head Majed Faraj to Gaza on Tuesday. The PA officials were traveling to a wastewater facility inauguration, but instead were attacked in an assassination attempt on their convoy.

The White House gathering follows an emergency meeting of donors in Brussels that Israel recently called in an attempt to generate investments in Gazan infrastructure. Facing a 43.6% unemployment rate and a security and economic blockade, Gazans remain at the mercy of the bitter power struggle for control of the enclave between the Hamas terrorist group and Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction.

The statement came as Erdogan addressed local administrators at the presidential compound in Ankara. He also said civilian residents of the area were being evacuated through humanitarian corridors organized by Turkey.

Ankara launched an operation in northwestern Syria two months ago after the US announced that it was planning to boost the predominantly-Kurdish militia force, SDF, with training and weapons. The militias played the role of the ground force for the US-led siege of Raqqa, the now-destroyed stronghold of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS).

The Turkish government considers Syrian Kurdish militias an extension of the domestic Kurdish militant movement, the PKK. Ankara and the PKK have been locked in a decades-long armed conflict that claimed thousands of lives. The empowerment of Syrian Kurds was perceived as a serious threat to national security by the Erdogan government.

Ankara is not planning to seize Syrian territories, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday during a press conference. “The aim of Afrin operation ‘Olive Branch’ is to eliminate terrorists in the region,” the minister stated. He added that Turkey agreed with the US that militants should leave the Afrin region and nearby Manbij city in northeastern Syria.

In the meantime, the Syrian Kurdish YPG (People’s Protection Units) said Erdogan is unrealistic about his plans in Afrin. “This evening he [Erdogan] will take all of Afrin?” YPG spokesman Nouri Mahmoud asked, according to Reuters. “Erdogan is lying to the people, I don’t know how this would happen,” he added. Turkey considers the YPG to be an arm of the PKK movement, dubbed a terrorist organization by Ankara.

Erdogan has reproached NATO allies over their failure to support his “counter-terrorist” operation in the Kurdish-held Syrian region.

“Hey NATO where are you? We’re fighting so much. NATO, is Turkey not a NATO country? Where are you? You’ve invited NATO-member states to Afghanistan,” Erdogan said in an inflammatory comment.
