Winners and losers in Geneva

Iran and the Six Powers reconvene on Nov. 20 for another attempt to push through a joint draft of their first interim nuclear accord. It was French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius who broke the news that after three tense days, the Iran nuclear talks in Geneva had finished “without a deal,” although intense bargaining past midnight Saturday, Nov. 9 brought an accord closer than ever before.
Fabius amazed his American and European colleagues and Iran when he stuck to its guns to the last, insisting that Iran’s Arak heavy water plant must not come online and that Tehran dispose of its 20-percent enriched uranium stock. Foreign Minister Javad Zarif refused to accept this. No one believed Fabius would go so far as to scupper the conference.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said: “It is natural. They are six countries with different perspectives, and probably different interests, and they need to reach a conclusion. If the other side is ready to reach a solution, we are also ready, and we have made good progress on this path.”

The intense pressure the US beamed at Israel will now be trained on Paris.
debkafile: While Binyamin Netanyahu’s forceful objections undoubtedly contributed to the Elysee Palace’s stand,  it was President Francois Holland’s decision to draw a resentful line against the partnership between Presidents Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin for dictating the fate of the Middle East between them, and even monkey with the region’s oil markets and economies by lifting key sanctions. France felt it was being pushed to the sidelines by this partnership and decided to align itself with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Arabs to put a spanner in the works of Washington’s deal with Tehran.

The Geneva conference reconvenes in ten days, but meanwhile President Obama will be licking his wounds from a stinging setback. Iran’s three top men, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Zarif, will need to talk fast at home to explain how long months of secret dialogue with the Americans ended in a public humiliation.

In his statement to reporters, Secretary of State John Kerry said that a great deal of progress had been achieved in Geneva and warned people not jump to conclusions. “Diplomacy takes time,” he explained, adding that he fully understood the concerns of America’s allies about the draft agreement. Kerry confirmed that the Arak heavy water plant was one of the items at issue.

God bless the French! This man has courage, ( and those behind him) a virtue woefully lacking in this American administration. This would have been a horrific blunder and set the world up for an inevitable nuclear Iran

    Viva la France

Don’t get any bright ideas about hiding from the Jews in the king’s palace, because if you decline to intervene in such a crucial hour,

Joseph, I was thinking of the French national anthem too when I saw that Debka report but don’t pop open the champagne just yet. THE PROBLEM IS STILL BIBI. His NEW plan is to now lobby Congress against a deal. It’s still the same obsession, that he can’t bomb Iran without outside permission, WHICH WILL NEVER COME. He literally can’t get his MIND around the idea that Israel is a sovereign state that has to take care of business whether the world likes it or not. Again, Obama will warn the Iranians and will try to thwart an Israeli attack. There were actually reports that part of the deal Obama had going with Iran included his promise to stop Israel from bombing Iran. Any fool knows that Israel is going to have to bomb Iran whether Obama likes it or not. THERE. WILL. BE. NO. PERMISSION. There is only one way to get past Obama interference and that is by starting the war with an EMP. One missile US intel can’t spot in time because it requires no prior mobilization to detect. Then Iran is paralyzed and Israel can bomb at will whether Obama and Iran like it or not. Bibi absolutely cannot get his MIND around the idea of using an EMP. WHAT WOULD PEOPLE SAY???!!! So he is off to get more people and more people and MORE people to pat him on the head and give little Bibi permission. Iran is MOMENTS away from installing its blindingly fast IR-2 centrifuges, after which it can make bomb grade uranium out of 3.5 percent enriched, enough for a bomb in TWO WEEKS. Instead of taking care of business Bibi has it all figured out. NOW he is going to get the world to love him for SURE! That’s what he needs, LOVE LOVE LOVE! Again, Chicken Bibi WILL NEVER USE THIS:

Bibi is thinking about his next LA SPEECH. He can’t bomb Iran unless he gives a good SPEECH about it and everyone in the world must throw garlands at him like he’s Caesar. Garlands for the conqueror. Otherwise FORGET it.

  7. David's avatar David Says:

If only people would throw garlands at me. Boy. THEN. I could really pick up girls. Bibi, are you aware that IRAN IS ABOUT TO GET THE FUCKING BOMB? Never mind. Don’t bomb Iran. First he has to win a fucking popularity contest.

National Public Radio quoted Fabius as warning against accepting at Geneva what he called “a fool’s deal” at this stage. Fabius told France-Inter Radio his nation does not want to be part of a “con game.” It’s pretty shameful that Bibi is busy auditioning for Miss Congeniality and has less guts than the French.

I’m going to play the role of defending the PM here,

Debka says he opened this morning’s cabinet session saying:

“I have no illusions. The agreement between the six powers and Iran will be signed. It allows Iran to avoid any commitment to dismantle a single centrifuge.

So props to him for knowing France won’t be able to stand up to Obama any longer than John Boehner.

France has given Israel the gift of another 11 days without having to openly defy the “world community”.

I expect him to make the best possible use of that window. I don’t expect him to openly announce what should be a surprise attack, nor would I want him to.

If he makes poor use of this 11 day window I won’t still be defending him.

  11. David's avatar David Says:

Thanks for that Debka.com link, Mark. Okay, so Bibi has no illusions and thinks the deal will be signed. What is he waiting for? If it’s Munich all over again he could bomb and say he had to do it because the world had abandoned a tough stand on Iran. But we all know that if the world does NOT sign the deal with Iran, they will STILL do nothing to stop Iran. Whether they make a deal or not, Obama caving in on Syria proves that he has no stomach for war even when WMDs are being used.

So what difference does it make if there’s a deal? Why wait? Either way Bibi has an excuse to bomb. He has an excuse to bomb RIGHT NOW. What we are seeing is the same sorry diplomacy charade with Iran that we have been seeing for YEARS. So why does Bibi need to wait to see what’s gonna be?

Moreover, I heard a report that Obama included in his suck up offer to Iran a promise to restrain Israel from a military strike. As I said, the ultimate way to get past US obstruction is to begin the war without a mobilization. Any Israeli mobilization would be seen by US sensors and they would warn Iran and maybe do other things to sabotage an Israeli strike. But EMP is just one lil ole missile. It’s just one quick whoosh, up, over and wammo. And all it does is cause an nationawide electrical outage that makes the rest of the war a piece of cake. EMP is one-stop-shopping for the complete paralysis of Iran and its counterstrike, except for some deeply buried sites. Anything that still needs to be destroyed can be done by jet since there will be almost no resistance.

Carl von Clausewitz, the military theorist, said the element of surprise is much greater in tactics, small scale operations, than in strategy, large scale operations. So logically, to get around Obama obstruction the best is to begin the war without a mobilization and just one quick surprise, surprise EMP missile. Then mobilize and continue bombing from there. It’s all so simple. So big deal, it causes a huge black out in Iran.

So there’s a black out in Iran.

The EMP could stop him before he could do any harm…

But seriously, Bibi just can’t get his MIND around the idea that he is going to have to do this without approval from the world. We’ve been hearing that Bibi can’t admit this and can’t admit that. We’ve been hearing that for AGES. And he never does a THING. I guarantee the world will scream about an Israeli attack no matter what, no matter how, no matter when. So what good does it do for Bibi to waste more time seeking LUV?

You think it’s an accident that this whole Chamberlainite deal at Geneva was whipped up for November 9-10, the anniversary of Kristallnacht, the start of the Holocaust? There is nothing innocent about any of this and no appeal to the “conscience of mankind” is going to make the world turn over a new leaf. Bibi will never do it. He will never bomb Iran. Now he is talking about winning over Congress. Please somebody love me, please somebody pat me on the head. Leftists are hurting my feelings! He is suffering burnout from all the catcalls from Israel haters and is desperate for LUV. All he can think of is schmoozing and making speeches. Somebody has to applaud him. Otherwise there’s no gas in his car.
