Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman warns it will be ‘tough to stand up for Israel at UN’ otherwise

American Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman warned Jewish leaders that if the new Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu backs down from its commitment to a two-state solution, it would be difficult for the United States to stand-up for the Jewish state at the United Nations.

Speaking at a conference of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, Sherman stated that “the US has stood up to efforts to single out Israel internationally” but that “the US will be watching closely how the new Israeli government will address the issue of the two-state solution.”

Sherman warned that the United States, which has stood up against efforts to single out Israel, will have a much tougher time “standing up for Israel internationally” if Netanyahu’s new government should back down from a commitment from a two-state solution.

Secretary of State John Kerry said in March that US President Barack Obama has has remained “committed” to a two-state solution for Israel and Palestinians.

“The position of the United States with respect to our long expressed hope, the Republicans and the Democrats alike (and) many presidents of the last 50 years or more, has always been for peace and President Obama remains committed to a two-state solution.”

Obama told reporters at a joint White House news conference that “we believe that two states is the best path forward for Israel’s security, for Palestinian aspirations and for regional stability.

“That’s our view and that continues to be our view. And Prime Minister Netanyahu has a different approach.”

Obama said the United States still backs the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, and that he would take the issue up with Netanyahu’s government once it is formed.

“This is a matter of figuring out how we get through a knotty policy difference that has great consequences for both countries and the region,” he said.

Since Netanyahu’s party won Israel’s March 17 election, not a day has passed without a US comment — official or otherwise — on the implications of his hardline rhetoric.

During campaigning he said he would block a Palestinian state and on polling day raised the specter of an Israeli Arab rush to the polls to drum up right-wing votes saying “the rule of the right wing is in danger: Arab voters are going to the polls in droves.”

Although Netanyahu has since tried to back-track — denying he reneged on the idea of a two-state solution and apologizing for giving offense — the damage has been done.

In addition to Obama’s stern reminder, US officials have been feeding criticism of Israel’s tactics to the American media.

Some in Israel, however, see the accusations and criticism coming from Washington as sour grapes from a US administration who would have liked to have seen Netanyahu’s coalition fall.

one inquiring mind would like to know why Wendy Sherman is involved in these goings on. Prior to her career as a diplomat, (which began under the Fellatio-master Clinton Presidency), “…She has formerly worked as a social worker, the director of EMILY’s list, the director of Maryland’s office of child welfare, and the founding president of the Fannie Mae Foundation. NOW, just what does being a social worker have to do with negotiating nuclear arms agreements with despotic dictatorships that are hell-bent on destroying all freedom?

BHO is a broken man, coming from a broken home ( read the book of L.Sinclair : Cocaine, sex, lies & murder ).. He is working hard to break the USA – with great success ! Look at the USA of today : everything going down the drain, just everything……..This socalled ”president” is supporting Israels worst enemy (Iran), BHO is even mocking those who trust in the the God of the bible – this will cut down the once great nation USA – just wait and see….
Where are all the brave americans ? Very soon, you wont have the chance anymore to save your once great nation.

Hi WG. Where have you been hiding? Long time no read.

      • wingate's avatar wingate Says:

Hi LS ! I’m struck with what I see is happening these days – at times, its paralyzing, but actually this fits : ”If you see all this happening, lift up your heads…” ! Great that there is people like former congresswoman Bachmann and others – the US nation should listen very carefully to her – mocking her like the socalled US president does is a sign of absence of common sense / terrible arrogance and leading into further destruction of the nation, sadly ( see Baltimore….) ! So , lift up your heads, all who trust in the Almighty ! Stay safe, LS !

        • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

Funny you should mention Baltimore. I kicked back last night and grabbed a bag of popcorn to watch the police finally take back the city from the thugs who were looting, committing arson and literally tearing up a black neighborhood. Down here we call it, ‘opening up a can of whup-ass’.

Guess what…cooler heads prevailed, black leaders came out and told everyone to go home and work for change in a peaceful manner. And they did! I’m sure Obama and many of his kind were disappointed as he and many others seem to feed on anarchy.

So goes the entire country. Cooler heads will prevail. It’s not the American way to hit the streets and destroy other American’s lives, property, and livelihoods. Besides, many of us are too damned busy earning a living for such shenanigans.

I know this is only the first night of the week-long curfew. But it’s a great start.

Last night, the true lines of tolerance were drawn and people were given the freedom to walk the streets in peace and work out their differences in a respectful manner.

One again, freedom won and anarchy lost.

          Thanks for weighing in WG.

US brave Americans will be electing a new President in 2016 and Obama will go on to build his Presidential Library. It’s Neville Netanyahu that’s taking Israel down the drain. The heathens are surrounding you, Iran says it wants to destroy you, and you keep electing do nothing Neyanyahu. Talk about keeping you heads in the sand.

Point well taken. I only ask, in your opinion, who in the last election in Israel would have made a better candidate and assembled a better government?

And by better I mean, a leader who ran on a platform of immediate confrontation with Iran, total rejection of a state of Palestine, ensure the full control of Jerusalem, the retake of Gaza, the retake of the West Bank and any other pro-Israel cause you can think of.

Not only JP, but I ask all our readers if anyone had such a platform. I’m just a poor old guy living in the swamp, so I don’t pretend to know everything.

As for your comments about Obama, JP. I totally agree. Obama will be just a ‘speed bump’ on the history’s timeline. His legacy will stink and people will soon forget about him and his miserable tenure as POTUS.

Meanwhile, America will rebound like never before, as well as the rest of the ‘western’ world through better cooperation economically and politically.

Folks, this President has been poison. Everything he touches turns to crap…a reverse Midas if you will.

        Thatisall.

        • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

With respect to Obama. Did not vote for the man either time but let’s give the devil his due. When he came into office in 2008 the U.S. economy was on the verge of collapse, GM as just one example was going under having dropped from 60 to below 5. Obama stepped in and provided the funds needed for it to recover. US banks were in crises and the Dow dropped to around 6000, while America was knee deep in two wars. He recognized as did Dwight D. Eisenhower that the U.S. was spending too much on defence and that the military industrial complex needed to be reigned in. Since WWII the free world deferred to Uncle Sam when a military crises piped up in their neighborhood. This realty always put American young and economy at risk while the local state actors in jeopardy kept their young safe and coffers full. No more, time for the Saudies and others for example to step up and carry the burden that puts them in jeopardy, this also goes for NATO in Europe.

          • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

I totally agree with you on the too many wars issue…hands down. I also agree that other nations must take more responsibility for their own defense to allow the US be stronger and allow us to stand by for help if the need arises.

For now, we have far too many wounded warriors and their disenfranchised families to deal with. Heartbreaking….to say the least.

That being said, I have to say some of Obama’s methods in the ‘bail out’ troubled me. With GM, Obama forced default on its corporate bonds in the hands of bondholders like you and me.

I could go on, but you get my drift.

          • Peter Hofman's avatar joopklepzeiker Says:

The USA EU deal is , you protect the EU and the EU protect the petro dollar, it is an old adagio , and perhaps it will change in time we do not want a war a on EU soil to protect the inflated petro dollar.

And Nato IS THE USA !

          • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

“And Nato IS THE USA !” That is precisely the problem. Time for EU to pay their fair share. America rebuilt Europe ( Marahall Plan) after America bailed your asses out of the Nazi fire (peace in our time) bullshit you couldn’t handel on your own. The EU has been feed on Miss Liberties tits ever since. Time for the EU to put on its big girl and big boy pants and carry more of the burden.

          • Peter Hofman's avatar joopklepzeiker Says:

The USA would not like that, losing support of the EU, after that not much left over .

And the Marchall plan was just to prevent that Russia would take over Europe, just geo politics.

dig in to ” the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan ”

We payed more than our fair share by supporting the USA petro dollar and allowing so the USA life style , but at everything comes an end.

            http://europeanhistory.about.com/od/coldwar/p/prmarshallplan.htm

Not much change trough the times !

So USA will keep investing in the NATO and the EU will keep trading with the USA and supporting the petro dollar, but as security a lot of country,s already joining the asian ( china ) bank as back up for the IMF, as it go,s completely wrong.

PS: where is our (eu county,s ) gold, we can not even inspect it !( just only for the NL 680 metric tons !! )

But There is always a solution for this kind of problems tested trough the times, called war !

          • Peter Hofman's avatar joopklepzeiker Says:

            quote :

β€œAnd Nato IS THE USA !” That is precisely the problem.

            Unquote :

            exactly !!!

Fueling the cold war, is good for the ailing economy !

          • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

Joop time for the EU to pick up more NATO costs. Obamas leading from behind as some call it is actually American pushing the nursed to take up their responsibilities in their back yards. Time for the rest of the world to pay their fair share, cause Uncle Sam is out of the world welfare business. The money the U.S. spent on your defence left Europe bigger budgets to fund their social needs.

As can be plainly seen on TV nightly, we have some social needs that need our attention. Your turn.

          • Peter Hofman's avatar joopklepzeiker Says:

I give already an answer on the same question (s) .

We stay together or we separate.

Separating will be catastrophic for the USA .

So USA plays his role and the EU plays his role.

OUR fair share ( more that fair ) is supporting the petro dollar to keep the USA upright and The USA role is to play the big bully on the geo political stage.

          • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

Joop I think your missing the point. I agree, united we stand divided we fall, but Europe needs to do more of the heavy lifting and Amaerica less. Otherwise in my opinion the whole system emplodes.

          • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

Joop, American industry leads the world and we do sell much to Europe, that is true. But there are other markets we deal with markest that do not need our protection. The money Europeans did not spend on defence went in many cases to government sponsored companies that compete directly with Amaerican companies. So you see it is rather contrived to say Europe supports petro dollars thus carrying more that it’s fair share. Simply not true. Europe needs to pick up more of the burden of their defence. PERIOD!

In my opinion, and it’s only my opinion, President Obama, and I use the term loosely, has put this country in such a condition as to be unrecognizable by anyone who still has a pulse!
He has defended the indefinite detention (FEMA camps), as being necessary for the containment of individuals who MIGHT pose a threat to national security. (The intention or thought police?)
He has reinforced the necessity of the NSA (who spy on the conversations of U.S. citizens either on the phone or on the Internet), in the interest of national security.
He has made unbelievable statements to the effect that, “The Muslim community has been an amazing contributor to the rich heritage of the United States.”
(Oped: where would our founding fathers be without the Muslim community??)
He also said that; ” The sweetest sound I’ve ever heard is the Muslim call to prayer.”
Ohama’s Amenesty and open door policy, which now declares that over 11 million illegal aliens are guaranteed full benefits and entitlement programs especially being able to receive Social Security benefits, even if they didn’t work for them, are for the future enrichment and security of the United States.
He states his policy will aid in the economic and cultural development the United States so urgently needs.”
He, alone has appropriated funds for various programs including Obamacare without consulting the United States Congress which allocates all funding…well not anymore!
All this and so much more, when put it all together, up holds the promise he made when he was campaigning in the last election. “I will fundamentally change this country.” It’s the only promise he ever made that he ever kept.
Netanyahu is the only leader in the free world who’s primary devotion is to the safety and protection of the land of Israel and her people. Prime Minister Netanyahu is not a fool. He’s not dumb enough to reveal political and military secrets to the entire world. Unlike Obama, who has no problem revealing the US military intentions to her enemies in carefully worded public addresses, White House functions and any televised event, all of which are owned and controlled by ‘team obama’
Obama is a spineless un regenerative, unrepentant, blatant liar.
Last weekend’s bombing by the IDF, is not the end of Israel’s dealings with Iran’s dog and pony show.
It is only the 1st sentence on the first page of the first chapter in the final resolution of this age old conflict.
If you take a look at the end of the book you’ll see Israel wins.
God has promised that at this time, Israel will never be uprooted again.

Avigdor Lieberman, Moshe Ya’alone, are two that come to mind. Israel needs a true right wing government to deal with this gathering storm, not one that talks right wing buts acts more left wing. Netanyahu has had his time and has mainly watched as Iran formed up her armies surrounding Israel and now on the verge of atomics.
