U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended at least 916 illegal immigrants from countries linked to terrorism trying to sneak into the United States across the Southwest border in 2014 and 2015, according to a Breitbart News tally gleaned from federal datareleased under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

During that period, nearly 370 may have successfully entered the United States, according to U.S. government estimate of “gotaways.”

The number of illegals from terror-linked countries, officially known as Special Interest Aliens (SIAs), arrested along the U.S.-Mexico border has nearly doubled to 462 in 2015 alone, from 255 in 2011, the last year for which the government released data without a FOIA request.

Although thousands of illegals have been apprehended recently at the Southwest border from nearly all countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, only a portion of them are from nations that have been officially linked to terrorism.

At least 867 of the 916 terror-linked illegals who were detained at the U.S.-Mexico border over the last two years are from in and around countries where the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) has launched attacks and carried out recruitment operations, including:

Afghanistan (4); Pakistan (65); Egypt (15); Bangladesh (579); Iraq (11); Iran (11); Jordan (5); Turkey (80); Saudi Arabia (25); United Arab Emirates (1); Lebanon (3); Kuwait (6); Somalia (4); Turkmenistan (1); Tajikistan (4); Uzbekistan (7); Philippines (44); and Yemen (2).

The U.S. military warned that there are networks in Latin American that specialize in smuggling in illegals from countries affiliated with terrorism. Moreover, the military has sounded the alarm on jihadi operations in the region carried out by ISIS and the Shiite Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy.

Breitbart News analyzed records for fiscal years 2014 and 2015 released by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency in response to various FOIA requests. CBP is a component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (CBP). The U.S. Border Patrol is an arm of CBP.

The FOIA documents reveal that on average, for nearly every 10 attempted illegal crossings at the U.S. Mexico border, about four people actually got through in 2013, the latest year for which data of successful entries, or “getaways,” has been made public.

Bases on those figures, Breitbart News estimates that nearly 370 illegal migrants from terror-linked countries may have successfully entered the United States in 2014 (182) and 2015 (189).

It is unclear how many of the SIAs were released into U.S. communities during immigration proceedings.

However, a government estimate released in 2006 reveals that nearly half of the terror-linked aliens who are apprehended are subsequently released into U.S. communities. Nearly 85 percent were projected to abscond upon being released.

In 2015 alone, the U.S. government apprehended at least 480 illegals from terror-linked countries in between official ports of entry at or near the Southwest (462), Northern (10), and Coastal (8) borders.

The figures available for the Northern and Coastal borders only cover migrants arrested during four months of 2015 (June 1 thru Sept. 30), which means the overall apprehension figure could be much larger.

In 2014, U.S. border authorities detained 454 migrants from terror-linked countries along the U.S.-Mexico border alone. There was no data available for apprehensions at the other borders.

Illegals from terror-linked countries are officially known as Special Interest Aliens (SIAs). They come from 34 countries located in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa as well as the territories of West Bank and Gaza.

The FOIA records did not include the number of illegals from those territories. However, the data does show that there were four from Israel detained at the Southwest border in 2014 and 16 the following year.

Moreover, at least three from Israel were arrested at the Northern (2) and Coastal (1) borders during part of 2015. The migrants from Israel are not included in Breitbart News’ count of SIAs.

Most Special Interest Aliens apprehended along the U.S.-Mexico border during 2014 (284) and 2015 (295) are from Bangladesh. The majority are males between 20 and 50 years old apprehended  in Texas.

The U.S. government has been hesitant to release SIAs apprehension data. The last time those figures were made public was in 2011.

Leaked documents obtained by Breitbart Texas revealed information for 2014, the latest figures available until this report.

The data obtained by Breitbart Texas shows that at least 474 migrants from terror-linked countries were detained at all U.S. borders during most of 2014.

Of those, at least 454 were arrested at the U.S.-Mexico Border alone, according to Breitbart News Analysis.

While the number of SIAs apprehensions along the Southwest border have surged, those near or at the Northern and Coastal borders appear to have dramatically declined since 2011.

According to the latest assessment using a metric that was dropped by the Obama administration, federal authorities controlled less than half of the nearly 2,000-mile long Southwest border and about 2 percent of the estimated 4,000-mile long Northern border as of 2010.

The data extracted from the FOIA records show the following number of SIAs primarily apprehended along the U.S.-Mexico border over the last two years: (The columns are the same in the original Breitbart article. — DM)

White House: Enough with the Clinton investigations

August 25, 2016

White House: Enough with the Clinton investigations, Washington ExaminerSusan Crabtree, August 24, 2016

The White House on Wednesday defended the FBI’s decision not to bring charges against Hillary Clinton, even in the face of new evidence that she gave Clinton Foundation donors special access while secretary of state.

Asked if a special prosecutor is needed to investigate Clinton’s alleged conflicts of interest while serving as the nation’s top diplomat, White House press secretary Earnest argued that there have been plenty of investigations into Clinton’s tenure already.

“It’s hard for anybody to make a persuasive case that there hasn’t been enough investigating,” Earnest told reporters Wednesday, noting months of probing by the FBI and numerous investigations by Republicans in Congress.

Earnest defended the FBI investigations by calling them “thorough, professional” and “unfettered by politics even in this highly charged political atmosphere.”

“I can tell you that President Obama and the administration have complete confidence in the independent prosecutors and the FBI who devoted significant time investigating Clinton’s email practices,” he said.

“I don’t think anybody would question the political independence of someone like [FBI Director] James Comey,” he said, noting that Comey had served in the Bush administration as well.

The Associated Press on Tuesday reported that more than half of the people outside the government who met with Clinton while she was secretary of state were donors to the Clinton Foundation, and said it was an “extraordinary proportion indicating her possible ethics challenges if elected president.”

The Clinton campaign and her supporters have argued that the Clinton Foundation has 7,000 donors, and that the meetings with 60 of them amount to less than 1 percent of the total number.

Brad Woodhouse and the liberal group Correct the Record say the total number of meetings the AP used excluded those with U.S. federal employees or foreign government representatives, and the meetings the AP examined included only the first half of Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.

Scarborough to Hillary spox: “Go back to middle school”

August 25, 2016

Scarborough to Hillary spox: “Go back to middle school”, Hot Air, Ed Morrissey, August 25, 2016

Over the last few days, Hillary Clinton apologists have taken to the airwaves and Internet to declare any criticism of the Clinton Foundation as an attack on charity itself. James Carville launched these talking points, suggesting that critics would find themselves damned to Hell if the foundation shut down or curtailed its activities. Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough punctured Carville’s trial balloon earlier this week with barely-disguised disgust.

After watching a clip of Hillary Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon trot out the same argument on Andrea Mitchell’s show yesterday, Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski didn’t even bother with the disguise, calling the argument “pathetic” (via The Hill):

(Video at the link. — DM)

‘Pathetic’ – @JoeNBC on Clinton campaign’s defensive play in foundation donor controversy

“That is so pathetic, you all are not really that pathetic, are you?” the “Morning Joe” host shot back.

“You’re going to actually say that if Bill Clinton doesn’t have the opportunity to shake down billionaires, that AIDS will not be cured?” he asked.

Scarborough went on to mock Fallon’s defense, saying that President Obama is “Moses and has the ability to stop the tides from rising in our time.”

“And Bill Clinton, shaking down billionaires in Kazakhstan, while doing deals on the side and getting down $550,000 for a one-hour speech — that’s our only path forward to curing AIDS,” he said.

“You’re not really that pathetic, are you? Because if that’s the best line of attack you have, you need to go back to middle school and start all over again.”

Yes … yes, they really are that pathetic. And they’re not alone, either. The internet is filling up with the argument that a shutdown or scale-back of Clinton Foundation operations will suddenly leave the world’s downtrodden with no other path to salvation, and that its critics literally just want little children to die. That’s an argument based on nothing more than pathos and partisan hackery, making it both literally and figuratively pathetic.

Here are two inconvenient facts for those trotting out this argument:

  • There are a number of charitable organizations that work on the same issues as the Clinton Foundation, including AIDS and poverty. Those existed before the Clintons started their foundation, and they will operate after its closure.
  • Most of these organizations had pass-through grant rates far above the 15% level of the Clinton Foundation during the years that Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State, not to mention the 6.4% pass-through grant rate in 2013.

The Federalist’s Sean Davis exposed the low pass-through rates 18 months ago, and their defenders have yet to catch up to them:

Between 2009 and 2012, the Clinton Foundation raised over $500 million dollars according to a review of IRS documents by The Federalist (2012,2011, 2010, 2009, 2008). A measly 15 percent of that, or $75 million, went towards programmatic grants. More than $25 million went to fund travel expenses. Nearly $110 million went toward employee salaries and benefits. And a whopping $290 million during that period — nearly 60 percent of all money raised — was classified merely as “other expenses.” Official IRS forms do not list cigar or dry-cleaning expenses as a specific line item. The Clinton Foundation may well be saving lives, but it seems odd that the costs of so many life-saving activities would be classified by the organization itself as just random, miscellaneous expenses.

In the absence of the Clinton Foundation, those millions of dollars would simply flow to other charities — if indeed that was the purpose of those funds. If the purpose of those funds was to curry favor with the Clintons and influence government actions to benefit themselves, as seems to be the case, then those dollars weren’t really saving lives at all anyway. Based on the financials, the Clinton Foundation took the axiom Charity begins at home literally — which is why the Sunlight Foundation’s Bill Allison called it a “slush fund” for the Clintons, and why Charity Navigator watch-listed the foundation for years as “problematic” and still won’t provide a rating for it.

Hillary’s defenders want to save lives, all right — mainly the political lives of the Clintons.

Palestinians: The “Mountain of Fire” Erupts Against Abbas

August 25, 2016

Palestinians: The “Mountain of Fire” Erupts Against Abbas, Gatestone InstituteKhaled Abu Toameh, August 25, 2016

♦ The Palestinian Authority is now paying the price for harboring, funding and inciting gang members and militiamen who until recently were hailed by many Palestinians as “heroes” and “resistance fighters.”

♦ Hamas’s dream of extending its control to the West Bank now seems more realistic than ever — unless Mahmoud Abbas wakes up and realizes that he made a big mistake by authorizing local and municipal elections.

♦ The blood pouring out in Nablus and other Palestinian towns is proof that Abbas is on his way to losing control over the West Bank, just as he lost Gaza to Hamas in 2007. In an emergency meeting held on August 25 in Nablus, several Palestinian factions and figures reached agreement that it would be impossible to hold the vote under the current circumstances.

Hours after his security officers lynched a detainee, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas urged Palestinian businessmen living abroad to support the Palestinian economy by investing in the Palestinian territories. The Palestinian Authority (PA), he asserted, was “working to provide security and safety to encourage investment.”

According to Abbas, “The Palestinian territories are living in a state of security stability, which we are working to provide for residents and investors alike by enforcing the rule of law and enhancing transparency and accountability.”

It must be nice to create your own reality, especially if your true reality is that of the 81-year-old Abbas.

In his speech before the businessmen, Abbas neglected any reference to the latest wave of “security chaos” in PA-controlled areas in the West Bank, specifically Nablus, the largest Palestinian city.

Five Palestinians, including two PA police officers, were killed in the worst scenes of internecine violence to hit the West Bank in recent years. Abbas was either playing the businessmen for fools or hoping that they share his deaf and blind state.

The violence in Nablus did not come as a surprise to those who have been monitoring the situation in the West Bank in recent months.

In fact, scenes of lawlessness and “security chaos” have become part of the norm in many Palestinian cities, villages and refugee camps — a sign that the PA may be losing control to armed gangs and militias. Palestinians refer to the situation as falatan amni, or “security chaos.” An article published in Gatestone in June referred to the growing instances of anarchy and lawlessness in PA-controlled areas in the West Bank, first and foremost Nablus.

Palestinians refer to Nablus as the “Mountain of Fire” — a reference to the countless armed attacks carried out against Israelis by residents of the city since 1967. Current events in Nablus, however, have shown how easily fire burns the arsonist. The Palestinian Authority is now paying the price for harboring, funding and inciting gang members and militiamen who until recently were hailed by many Palestinians as “heroes” and “resistance fighters.” Unsurprisingly, most of these “outlaws” and “criminals” (as the PA describes them) are affiliated in one way or another with Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah faction.

Nablus, the so-called Mountain of Fire, is now threatening to turn into a volcano that is set to erupt in the face of Abbas and his PA government.

The situation in Nablus the past few days raises serious questions about the ability of the PA to perform basic security measures and rein in armed gangs and militiamen. Moreover, the unprecedented violence has further shattered Palestinian confidence in the PA and its leaders ahead of the local and municipal elections, scheduled to take place on October 8.

Hamas’s dream of extending its control to the West Bank now seems more realistic than ever. Under the current circumstances, Abbas would be offering the West Bank to Hamas on a silver platter — unless he wakes up and realizes that he made a big mistake by authorizing the local and municipal elections.

And the businessmen who met with Abbas? One might guess that they are sophisticated enough to avoid a doomed investment. Nablus will no doubt do the trick: they are likely to go running from the mayhem of the PA-controlled territories.

Things lately began to unravel when on August 18, in the Old City of Nablus, two Palestinian Authority security officers, Shibli bani Shamsiyeh and Mahmoud Taraira, were killed in an armed clash with gunmen.

Hours later, PA policemen shot dead two Palestinian gunmen who were allegedly involved in the killing of the officers. The two were identified as Khaled Al-Aghbar and Ali Halawah. The families of the two men accused the PA of carrying out an “extrajudicial” killing, and claimed their sons were captured alive and only afterwards shot dead. The families called for an independent commission of inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the killing of their sons. Palestinian human rights organizations have also joined the call for an inquiry into the killings.

1809On August 18, two Palestinian Authority policemen were killed in an armed clash with gunmen in Nablus (left). In April of this year, a fierce gun battle erupted between Palestinian Authority policemen and members of the Jaradat clan in the refugee camp of Jenin (right). The clash started during an attempt to arrest a clan member.

In June, two other PA security officers, Anan Al-Tabouk and Uday Al-Saifi, were also killed in a shootout with gunmen in Nablus. The PA claimed that “outlaws” were behind the killings and vowed to punish the culprits.

Tensions in Nablus reached their peak on August 23, when scores of PA policemen lynched Ahmed Halawah, a former policeman suspected of leading a notorious gang belonging to Abbas’s Fatah faction. Halawah was beaten to death by PA policemen shortly after he was arrested and taken to the PA-run Jneid Prison in Nablus.

The PA leadership, which has since admitted that Halawah was lynched by its policemen, says it has ordered an inquiry into the case. Its leaders have described the lynching as an “unacceptable mistake.”

The lynching of the detainee sparked widespread protests throughout the West Bank, with many Palestinians calling for an immediate inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the case and demanding that those responsible be brought to trial.

The Palestinian Bar Association issued a statement strongly condemning the lynching of Halawah as a “crime and a human rights violation.” The Association called for holding those responsible, adding, “The regrettable and painful events, including the crime of killing Ahmed Halawah, do not serve the interest of the citizen or homeland and deepens divisions in our society.” It also called on the PA and its security forces to abide by the law and honor the human rights of the Palestinians and their public freedoms.

Alarmed by the widespread condemnations of the lynching of Halawah, some Palestinian Authority officials began issuing direct and veiled threats against Palestinian critics.

Palestinian lawyer Wael Al-Hazam, who called on Abbas to “withdraw” his security forces from Nablus, was visited by unidentified gunmen who sprayed his house with 14 bullets. The attorney and his family members were not hurt in the shooting attack, which was clearly designed to send a warning message to anyone who dared to raise his or her voice against human rights abuses by the PA security forces. And in this instance, the message arrived.

Shortly after the attack on his house, the lawyer issued a statement in which he said, “14 bullets are enough to silence me. I’m a man of the law and I cannot face bullets. My pen and voice are the only weapon I have. I do not possess armed militias to defend myself.” The attack on his house came shortly after PA security officers threatened the lawyer, warning him against appearing on a TV show to discuss the latest wave of violence in his city.

The turmoil in Nablus has prompted many Palestinians to call on Abbas to make a decision to postpone the upcoming municipal election in their city. In an emergency meeting held on August 25 in Nablus, several Palestinian factions and figures reached agreement that it would be impossible to hold the vote under the current circumstances.

Sarhan Dweikat, a senior member of Abbas’s Fatah, said that an election delay was needed, to

“protect the social fabric and preserve our national project, which is facing an existential threat in light of the security chaos and anarchy in Nablus. … Conditions in Nablus do not provide a positive climate for holding elections.”

It is hard to see how Abbas, delusional as he appears to be, would heed the calls to postpone the local and municipal elections. His pathetic attempt to persuade Palestinian businessmen to invest their money in PA-controlled areas at a time when the flames are engulfing his backyard is yet another sign of the man’s refusal — or inability — to see the reality on the ground.

This is the same president who claims that he is seeking to lead his people toward statehood and a better future. Incredibly, Abbas can probably continue to fool world leaders into believing that he and the Palestinian Authority are prepared for statehood. Yet the blood pouring out in Nablus and other Palestinian cities and villages is proof positive that Abbas is on his way to losing control over the West Bank, just as he lost the Gaza Strip to Hamas in 2007. If until now it seemed that Hamas posed the biggest threat to Abbas’s rule over the West Bank, it is now obvious that that is not so. The real threat, as brought home in blood in the West Bank, is coming from Abbas’s homegrown loyalists-turned-rebels.

Terrorist Bilal Kayed, who was in administrative detention and is hospitalized at the Barzilai Hospital after hunger striking, has reached an agreement with Israeli authorities according to which he will be released from administrative detention and will stop his 70-day hunger strike.

Kayed’s lawyers reached an agreement with the state that his administrative detention will not be renewed after six months unless new information emerges which supports his staying in jail.

The agreement will be brought before the High Court on Thursday as part of the petition presented by the terrorist against his administrative detention.

Kayed, 35, a resident of Asira a-Samilia, a village north of Shechem, was arrested during the intifada in 2002 when he was a member of the armed unit of the Democratic front. He was charged with a number of security crimes including attacks and attempted attacks and was sentenced to 14.5 years of jail.

In June the terrorist completed his prison time but was transferred to administrative detention for a half a year and consequently he started a hunger strike.
