In a stunning development that threatens to further destabilize the Middle East, Iran has deployed an elite unit of its Revolutionary Guard to help the Iraqi government take on ISIS, the al-Qaida offshoot that has seized several areas in the northern part of the country.

Two battalions of the Quds Forces are already making progress in their fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, the Wall Street Journal reported. The al-Qaida splinter group took control of Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit on Wednesday, but Revolutionary Guard and Iraqi troops overtook 85 percent of the city on Thursday, Iraqi and Iranian security forces told the paper.

Iran, which is dominated by Shiites, has close ties to Iraq’s Shiite-led government.  Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called ISIS “an extremist, terrorist group that is acting savagely” during an appearance on state television, Al Jazeera reported. “For our part, as the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran … we will combat violence, extremism and terrorism in the region and the world.”

The Iranian military is considering shifting troops fighting in Syria, where forces are supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government, to Iraq if the deployment of the Quds Forces doesn’t make any progress in the latest offensive.

The Times of London said 150 members of the Quds Forces are in Iraq, where ISIS militants seized Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, earlier this week.

Meanwhile, ISIS continue to vow that it would soon march on Baghdad.

“’Our final destination will be Baghdad, the decisive battle will be there,’ that’s what their leader kept repeating,” a tribal figure near Tikrit relayed to Reuters.

  1. Sunni verses Shia, The war heats up.

This is going to become a whole lot uglier, and the stakes are probably going to become higher and higher for the US, and the west, AND especially for Israel.

There are no “men”, left in Washington, DC. There is no one, in any position to do so who has the gonads and the vision ,to move decisively to secure America’s interests
    .
The only, “player”, whose (hidden) interests may be being acted upon is BHO. I have come to believe that he truly DOES want as much chaos, disorder, and crisis as can be ginned up.

US foreign relations are in chaos. US domestic affairs are headed, across the board, downhill. Almost nothing is getting better off, and almost everything is becoming worse off.

This President has been a complete disaster for the United States, and the moronic white liberal progressives who should’ve known better, from the moment that the Jeremiah Wright tirades entered the public domain, but who nevertheless voted this man in as their SUPREME LEADER, er, President, TWICE, still lack the intellectual honesty and the moral courage to admit that they were so easily pandered to, and made into fools.

Well said. And he is far from finished in building up the Federal police forces to protect him when he tries to stay in power amidst the chaos.

      • It wouldn’t surprise me when his term is finished, they will have to drag him kicking and screaming from the White House.

I am afraid that the UN will appoint him Secretary General so he can fundamentally-transform the world.

          • Eyeman's avatar Eyeman Says:

I don’t think he is that big. besides, the movement behind him (if it is to have any staying power) will have another front man (or front woman) ready to continue their march “FORWARD”.

Hopefully, the larger body of the voting public will have had enough of uber-leftist shenanigans, and will set their political sails on a different course, more to the center, better yet 30-60 degrees to the right of center.

I think that the out of office BHO will content himself to become super wealthy, a la Bill Clinton, drawing down 6 figure honoraria in return for speeches containing his own personal brand of lofty rhetoric, laced with mind numbing assertions about presumed moral ethical superiority of the left, and denials of his EVER having harmed anyone!

I can see the long lines snaking around the lecture halls, even now!
