The Jordanian newspaper al-Rad reported today (Sunday) that the US proposed a tripartite summit in order to resume the diplomatic peace negotiations without any conditions. According to the report, the Palestinian Authority refused the offer while Israel accepted it.

The news report claimed that the leaders in the West Bank informed Washington that before they agree to resume the peace negotiations, the construction in the Israeli settlements must cease and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails need to be released.

However, the newspaper also quoted Wasel Abu Yousef, a senior level PLO member, who said that the Palestinians “welcome the attempt to renew the peace process.”

According to the news report, Israel has no objection that a third party, the US in this case, participate in the direct talks. Israeli officials have not yet confirmed the claims of the newspaper.

About 2 weeks ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu uploaded a video to his Facebook page. In the video, Netanyahu turned to the Palestinians and said that he cares more about them than their leaders.
