a1 Obama and Kahameni -building a toaster

Iran, an already powerful theocratic totalitarian state with extensive hegemonic ambitions, is about to become (if it is not already) a nuclear power. So equipped, it can extend its rule over the Middle East and beyond, bringing the “peace” of submission to Islam. Obama may favor this outcome and in any event appears to be at best indifferent.

Iran is ruled by Ayatollah Khamenei, its supreme political and religious power. He has the ultimate authority to approve or reject any P5+1 agreement, should there be one — which seems increasingly likely due to Obama’s ludicrous efforts to concede every possible matter of substance. Obama wants a foreign policy legacy and needs a “deal;” Iran does not need a “deal.” It has already benefited greatly from sanctions relief. Other nations have also benefited economically to the point that even were the U.S. to try to reimpose sanction such trade would continue and expand. Moreover, it is highly likely that Iran has done all of the necessary technical research on nukes and on delivery devices to the extent that, regardless of whether there is a “deal,” Iran can have deliverable nukes within a few months if not sooner. As I pointed out here, the insanity of the 2013 framework, adhered to except when arguably in America’s favor, led inexorably to this result.

The North Korea – Iran linkage makes the problem worse. Chinese nuclear experts recently revised their estimation of North Korea’s current possession of nukes:.

China’s top nuclear experts have increased their estimates of North Korea’s nuclear weapons production well beyond most previous U.S. figures, suggesting Pyongyang can make enough warheads to threaten regional security for the U.S. and its allies.

The latest Chinese estimates, relayed in a closed-door meeting with U.S. nuclear specialists, showed that North Korea may already have 20 warheads, as well as the capability of producing enough weapons-grade uranium to double its arsenal by next year, according to people briefed on the matter. [Emphasis added.]

Iran and North Korea have a long history of nuclear cooperation. Delivering North Korean technology, materials and nukes to Iran would not be very difficult. I addressed the problem here, herehere and elsewhere.

Consequences of a nuclear Iranian theocracy

The Iranian Shiite theocracy is totalitarian in every sense of the word; it has not moderated under “moderate” President Rouhani. To the contrary, it seems to have worsened. To the extent that credible figures are available, sexually transmitted disease has risen and the birth rate in Iran has fallen, considerably in recent years. Despite sanctions relief, poverty has increased. Where has the money gone? Iran pursues its hegemonic ambitions, most recently to help the Houthi in Yemen, while continuing to provide economic, logistical and weapons support to its other proxy terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood and others. Iran is very likely motivated by its own desire eventually to control the Middle East and beyond.

The recent Iranian hijacking of a cargo ship under “U.S. protection” may well have been an Iranian warning to Saudi Arabia, an American ally and leading opponent of the Iranian proxy war by Houthi in Yemen, that it can and might close the Strait of Hormuz to Saudi oil exports.

Strait-of-Hormuz

Although obligated under treaty to come to the defense of the Marshall Islands-registered cargo ship, the Obama Nation did not. Instead, it simply watched as the Iranian Navy fired shots across her bow and took her to an Iranian port to the North at Bandar Abbas. The ship and her crew remain there. Caroline Glick, in an article titled The Marshall Islands’ cautionary tale pointed out that

The Maersk Tigris is flagged to the Marshall Islands. The South Pacific archipelago gained its independence from the US in 1986 after signing a treaty conceding its right to self-defense in exchange for US protection. According to the treaty, the US has “full authority and responsibility for security and defense of the Marshall Islands.” [Emphasis added.]

Given the US’s formal, binding obligation to the Marshall Islands, the Iranian seizure of the ship was in effect an act of war against America.

. . . .

If the US allows Iran to get away with unlawfully seizing a Marshall Islands flagged ship it is treaty bound to protect, it will reinforce the growing assessment of its Middle Eastern allies that its security guarantees are worthless.

As the Israel Project’s Omri Ceren put it in an email briefing to journalists, “the US would be using security assurances not to shield allies from Iran but to shield Iran from allies.” [Emphasis added.]

What can other nations, with which America has treaties calling upon us to come to their defense, expect from the Obama administration if attacked by Iran? Precious little.

Under credible threat from nuclear attack by Iran and lacking actual (as distinguished from verbal) support from the Obama administration, Middle East Arab nations cannot be expected to resist very effectively, even as they seek to obtain their own nuclear arsenals.

Israel, the “Little Satan?” She would fight fiercely to the end, but might be overcome. Perhaps she will take the initiative and destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities before they become too extensive and better protected, perhaps by missiles provided by Russia. I suggested here that she can and should do so. Here is a link to a far more detailed analyses of what she can and should do, soon.

America, the “Great Satan,” is not immune to an Iranian nuclear attack. As I suggested here, a nuclear armed Iran could launch an EMP attack to drive the U.S. back to the stone age. Such an attack would increase Iran’s hegemonic potentials, and hence ambitions, by foreclosing the possibility of American help to nations with which we have protection treaties. However, even without an EMP attack, Obama would not provide much help. Therefore, I wonder whether — despite all of the continuing Iranian “death to America” bluster — Iran would be foolish enough to do it before Obama leaves office. He does His best to help Iran get nukes and pursue its hegemonic ambitions. Why try to kill a staunch friend like Obama’s America?

The Obama administration — and many voters — view global warming, climate change, climate disruption and whatever new phrases as may be developed as the most severe threat to humanity. An interesting article titled Progressives at the Poker Table compares “Progressive” attitudes toward “the threat of climate warming and that of a nuclear-armed Iran.” Predictably, the Obama Administration and most of the “legitimate news media” are far more concerned about the former than the latter, even though there is little if anything that we can do, even at great expense, about climate change (mostly natural in origin). If so disposed, there is quite a lot that we could do about the far greater, and in any event more immediate, threat from a nuclear Iran. Perhaps it’s simply easier to stage pious shows about costly but ineffective ways to “save the Earth” than to make useful efforts to save humanity from Islamic ravages.

Church of climatology

Conclusions

Andrew Klavan ridicules Obama’s P5+1 “deal” here:

The Congress probably won’t do anything to stop it, so Iran will very likely have nukes and the missiles with which to deliver them soon — if it does not already have them.

Hitler made a “deal” with Prime Minister Chamberlain years ago and returned from Munich to display a piece of paper signed by Hitler. Crowds cheered. Hitler laughed and continued his hegemonic pursuits throughout Europe. Hitler could have been stopped with relative ease long before World War II erupted but wasn’t. The “Peace in our time” meme was too powerful. Then we fought WWII.

Is that how the current mess with Iran will turn out?

WASHINGTON (AP) — The US Navy accompanied four American-flagged ships and a British vessel moving through the Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf on Thursday, and officials said the US will offer that aid to any other nation concerned about interference from Iranian vessels.

US Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, said the four US ships belonged to the Navy’s Military Sealift Command or were contract vessels. Those ships have civilian crews and are used to carry cargo or re-supply US Navy ships.

Air Force Col. Pat Ryder, a spokesman for US Central Command, said that any US-flagged ship can ask to be accompanied by Navy warships through the narrow strait, which includes Iranian territorial waters.

Officials use the word “accompany” rather than escort, because they say the Navy ships are positioned nearby and are ready to respond if needed, but they don’t travel back and forth through the strait alongside each contract or Sealift Command vessel as they would during an escort. Ryder said the US Navy ships don’t intend to go into Iranian territorial waters.

The policy was adopted after Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps naval vessels reportedly fired warning shots near a Marshall Islands-flagged cargo ship earlier this week and have detained it and its crew.

Iran says it intervened with the Maersk Tigris because the Maersk shipping line owes it money awarded in a lawsuit.

Israel’s economy defies common sense

Israel’s economy defies common sense

via Israel’s economy defies common sense.

The long-term viability of Israel and its economy is also reflected by its economic indicators, which refute conventional “wisdom.”

Irrespective of a cynical and gullible “elite” media, independent of diplomatic pressure, political correctness and conventional wisdom, in defiance of the global economic slowdown, in the face of war and terrorism, and despite ill-advised threats of boycott, divestment and sanctions—but, due to principle-driven tenacity, inherent optimism, human capital/brain power, creativity, cutting edge ingenuity and breakthrough, game-changing innovations—Israel’s economy is expanding beyond expectations, reacting constructively to pressures/challenges, and developing unique commercial and security niches in response to local and global needs.

For example, the April 10 issue of Financial Times reported that “Israel’s cyber security technologies claim 10% of the world’s investments, and Israel’s exports exceed $3bn…. Buy Swiss watches from Switzerland and information security from Israel….

Israel built its cyber-related offensive, defensive and snooping functions as a byproduct of its regional conflicts, ‘turning lemons into lemonade’ (Udi Mokady, CEO of CyberArk)….”Leveraging Israel’s cyber knowhow, Lockheed Martin —which joined EMC in fathering Israel’s CyberSPark Industry Initiative – collaborates with Israel’s National Cyber Bureau, Israel’s Technology and Information Administration and the University of Maryland, training Israeli students, reflecting its growing involvement in Israel’s cyber research and development (R & D). PayPal acquired Israel’s anti-virus cyber company, CyActive, for $60mn, its second R & D center in Israel. In 2008, PayPal acquired FraudScience for $169mn.

BottomLine acquired the Israeli cyber company, Intellinx, for $67mn.According to the April 20, 2015 issue of the London Economist Intelligence Unit: “Israel’s high tech sector is in the midst of a boom stronger than anything seen since the late 1990s. [300] Startups raised a record $3.4bn in 2014…. Israel has gained a global reputation as a technology innovation leader in several areas, with several hundred new technology firms emerging annually…. Some 82 Israeli startups were sold last year [for $7bn], mostly to foreign multinationals, while another 17 conducted initial public offerings (IPO)…. Foreign multinationals operate more than 200 R & D centers in Israel…. It is also significant in boosting Israel’s relations with emerging economic powers hungry for innovation, such as India and China….”

Contrary to the misperception of Israel’s supposed isolationContrary to the misperception of Israel’s supposed isolation, Renren (“China’s Facebook”) and Tencent invested $100mn in an Israeli venture capital fund. China’s Internet giant, Alibaba, known for the highest-ever IPO ($25bn in 2014), invested about $50mn in Israel’s JVP, which is currently focusing on cyber technology.

Chinese contractors are increasingly involved in major Israeli infrastructure projects, winning bids for the Mt. Carmel Tunnel, the Acre-Carmiel railroad, the port of Ashdod, the new deep water Port of Haifa, the supply of electric locomotives, etc. PingAn, YongJin and ZTE, Chinese giants in the areas of insurance, financial management and cellular, respectively, invested $25mn in Israel’s Rainbow, which invests in medical equipment.Bloomberg reported on March 30, 2015 that India’s mega-billionaire, Mukesh Ambani “is scouting for startups in Israel and the Silicon Valley….

Morgan Stanley predicts e-commerce sales will surge, in India, tenfold to $100bn by 2020.” India’s information technology giant, InfoSys, acquired Israel’s Panaya for $230mn.Israel’s defense giant, Elbit, represents the rapidly expanding ties between Israel and the emerging markets of India,China and Latin America. According to an April 12, 2015 Bloomberg report: “While US defense spending is in a long term downward trend…demand from those regions helped push up Elibt’s backlog orders to $6.3bn, an 8% jump from 2013…. While the US accounted for 28% of total sales in 2014 ($3bn)—the biggest slice… Elbit’s combined sales in Asia and Latin America in 2014 (35%) surpassed those in the US for the first time.” Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has teamed up with Brazil’s IACIT, establishing a radar maintenance center in Brazil, whose air force is using IAI-made airborne radars.

Israel’s Gilat Satellites won a $285mn bid to establish a regional telecommunications infrastructure in Peru.Long-term confidence in Israel’s economy was demonstrated by Microsoft, which inaugurated its second R & D center in Israel, which is the site of Microsoft’s first R & D center outside the USA.According to Bank of Israel, $1.6bn were invested, by foreign investors, in Israel’s high-tech, traditional industries and real estate during January-February, 2015; $8.3bn were invested during 2014 and $30bn in 2012-2014. Industrial exports (without diamonds) catapulted from $5mn in 1948 to $47bn in 2014.

How attractive are Israel’s high tech companies? During January-March, 2015, eleven Israeli companies raised $1.5bn on Wall Street. Recently, Nielsen Global acquired Israel’s eXelate (digital marketing) for $200mn, in addition to its Nielsen Innovative incubator with nine Israeli startups. Canada’s NorthLeaf Capital acquired 40% of Israeli Ormat’s US subsidiary for $175mn. Blackberry is buying Israel’s WatchDog for $100mn. Avid Technology acquired Israel’s OrAd for $70mn. Apple operates, in Israel, its largest R & D center (700 employees) outside the USA, consisting of three companies: LinX that was just bought for $20mn, Anobit Technologies and PrimeSense. TeraData acquired Israel’s Appoxee for $20mn, and DocuSign purchased Israel’s ARX for $30mn.The long-term viability of Israel and its economy is also reflected by its economic indicators, which refute conventional “wisdom.” For instance, Israel’s growth rate (3%) is similar to the USA and above the OECD average, Canada, Britain and Germany, and Israel’s unemployment is below the OECD average. Israel’s declining debt-to-GDP ratio (67%) is lower than the USA, the Euro Bloc, Japan, France, Canada, Britain and Germany.Judging by Israel’s stellar economic performance, one would hardly guess that Israel experienced a six week war, against Hamas terrorists, in July-August, 2014.Wishing you Shabbat Shalom and a rewarding weekend

Obama’s fatal attraction to Iran

May 2, 2015

Obama’s fatal attraction to Iran – Israel Opinion, Ynetnews.

Op-ed: US president seems to naively believe that if he befriends and develops a relationship with the ‘bad boy’ Iranian regime, he can ‘save’ the Iranians and the world in the process; in practice, he is destroying the future of the free world.

Shoula Romano Horing

It seems that Barack Obama truly believes he is the chosen one who can change the “bad boy” Iranian regime, bring it back into the community of nations, moderate its revolutionary jihadist zeal, and make it the West’s new friend and partner in the Middle East.

The American president believes that by paving the way for Iran to be a threshold nuclear state and a successful regional power, he will be appropriately apologizing and compensating the Iranians for alleged past actions by the West and the US that abused and disrespected them. He believes that Iran is not bad or evil by nature but has behaved badly because it was misunderstood, humiliated, dishonored, isolated, confronted, and threatened militarily and economically by the West.

Like so many other ultra-liberal academics, he believes that Iran is lashing out with terrorism, a nuclear program, and threats of death to America and Israel, because it cries for help, attention, and its rightful place in the world, as befits the heirs of the old Persian Empire.

In pursuit of these goals, President Obama has been unilaterally rewarding and repeatedly conceding to Iranian demands in the nuclear negotiations in exchange for nothing in return. He has backed off from the initial demands that Iran shut down its centrifuges, dismantle its nuclear facilities and heavy water reactors, and from the phased lifting of sanctions depending on compliance.

Just recently, he encouraged John Kerry to be involved in “creative negotiations” to address Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s recent demand that the sanctions be lifted immediately upon the signing of a final deal. Obama has been covering up for and lying about Iran’s negotiating positions by stating that they agreed to the “framework agreement” which they have never done.

He has been keeping secrets about Iran’s dangerous behavior by concealing the fact that he has known for years that Iran’s breakout time to a nuclear bomb is less than three months and not a year as he has just recently insisted. He seems to have turned a blind eye to Iran’s belligerent military activities and its growing influence in Beirut, Damascus, Baghdad, and Yemen’s capital, Sana’a. Finally, he has been willing to publicly undermine the relationship with longtime friends such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt in order to appease Iran.

However, reality shows that the Iranian regime has been evil and will stay evil, despite Obama’s many concessions and appeasement policy.

According to the US State Department, Iran has been and still is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and has been responsible for taking the lives of thousands of civilians in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen and Afghanistan.

Inside Iran, the regime is still responsible for a horrific human rights record against its own people including thousands of cases of arbitrary incarcerations, torture, rape, burnings, and flogging of political prisoners, journalists, and bloggers based on bogus charges as well as thousands of executions without due process.

The ayatollahs’ Iran has never for the last 36 years stopped being an outspoken enemy of the US and its leader’s speeches still indicate that Iran sees itself as being in a holy war with the US and the West. Since 2003, the Iranians have been responsible for killing thousands of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ayatollah Khamenei continues to denounce the US as the Great Satan and continues to chant “Death to America,” as well as making it clear in speeches, tweets and through his advisors that Iran does not intend to normalize relations with the US despite any nuclear deal.

To think otherwise only reinforces the concerns of many rational experts that Obama is detached from reality, obsessive, compulsive, delusional and irrational about present day Iran and its true intentions.

Obama’s irrational fascination with and attraction to jihadist Iran reminds one of that shown by some young women from Western countries who hop on a plane to go to Iraq or Syria to marry Islamic State terrorists. At their core, both are obsessively naïve about the existence of evil. Islamic Evil is real and its presence in the world is undeniable but it seems to be a shockingly enticing thing to Western teenagers and to the ultra-liberal Western academics which includes President Obama.

It is hard to understand what Western women could possibly see in these Islamic terrorists or to understand why they are drawn to them. It is equally as difficult to grasp what inspires Obama to be the one who seeks to pave the way for Iran to have a nuclear bomb, whether it be in 13 years as Obama told NPR in discussing the supposed Framework Agreement or three months after an agreement is signed and sanctions are lifted.

Similar to these women who seem to mistakenly believe that they can reform the “bad boys,” President Obama seems to naively believe that if he befriends and develops a relationship with “bad boy” Iran, he can “save” them and the world in the process.

Iran’s jihadist and brutal regime will never change unless the regime is taken out by its own oppressed people or by the US military as it removed Saddam Hussein. It is an oppressive regime that will use its power to continue to spread death and terror as they have done for years.

Allowing the Iranians to possess a nuclear bomb is the same as giving one to any of Iran’s proxies such as Hezbollah, Hamas and Syria’s Assad. As Assad has used chemicals and biological weapons against his own people and against his enemies, Iran will do the same with the bomb.

Congress must stop Obama from destroying the future of the free world.
