Obama never explained how allowing Iran to continue to enrich uranium decreases the likelihood of war.

It isn’t surprising that the US and the other five powers signed a deal with Iran on Saturday. Over the past few weeks, US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry made it clear that they were committed to signing a deal with Iran as quickly as possible.

And it isn’t surprising that the deal these overeager leaders signed with the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism makes the world a much more dangerous place than it was before the agreement was concluded.

With the US and its allies far more eager to reach an accord with Iran on its illicit nuclear weapons program than Iran was, it was obvious from the outset that any deal ultimately reached, at least as long as these negotiating conditions remained in force, would facilitate rather than inhibit Iran’s quest to build a nuclear arsenal. And indeed, the sanctions relief that Iran has gained simply by signing on the dotted line will be sufficient to buffet the Iranian economy through a successful nuclear weapons test.

Iran will achieve nuclear capability while enriching itself through the deal because the deal gives Iran sanctions relief without requiring Iran to make any irreversible concessions. Indeed, Iran just received the international community’s permission to continue to enrich uranium, keep all its nuclear installations open and build new centrifuges.

While the deal isn’t surprising in and of itself, Obama’s decision to conclude it now makes clear the true goal of his foreign policy. To understand that goal, it is first necessary to consider an aspect of the deal that, on the surface, makes little sense.

The negotiations with the Iranians that culminated in Saturday night’s agreement went on for a year.

And yet, the final deal reflects Iran’s opening positions.

That is, over the course of the entire year, American and European negotiators were not able to move Iran’s positions one iota.

So what has the Obama administration been doing for the past year? Since Iran’s positions were the same all along, why didn’t they sign this deal a year ago? The US’s strength relative to Iran did not diminish significantly since a year ago. So the US didn’t need this agreement more now than it did a year ago.

Clearly, Obama did not spend the last year trying to build domestic American support for a deal that enables the regime that calls daily for the annihilation of America to become a nuclear power. With Iran building military bases all over Central and South America, Obama never bothered trying to make the case to the American people that they would be more secure with this regime in possession of the capacity to kill millions of Americans with one bomb.

Obama never stood before the Congress to explain how a deal that gives America’s Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval to Iran’s illicit nuclear weapons program advances US national security. He never explained how allowing Iran to continue to enrich uranium decreases the likelihood of war.

So what did Obama need the last year for? If he wasn’t concerned with getting a less dangerous deal, and he didn’t care what the American people though about his facilitation of Iran’s nuclear weapons program, what prevented him from okaying the agreement last year? To ascertain the answer, it is worth considering Finance Minister Yair Lapid’s comments Sunday morning. Beyond noting the nuclear deal’s danger to Israel’s security, Lapid said, “I am worried not only over the deal but that we have lost the world’s attention.”

And indeed, Israel has lost the world’s attention. Its appropriately deep concerns over Iran’s nuclear behavior were belittled, ignored and derided, first and foremost by the Obama administration. Worse than belittling Israel’s concerns, which are completely shared by the Sunni Arab world, Obama and Kerry have castigated as warmongers those Americans who agree with Israel’s concerns and have attacked them as traitors who seek to push America into an unnecessary war. At the same time, they have presented the dispute as one of Israel against the rest of the world, ignoring that the Sunni Arab world shares Israel’s concerns.

Statements to this effect from US officials have been legion since the details of the deal were first divulged to Israel and the Gulf States by the French and the British three weeks ago.

The brazenness of these anti-Israel statements points to the main action that Obama and his advisors have engaged in for the past year, while not moving Iran a millimeter from its opening position at the nuclear talks.

Over the past year, Obama has engaged in systematically weakening Israel’s position both regionally and in Washington. Regionally, the US has forced Israel into talks with the Palestinians that are engineered to weaken Israel strategically and diplomatically. The US has delegitimized Israel’s legal rights to sovereignty and self-defense, while effectively justifying Palestinian terrorism as a legitimate response to Israeli actions – which themselves were perfectly legal. So, too, the US has given a green light to the EU’s illegal, discriminatory economic war against Israel.

Beyond that, the Obama administration has significantly expanded the prospect of war between Israel and Syria by leaking Israeli strikes against Syrian targets that posed a threat to Israel’s security.

The US has also weakened Israel’s capacity to take steps short of war to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear weapons possessing state by leaking key components of Israel’s covert operations against Iran’s nuclear program.

In the US, the Obama administration has targeted Israel’s American supporters. This has been advanced, first and foremost, by actively weakening AIPA C. As Lee Smith explained in Tablet, the administration has taken three key steps to neutralize AIPA C as an effective force in Washington.

It has supported J Street and so legitimized anti-Israel policymaking.

Obama appointed outspoken critics of the US-Israel alliance to key positions in his national security team. First and foremost in this arena was his appointment of Chuck Hagel to serve as defense secretary.

Finally, Obama discredited AIPA C, painting it as an unthinking warmonger by forcing the group to lobby Congress to support his helter-skelter rush to war against Syria. The coup de grace was Obama’s sudden abandonment of his plans to bomb Syria, which left AIPA C high and dry, looking like an anti-Semitic caricature of itself.

The culmination of this long process of delegitimizing Israel as a warmongering, ungrateful ally and its supporters as turncoats who are forcing the US to endanger itself for the benefit of the Jewish state was the administration’s hysterical campaign against Israel and its supporters in the lead-up to Saturday’s signing ceremony in Geneva. Everyone, from the White House to Kerry, accused Israel and its supporters of trying to force the US to fight an unnecessary war.

When we consider Obama’s decision to wait for a year to sign the deal that enables Iran to become a nuclear power in the context of his main activities over the past year, we understand his foreign policy.

His goal is not to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power. It isn’t even to facilitate a rapprochement between America and Iran. The goal of Obama’s foreign policy is to weaken the State of Israel.

JW, I have no idea why you compare Glick’s essay with the “looniest of ‘birthers’.” Many American Jews who keep themselves abreast of events have been stating her premise for quite some time. Have you forgotten that Obama spent many years listening to a church pastor who is anti-Israel? Have you forgotten that one of Obama’s favorite persons is a Columbia professor who is rabidly anti-Israel? Have you forgotten that Obama’s friendship circle in Chicago contained many left-wing radicals? Do I have to tell you how disgusted many Jews are that Obama has lifted JStreet into so many discussions inside the Oval Office? Did not Obama’s failure to support Iran’s Green Revolution give you a hint where is heart lies?
Ms. Glick is only stating what many Jewish and non-Jewish Americans have been saying. She has not dived off the deep end.

    • Joseph Wouk's avatar josephwouk Says:

      I disagree.

Obama doesn’t care about Israel, sure.

To say that making Israel weak was his motivation for this deal is idiotic.

He’s so clearly motivated by leftist ideology, in particular isolationism, that to think that hurting Israel is the real motivation is naval contemplating at best.

His defense of the plan (watch on YouTube) is a PURE isolationist rant.

      • Mark's avatar Mark Says:

        JW,
Wouldn’t an “isolationist” be someone who wants to remove US from world affairs and take a neutral view between our allies and enemies?
Obama is not an “isolationist”. He has spent 5 years stabbing our allies in the back over and over and over while coddling up to our enemies.
If Obama wanted to be an “isolationist” he wouldn’t have even gone to Geneva to sign a deal whose only goal is to stop Israel from defending itself.

It’s also worth recalling Obama had the most liberal voting record of all 100 senators during the short time he was there. He is the furthest thing from the mainstream that exists in this country.

        • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

BHO is an “isolationist” in-as-much as he wants to pull America away from the costly habit of being world cop. The world will now need to figure out how to get along with itself.

      • Mark's avatar Mark Says:

Perhaps you forgot that during the 2012 Democratic convention the majority of delegates booed when they tried to put back Jerusalem and God into the platform?

For whatever reason. part of leftist ideology is hatred of America and it’s allies, and very much a hatred of Israel.

I highly appreciate Caroline Glicks sharp mind, her courage and strength to present her view in a rational analytic way. ( Take me : I can hardly bear anymore the present political situation / I would like to punch the noses of so many political players whom I consider as anti-Jewish bastards). But I think in one point Caroline Glick misses the point . Its not BHO making the WH – politics in my opinion. BHO is in my opinion absolutely not the person capable to do that ! I rather see very strong and evil people (NWO people) controlling BHO / telling him word by word (teleprompter!) what to say, what to do ! I think we have to start to see the unimaginable as an option …..
I think the NWO People wanna get rid of Israel as an obstacle for a false world peace. I’m glad that they couldnt be more wrong : The Guardian of Israel will destroy their evil plans !

  4. Joesph,

Israel is the only country which could actually counter the Iranian threat. If Obama does not want that threat countered then Caroline Glick’s statement that Obama’s foreign policy goal to weaken the State of Israel makes sense

    • Joseph Wouk's avatar josephwouk Says:

That’s why he’s supplying us with more weapons systems than any other previous president, I guess…

      Mladen…

I loath and distrust Obama more than anyone in power today with the possible exception of Khameini.

Making unfounded accusations against him only makes him look innocent of the ones he is truly guilty of.

The government always calls it a “conspiracy theory” when they are accused of crimes. This defense has WORKED almost every time since the assassination of JFK.

Saying Obama’s “goal” is to weaken Israel actually HURTS our case against him.

Please think about this and try to understand what I mean.

      • The situation is dire. People who have no clue about Shi’a eschatology and the Twelvers have just negotiated a deal which leads to nuclear war. Who says it would? Scholars of Islam like  Bernard Lewis  and  Raphael Israeli, former CIA director  James Woolsey, former CIA spy who spent 10 years among the Revolutionary Guards,  Reza  Kahlili  and German scholar Matthias Kuntzel.

The Obama administration track record in the Middle East is abysmal. The Obama administration supports the Muslim Brotherhood an anti–Semitic and anti-American organization whose credo is   “Allah is our objective; the Quran is our law, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and dying in the way of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.”

As Sherlock Holmes used to say, when you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Supplying us with more weapons systems than any other previous president is irrelevant when at the same time he supports the Muslim Brotherhood across the Middle East and is doing everything to make use of these weapons systems impossible against Iran.

Congress should impeach Obama on Iran or be complicit in facilitating the next Holocaust. Senators, Congressmen and Congresswomen should ask themselves – what do we know about Sh’a eschatology, the Mahdi and the Twelvers? Did we have congressional hearings on Iranian motives? Have leading western scholars of Islam been consulted? Unless the US Congress resolves to find out the truth for itself, it will, to quote Churchill, have committed an act of abdication of duty without parallel.

On November 12, 1936, Winston Churchill said this:

Two things, I confess, have staggered me, after a long Parliamentary experience, in these Debates. The first has been the dangers that have so swiftly come upon us in a few years, and have been transforming our position and the whole outlook of the world. Secondly, I have been staggered by the failure of the House of Commons to react effectively against those dangers. That, I am bound to say, I never expected. I never would have believed that we should have been allowed to go on getting into this plight, month by month and year by year, and that even the Government’s own confessions of error have produced no concentration of Parliamentary opinion and force capable of lifting our efforts to the level of emergency. I say that unless the House resolves to find out the truth for itself, it will have committed an act of abdication of duty without parallel.

“Congress should impeach Obama on Iran or be complicit in facilitating the next Holocaust.”

As much as I agree, impeachment will not happen. The Democrats hold the majority in the Senate and they will not support it. The same would happen as did in the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

          • Democrats are Americans as well and they have a conscience . Bill Clinton was impeached on  perjury and of obstruction of justice . Obama would be responsible for the deaths of millions and so would Congress and all of the US if they do not stop this . I am not sure whether Congress would define the incompetence leading to a nuclear war in which millions would die as an impeachable offense but Congress should decide whether it fits “high crime or misdemeanor”
The time for partisan politics is over, this is way more serious.

          • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

Partisan politics is inescapable in a democracy. I’m going to go out on a limb here MA, but I have to say that if it wasn’t for partisan politics, Israel probably would have attacked Iran by now.

          • You write” Partisan politics is inescapable in a democracy.” Not in the time when national survival is at stake. Churchill fought Hitler with a coalition. If Americans believe that Iran is not their problem as well then it is is just out of pure ignorance. Gingrich once said that Americans would wake up once a nuclear bomb hits LA. Are people really so stupid to keep disregarding what scholars of Islam and Iran experts have been warning for years?

          • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

            Yes.

          • Well, Israelis are not stupid. Israelis know that they do not have a choice but to act else they will be incinerated. Journalists in the west are so ignorant that they so not understand Israel’s stark choice ( actually it is the world’s choice too) so that is the reason they think Netanyahu is bluffing.

          • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

I agree….but then, what do I know? I’m just another stupid American. 😉

      • Mark's avatar Mark Says:

“That’s why he’s supplying us with more weapons systems than any other previous president, I guess…”

To the extent that’s true it’s only because weapons systems get more advanced over time. US military funding has been around 3 billion per year for a long time now (rising slightly because of inflation).

Many of us feel it might indeed be better for Israel to cut military ties with US completely as it seems to be used as a way for US to bully Israel into acting against its own interests.

  5. John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

The natural progression of Human social development was to organize into ever larger groupings. Starting with family groups, to small framing groups to villages, city states finally countries. It would seem the final step would be to organize as a world entity. The internet has already wired the world for this final step. One advantage to this, if the world is organized as a world government the likelihood of that government nuking itself drops considerably.
    I’m not advocating such a step,but
the creation of a world government could help mankind move through the dangerous time of human self annihilation.

  6. Mark's avatar Mark Says:

    JW,
You need to watch yourself if you want to condemn the “looniest of birthers”.

WND has covered the president’s birth problems more than any other media outlet,

As of Sept 2012. only 27% of Republicans polled said Obama was born in US. 39% of Republicans said he was not born in US, and 34% of Republicans were not sure.

    http://www.wnd.com/2012/10/americans-distrust-of-obama-birth-story-rises/

So the point is that the percent of Republicans and for that matter Americans in general unconvinced of Obama’s birth eligibility is a lot larger than the lefty media would have you believe.

There are a lot of us.

    • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

The only proof Mr. Obama has offered to stave off the ‘birthers’ was a forgery of a birth certificate. Anyone with half a brain and a laptop could see the image file was manipulated. That being said, the Obama enablers in the media immediately surrounding him and attacked the ‘birthers’ to discredit their credibility.

Now, just imagine what a Presidential disqualification would mean. I imagine that everything Obama has done so far would be null and void….signed bills, executive orders, appointments, treaties, etc. In other words, chaos. Congress would not let this happen, you can be sure. But it should have.

      • wingate's avatar wingate Says:

Thats what worries me the most : Lots of US citizens know that this or that should be done without actually doing something.
If the house is on fire you KNOW you should extinguish the fire !
If you dont DO IT, your house is gone….By now I’m terrified to see
that the USA is possibly led to destruction and those who see this happen dont do what they know they should do… ! Who is going to step in for the USA globally….. ??? God have mercy on us !

        • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

The inner workings of a democracy are slow at best. Especially when you have an opposition party who commands a majority in the Senate and a sitting President in the White House. Next year could usher a change for the better. The Republicans have an opportunity to take a majority in the Senate. If this happens, then the only thing standing between us and a return to honor will be the veto power of President Obama. That will not change until 2016.

Unfortunately WG, in calling for a return to the Constitution, we have to operate within the confines of the Constitution. To do so otherwise would constitute revolution and lawlessness. This country is not yet ready for that radical step. Constitutional authority MUST be allowed to run its course. 😎

          • wingate's avatar wingate Says:

LS – I’m afraid there is no more time to make plans for years, even though I agree that it would be best that everything goes according to the Constitution, which takes its time. I see it the way that the present WH administration has taken hostage / twisted the Constitution / the political apparatus by cheating / by lying and manipulating the public. I am reminded of the takeover of
Germany by mixed legal / illegal means in the 30ies…..! I think if those who see whats going on in the USA stick to formal proceeding, then this house on fire called USA will burn down……I think whats necessary is courageous action by brave american citizens….! If someone steals your bike – you go and take it back ! If someone steals your nation – you say this and that should be done but lets wait and see…..? May God have mercy with the US and the western world but I”m very much afraid that this train has left the station…..

I have a lot of faith in our system of government (much like yours), and resorting to armed insurrection is better left to the crazy terrorists and insurgents.

I’m very fortunate to know some of my representatives on a personal level. I assure you, we are all on the same page in these matters. I am not standing around hoping and waiting. I’m engaged on a grass roots level along with millions of other folks who feel the same way I do.

          • wingate's avatar wingate Says:

LS – what I see as the adequate action at present is what was planned but only partially ( why ?where were the others?gone fishing?) executed action of masses of bikers / truckers going to Washington and demanding this administration to be removed. Look, in China the dictatorship was so much under pressure by these peaceful citizens on Tienanmen Square that they saw only mass-killings of these citizens as way to stay in power ( thousands of people murdered/told by reliable source present in China). I dont expect the US government to act the same way at present ( but: FEMA camps? DHS buying millions of ammunition? Hmmmm….If you say I’m a crazy conspiracy wacko : In WW2, were’nt those starting to report about Nazi death factories called crazy too? Didnt People then say too: thats totally impossible-this just cannot be?). If millions of US citizens would peacefully march to Washington and STAY until their demands are fullfilled – this present WH administration would either have to leave office or act as the chinese government did on Tienanmen square…..

          • The last time we had a revolution in this country, my state became part of the Confederacy. At the end of this brutal war which we lost, 620,000 Americans lost their lives. This is more than any other war the USA was ever engaged in, including WWll. Not a pretty sight. For now, I prefer the voting booth to the battlefield.

          • wingate's avatar wingate Says:

LS – I agree, war has to be avoided if possible….But I think that present WH politics is actually preparing the stage for war ( by NOT controlling a terror-state like Iran ) and is also preparing the stage for a dictatorship inside the USA. To avoid a war in the ME and a dictatorship inside the USA I think its more than worth to give a try and march peacefully to Washington in millions as it was planned and annnounced some weeks ago. Did it not happen because of threats from the WH or why else didnt people show up as announced ?

Here’s just one example of American resolve…

“Two unarmed U.S. B-52 bombers flew over disputed islands on a training mission in the East China Sea without informing Beijing while Japan’s main airlines ignored Chinese authorities when their planes passed through a new airspace defense zone on Wednesday.”

            http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/sns-rt-us-china-defense-usa-20131126,0,2697370.story

Personally, I didn’t choose to be an American. My grandfather made that choice for me. As a young man in 1911, he left his family in Sicily and came to the USA via Ellis Island. What courage! Back then over 25% of Sicily left for the US. No jobs I was told. Anyway, he settled here in south Louisiana and raised a family while working as a barber, security guard, store owner, gas station operator, mechanic, and carpenter. The opportunities for him were endless and they still are today for anyone wishing to work.

I remember my dad telling me they had the first generator in town and would fire it up at night just to have light. All the neighbors would come over to visit late into the night and enjoy each other’s company. Yes, times were tough, but I wonder what would have happened to my family had he stayed in Sicily.

Anyway, that’s my story. I could go on but I guess you get my drift.

          • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

In any country, wherever you look you can find examples of where things can get better. The 21’st century will look nothing like the 20th. I was in a meeting just the other day with a Google represetative presenting. He said one thing I found particularly interesting. He said ” the technology you’re using today is the worse technology you’ll ever use from this point forward.” Technology will rule the 21st century and American is the world leader in technological innovation. Microsoft, Apple and Google for example and they are just the tip of the Iceberg.

The American economy is the largest in the world and will become only stronger on the verge of US energy independence, which will aid in controlling the balance of trade, which will aid American business. Obaman has unwound some wars and kept us from entering others. War is expensive! The US is the militarily the strongest country in the world, but must be prudent on how it’s used. I read the other day that the next generation of US fighter plane may be fitted with lasers as weapons, still a few years out but coming. The US currently has 10 aircraft carriers that are being loaded up with drones. The rest of the world combined has only 10. So, technology, energy independence and Military strength put America in good shape moving forward from where I sit.

          • Joseph Wouk's avatar josephwouk Says:

            John, Steve….

Thanks for your heartfelt answer. I agree with the truth behind all you both wrote.

The problems that bedevil our country has nothing to do with its economic or any other “potential.”

They have to do with a system that has become rigged by a combination of technology, (TV ads) psychology (watch “manufacturing consent”) and unlimited spending. (Citizen’s United et al)

The result is a system that is unresponsive to the needs of its citizens to the point of being self destructive. Steve Ratner just reported that in the last 5 years the top 1%’s income has risen 31%. The other 99% saw a rise of .04%, well below inflation.

It’s our constitution that has been subverted through science and technology. It’s no longer the 18th century and we need new rules if our democracy and our country is to survive.

            What do you think?

The government is mostly responsive to the beneficiaries of the income redistribution scam in this country. Income growth is slow for the middle class because we are being hammered by things like Obamacare, welfare, high taxes, government regulations, and stock market damage to our investment accounts and retirement.

I could say a lot more, but I’ve got to go shopping and get ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow….plenty of guests, food, beer, family, and fun. Later guys.

JW, I agree with what you say . There is good and evil in this world and the biggest challenge humanity will face moving forward is managing how the up coming technological revolution is used .

If used for the betterment of all technology will be a blessing. If used to benefit the few technology will be a nightmare.

Obavez policy with regards to Iran actually is very easy to understand and to explain.
I copy from one of my earlier posts.

Obavez’ strategy is totally transparent. He tries to prevent Israeli action by keeping Israel talking with him. Why is he doing it?
This whole charade is not about Iran giving up its nuclear weapons program in exchange for the end of sanctions.
It is about US rapprochement with Iran. They can keep their nuclear weapons program. No more sanctions. They are no longer internationally isolated but internationally recognised as a normal state and regional power.
In exchange they promise to be nice to America and stop their ugly rhetoric. The US achieves a historic ‘peace’ with Iran. Obavez is hailed as the new messiah, the ‘prince of peace”.
If the Israelis take out Iran’s nuclear Program the US can give them nothing that they want really bad in exchange.
The nuclear program: gone. The sanctions: gone with the nuclear program.

JW, you said Obama’s “supplying us with more weapons systems than any other previous president.” I’m eager to read about this. Could you give us a list?

There are several reasons the US has supported Israel,in the past beyond the Evangelical presuppositions. Israel from a tactical perspective has always served as a lighting rod..a FOB for western interests. Obama has deserted the base, foolishly thinking he can re-establish new ones in Vientiane and Phnom Phen …the fortress (embassy) their building outside Vientiane is massive, 10 times larger than the current one, I just drove by it two weeks ago…but this realignment is not going to work out like Obama thinks..Asians are much to smart not to understand he is untrustworthy. I wish I had time to fully explain, but leaders here have had their eyes opened. There must be someone pulling the strings with Obama, he came out of nowhere, questionable background..that no one can verify, associations with shady people. Someone wants this guy where he is and saw to it he got there. Let’s face it..he is not a thinker, he is not a veteran on the international stage in any arena. So who is keeping his secrets? I mean besides the US (IC) It’s a short list of those who could orchestrate that! I hope the US can survive him, I left the US almost 3 years ago, I don’t see myself returning, but I pray somehow the American people will wake up and take back their country. For all my frustration with the US, I clearly see the virtues. I also am quite sure Israel will strike Iran when the time comes, this will set them back for some time, the question is will America reengage under a new administration, and will the Shia choose a new path in the aftermath…

Sounds like a book idea to me!

      John…

I agree. A book like that should be written if it hasn’t already been.

Listen, I’d like to ask for your help on something with this site. For obvious reasons I can’t publish my email here. Could you contact me via Facebook?

Just message “joseph wouk” and we’ll connect.

      Happy Thanksgiving and Chanukah!
