Dan Miller joins “A Sclerotic goes to War”
(It is with great pleasure and gratitude that I announce a new editor who has joined me in keeping this the best site online covering the Iran/Israel conflict. Welcome, Dan Miller ! – JW )
I was graduated from Yale University in 1963 with a B.A. in economics and from the University of Virginia School of law, where I was the notes editor of the Virginia Law Review in 1966. Following four years of active duty with the Army JAG Corps, with two tours in Korea, I entered private practice in Washington, D.C. specializing in communications law. I retired in 1996 to sail with my wife, Jeanie, on our sailboat Namaste to and in the Caribbean. In 2002, we settled in the Republic of Panama and live in a very rural area up in the mountains.
I have contributed to Pajamas Media and Pajamas Tatler. In addition to my own blog, Dan Miller in Panama, I an an editor of Warsclerotic and contribute to China Daily Mail when I have something to write about North Korea.

I had the privilege of seeing Mr. Nixon in person on two occasions. One was his at a campaign speech in 1960 in Lafayette, Louisiana. (see link below for the transcript of his speech I heard, but sadly, did not understand at the ripe young age of 9 years). I do, however, remember my mother saying to take a good look at him as he may be President one day. The next was at the funeral of one of our old senators. Actually, I rather liked Nixon and would trade him for Obama in a heartbeat.

” A man down in Texas heard Pat on the radio mention the fact that our two youngsters would like to have a dog. And, believe it or not, the day before we left on this campaign trip we got a message from Union Station in Baltimore saying they had a package for us. We went down to get it. You know what it was.
It was a little cocker spaniel dog in a crate that he’d sent all the way from Texas. Black and white spotted. And our little girl-Tricia, the 6-year old-named it Checkers. And you know, the kids, like all kids, love the dog and I just want to say this right now, that regardless of what they say about it, we’re gonna keep it.”
(Six months later … )
“And you know what? Well, I just have to say that damned dog was simply delicious, the best BBQ we ever had. Dee-LI-cious! Waived my hands overhead in the double Victory salute, and the little fella got itseff magically divvied up right nice, enough to feed the masses, and Pat and I knocked back a couple quarts of Night Train Express and kicked back, knowing full well Ike could never turn me down, not after delivering a spiel like that about Checkers.”
Wishing you and yours . . . I remain, as dead as a doornail.
