Despite humbly admitting to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry that he is “not a psychic,” acting Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas told the U.S. diplomat that “during this year and next year there won’t be any type of clashes.”

Abbas gave this astonishing reassurance to Kerry who, along with representatives of other donor nations, had expressed concerns about the ceasefire which ended this summer’s 50 day conflict between the Hamas-led Gaza Strip and Israel.

The concerns were raised in the context of donor aid pledged to rebuild areas of Gaza which suffered serious damage during the conflict.

The pledge made by Abbas was intended to assure the donors that their money would not simply go up in smoke during the next round of fighting triggered by Hamas rockets and terror tunnels into Israel.

“We told them we are responsible for the ceasefire,” Abbas told Arab businessmen at his headquarters in Ramallah, according to the Palestinian Arab Maan news site.

Really? The PA hasn’t even been capable of stopping Gazan violence against PA members, how will they stop Hamas from committing violence towards Israel?

Not only is Abbas promising to stop all violence towards Israel, he’s also promising his careful oversight regarding how and where the billions of dollars of aid money is spent.

“We informed the whole world that the government will take charge of the issue of aid and no one else,” Abbas added, “and it will send them to the correct addresses.”

Next we can expect Abbas to assure the donors that the money spent will be put in the ground and grow new money, which will be tended by tiny green men with radar antennas instead of ears. The donor nations, including the U.S., will dutifully report this back to their nations’ leaders in the hopes of persuading them to provide even more aid money.

Never mind that the Palestinian Authority is even less trustworthy than Hamas when it comes to honesty and financial integrity.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei promised increased support for Palestinian terrorists and urged them to stockpile arms in anticipation of a new war on Israel, according to public comments made Thursday following his meeting with members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror group.

“Fighting the Zionist regime [Israel] is a war of destiny,” Khamenei said after a meeting with PIJ’s secretary general, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.

Khamenei instructed Palestinians to “intensify their fight against the Israeli regime” and vowed that Iran would continue to arm Palestinian terrorists in both the Gaza Strip and West Bank, according to Fars.

All Palestinian terrorists groups—with Iran’s support—should rearm and prepare for another war with Israel, Khamenei said.

“The resistance movements in Palestine should boost their preparedness day by day and reinforce their power resources inside Gaza,” Khamenei was quoted as saying Thursday, less than two months after Israel launched an intense several week war against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.

Khamenei maintained that the most recent war with Israel, in which thousands of terror rockets were dropped on the Jewish people, marked the start of the “divine promise” of destroying the Jewish state.

The supreme leader also discussed the importance of arming terrorists in the West Bank, which is controlled by the more moderate Fatah Party.

Iran said in late August, days after the last war officially ended, that Tehran had stepped up arm shipments to the West Bank.

“The enemy should feel the same worries in the West Bank as it does in Gaza,” Khamenei said on Thursday, adding that Tehran will continue its support for the Palestinian “resistance.”

“The Islamic Republic and the Iranian people are proud of your victory and resistance, and hope that the back-to-back triumphs of resistance groups will continue until final victory,” he was quoted as saying.

PIJ Secretary General Ramazan Abdullah thanked Khamenei for Iran’s ongoing support for terrorism against Israel.

“Definitely, the victory was achieved with the assistance of the Islamic Republic,” Abdullah was quoted as saying by Fars following his meeting with Khamenei in Tehran. “Without Iran’s strategic and efficient help, resistance and victory in Gaza would have been impossible.”

Iran’s “arming” of the Palestinian factions in the West Bank has been “strategic and effective,” according to Abdullah, who also noted that Tehran’s support has “re-energized the Palestinian fighters and raised their spirit,” according to Fars.

Additionally, Iran on Thursday sent a plane of what it claimed is humanitarian aid and food to the Palestinians. The aid was said to be delivered via Egypt, according to Fars.

“The society has dispatched aid packages, including tents, blankets, food, and medical products worth $890,000 to Gaza,” the Iranian Red Crescent announced on Thursday.

As the Obama administration contemplates extending nuclear talks with Iran through the November deadline, sources on Capitol Hill are warning that there is no way to stem Iran’s support for terrorism.

The potential extension of talks through November, which already marked the second deadline for progress in the negotiations, has experts and lawmakers worried that the Obama administration will concede to Tehran’s demands that it be permitted to enrich uranium.

“With the Obama administration poised to extend nuclear talks with Tehran once again, it’s business as usual for the Iranian regime, which continues to brazenly fund and incite terrorism across the Middle East,” said one senior congressional aide who works on foreign policy issues. “Almost a year of negotiations has only served to boost Iran’s economy, embolden its leaders, and buy Iran more time to continue its quest for nuclear weapons.

Since 1990, the United States Government has committed $5 billion in bi-lateral assistance to the Palestinian Authority (PA) who continue to be the largest per capita recipients of international foreign aid.

In 2006, Hamas, a terrorist organization,  participated and won a majority in the Palestinian parliament, and as a result, the Palestinian Authority (PA) formed a coalition government with Hamas.  Mahmoud Abbas claimed the presidency and Ismail Haniya, a member of Hamas, became the prime minister. However, there was fighting between the two factions over a failed deal to share government power, and over 600 Palestinians were killed. As a result, the government coalition split leaving Haniya, (Hamas) in control of the Gaza Strip, and Abbas (PA) the West Bank.

Who is Hamas? They were established in 1987 and their origins begin in Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood. What do they stand for? In 2006, The New York Times reported on the Hamas Charter which includes, but is not limited to the following items,

  • Hamas’ goal is Jihad and the death of Jews.
  • All Muslims are duty bound to commit jihad against Israel
  • Peace is not an option
  • Women must train their children to become Jihad fighters
  • Hamas cares about human right and religious toleration provided all other religions live in the shadow of Islam.

In 2014, the two groups, again, decided to join forces which resulted in the halting of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Because of the creation of this new coalition government between Hamas and the Palestinians,  Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, responded by saying,

“So instead of moving into peace with Israel, he (Abbas) is moving into peace with Hamas. He has to choose. Does he want peace with Hamas or peace with Israel. You can have one but not the other. I hope he chooses peace; so far he hasn’t done so.”

Should the United States continue its financial support of the Palestinian Authority? More importantly, is it in line with the letter of United States law?

In a report for the Congressional Research Service, prepared by Jim Sanotti, Specialist in Middle Eastern affairs, there are three U.S. policies that dictate the reason for the financial support to the Palestinians from the United States:

  • Preventing terrorism against Israel from Hamas and other militant organizations.
  • Fostering stability, prosperity and self-governance in the West Bank that inclines Palestinians- including those in the Hamas controlled Gaza Strip- toward peaceful coexistence with Israel and a “two-state solution.”
  • Meeting humanitarian needs

Additionally, the Congressional Research Service states there are restrictions on the United States offering aid to Palestinians, which includes, but it not limited to the following:

  • No aid is permitted for Hamas or Hamas controlled entities.
  • No aid is permitted for a power-sharing PA government that includes Hamas as a member or that results from an agreement over which Hamas exercises “undue influence” unless they have accepted the following 2 principles.  1. recognition of the “Jewish state of Israel’s right to exist” and 2. acceptance of previous Israeli-Palestinian agreements.

The United States has identified Hamas as a “Designated Foreign Terrorist Organization” in October of 1997.  At the website for the U.S. Department of State, there is a list of the current foreign organizations that have been classified as “terrorists.”  In order for the State Department to classify a group as terrorist, they must meet the Legal Criteria for Designation:

  • It must be a foreign organization
  • It must engage in terrorist activity or retain the capability and intent to engage in terrorist activity or terrorism.
  • The organization’s terrorist activity must threaten the security of U.S. nationals or the national security of the United States.

Congress and members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee have raised concerns about continued U.S. financial support to the Palestinian Authority.  However, even with the restrictions and definitions required by the rule of law, President Obama has stated that he will continue offering U.S. financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority, even though they have formed a coalition government with Hamas, which clearly is in direct conflict with the rule of law. Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee made the following statements:

“The administration is not demanding that [Abbas] return to the negotiation table with Israel without preconditions nor that he stops his unilateral statehood scheme at the U.N.”

“If the PA refuses to go back to the negotiation table with Israel and will not recognize a two state solution, why does the United States continue to offer financial aid to the Palestinians/Hamas?”

“The administration also says we need to help rebuild the Palestinian economy at a time when our economy is facing serious challenges and Americans are suffering.”

How much does the United States currently give in financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority?  In 2014, the United States offered approximately $440 million in assistance to the Palestinians and an additional $200 million annually through the U.N Relief and Works Agency, (UNRWA). Congress has raised concerns in regards to the UNRWA noting that funds might be used to support terrorists. UNRWA claims it screens staff and contractors every 6 months for terrorist ties to Al Qaeda and the Taliban, however, their screening does not include Hamas, Hezbollah or other terrorist groups in the area.

Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netenyahu spoke out in a speech made to the UN in 2014,

“Last week, many of the countries represented here rightly applauded President Obama for leading the effort to confront ISIS. And yet weeks before, some of these same countries, the same countries that now support confronting ISIS, opposed Israel for confronting Hamas. They evidently don‚Äôt understand that ISIS and Hamas are branches of the same poisonous tree.”

”…… they all share a fanatic ideology. They all seek to create ever-expanding enclaves of militant Islam where there is no freedom and no tolerance—Where women are treated as chattel, Christians are decimated, and minorities are subjugated, sometimes given the stark choice: convert or die. For them, anyone can be an infidel, including fellow Muslims.”

Meanwhile, the Obama administration is deep in negotiations with Iran and their president, Haassan Rouhani,  in assisting in the fight with ISIS. However, what will we need to concede in order to obtain their support, and do we really want to make a deal with the devil?  Iran is a supporter of terrorism and is currently helping Syria’s Assad in the slaughter of rebels, gays, and Christians and has also threatened to wipe Israel and Jews off the map.  Are these really the people we want to climb into bed beside?

President Obama wants to loosen sanctions against Iran in exchange for their promise not to develop Nuclear weapons. A November 24 deadline is looming for Iran and the P5+1 group (U.S. , France, China, Britain, Russia and Germany) to discuss whether Iran will be allowed to continue to enrich uranium in defiance of U.N Security Council resolutions. President Rouhani has said that Iran will not “surrender” on the question of enrichment. In response to Obama, over 30 Republican senators sent a letter to John Kerry, Secretary of State saying,

“We have learned that the United States and its P5+1 negotiating partners may now be offering troubling nuclear concessions to Iran in the hopes of rapidly concluding negotiations for a ‘deal.’ Given that a nuclear Iran poses the greatest long-term threat to the security of the United States, Israel and other allies, we are gravely concerned about the possibility of any new agreement that, in return for further relief of U.S. led international sanctions, would allow Iran to produce explosive nuclear material.”

In August of this year, Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani said,

Iran supports the brave resistance of great and patient Palestinians and Gazan people.” Muslims in Gaza stood firm in the face of blood thirsty Zionists’ bombs and missiles and emerged victorious. Iran always stands by Palestine, Iraq and Syria. The Iranian nation will take the next steps with more power. The world knows that threats and sanctions against this great nation will have no effect.”

In his speech to the UN, Netanyahu further said,

“To defeat ISIS and leave Iran as a threshold nuclear power is to win the battle and lose the war.”

President Obama could learn something from him!!

Last week, Hamas Political Bureau member Mahmoud Al-Zahar stated that Hamas wants to build an Islamic state in all of Palestine, meaning it would replace Israel:

“[Some] have said Hamas wants to create an Islamic emirate in Gaza. We won’t do that, but we will build an Islamic state in Palestine, all of Palestine.” [Al-Ayyam, Oct. 1, 2014]

Al-Zahar further said that if Hamas had a military foothold in the West Bank as it does in the Gaza Strip, it would be able to destroy Israel. He alluded to a possible future war of destruction against Israel by citing a Sura from the Quran about “the final promise,” which speaks of destroying “the enemies” and “what they had taken over with [total] destruction” [Sura 17:7]:

“Al-Zahar said that if his movement [Hamas] were to ‘transfer what it has or just a small part of it to the West Bank, we would be able to settle the battle of the final promise with a speed that no one can imagine.'”

His expression “the final promise” is taken from Sura 17:7 of the Quran: “Then when the final promise came, [We sent your enemies]… to enter the temple in Jerusalem, as they entered it the first time, and to destroy what they had taken over with [total] destruction.'” (trans. Sahih International) By alluding to this passage in the context of Israel, Hamas is promising a future war of destruction against Israel.

A recent Palestinian poll shows that Hamas indeed has a strong base of support in the West Bank. Last week, the Palestinian Center for Policy and Research found that were elections to be held now between Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Haniyeh would win with 55% support compared to 38% for Abbas. Interestingly, Haniyeh would win with only 50% – 47% in Gaza but on the West Bank Hamas’ Haniyeh is even stronger winning 57% to 33% over Abbas:

“If new presidential elections are held today and only two were nominated, Ismail Haniyeh [of Hamas] and Mahmoud Abbas, the former [Haniyeh] would win a majority of 55% (compared to 61% a month ago) and the latter 38% (compared to 32% a month ago). Votes for Abbas and Haniyeh are close in the Gaza Strip with the former receiving 47% and the latter 50%. The following is a longer excerpt of the report on Al-Zahar’s statements about using the Wset Bank to destroy Israel and establishing an Islamic state in place of Israel:

We won’t do that, but we will build an Islamic state in Palestine, all of Palestine.’ Al-Zahar said that if his movement were to ‘transfer what it has or just a small part of it to the West Bank, we would be able to settle the battle of the final promise (an allusion to Sura 17:7 of the Quran) with a speed that no one can imagine.’
He continued by saying: ‘We know exactly how to liberate the land of Palestine, and we know how to hit every inch of Palestine with our hands, brains, and money.’ Al-Zahar promised ‘to protect the resistance project, including all its military, police, security and civilian wings.’
On the [issue of the] PA and the transfer of control of the Gaza Strip to the unity government, he said: ‘They relinquished these positions, but we look out for our citizens and our homeland. In no way whatsoever will we allow anyone to harm the resistance project or the dignity of any citizen.'”

The European Union and several countries have decided to no longer participate in UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions that single out Israel as a violator of civil rights. The decision has many Islamic countries up in arms.

Agenda Item 7 of the UNHRC is entitled, “The Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.”

Though this might imply that the many civil rights violations by the Palestinian Authority might be the topic of discussion, in fact it is Israel that is under the gun. Representative after representative typically takes the floor to condemn Israel’s activities, even though it is the only true democracy in the region, and despite its legal system and media that constantly ensure the preservation of civil rights for all.

Pakistan, speaking for the Islamic Group at the UNHRC, expressed “deep disappointment that certain member states of the Western European and Others Group had ceased their participation under agenda item 7, which [is] particularly disturbing in the light of the latest Israeli behavior.”

Other Arab countries reacted similarly. The United Arab Emirates, speaking for the Arab Group, expressed “extreme discontent about the European Union’s decision to boycott this agenda item.”

Iran, for the Non-Aligned Movement, was “deeply disappointed by the decision of certain states to cease their participation in this agenda item.”

Saudi Arabia said it saw that an increasing number of countries were insisting on boycotting agenda item 7, which was “proof of double standards concerning Israel.” It declared that “Item 7 [is] a fundamental agenda item of the Council which would stand until Israeli occupation and impunity ended.”

“Non-participation speaks loudest against bigotry”

Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of the UN Watch observer organization, took the floor at the most recent session and summed up as follows: “Today is an important day for justice at the United Nations… Today we meet under Agenda Item 7, which singles out one nation, Israel, for differential and discriminatory treatment.”

“Let us recall that in 1968, a similar form of discrimination took place in Tehran, at a UN conference celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. René Cassin, author of that Declaration, was present at that event. When he saw that one nation was being singled out, he left early in protest,” said Neuer.

“Because sometimes,” Neuer continued, “non-participation speaks loudest. Sometimes, it is the only remedy that can deny the legitimacy of a bigotry which cannot otherwise be challenged or overcome.”

Neuer noted with satisfaction that the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and many other liberal democracies did not take the floor in the debate. “The free and democratic world, echoing the appeal of René Cassin, has spoken for justice.”

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declared that negotiating with Hamas means nothing except how to commit suicide, and Hamas proved his point this morning with another “cease-fire” rocket explosion that was heard by Gaza Belt residents but denied by the IDF.

He said in an interview to be aired Sunday by CNN, “As long as Hamas remains committed to our destruction, what’s there to negotiate with? The method of my suicide or what?”

The Jewish Press reported here earlier this morning that a rocket was launched but did not land in Israel, prompting the IDF to declare it was a “false alarm” and leading the public to think that there was no rocket launch. IDF spokesmen insisted there was no rocket fire, but residents in the Gaza Belt reported they heard an explosion.

The military’s definition of a “false alarm” is a bit fuzzy.

Spokesman told The Jewish Press Sunday, “The term means that an alarm was activated, though without any launch from Gaza. It is important for me to emphasize that each incident is a case of its own and any more information about a ‘false alarm’ is not connected to the use of the term itself.”
In clearer language, “false alarm” means there was no rocket launch – unless there was a rocket launch.
Nearly half a dozen rockets have been launched since the end of the recent cease-fire, and all of them fell in Gaza or in the sea. Several times, the IDF confirmed the launch along with stating that the Color Red siren was a”false alarm.” It appears the IDF spokesmen’s response depends on the political atmosphere.
The last cease-fire may or may remain the last one in a war that was escalated in 2005, immediately after the Sharon government expelled all Jews and withdrew all IDF personnel from to ensure safety for southern Israel.

In return, Hamas placed all of Israel within range of missile attacks until the temporary “cease-fire” two months ago that was to be followed by negotiations for a long-term halt in violence.

No one, except for perhaps Catherine Ashton and John Kerry, believes that will ever happen. Israel’s demand that Hamas dis arm makes great headlines for the vast majority of Israeli who are fed up with Hamas’ countless cease-fires that have proven to be nothing more than an opportunity for its terrorists to prepare to attack deeper into Israel in the next round.

Whether Hamas is testing rockets or simply is trying to prove its point that it can attack Israel if it wants, Sunday morning’s launch is a reminder that the cease-fire will last only as Hamas does not see any political, diplomatic or military gain in attacking again and suffering a devastating response from the IDF.

A stronger but less vocal reminder is Hamas’ continued attempts to smuggle by sea material for manufacturing weapons.

The Israeli Navy has foiled several maritime smuggling attempts in August, according to a Navy commander quoted by The Jerusalem Post Sunday. He told the newspaper, “We continue to see attempts to smuggle weapons or material to build them. The sea is a very convenient platform for smuggling. The terrorists still have one big smuggling tunnel, and it’s called the Mediterranean.”

An IDF Intelligence Unit Lieutenant Colonel told the Times of Israel, “Hamas will not relinquish its military capabilities or its military wing. The demand that it subordinate its military wing to the PA is unrealizable. For now, the talk of ‘one weapon,’ or ‘one authority’ is just talk.”

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Friday used his annual message to Hajj pilgrims heading to Mecca to insult Israel and call for its “annihilation.”

The speech comes ahead of Eid al-Adha on Friday, the Muslim holiday celebrating Abraham’s “sacrifice of Ishmael” in an appropriation of the original Torah story, and like his speech for Eid al-Fitr in July was replete with unfounded barbs hurled against the Jewish state.

“The conspiring enemy is aiming to stoke the fire of a civil strife among Muslims, to misdirect the motivation for resistance and jihad and to secure the Zionist regime and the servants of Arrogance (America – ed.) – who are the real enemies,” said Khamenei referencing the bloody conflicts rocking the Muslim world.

Calling for Muslim unity against Israel, the same Friday that Arab MK Ibrahim Sarsour (Ra’am-Ta’al) called for the establishment of the “United Islamic States” and bashed Israel as being “crueler than ISIS (Islamic State).”

Khamenei likewise accused Israel of having “no limit or boundaries regarding viciousness, cruelty, and trampling underfoot all human standards and ethnics. Crimes, genocide, mass destruction, the killing of children, women and the homeless…they take pride in.”

The statement is ironic given Iran’s horrific human rights history; just this Monday it was reported that an Iranian psychologist was executed for “heresy” after eight years in prison, and on Wednesday Iran was to execute a woman who defended herself from rape.

Khamenei continued “contrary to the idiotic dreams of power and stability for this regime that the filthy officials of the Zionist regime dream, day-by-day this regime has moved closer to implosion and annihilation.”

In response, Khamenei called for the Islamic Jihad and Hamas terrorist groups in Gaza to “reinvigorate their endeavor, determination and resolve…Muslim nations should require their governments to lend real and serious support to Palestine.”

Iran supplied Hamas with rockets used in its recent terror war on Israel, and is continuing to develop its nuclear program even while engaged in nuclear talks with world powers.

Hamas spokesperson Mushir Al-Masri said on Thursday night that his terrorist organization, despite returning to truce talks with Israel in Cairo in the last week of October, still remains fully committed to armed conflict.

“The ‘resistance’ is the basis for the clash with Israel. Only through the ‘resistance’ can victory and liberation (i.e. the occupation of Israel by Hamas – ed.) be accomplished,” Al-Masri told the Hamas journal Al-Risala in Gaza, reports Walla!.

The spokesperson continued by saying “there is no doubt that Gaza succeeded in achieving victory by the nation standing firm and the courage of the ‘resistance,’ which surprised the enemy on land, sea and air.”

Al-Masri concluded with a troubling pronouncement, saying “the enemy did not succeed in stopping the rocket fire, and also didn’t succeed in destroying the military tunnels.”

The latter reference to tunnels, if true, would seem to confirm concerns that while the IDF destroyed all of the terror tunnels leading into Israel that it found, which numbered over 30, others may remain hidden and unknown.

The statement also may refer to numerous reports indicating that Hamas’s “military wing,” the Al-Qassam Brigades, as well as the Islamic Jihad terror group, have already restarted construction on the terror tunnels. In fact, video evidence shows that the renewed digging of the tunnels started even minutes after the ceasefire on November 26.

Despite the pledge to continue armed conflict and the lingering threat of tunnel attacks targeting Israeli civilians, Israel confirmed it has allowed 500 residents of Gaza to pray on the Temple Mount – something Jews are forbidden from doing by the Jordanian Waqf (Islamic trust) – this Saturday for Eid al-Adha, which celebrates Abraham’s “sacrifice of Ishmael” in an appropriation of the original Torah story.

Al-Masri also hinted strongly several days ago that his group may be on the verge of sealing a terrorist swap deal with Israel, which would see hundreds of jailed terrorists released in exchange for the bodies of fallen soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul hy”d.

The United States on Friday condemned Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s speech at the United Nations, in which he accused Israel of planning another “Nakba” and committing acts of genocide in Gaza during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge.

“President Abbas’ speech today included offensive characterizations that were deeply disappointing and which we reject,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. “Such provocative statements are counterproductive and undermine efforts to create a positive atmosphere and restore trust between the parties.”

Senior officials in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office denounced the allegations as “a speech of incitement filled with lies.”

In the speech, Abbas called the previous round of fighting against Gaza “a series of absolute war crimes carried out before the eyes and ears of the entire world, moment by moment.” The devastation unleashed, he asserted, “is unmatched in modern times.”

He further stated that “the Israeli government undermined chances for peace throughout the months of negotiations,” referring to the failed 9-month-long peace process undertaken before the latest violence in Gaza. “Israel has consistently sought to fragment our land and our unity.”

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman also commented on Abbas’ speech Friday saying that, “Abu Mazen’s (Abbas’) words at the UN General Assembly sharply clarify again that Abu Mazen doesn’t want and can’t be a logical partner for a political settlement. Abbas isn’t a member of joint government with Hamas for no reason.”

The Foreign Minister said that “Abbas complements Hamas in his political terrorism and storytelling against Israel. So long as he’s chairman of the Palestinian Authority, Abbas will lead to the continuation of the conflict. He has proved time and again that he is not a man of peace, but rather Arafat’s heir.”

In the same speech, Abbas did not offer his own deadline for an Israeli withdrawal, as some had predicted, nor did he say anything about joining the International Criminal Court as his aides have repeatedly said he is prepared to do.

And while he signaled he would seek accountability for alleged war crimes by Israel against Palestinians during this summer’s 50-day war in Gaza, he made no mention of taking the case to the International Criminal Court.

“We will not forget and we will not forgive, and we will not allow war criminals to escape punishment,” Abbas said in his 30-minute address.

The devastating war has weakened Abbas domestically, with his Hamas rivals enjoying a surge of popularity among Palestinians for fighting Israel.

He is under pressure at home to come up with a new political strategy after his repeated but failed attempts to establish a Palestinian state through US-mediated negotiations with Israel.

Before Friday’s speech, his aides had said he would launch a new bid for a UN Security Council resolution to set a three-year timetable for Israel to pull out of Palestinian lands captured in the 1967 war. They added that a UN rejection of the Palestinian request would prompt Abbas to seek membership in international agencies, including the International Criminal Court.

That would open the door to war crimes charges against Israel for its military actions in Gaza and Jewish settlement construction on West Bank land the Palestinians want for a future state.

n light of the renewed cooperation between Hamas and Fatah, which was announced two days ago in Cairo, Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, gave a harsh speech at the UN General Assembly yesterday (Friday), during which he accused Israel of war crimes during operation “Protective Edge”. According to him, “Israel is preparing for a new Nakba and the world must stop it”. The Israeli representative was absent during the speech.

Abbas began his speech with strong criticism of the deaths of Palestinian citizens during the operation in Gaza. “We will not forget and we will not forgive, and we will not allow war criminals to escape punishment”, emphasized the Palestinian President. “The Palestinian people hold steadfast to their legitimate right to defend themselves against the Israeli war machine and to their legitimate right to resist this colonial, racist Israeli occupation”.

Abbas, who very well understands the effectiveness of boycotts against Israel, supported those defending it. “Amidst a torrent of massacres and storms of massive destruction, we witnessed the peoples of the world gathering in huge demonstrations declaring their condemnation of Israel’s aggression”, said Abbas. “There was also an increase in boycotts meant to bring peace”.

From the battles in Gaza, Abbas moved on to the diplomatic standstill, pointing a blaming finger towards Israel, claiming it is undermining the chance for peace. “Settlement construction, home demolitions, killing and forced displacement in the West Bank continued unabated, as well as the unjust blockade on the Gaza Strip”, he attacked.

According to him, “Israel reached an agreement with the Americans regarding the release of a group of Palestinian prisoners in the occupation’s jails – while we continue to insist on releasing all of them. Israel did not hesitate to reveal its true positions, it rejects the Palestinian state and refuses to find a just solution to the plight of the Palestine refugees”.

“Israel offers us isolated ghettos, without borders and without sovereignty, which will be under the subjugation of the racist settlers and army of occupation. At worst, Israel proposes Apartheid”, Abbas added and later claimed that “it reminds me of other scenes from history”.

Abbas also demanded that Israel and the international community set a deadline for any future solution. “There is no meaning nor benefit in negotiations not aimed to end the Israeli occupation and form a Palestinian State, with East Jerusalem as its capital, over the entire territory occupied in 1967. There is no value in negotiations without a specific time frame for the implementation of these objectives”.
