With zero prospect of his policy succeeding, Obama insists on Israeli inaction, even as Iran races to close the window of opportunity for any successful attack. Not since its birth six decades ago has Israel been so cast adrift by its closest ally.

WASHINGTON – There are two positions one can take regarding the Iranian nuclear program: (a) it doesn’t matter, we can deter them, or (b) it does matter, we must stop them.

In my view, the first position – that we can contain Iran as we did the Soviet Union – is totally wrong, a product of wishful thinking and misread history. But at least it’s internally coherent.

What is incoherent is President Obama’s position. He declares the Iranian program intolerable – “I do not have a policy of containment; I have a policy to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon” – yet stands by as Iran rapidly approaches nuclearization.

A policy so incoherent, so knowingly and obviously contradictory, is a declaration of weakness and passivity. And this, as Anthony Cordesman, James Phillips and others have argued, can increase the chance of war. It creates, writes Cordesman, “the same conditions that helped trigger World War II – years of negotiations and threats, where the threats failed to be taken seriously until war became all too real.”

This has precipitated the current US-Israeli crisis, sharpened by the president’s rebuff of the Israeli prime minister’s request for a meeting during his upcoming US visit. Ominous new developments; no Obama response. Alarm bells going off everywhere; Obama plays deaf.

The old arguments, old excuses, old pretensions have become ridiculous:

(1) Sanctions.

The director of national intelligence testified to Congress at the beginning of the year that they had zero effect in slowing the nuclear program. Now the International Atomic Energy Agency reports (August 30) that the Iranian nuclear program, far from slowing, is actually accelerating. Iran has doubled the number of high-speed centrifuges at Fordow, the facility outside Qom built into a mountain to make it impregnable to air attack.

This week, the IAEA reported Iranian advances in calculating the explosive power of an atomic warhead. It noted once again Iran’s refusal to allow inspection of its weapons testing facility at Parchin, and cited satellite evidence of Iranian attempts to clean up and hide what’s gone on there.

The administration’s ritual response is that it has imposed the toughest sanctions ever. So what? They’re a means, not an end. And they’ve had no effect on the nuclear program.

(2) Negotiations.

The latest, supposedly last-ditch round of talks in Istanbul, Baghdad, then Moscow has completely collapsed. The West even conceded to Iran the right to enrich – shattering a decade-long consensus and six Security Council resolutions demanding its cessation.

Iran’s response? Contemptuous rejection.

Why not? The mullahs have strung Obama along for more than three years and still see no credible threat emanating from the one country that could disarm them.

(3) Diplomatic isolation.

The administration boasts that Iran is becoming increasingly isolated. Really? Just two weeks ago, 120 nations showed up in Tehran for a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement – against US entreaties not to attend. Even the UN secretary-general attended – after the administration implored him not to.

Which shows you what American entreaties are worth today. And the farcical nature of Iran’s alleged isolation.

The Obama policy is in shambles. Which is why Cordesman argues that the only way to prevent a nuclear Iran without war is to establish a credible military threat to make Iran recalculate and reconsider. That means US red lines: deadlines beyond which Washington will not allow itself to be strung, as well as benchmark actions that would trigger a response, such as the further hardening of Iran’s nuclear facilities to the point of invulnerability and, therefore, irreversibility.

Which made all the more shocking Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s dismissal last Sunday of the very notion of any US red lines. No deadlines. No brightline action beyond which Iran must not go. The sleeping giant continues to slumber. And to wait. As the administration likes to put it, “for Iran to live up to its international obligations.”

This is beyond feckless. The Obama policy is a double game: a rhetorical commitment to stopping Iran, yet real-life actions that everyone understands will allow Iran to go nuclear.

Yet at the same time that it does nothing, the administration warns Israel sternly, repeatedly, publicly, even threateningly not to strike the Iranian nuclear program. With zero prospect of his policy succeeding, Obama insists on Israeli inaction, even as Iran races to close the window of opportunity for any successful attack.

Not since its birth six decades ago has Israel been so cast adrift by its closest ally.

Israel’s nuclear chief: Jerusalem can defend itself

Speaking at IAEA meeting, Shaul Chorev says Israel is not indifferent to “direct and blunt” Iranian threats to its existence.”

Israel is not indifferent to “direct and blunt” Iranian threats to its existence and is “competent to deter its enemies and to defend itself,” Shaul Chorev, head of the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission, said Wednesday.

Chorev’s comments came at the annual meeting of the 155-nation International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, where he said that Iran’s sizable enrichment of uranium and construction of a heavy water research reactor for the military production of plutonium, as well as its design and testing of components of nuclear weapons and its activities to integrate a payload onto the Shahab 3 missile, left no doubt as to the goal of Tehran’s efforts.

“Iran’s nuclear activities are conducted in violation of all relevant UN Security Council and IAEA Board of Governors resolutions, and are carried out with impunity, as measures of the international community have no effect on Iran’s nuclear program,” he said.

Chorev added that Iranian fingerprints were all over Syria, where “the Syrian regime fights for its survival at a cost of tens of thousands of lives of innocent Syrian civilians.”

He also argued against Arab calls for a nuclear-free Middle East, saying the region had long been characterized by the pursuit of weapons of mass destruction by despotic regimes in violation of every legally binding international commitment and obligation.

“The concept of a region free of WMD that has never been put to test even in the most peaceful regions of the world is certainly much less applicable to the current volatile and hostile Middle East region,” he said. “Any attempt to reach this goal requires a significant transformation of regional trends and the creation of some elementary pre-conditions.”

Chorev listed three preconditions: First, that such a process be launched only when peaceful relations exist for a reasonable period of time; second, that the call for this zone come from within the region; and third, that it not be imposed from the outside.

Obviously, he said, these conditions do not presently exist.

He alluded to charges leveled against Israel earlier this month by Jordan’s King Abdullah II to the effect that it was blocking Jordanian efforts to build a nuclear reactor for peaceful purposes.

“With regards to Jordan’s civilian nuclear program I wish to emphasize that Israel supports the use of nuclear power by its neighbors, to meet their energy and water needs,” Chorev said. “Israel believes in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the Middle East, as long as states fully honor their international nonproliferation obligations.”

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, meanwhile said in a speech quoted by the AFP news agency from his official website that his country does not “accept the demands of any superpower.”

According to AFP, Khamenei gave the speech to an audience of military personnel Tuesday in the northern part of the country.

Iran, he said, “makes its decisions solely based on the interests of its people and the country, even if all of the world’s powers get angry at its decisions.” Khamenei added that Western media were playing up the degree to which sanctions were impacting on Iran, and urged his listeners not to pay any attention to their reports.

“Drawing a black and dark picture of the country’s situation is the known method of Western and Zionist media aimed at halting the Iranian nation’s path,” he said.

One Israeli official responded by saying that the “unfortunate reality” is that despite the sanctions and strong talk from Israel and the international community, the Iranians have not been convinced that “if they continue they will face an unacceptable price.”

In a related development, Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, said on Wednesday that he and European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton had agreed to defer further nuclear talks until she consulted the six world powers she represents next week.

Jalili said his talks with Ashton late Tuesday night in Istanbul had been constructive.

“We evaluated the common points and what we could do for further cooperation and future meetings,” he told a news conference.

Jalili added that they had agreed to renew contact after Ashton meets the members of the P5+1 next week in New York.

This group, which is negotiating with Iran, is made up of the US, Russia, China, France, Germany and Britain. Three rounds of P5+1 talks with Iran since April have made little progress.

Islamophobic Ad Coming To NYC Subway Stations

Islamophobic Ad Coming To NYC Subway Stations

Jihad Savage Subway Ad

While outrage continues in the Middle Eastover the incendiary film, “The Innocence of Muslims,” a new pro-Israel ad denouncing Jihad as “savage” will soon make its debut in New York City’s subway system. The ad reads, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”

The ads are expected to appear at ten subway stations as early as next week.

The New York Times reports MTA officials initially rejected the American Freedom Defense Initiative’s controverisal ad, but ultimately lost in court after a judge cited First Amendment rights.

Ron Meier of the Anti-Defamation League said in a statement, “We support the court’s conclusion that the ad is a form of protected speech under the First Amendment, yet we still strongly object to both the message and the messenger. We believe these ads are highly offensive and inflammatory. Pro-Israel doesn’t mean anti-Muslim. It is possible to support Israel without engaging in bigoted anti-Muslim and anti-Arab stereotypes.”

In August, the American Freedom Defense Initiative launched a similar ad campaign with an Islamophobic billboard at a Metro-North station, which declared, “19,250 DEADLY ISLAMIC ATTACKS SINCE 9/11/2001. IT’S NOT ISLAMOPHOBIA. IT’S ISLAMOREALISM.”

In response, local politician Paul Feiner suggested the MTA use profits from the ads to combat further discrimination.

Arabs sense weakness

Arabs sense weakness – Israel Opinion, Ynetnews.

Analysis: Lack of serious American threat encourages Muslim rioters

Published: 09.18.12, 13:54 / Israel Opinion

The wave of anti-West riots that is sweeping through the Muslim world will gradually subside, mostly because the regimes in Muslim countries, from Indonesia to Algeria, realize that this wave threatens them more than it does the West.

This is why they have regained their composure and have begun taking measures to curb the riots: Access to western diplomatic missions has been blocked; large forces have been deployed in sensitive areas; and clerics, as well as Islamist politicians are urging the public to respect foreigners.

When the riots erupted after the anti-Islam filmwas posted on YouTube with Arabic subtitles, the regimes in the Muslim countries displayed sympathy and understanding with the rage and violence of the masses, and they refrained from taking any measures to protect the US, British and German embassies. The street sensed that it had the government’s support and went wild.

Now the moderate Islamist leaders, including Egypt’s Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, are taking action because they realize that this wave threatens them as well.

The riots erupted, among other things, due to genuine rage in the Arab world over the movie, which was justifiably viewed as an intentional insult to the prophet Mohammed and an attempt to tarnish Islam’s image. Every Islamic child is taught that the prophet and the Quran are sacred, so any attack on them, such as the Coptic film, stirs among Muslims a sense of an almost existential threat, as well as fear and frustration. All of these feelings were expressed in an outbreak of rage and violence.

Riots in Afghanistan (Photo: AFP) (צילום: AFP)

Another reason is what is referred to as the frustrating “cognitive dissonance” Muslims all over the world have been experiencing for the past 200 years or so. On the one hand they are taught from birth that Islam is a source of greatness and achievements in all fields – as was the case during the religion’s golden age. On the other hand, the frustrating reality is that despite their oil reserves, the Muslims cannot integrate into the modern world and succeed in it. They are having trouble feeding their children when the heretics in the West boast unimaginable achievements in every field. According to Professor Dan Schueftan, all this creates feelings of insecurity, inferiority and sensitivity to any insult to the Arab honor – be it real or fictitious.

The third reason relates to the situation created as a result of the turmoil in the Arab world. Suddenly, the street became a dominant factor that imposes its will on the new Arab regimes, which are cautious not to anger it for fear they will meet a fate similar to, let’s say, Mubarak’s. This is apparent in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Jordan and even in the Palestinian Authority. If in the past the Arab dictatorships imposed their will on the people by way of draconian coercion and enforcement, today, in the aftermath of the revolutions, the Arab street imposes its will on the regimes. The regimes in Egypt, Libya and Yemen went as far as justifying the rage and violence of the masses in response to the anti-Islam film.

Organized and armed terror groups inspired by global jihad and the Salafi movement took advantage of the chaotic situation created by the riots. It happened in Libya last Tuesday, and then in Sinaiand Afghanistan. Over the past two years these groups, which consistently fight the West, the US and the secular Arab regimes have amassed weapons and power mainly because the regimes that once limited their activity are no longer. Now they are threatening the moderate Islamist regimes, which are aware of this threat and have begun to act.

The fifth cause of the Muslim riots is the weak response from the West and the US Administration in particular. The statement from the White House and State Department, which was adopted by German Foreign Minister Westerwelle, condemned the insult to the Muslim religion’s values and also said, in very soft rhetoric, that there is “no justification for this kind of senseless violence.”

Such a statement may be taken seriously in London or Berlin, but in the Muslim world it was interpreted as an admission of guilt by the US, which, from the Muslims’ perspective, legitimizes violence. The lack of a threat allowed the masses to go wild.

Despite the ObamaAdministration’s mistakes, including extremely lax security at the US Consulate in Libya and the appeasing, almost Chamberlain-esque response to the violence, it is not too late to rectify the situation. Experience has shown that the US can still apply effective pressure on the new Arab regimes, including the Islamist ones, which are in need of Washington’s aid. There is already an indication that the White House’s policy is moving in this direction.

Another option is to boost US military presence (in the air and on the ground) near or right above the sensitive zones and have Marines secure the diplomatic missions. Such measures have been proven to have a moderating effect on incited masses.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator on Wednesday reported progress in talks aimed at restarting negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program, calling a meeting with European foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton a day earlier “positive and fruitful.”

Saeed Jalili offered few concrete details about Tuesday’s meeting with Ashton in Istanbul, but said the two had assessed some “common points” reached by technical teams looking into the issue and had discussed “what can be done for a new cooperation.”

“We discussed common points found by the experts and technical teams … so that they may be brought closer together and that a framework for future talks can be drawn,” Jalili said. “We hope (our) talks can help bring the common points closer together.”

Earlier, the EU released a brief statement saying the talks that ended early Wednesday were “useful and constructive” and “an important opportunity to stress once again to Iran the urgent need to make progress.” The EU said Ashton would brief representatives of the US and five other world powers next week in New York about her efforts to restart negotiations that fizzled in June.

“We are awaiting the result of the six powers’ assessment,” Jalili said.

Efforts for a breakthrough on restarting talks over Tehran’s nuclear program have gained new urgency with fear that the failure of negotiations could prompt Israel to make good on a threat to attack Iran’s nuclear installations.

Iran denies it is making nuclear weapons.

On Monday, its nuclear chief, Fereydoun Abbasi, said that “terrorists and saboteurs” might have infiltrated the International Atomic Energy Agency in an effort to derail his nation’s atomic program.

Investigative journalist and author Edwin Black was Wednesday referring all inquiries about reports that Brad Pitt plans to make a movie of his 2001 bestseller “IBM and the Holocaust” to his agents at William Morris. But in a telephone interview with The Times of Israel, Black said his meticulously documented tale of the computer giant’s key role in enabling the Holocaust holds vital lessons for today about the dangers of corporate complicity in genocide.

Specifically, as the Iranian regime speeds toward a nuclear bomb, Black said, corporations complicit with Tehran included Nokia Siemens, “which provided the cellphone tracking codes to the Iranian regime” as it suppressed the Green Revolution in 2009, as well as “the multi-national banks financing the acquisition of nuclear equipment, and the manufacturers providing the technology to produce a nuclear bomb.”

Pitt has reportedly held the film option for the book for some years, and it was in development at HBO. Now, though, it is said to be back with Pitt, for possible development as a feature film.

Black said all of his projects would make good movies because of his insistence on factual integrity. “IBM and the Holocaust,” he said, exposed what had been “the overlooked saga of how an American corporation became a central player in the Holocaust in all six phases.” He listed these as “the identification of the Jews; their exclusion from society; the confiscation of their assets; their ghettoization; their deportation; and even many parts of the extermination of the Jews.”

IBM, he noted, “had a customer site, known as the Hollerith Department, in almost every concentration camp” to sort or process punch cards and track prisoners. IBM also “opened subsidiaries in Europe in cadence with the Nazis.”

Edwin Black (photo credit: Courtesy)

Black’s book details IBM’s strategic alliance with the Nazis starting from 1933, soon after Adolf Hitler came to power, and continuing deep into World War II. “As the Third Reich embarked upon its plan of conquest and genocide, IBM and its subsidiaries helped create enabling technologies, step-by-step,” according to the book’s official website. “IBM technology was used to organize nearly everything in Germany and then Nazi Europe, from the identification of the Jews in censuses, registrations, and ancestral tracing programs to the running of railroads and organizing of concentration camp slave labor.”

Reports in recent days have suggested that Pitt might star in the movie as well as producing it, and it has been reported that various A-list directors and actors are being contacted over possible roles in the production.

Fars News Agency :: Iranian Army Warns Enemy of All-Inclusive, Crushing Response to Aggression

Fars News Agency :: Iranian Army Warns Enemy of All-Inclusive, Crushing Response to Aggression.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Army in a statement on Wednesday warned enemies to avoid threatening Iran, reiterating that any aggression against the country will be reciprocated with a crushing response.

“The Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran … declares that, in obedience to Muslims’ Leader and Commander-in-Chief Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the Army, along with other armed forces, is monitoring all the internal and external moves of the enemies with maximum strength and power and will give an all-around and crushing response to any hard and soft threat of the enemies,” the Army said in a statement on the occasion of the Sacred Defense Week.

September 21 is the start of the Sacred Defense Week in Iran which marks the anniversary of the beginning of Iraq’s imposed war against the country in 1980.

Israel and its close ally the United States accuse Iran of seeking a nuclear weapon, while they have never presented any corroborative document to substantiate their allegations. Both Washington and Tel Aviv possess advanced weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear warheads.

Iran vehemently denies the charges, insisting that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.

Both Israel and the US have recently intensified rhetoric against Iran, saying an attack on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear site is impending.

Iran has, in return, warned that it would target Israel and its worldwide interests in case it comes under attack by the Tel Aviv.

Iran has also warned that it could close the strategic Strait of Hormuz if it became the target of a military attack over its nuclear program.

Strait of Hormuz, the entrance to the strategic Persian Gulf waterway, is a major oil shipping route.

At major UN meeting, Syrian ambassador seeks to turn tables on Damascus accusers by hitting out at Israel, says influential Western states are implicitly condoning Israeli atomic arsenal.

VIENNA – Syria, itself suspected of illicit nuclear activity, accused the West at a major UN meeting on Wednesday of double standards in implicitly condoning an Israeli atomic arsenal and warned of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

The United States said last week Damascus was using the “brutal repression” of its people waging an uprising as an excuse not to address international concerns about its past nuclear work.

UN inspectors have long sought access to a site in Syria’s desert Deir al-Zor region that US intelligence reports say was a nascent, North Korean-designed reactor designed to produce plutonium for nuclear weapons before Israel bombed it in 2007.

The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also been requesting information about three other sites that may have been linked to Deir al-Zor, which Syria says was a conventional military site.

Syrian Ambassador Bassam Al-Sabbagh, in a rare public comment on the issue, insisted that his country was ready to cooperate with the UN agency and he sought to turn the tables on Damascus’s accusers by hitting out at Israel.

Israel is believed to have the Middle East’s only nuclear arsenal, although it refuses to disclose any capability. Like its ally the United States, the Jewish state sees Iran’s nuclear program as the most urgent nuclear proliferation threat.

Clearly referring to Washington and its allies, Al-Sabbagh told the IAEA’s 155-nation annual assembly in Vienna:

“The fact that some influential states … condone Israel’s possession of nuclear capabilities and its failure to subject them to any international control exposes clearly the extent of double standards used by those states.”

He added that this “poses a threat to the region’s security and stability and may even spark a nuclear arms race there.”

Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful, denying Western suspicions that it wants to develop an atom bomb capability. Syria also denies any such ambitions.

Al-Sabbagh said all Arab states had acceded to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) while Israel was still outside the 1970 pact set up to prevent the spread of atomic weaponry.

“This is the main and only obstacle to the creation of a nuclear weapons free zone in Middle East,” he told the IAEA’s General Conference, where many speakers had previously accused Syria of stonewalling the stalled IAEA inquiry into its work.

IAEA chief Yukiya Amano said this year that Syria had asked for understanding of its “delicate situation” in response to requests for Syrian cooperation with his inspectors.

Syrian President Bashar Assad is fighting a 18-month-old revolt in which more than 27,000 people have been killed.

Israel has said it would sign the NPT and renounce nuclear weapons only as part of a broader Middle East peace deal with Arab states and Iran that guaranteed its security.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has wished all his life for a final war between his form of Zionism and Islam, with Christians being used as dupes by the Zionists to advance the Israeli cause. This final battle between the Jewish God Jehovah and the Muslim God Allah is Netanyahu’s Gotterdammerung.

The release of the anti-Muslim film, Innocence of Muslims, has right-wing Jewish fingerprints all over it. The film’s issuance and the failure of YouTube to pull it down in the same manner that a number of anti-Semitic videos have been blocked, is but one of many operations planned by Netanyahu and his sayanim and hasbara intelligence and psychological warfare operatives around the world to: 1) create a crisis to help defeat US President Barack Obama and install Netanyahu’s old Boston Consulting Group friend Mitt Romney in the White House; 2) seek the deaths of American government or civilians abroad to portray Muslims as killers of Americans (the deaths of four US diplomatic personnel in Benghazi, Libya, including US ambassador Christopher Stevens, as a result of protests over the film, was “mission accomplished” for Netanyahu); and 3) play into the fears of right-wing Americans who believe President Obama is a secret Muslim, a maneuver that saw Romney call Obama’s reaction to the deaths of the four US embassy personnel in Benghazi weak.

Netanyahu, who has been very vocal in his criticism of Obama and some in the Western media for not supporting an immediate Israeli attack on Iran, has denied he is trying to interfere in the US presidential election by supporting Romney over Obama.

Although the Israeli-influenced US corporate media worked overtime trying to distance from early reports that the anti-Muslim film was funded by 100 Jewish donors and involved an Israeli national named Sam Bacile, the attempt to place blame on Egyptian-American Christian Copts began to fall flat in the face of continued evidence of Israeli involvement in the production of the video, which even involved Southern California’s heterosexual and homosexual pornographic movie industry, an industry dominated by American and Israeli Jews.

There has clearly been attempt by Netanyahu and his propagandists to transform Obama into a Jimmy Carter, a president beset by besieged American embassies, who is unable to handle crises in Muslim countries. Carter was defeated in the 1980 election by Ronald Reagan because of a concerted effort to paint him as weak during the 444-day occupation by [Iranian] revolutionary students of the US embassy in Tehran.

The plot to embarrass Obama was revealed in a secretly taped video of Romney speaking to a group of wealthy and mainly Jewish Florida donors earlier this year. Romney’s comments provide ironclad proof of Netanyahu’s political connections to the Romney campaign. Romney told donors, “I have a very good team of extraordinarily experienced, highly successful consultants, a couple of people in particular who have done races around the world, I didn’t realize it. These guys in the US – the Karl Rove equivalents – they do races all over the world: in Armenia, in Africa, in Israel. I mean, they work for Bibi Netanyahu in his race. So, they do these races and they see which ads work, and which processes work best, and we have ideas about what we do over the course of the campaign. I’d tell them to you, but I’d have to shoot you.”

Romney’s secret speech also included anti-black and anti-Hispanic remarks, which puts Romney on an ideological plane with Netanyahu, who has been busy rounding up black Sudanese and other African immigrants in Israel and deporting them back to Africa. Netanyahu’s racism is not a product of Israel but was honed as a young man growing up in the northeast part of Philadelphia where the biggest racial issue was the “darkies” (the term used by Jews to describe African-Americans from north Philadelphia moving into Jewish neighborhoods in northeast Philadelphia and Netanyahu’s hometown of Cheltenham on the other side of the Philadelphia city line).

The release of the anti-Muslim video is supplemented by a campaign to run anti-Muslim and anti-Arab advertisements on buses in San Francisco and trains in New York City by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, an organization operated by noted anti-Arab and anti-Muslim Jewish racist Pam Geller. In addition, there are plans by the pro-Zionist French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo to publish cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

Innocence of Muslims, the racist ads in San Francisco and New York, and the reappearance of blasphemous anti-Muslim cartoons in France, are all part of a campaign by Netanyahu and his old friend Romney to box Obama into a corner and make him appear weak against rioting Muslims endangering Americans abroad.

The end game for Netanyahu is to force Obama into supporting an Israeli military attack on Iran or be replaced by Romney who has signed on to every one of Netanyahu’s positions, from scrapping the two-state solution of Israel and Palestine to attacking Iran.

Netanyahu’s right-wing extremism risks plunging the world into regional and global war, a situation that will see Netanyahu’s dreams of the final battle between Jehovah and Allah come to fruition.

WASHINGTON – In a rare statement and at a time of sharp Republican criticism of US President Barack Obama’s Israel record, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee thanked elected leaders including the president for “steadfast” support of Israel.

“With Israel and America facing unprecedented threats and challenges in the Middle East, we deeply appreciate the close and unshakeable partnership between the United States and Israel. President Obama and the bipartisan, bicameral congressional leadership, have deepened America’s support for Israel in difficult times,” said the statement issued shortly before Rosh Hashanah started on Sunday afternoon.

“Under the leadership of Democrats and Republicans, working together, US-Israel security cooperation has reached unprecedented levels,” the statement said.

The statement comes during an election season in which Mitt Romney, the Republican candidate for president, and his surrogates have repeatedly accused Obama of “throwing Israel under the bus” for differences with Israel over peacemaking with the Palestinians and more recently for not heeding Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s calls to issue clear red lines Iran must not cross with its suspected nuclear weapons program, or face US military action.

The AIPAC statement cites by name only two leaders: Obama and Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), the speaker of the US House of Representatives.

It emphasizes what it says is the need to further pressure Iran to end its nuclear weapons program, but stops short of calls for military action.

“As Rosh Hashanah nears, AIPAC — its leadership and staff — extends to Israel’s strongest supporters heartfelt appreciation for the work of this administration and Congress to strengthen the US-Israel relationship,” the statement concluded. “We stand ready to work together in the year ahead to enable both countries to meet the serious challenges we face, especially preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities.”
