Jewish Home Chairman pushes ‘zero tolerance’ on rocket fire, slams implication that Negev less important to protect than Tel Aviv

Naftali Bennett Flash 90

Jewish Home Chairman and Economics Minister Naftali Bennett blasted Israel’s “weak” policy toward rocket fire from Gaza on Saturday night, in the wake of escalation of the attacks and a near-miss in Be’er Sheva.

“The strategy of ‘we will answer quiet with quiet’ harms Israel’s deterrence and allows Hamas to grow stronger from round to round,” Bennett fired. “Restraint in the face of firing on women and children is not powerful. Restraint in the face of the murder of three children is weak.”

Bennett demanded that defense officials spring into action against the ongoing onslaught of terror.

“From Syria to Wadi Ara – when we see residents of Be’er Sheva to begin running into shelters, they expect a powerful response, and interpret our non-action as concern [over being defeated – ed.],” he said. “A million people living next to shelters is the situation right now, and we cannot continue it.”

“Israel’s residents in the south are not second-class citizens, and we must respond to rocket fire on Be’er Sheva as we would to rocket fire on Tel Aviv,” he continued, adding that Israel “should not wait” for that escalation before responding.

“I do not accept the statement that there is no way to stop the rocket fire,” he affirmed. “The Jewish people has shown a special resilience with every hardship, and the statement should be clear: we will not tolerate missiles on Israeli cities. We have zero tolerance for terrorism. [We have] zero tolerance for incitement from the Palestinian Authority for our blood.”

Bennett vowed to push this deterrence policy through the government.

Bennett’s comments surface just hours after similar statements from Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud), who vowed to push his own plan to crack down on Hamas and launch a new operation in Gaza.

“We need to break away from the population in Gaza,” Katz said. “We need to set boundaries and say goodbye to Gaza until their is peace – no fuel, no electricity, no water, no food.”

“Israel should set a clear goal: to dismantle Hamas of its missile stockpile,” he continued. “We should criminalize the Hamas leadership, which is responsible for abduction and murder [of Israelis].”

Hamas rocket fire on Israel has increased dramatically over the past week, with at least fifteen rockets fired on Israel in a 12-hour period on Saturday alone. Two of the rockets were fired on Be’er Sheva, although none hit populated areas.

Meanwhile, there is no information on a possible ceasefire set to be brokered between Israel and Hamas, via Cairo, as a 48-hour ultimatum to stop the rockets comes to a close.

The United States said Saturday it was “profoundly concerned” over reports that a US citizen detained in Israel was “severely beaten” by police whilst taking part in a violent riot in Jerusalem.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the United States “strongly condemn(s) any excessive use of force,” in the wake of Tariq Khdeir’s case.

“We are calling for a speedy, transparent and credible investigation and full accountability for any excessive use of force,” she added in a statement.

The alleged incident took place in the Arab neighborhood of Shuafat in Jerusalem Friday, on the third day of riots after the murder of an Arab teenager which Palestinians allege was a “revenge” attack by Jewish extremists for the murder of three Israeli teens, despite police saying no motive has been established yet.

Friday’s riots, which spread to Arab towns in the Galilee, took place after the funeral of Mohammed Abu-Khder that morning. Among the dozens of rioters arrested in Jerusalem was Tariq Abu Khder, the 15-year-old cousin of the murdered Palestinian Arab youth, who is also an American citizen and was reportedly “on holiday” at the time.

Speaking to AFP Saturday, his parents said Tariq was arrested in Shuafat after being beaten by police on Thursday.

A video circulated on social media shows what appears to be Israeli border police beating and kicking a handcuffed semi-conscious figure before dragging him away.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri could not confirm it was Tariq in the video, but said the footage was from the arrest of a group of six Arab rioters, of whom Tariq was one.

Samri said police found a sling on Tariq, who attacked police and resisted arrest, while others were stoning police officers and throwing Molotov cocktails at them.

Samri said six police were wounded during that arrest operation.

Abu Khder will appear before a Jerusalem court on Sunday, his parents said.

ublic Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch said Saturday that there would be zero tolerance for people who decided to take the law into their own hands, following violent clashes in Arab Israeli towns in the north and center of the country on Friday and Saturday.

Aharonovitch said police would not allow violent disturbances to go unanswered and promised that justice would be served to “troublemakers.”

He also urged police to act responsibly and with restraint due to the delicate situation since the discovery on Monday of the bodies of three Israeli teenagers who were kidnapped on June 12, and especially the discovery of the body of a Palestinian teenager in a Jerusalem forest two days later in what is increasingly believed to have been a reprisal attack.

A preliminary autopsy finding revealed that Muhammed Abu Khdeir, 16, was still alive when he was set on fire. His funeral on Friday was attended by thousands and preceded and followed violent clashes with security forces in East Jerusalem which later spread to Israeli Arab towns, including Kalanswa, Tira, Taibe and Baqa al-Gharbiya

Aharonovitch was set to meet with police commanders in Taibe and Tira later Saturday.

Earlier Saturday, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said that he expected the Israeli justice system to deal harshly with the Arab Israeli protesters arrested overnight Friday-Saturday following clashes with police.

Liberman said a “clear message” must be sent to “those who enjoy Israeli citizenship but behave like [Palestinian] terrorists.”

“These incidents prove once again that the place of these people is not Israel and until then, their rightful place is in jail,” he wrote in a Facebook message.

Police arrested 31 people in connection with the rioting overnight Friday-Saturday in which hundreds of Arab Israelis burned tires and clashed with security forces in protest of the death of the Palestinian teenager. Police said more arrests were expected Saturday and that reinforcements were called up should additional rioting take place later in the day.

In Kalanswa, east of Netanya and just inside Israel from the pre-1967 West Bank lines, a 20-year-old motorcycle rider was attacked by demonstrators Saturday morning while driving along the road into the town. He was hospitalized in moderate condition at Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba.

The incident followed several attacks on Jewish drivers by masked men on road 5614 into and out of Kalanswa, which was blocked due to burning tires overnight.

The masked men began asking drivers stuck on the road if they were Jewish. Two of the drivers who answered back in Hebrew were dragged from their cars and beaten. One of them managed to get back in his car and drive away while the other escaped on foot. His car was set on fire.

A police officer in uniform was also attacked on the road. He escaped on foot and his vehicle sustained damage.

In the Wadi Ara area in northern Israel on Saturday, several Molotov cocktails were launched at the town of Mei Ami nearby. Police were called to the scene.

The clashes came after a day of violent demonstrations in East Jerusalem on the heels of the funeral of Abu Khdeir whose body was found in a Jerusalem forest on Wednesday in what is believed to have been a revenge killing for the kidnapping and murder of Naftali Fraenkel, Eyal Yifrach and Gil-ad Shaar who were laid to rest Tuesday.

In Shuafat, Abu Khdeir’s home neighborhood of Jerusalem, several men reportedly attempted to cut down an electric pole powering Jerusalem’s light rail with a circular saw, and posted a photo of the act to Facebook, before being chased off by police.

Dozens of people threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at police forces in East Jerusalem, who responded with non-lethal weapons to quell the unrest.

Near the West Bank settlement of Ma’aleh Adumim, some 40 Palestinians also hurled rocks and rolled burning tires at police forces, Channel 10 reported.

The renewed violence Friday night followed several hours of relative calm in the capital after a day of heavy rioting and emotionally charged demonstrations, as Abu Khdeir was laid to rest

Police officials said there would be increased presence across the city throughout Friday and Saturday, with an emphasis on East Jerusalem and areas prone to violence.

Around 35 Palestinians and 13 police officers were lightly wounded during the day’s events, before the renewal of violence Friday night.

Police investigators increasingly believe Abu Khdeir was murdered by Jewish terrorists in revenge for the three Israeli teenagers kidnapped and murdered, but there has not been a definitive declaration to this effect.

Chanting “with our blood and our spirit we shall sacrifice for the martyr,” mourners carried the shrouded body of Abu Khdeir, 16, through Shuafat as flag-waving crowds thronged the narrow streets, before he was buried in a local cemetery.

I hope your death brings victory to Palestine,” Abu Khdeir’s mother, Suha, said as her son was laid to rest. “May God burn the criminals who burned my son. I do not wish for any family to experience the sorrows that have come upon us.”

The teenager’s funeral coincided with the first Friday prayers of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. As it took place, riots broke out in several locations throughout the capital, with hundreds of Arab youths hurling stones and makeshift Molotov cocktails at police officers. Masked protesters hurled rocks at police near the site of the funeral as well. Police blocked all the roads leading from East Jerusalem neighborhood’s to the city’s western half for several hours.

Arab rioting in Jerusalem Flash 90

Clashes broke out Friday night between masked Arabs and security forces in eastern Jerusalem.

The clashes took place in the neighborhoods of Shuafat, Isawiyya, Wadi Joz, Abu-Tor and Umm Tuba. During the clashes in Shuafat, the rioters tried to damage an electricity pole using an electric disc.

The forces are using riot dispersal means to fend off the Arab rioters.

In a separate incident in Ma’aleh Adumim, Palestinian Arabs threw rocks and firebombs towards security forces.

Arabs have been rioting in the Jerusalem area for three days, after the murder of 16-year-old Mohammed Abu-Khder, whose body was found in the Jerusalem Forest on Wednesday morning.

Rumors have circulated that the teen’s murder was an act of Jewish “revenge” over the abduction and murder of three Israeli teens Naftali Frenkel (16), Gilad Sha’ar (16) and Eyal Yifrah (19).

However, several reports indicate the abduction was in fact carried out by Arabs as an “honor killing” or another kind of criminal murder.

There have been conflicting testimonies from the boy’s own parents about an alleged abduction reported the night before the murder, in which his mother said the assailants were Jews, while the father insisted they were Arabs.

On Wednesday and Thursday, rioters threw pipe bombs, firebombs, and rocks at Israeli forces and the press and shouted anti-Semitic chants; three Jerusalem Light Rail stations were burnt down as well.

Rocket fire from Gaza continued on Saturday, with two rockets landing in Israel since midnight Saturday.

The latest exploded shortly after 10:00 am in an open area in the Eshkol region. Earlier, overnight between Friday and Saturday, a rocket slammed into an open area in the Sha’ar Hanegev region.

Some 20 rockets were fired by Gazan terrorists throughout Friday.

The Israel Air Force struck targets in the southern Gaza Strip on Friday evening in retaliation for the Palestinian rocket barrage that pounded the south, Channel 10 reported. There is no word of casualties.

According to the IDF Spokesperson’s Office, IAF aircraft struck three sites near the southern Gaza town of Rafah. Channel 1 reported on Friday that the targets were apparently pieces of equipment used to launch rockets.

Within an hour after the attack, four rockets exploded in the Eshkol regional council. No word of casualties.

Israel will wait an additional 24 hours to allow the Egyptian government to broker a ceasefire which Jerusalem hopes will restore calm along the Gaza frontier, Channel 10 television reported on Friday.

In total, 18 rockets from Gaza struck Israel on Friday.

Israeli commentators reported on Friday that Hamas has communicated to Cairo its desire to end the current round of fighting in the south. According to reports, Hamas has no wish to escalate the situation in the south, which has heated up in recent days as Palestinians in Gaza continue to pound the western Negev communities with rockets and mortars.

Channel 10 is reporting on Friday that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has opted for a restrained Israeli military response against Hamas despite the fact that rockets continue to explode in the south.

The Israeli cabinet is reportedly divided over the appropriate Israeli response to the Palestinian rocket barrage. Hawkish ministers like Naftali Bennett, Avigdor Liberman, and Gilad Erdan want a more aggressive military blow against Hamas, while Tzipi Livni, Yair Lapid, and Yitzhak Aharonovich have urged the prime minister to refrain from ordering a stepped-up assault on Hamas.

Thus far, Netanyahu is siding with the moderates in the cabinet, according to Channel 10.

Hamas official says those who expect Islamist group to stop rocket fire should turn to PA to pay Gaza clerks’ salaries

A rocket and a mortar round hit southern Israel from Gaza early Saturday after terrorists fired 20 projectiles on Friday.

Both struck open ground in the Eshkol region. A soldier was lightly wounded in the mortar fire.

The persistent rocket fire came despite Egyptian efforts to broker a renewed truce between Israel and Hamas in and around Gaza following a flare-up of cross-border violence since the abduction and murder of three Israeli teenagers on June 12.

Former military intelligence chief, Amod Yadlin, now director of the Institute for National Security Studies, said Saturday that Hamas was weary of launching rockets at Beersheba or central Israel, which indicated that Israel has not lost its deterrent power.

“There is no doubt that we are facing another round [of violence] with Hamas. We will take action when Hamas crosses the line and the next round will be significant, and will involve ground and air campaign,” he said.

A Hamas official, who did not give his name to Palestinian news agency Sawa, said overnight Friday-Saturday that “those who expect Hamas to stop the rocket fire [on Israel], should to turn [Palestinian Authority Prime Minister] Rami Hamdallah.”

The official was alluding to the fact that the salaries of 40,000 Hamas clerks in Gaza were still unpaid, which was reportedly a key Hamas demand since agreeing to the unity government deal with the Palestinian Authority.

The salaries issue was a focus of tension between Hamas and Fatah after the reconciliation agreement was signed, and banks in the Gaza Strip were closed for six days after the Hamas worker’s salaries were not transferred.

The Palestinian Authority has reportedly refused to pay the salaries, pointing out that the agreement stipulated that a special committee would be set up to examine the issue and decide whether the employment of all 40,000 would continue.

Hamas’s Al-Aqsa TV reported that the office of Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniyeh would resume operations if the salaries were not paid by next week.

Haniyeh resigned as prime minister in early June, ahead of the swearing in of the Palestinian unity government.

Osama Hamdan, a Hamas official abroad, said Saturday that the Islamist group would not agree to a truce without the removal of the blockade on Gaza.

Before the last of the rocket fire at around 2:00am Saturday morning, the Israeli Air Force carried out a series of air strikes on militant targets in the Gaza Strip. The army said it hit three Hamas targets, but did not give further details. Palestinian officials did not report any casualties in the strikes.

The seemingly limited Israeli response to the continuing rocket salvos appeared to indicate that Jerusalem was waiting to see whether Hamas would curb the rocket-fire as reports proliferated of an impending ceasefire agreement.

While the Israeli government appeared interested in de-escalation, not all of its members seemed to agree that restoring calm was the best course of action.

“The idea that ‘quiet will be answered with quiet’ is a serious mistake,” Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said on a visit to Sderot on Friday, adding that he believed Israel must now strike Hamas hard.

“It cannot be that after the kidnapping and murder of three teenagers and two consecutive weeks of rockets fall, the approach of Israel will be ‘quiet is answered with quiet,’” he said. “There can not be an agreement with Hamas. Ignoring the problem or being afraid to deal with it will lead us to a situation in which thousands of missiles are fired at us, not hundreds.

“We cannot to accept a situation in which Hamas controls the pace of events and dictates when it flares up the region, and all we do is respond,” he added.

Sirens had wailed in Israel’s southern city of Sderot, the Eshkol Region, Sdot Negev and the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council, warning of incoming rocket fire from Gaza, from early in the morning Friday.

On Friday morning, Egyptian and Palestinian sources confirmed to The Times of Israel that a ceasefire was set to be declared between Israel and Hamas, but the exact timing has yet to be set. The truce was mediated by Egyptian intelligence officials, as has been the case in similar negotiations in the past.

According to the sources, the understanding that the Egyptians reached with Israel and Hamas is that “quiet will be met with quiet.”

“Neither side is interested in an escalation,” the sources told The Times of Israel.

The sources also reported that the Egyptians passed messages from Israel to the deputy head of Hamas’s political desk, Moussa Abu Marzouk, based in Cairo. Israeli sources said they were waiting for an answer from Hamas. “The ball is in Hamas’s court,” an official told the Ynet news site.

Commentators in Gaza attributed the escalation in rocket fire over the past 48 hours to the feeling in Hamas that Israel was looking to avoid a fight, and that a cease-fire was impending.

According to the commentators, Hamas is trying to achieve a public relations victory in the eyes of the Gaza public, to be seen as unafraid of an escalation. But, they said, Hamas is itself uninterested in a deterioration into a larger conflict.

Israel on Thursday reportedly issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Hamas in Gaza to halt the incessant fire or face a massive Israeli strike.

Avigdor Liberman Flash 90

Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) released harsh criticism against the government’s response to Hamas on Friday, amid a constant barrage of rocket fire and rumors of peace being brokered through Egypt.

“These quiet messages we send to Hamas offering a ceasefire are a huge mistake,” Liberman said Friday while visiting the city of Sderot. “Answering this [terror] with silence is a serious mistake and we in Yisrael Beytenu reject this approach.”

“How can it be that, after we have three boys kidnapped and murdered, and two consecutive weeks of rocket fire, Israel’s approach is: silence will be met with silence?” he asked. “Even while we visit here, Hamas continues to grow stronger, and produce an eight inch diameter rocket that can reach Tel Aviv and Gush Dan.”

“We must accept the reality that this is a mistake,” he added. “Instead of dealing with the problem, we are rejecting the problem.”

Liberman than laid out a plan, saying “we must first destroy the terrorist infrastructure and stop rocket production today,” noting that rockets now “are capable of reaching Netanya.”

He also proposed a ground assault.

“It is impossible to destroy terrorist infrastructures only from the air,” he dismissed. “Most of these plants for missile production are under schools, clinics, and mosques.”

“We need to get our hands on all those who committed and supported the kidnapping and murder of children,” he continued, calling for the targeting of Hamas leaders.

“That also includes the Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Mashaal, the heads of Hamas; and all those who came out, encouraged and supported [the abduction] – and it does not matter if they sit in Qatar or Gaza,” he stated. “The money comes from Qatar – and Hamas, Khaled Mashaal and Azmi Bishara are sitting in Qatar. Bishara sits there and puts money in operations in Israel.”

Liberman added that he has high hopes for US involvement in the situation.

“I spoke with the chairman of the Subcommittee of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. Congress, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen about it,” he said. “Hamas is a terrorist organization even by American law. One of the [abducted] boys was a US citizen [Naftali Frenkel hy”d; ed.] and I hope that Congress will act against the Qataris.”

“I look forward to seeing that Jewish communities and organizations in the US have their say in this matter,” he added.

Liberman has been particularly vocal about launching another ground assault into Gaza, and even more so since the horrific abduction and murder of yeshiva students Eyal Yifrah (19), Gilad Sha’ar (16), and Naftali Frenkel (16) last month.

Earlier this week, Liberman proposed – and not for the first time – that Israel should “consider” retaking Gaza, noting that a “limited” operation in Judea and Samaria against Hamas could prove ineffective.

“We have to decide whether we are going to explore the alternative of full occupation of the Gaza Strip,” Liberman said. “We saw that a limited operation only strengthens Hamas in the end; the alternative is clear.”

Friday’s remarks surface in the wake of rumors of a ceasefire being negotiated with Hamas through Cairo, although Israel has yet to confirm those rumors.

In the meantime, several top-ranking officials have noted that Hamas’s time during the 48-hour ultimatum to stop the rocket fire is dwindling, and the IDF is preparing for a strike.

SHAPIRO: Obama White House, Media, Hamas Push New Blood Libel

SHAPIRO: Obama White House, Media, Hamas Push New Blood Libel”

A crime reminiscent of their holy matzas that became part of their history of betrayal and murder.”

he world has moved from ignoring kidnapped and murdered Jewish boys directly to blood libels. It wasn’t enough for the world to go silent about the seizure and murders of Eyal Yifrach, 19; Gilad Shaar, 16; and American citizen Naftali Frenkel, 16. It wasn’t enough for the United States to continue sending $400 million worth of funding to their murderers, the Hamas-Palestinian Authority-Islamic Jihad unity government.

Now the Obama administration and the media are determined to establish a moral equivalence between those who murder Jewish boys and the Jews themselves. On Tuesday evening, news outlets across the world screamed that a “revenge killing” had taken place: the body of Muhammad Abu Khdeir, 17, had been found in Jerusalem Forest, abducted and murdered.

The State Department rushed to condemn the killing in terms it never used for the killing of the three Jewish boys: “condemns in the strongest possible terms the despicable and senseless abduction and murder…It is sickening…There are no words to convey adequately our condolences to the Palestinian people.” (By way of contrast, the State Department response to the kidnapping of the three Jewish boys was restricted to “strongly condemns the kidnapping.”)

But the State Department went further, with Secretary of State Kerry explaining, “Those who undertake acts of vengeance only destabilize an already explosive and emotional situation….The world has too often learned the hard way that violence only leads to more violence.”

Only one problem: there is not a single shred of evidence beyond speculation linking Jews to the murder. And the only evidence that has emerged so far suggests that the boy may have been killed by Arabs. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld stated that the boy’s body was burned, and that police are “investigating previous attempts to kidnap members of Abu Khdeir’s family, stemming from a personal dispute.” An ex-police official told Arutz Sheva that the murdered kid was known by police, as was the family: “it’s a problematic family with internal clashes that have been ongoing for many years.” This morning, Arutz Sheva noted that Channel Two in Israel had reported that the boy’s parents had reported the attempted kidnapping of Khdeir’s brother earlier this week – and that the father had told police that Arabs tried to kidnap the son.

Should it turn out that Jews did perform this disgusting atrocity, the State of Israel will find, prosecute, and give the harshest possible penalty to the perpetrators. That in and of itself destroys any attempted moral equivalence between Israel and her enemies, given that the Hamas-unity government itself stands behind the murder of the three Jewish boys, that the Hamas-unity government propagandized in celebration of their kidnappings and deaths, and that Palestinians celebrated their deaths.

But no matter who performed this act, what we are watching right now is a blood libel. Slandering Jews for the murder of children without evidence is blood libel. The world has performed this atrocity in the recent past with Mohammad Al Dura in 2000, when the entire world condemned Israeli troops for the staged, hoax killing of a 12-year-old Palestinian boy. Khdeir, tragically, was murdered – and whomever did it should pay the ultimate penalty. But to this point, nobody has provided any evidence it was “settlers” or “right-wing Jews” or anything of the sort. And that is certainly not stopping Hamas from directly invoking the blood libel – today, a Hamas-affiliated newspaper stated:

The settlers used the body of 17-year-old Muhammad Abu Khdeir, from Shuafat in northern Jerusalem, to carry out their sacred [act of] vengeance by torturing him and burning him to death, in a crime reminiscent of their holy matzas that became part of their history of betrayal and murder – for the culture of violence and blood grew among the Jews to such an extent that it seeped into their sacred rites and prayers.

It should be no surprise to see the Jew-hating Obama administration backing such monstrosities, both by implication and by signing checks.

Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) visited the city of Sderot on Thursday, hours after a barrage of rockets from Gaza hit the city, one of which exploded near a building and caused it damage.

On Thursday morning, a Kassam rocket fired by terrorists in Gaza hit a summer day camp in the city, moments before children were set to arrive.

“At this time when [terrorists] are trying to harm civilians in Sderot, we should follow the rule known as ‘kill those who come to kill you,'” said Ariel, who called for action against Hamas immediately – not after a tragedy occurs.

“We just have to act against the enemy and against terrorism,” he stressed, adding that he will work to strengthen the city of Sderot.

“We’re going to market another 100 housing units in the coming months and continue to strengthen the city in different ways,” said Ariel.

“Unfortunately we are delayed because of a lack of a budget for further protection in Sderot and the area,” he added. “I hope the funds are released soon and we can continue to work and provide protection for the excellent citizens who live in this city and the region.”

Around 100 residents of Sderot protested at the entrance to the city earlier Thursday, in response to the rapidly deteriorating security situation.

Protesters bore signs reading “destroy the Hamas regime in Gaza,” “let the IDF win,” and “kill first the one who comes to kill you,” a precept of the Jewish sages. They called on the government to launch a wide-ranging military mission in Gaza to cease the constant rocket fire.

Four Israeli soldiers were sent to prison this morning after posting facebook protest photos calling to eliminate the terrorists. The four fighters from the Haredi Nahal unit of the Yehuda Battalion of the Kafir Brigade were sent to prison for ten days because they allegedly “violated discipline.” The pictures of the soldiers declare, “Bibi, let us eliminate the terrorists.”

“The military tried to take care of an online protest in the wrong way and decided to hold the wrong soldiers accountable,” Adi Kedar, an attorney from the organization Honenu, stated. “The things that the fighters raised cause no offense. These are the best fighters and exemplary soldiers. We urge the authorities to end the military disciplinary proceedings against them and to return them as soon as possible to operational activities.”

The head of Honenu Shmuel Medad stated in response that “Israel sends her soldiers to the front, but she does not understand or wants to understand the situation so instead they judge them, punish them, and doesn’t back them up.” Medad explained that the reason for this conduct is “in order to appear nice to foreign officials, some of whom are real anti-semites, all at the expense of its soldiers.”
