Like it! My question is, how long before a recharge is needed? Besides, solar panels are ugly as hell and I wouldn’t not want them plastered all other the house and yard.

Down here, when we have a hurricane, the power can be out for weeks. That’s why I installed a 36kw generator which runs off our natural gas service. The unit switches on automatically when the grid goes down. Once power is restored, it switches back to grid.

The whole thing cost $15k. I’ve seen several installations for 7kw of solar panel power that cost up to $40K or more.

I have a 3,5 KW solar with just an emergency agm battery back 5 kw grid interactive, build by myself for 9,000 bucks.
Can run the whole house on it , but no airco .

Panels has a double function as car port.my average monthly bill is 10 bucks.

Cost of panels is a way down , around 0.75 us a watt

Nice set up Joop. As for the air conditioning, it’s a big necessity in my neck of the woods. Hurricanes generally hit during the heat of late summer. That means with no AC, you have to endure 95 degree days with humidity hoovering near 100%. Absolutely stifling.

We live in the tropics , every day 95 and a humidity around 70 a 80 % , we are used to it and using the airco only for a short time ( like 2 weeks ) in the mid summer when it is really steaming.

We have bin in Louisiana, and we know it, can be humid .

All the rooms in the house has a split unit, we are living a bit outside a little village in the middle of a jungle and have hurricanes and so on, but we love it , sometimes out of grid power for a day and night MAX most times just a couple of hours , but who cares , we are the shinning light in the middle of darkness and the beer is cold , and if it is blowing who needs airco ?

The power company over here is realty amazing after a big hurricane, they just pull out a 1000 service cars and people to do the repairs

Come over and lets have a Jack at our pool bar , i will smoke up a pork but whit a mountain of ribs.( it is just a 1600 miles south of you)

            mm pork-but whit a glace of Jack/maple .

We have also an endless supply of beautiful fresh water from our own well, that is a real treasure .

PS: we are using nearly trough the whole house LED light . that is a realty power saver, 15 spot lights in the garden + the house light using total 100 watt a hour !!!!

Loving hearing the humming sound of the fridge to cool my beer , you got to love it.

Thanks for the invite Joop. Not sure I’m up to a jungle adventure at my age. 🙂

Sounds like you’re living the life of Jimmy Buffet in Margaritaville, something I would have jumped for in my younger days.

Instead, we opted to stay close to home and build our own tropical paradise in the backyard, complete with an in-ground pool, party house with bar for libations, and an outdoor kitchen for BBQ, boiled crawfish, and grilled shrimp.

Darn, now I don’t want to go to work. 😉

You got it down , and completely , have fun, we are also a bit on the older side of life , 60 years now on this earth and still going strong , 20 years more ???

sponge cake is nor for me , we do MEAT , and we found our salt shaker, we know Jimmy, we have a lot of his songs .

LS, I’ve been struggling with this for a fortnight.

While I would never support sticking bits of glass to an ante-bellum piece of Southern history, I ask myself: How would Cajuns alter Bourbon Street with solar technology?

I thought the Gherkin would be ugly until they built it – a glass monstrosity, but now elegantly beautiful.

My father’s house isn’t the best example of aesthetically pleasing, but he has an annual income from the national grid as a registered supplier.

Car manufacturers are starting to following Tesla and are beginning to incorporate solar to reduce consumption and thereby emissions. How is that bad?

          Context is key….
