Operation Protective Edge will continue until quiet is returned, and Israel will not negotiate under fire, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said at the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday in Tel Aviv.

“I said at the beginning of the campaign that it will take time, and patience is needed,” Netanyahu said to his ministers, some of whom voiced criticism before the meeting – both direct and veiled – of how the government was waging the campaign.

Israel will continue to act “in all ways to change the current reality, to bring peace to all its citizens,” Netanyahu said.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said that Israel entered the negotiations in Cairo last week after the terror tunnels were destroyed and neutralized, and a 72-hour cease-fire was declared.

Since Hamas restarted the rocket fire on Friday morning, he said, the IDF has hit back hard, attacking “many dozens” of targets, including terrorists, command centers, rocket depots, and rocket launchers.

In an apparent reference to increasing frustration being voiced by residents of the South, Ya’alon said he understands their desire for security and quiet, and that Israel would not compromise until the rocket fire and terror from Gaza  ends. “Operation Protective Edge will continue until we achieve that,” he said.

Before the meeting, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman told reporters that the current situation cannot be allowed to continue, and if the government had listened to his arguments from day one, “we would now be beyond all this.”  Liberman called from the beginning for the toppling of Hamas.

“The  only thing left to do is defeat Hamas, clean up the territory and get out as quickly as possible,” he said.

Interior Minister Gideon Sa’ar said that “what we need to do is break Hamas’s military strength in Gaza. That was true before, it is true now, and will be true the longer we wait.”

Israels PM is under immense pressure mainly from the US government. This illegal US presidents hates Israel and the jews, he hates christians and their belief. Mr BHO – according to his actions – seems to be a gay muslim, trying to destroy the western judeo – christian societies. As a disciple of the Nazi ”preacher ” Jeremiah Wright, Mr BHO truly hates the Whites, hates the Jews and their belief. When the US citizens finally will awake, it will be far too late to go against the Trojan horse BHO – the USA will already be a dictatorship. The Price is high for cursing Israel, says the scriptures. The USA could be destroyed for doing so, like other nations / individuals before. WAKE UP USA – YOUR HOUSE IS ON FULL FIRE !

If I could, I would forward your comment to BHO himself…only he’s playing golf as we speak. It’s best he continue to work on his golf swing. Otherwise, it’s back to work to screw things up some more.

I beg to differ, come 2016 the American people will elect a new President. With respect to world problems, why is it always Americas responsibility? Where’s Europe? Many of these pressing issues are in Europes backyard. People say Obama is leading from behind when in fact he’s pushing others to pick up their fair share dealing with global issues. The days of good Old Uncle Sam shouldering the load is over. France, Germany, England, Italy, and others need to spend more on their own defense. Because America has been the main standard bearer of the West, these other counties have been spending money on their social issues, well it’s now time the US takes some of the billions spent protecting Europe while they feathered their nests and spend it on US social issues like schools, healthcare and national infrastructure.

I agree JP. Why is it always the US? I guess the only answer is that no one else will. But when you think about it, Europe was responsible for the last two world wars.

        • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

LS American spends more on defense than the next 8 counties combined. More of their money goes to social issues while Americas goes to the military to help keep them safe. Those days are over. America needs to spend less on defense and more on social issues while others need to spend less on social issues and more on defense. It’s time for the other counties to pick up their share of global issues.

A little skewed don’t you think? Wonder why America has a deficit issue, because we’ve been carrying the rest of Europe on our backs. No more!!!!

Agreed….in part. Others should do more for their defense and less for social programs. As for the US, however, military spending should be increased ensuring a strong military with the ability to fight at least two major wars at once.

In doing so, social program spending must decrease. There are far too many entitlements, government programs, and waste.

Much of what the US government does today is NOT bestowed upon it by the US Constitution. As a result, they are so engaged in areas for which they were not designed they now fail to live up to their true responsibilities outlined in the Constitution, i.e. border security, strong defense, etc.

In short, the beast the is the US federal government must be put back in it’s constitutional cage.

Ok LS old buddy, Here’s your chance, show me where you’d get the extra money for the military.

OK, for starters I’d cut the following…

            Transporation 3%
            Food and Ag 3%
            Education 2%
            Housing and Community 3%
            Science 1%
            Energy and Environment 1%

Keep all other. SS and Medicare were paid by separate taxes and should have been place in escrow long ago.

All these cuts relate to items not covered by the US Constitution.

          • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

“Keep all other. SS and Medicare were paid by separate taxes and should have been place in escrow long ago.” Yup should have been, but wasn’t.

The cuts you proposed amount to very little, so I’m assuming you’re kidding. social security, Medicare and the military are your big three. I’m afraid it’s the Military that’s the one.

          • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

So, if the EU doesn’t want to fall under the Islamic red crescent or the Russian Bear, it better start beefing up its military spending. It is written.

          • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

JP, honestly, I’m not going to pretend I have all the answers. Solving the US budget, or lack thereof, is way beyond the scope of comments on a blog…and my expertise. All I’m saying is that it scares the hell out of me that cuts are being made to our military at a time when it seems the whole world is threatening the US. Sure, the list I made amounts to little or nothing, but it’s going to take years to get this financial house in order and I have yet to see anyone who has all the answers.

          • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

LS, understood and agree. It’s my opinion that Europe has been laying back and looking to Uncle Sam to police the world for decades, and allocating precious little on their own defense. What a wind fall for them, all that money not spent on their own defense went to social needs. All I’m saying is those days are over, and that the EU and others better be more serious about boosting their own military spending for their own self defense. Unfortunately I do not see peace breaking out over the world anytime soon.
