French Jews, come home

Even now, after Marine Le Pen lost the French presidential election, the Left continues to blame everyone for the power she gained — everyone, that is, but itself. The Left refuses to acknowledge its own role in the growing polarization of European society.

Fearing the trends that preceded the catastrophe of World War II, the continent has gone to the other extreme. Now everyone is fighting against the ideas that Le Pen represents. And what happens now? Are the Islamists just going to disappear? European Jews are currently facing a real threat, and it isn’t from the traditional Christian anti-Semites. It is from Islam.

Let us revisit an interview with French philosopher Alain Finkielkraut, who said in 2005, amid violent riots sparked by young Muslim demonstrators in Paris and across France.

The riots were not “a revolt of youths from the suburbs against their situation, against the discrimination they suffer from, against the unemployment,” he said. “In France there are also other immigrants whose situation is difficult — Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese — and they’re not taking part in the riots. Therefore, it is clear that this is a revolt with an ethno-religious character.”

He argued that it was not racism that prompted the rage.

“To see them [the riots] as a response to French racism is to be blind to a broader hatred: the hatred for the West, which is deemed guilty of all crimes,” he said. In this context, France is seen as a clear representative of the West.

What Finkielkraut said was true, but the liberal elite’s political correctness police — restricting language and thought — prevented the West from confronting the dangers he pointed to. Moreover, it prompted accusations against Finkielkraut — who espouses clearly leftist views — of lining up with the nationalist camp.

Now, 12 years later, the West is scrambling to cover up its sad reality with pseudo-patriotic fig leaves. Who would have guessed? We are (almost) all Emmanuel Macron. Like fools, the Europeans are ignoring the giant sinkhole in the middle of the continent, hoping it will just go away by itself. But unfortunately, it continues to grow. But at least we are all Macron.

I am not impressed by French Jews’ patriotism. On the contrary — it raises questions regarding the blindness of Diaspora Jews.

Almost 70 years after the resurrection of their only national home in their ancient homeland, these Jews are still stubbornly relying on the compassion of other nations and convincing themselves that if they unite behind a certain candidate they will be left to their Jewish lives in the French republic. They must be forgetting that only two generations ago, the republic sent more than 78,000 Jews to the Nazi death camps.

Brothers and sisters, dear French Jews, you have contributed enough to other nations. It is time to return home. Leave Europe behind. Break the cycle of exile. Come to Israel and take part in building up your own people and your own land. We are waiting for you.
