‘Israel will never acquiesce to nuclear arms in the hands of a rogue regime that promises to wipe us out’

Netanyahu’s full speech

Addressing the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “Ahmadinejad was a wolf in wolf’s clothing, Rohani is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. A wolf who thinks he can pull the wool over the eyes of the international community, but like everyone else, I wish we could believe Rohani’s words, but we must focus on Iran’s actions,” Netanyahu said.

He noted that the only way to peacefully stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons is to combine tough sanctions with a credible military threat and that if the State of Israel were forced to stand alone against Iran “it will stand alone.”

The prime minister noted he wished he could believe Iranian President Hassan Rohani, but does not. “Presidents of Iran have come and gone, but they’ve all served that same unforgiving creed, that creed that is espoused and enforced by the real power, Ayatollah Khomeini and today, Khamenei,” he said.

“Don’t let up the pressure (on Iran),” Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly, adding that the only deal that could be made with Iran’s Rohani was one that “fully dismantles Iran’s nuclear weapons program.”

The prime minister said the threat of a nuclear Iran posed a risk to the State of Israel: “We are an ancient people, we date back nearly 4,000 years. We’ve overcome adversity, and established a state in our ancestral homeland. Today our hope for a future is challenged by a nuclear Iran.”

He accused Iran of attempting to build nuclear weapons, and of attempting to lull the world by saying it’s nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.

As for the issue of a Palestinian state, the prime minister noted the Palestinians must recognize the Jewish State, the protection of which, he stressed, would stay the top priority in any negotiation with the Palestinians.

Allies divided

As Washington and Tehran seek detente, Israel and the United States remain divided over the Iranian nuclear issue, commentators say, despite efforts to play down their differences.

Washington has long insisted on sanctions and diplomatic efforts to pressure Tehran over its atomic program, which the West and Israel allege is aimed at producing a nuclear bomb and which Iran denies.

For its part, Israel has repeatedly advocated military force and has threatened unilateral strikes against the Islamic republic.

On Monday, US President Barack Obama met Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House, and said military force was still an option.

And Netanyahu suggested that, for now, he accepted US diplomatic efforts with Iran.

The White House meeting came only days after Obama’s historic telephone conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rohani spurred hopes for a breakthrough in the 30-year estrangement between Washington and Tehran.

But Monday’s seemingly reassuring dialogue belied acute differences between the United States and Israel over how to approach an Iran that has been reaching out to the Western world, observers said.

  1. Iran working on Nuclear Bomb, “We must be firm on Iran” Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu

Netanyahu laid out four things that must happen or Israel will attack. Most likely much less will be agreed to and a deal considered done. Netanyahu must then, based on what he just said order an attack on Iran. Iran will be ready and waiting and will justify its destructive response as defending itself against and aggressor who attacked and the world will agree. I will not quote Winston again at this point, but if I did you all know which quote I would use.

      John…

We got your doom and gloom message over and over.

You are clueless as to what Israel is capable of just as you were wrong about Netanyahu’s courage and determination.

      • John Prophet's avatar John Prophet Says:

I’m sorry you see my views as doom and gloom, I call them as I see them. Courage and determination are exhibited by actions not words. Time will tell, and as Louisiana Steve said, time is about up.

The historians will write the tale of this place in time, I’m just reflecting on the images I see.

We, the Israelis are living in this very place about which ”The historians will write the tale ” and we don’t live any tale; we are a nation of fighters and we are inviting anyone who is vitrioling us with its ”critics” to come and live first with us, here. And you reflect nothing. You are a broken mirror.

Have watched most of the speech and read the whole transcript. Impressive.
Though I hoped that he would expose Iran further by sharing more intelligence (maybe that’s what he did with Mr. Hope and Change with his intelligence dossier), he delivered the most important points.
    1. Israel will not allow Iran to get nukes.
    2. If Israel has to stand alone, it will still stand alone.
And he didi it in a strong manner, no waffling like Obozo.

Point 2 makes it clear that no matter how passionate “Mr. Hope and Change” and “Mr. Hope and Change 2.0″ dance the tango, he will turn out the music if he has to, no matter how much the audience love to see them dance and no matter how much they will be pissed off because he smashed the HiFi amplifier.
This point was even more important than point 1.
I believe him because unlike the US, which we are told can even survive Obavez, which I hope with all my heart is true, unlike the US Israel which is surrunded by hyenas waiting to devour her, cannot afford to show weakness, make empty threats, lose its credibility or lose its deterrence because strength, deterrence and credibility are the only things that guarantee Israels existence.
Israel is not like Switzerland which is surrounded by friendly, peaceful countries.
That is why for Bibi not only his political survival and his place in history is at stake but the survival of Israel.
That is why I believe him. Still I’m very worried that he miscalculates and waits too long. I really hope he knows what he is doing.

It’s possible that the credible use of force that Netanyahu says is critical for diplomacy to succeed is in fact being supplied by Israel itself. Hopefully with the sanctions biting, US/Russia pressure and Israel’s credible use of force Iran will come to see it’s hopeless and deal. If they do not, Netanyahu must make good on his promise. High stakes poker going on here and Israel may soon have to go all in.

A line out of one of my favorite movies comes to mind. Somehow, it seems relevent to me. This in no way is meant to diminish the seriousness of the situation with Iran….

Ten Bears to Josey Wales: It’s sad that governments are chiefed by the double-tongues. There is iron in your word of death for all Comanche to see. And so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron, it must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life… or death. It shall be life. (he takes his knife and cuts his hand. Josey does the same and they grasp each others hand.) So shall it be.

Hi guys, one of the things we wonder about what you guys think, is about the diplomatic situation that might happen if Israel waits to long, like we said it might or might not happen, but its something that hopefully people in charge of Israel have discussed.

We were thinking that what would happen if Iran and the UN agreed on some kind of arrangement where Iran could keep making and or keeping its nuclear enriched products or other arrangements that the UN and Iran would accept, but would be an existential threat to Israel and other muslim countries, which would cause the other muslim countries to get nuclear weapons.

So if such an agreement is reached by Iran and the UN, then Israel would be breaking international law by pre emptily attacking Iran, because according to international law, if Iran signed a deal with the UN, then Iran would be seen as complying with international laws, and Israel would be breaking international law.

So if a deal was reached with the UN and Iran, then if Israel kept threatening Iran, Iran could take the threats to the UN, or alternately they could just claim they are victims of Israeli aggression and play the victims role and beg for international protection from Israel.

Even if Iran is financially broke, they would be financially helped by their allies, and they would get the best quality and quantity of weapons like the s300, s400, or maybe s500 russian missile systems, and maybe other advanced russian weapons.

Because Israel would be going againts international law, they couldnt play the role of the victim, or get much sympathy to overcome the russian defence missiles, or other russian advanced weapons, and they probably wouldnt get their weapons resupplied by the US.

And if Iran would be seen as obeying international UN laws and Israel would be seen as breaking it by threatening, then russia might even become the protective big brother of Iran and threaten with Russian missiles and other forms of military retaliation, and the world would agree with Russias role as a protecter of Iran against a war mongering Israel.

We hope this wont happen, which is why Israel shouldnt do to much more threatening, because it would be seen as a war mongerer if Iran is complying with international law even if it doesnt meet Israels security needs.

So hopefully Israel will attack as soon as possible without to many more threats, or hardly any more threats, and must realise that already with all the threats theyve given, Iran might still be able to play the victim card even if Israel doesnt make any more threats.

And Iran might still be able to cry to the world to get help againts Israel, and get the Russian big brother protection, and also other muslim countries help, and either no one or hardly anyone will help Israel, and no one will resupply Israel with weapons.

So please let us know what anyone thinks, how this could be avoided, what can Israel do to survive.

Please dont go into to much detail, as some of our muslim or Russian enemies are also reading this blog.

    Thank you, Smiley

Netanyahu answered your question in his speech to the UN. Please watch it, it’s very straightforward.

Regardless of the rest of the world, Israel will operate ALONE if it has to to prevent Iran’s acquiring nuclear weapons.

      Period. End of paragraph….

    • Louisiana Steve's avatar Louisiana Steve Says:

Smiley, you mentioned something I’ve often wondered about. Are there those who do not wish us well who actually take the time to monitor this blog? Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of this possiblity? JW?

    • artaxes's avatar artaxes Says:

I take the liberty to paste here an excerpt of my article “Putin, America and the Grand Bargain”.

It deals not with exactly the same scenario but a very similar one, namely the situation how Israel can prevent a bad deal before it happens but it can also apply after a phony deal was concluded.

Putin, America and the Grand Bargain

“Israel our last player in this chess game is in great danger now because the circumstances are not favourable to an Israeli strike, because as it seems the US is falling for the Iranian bait and the world gets a false picture of a real chance to end the nuclear crisis and also because the US is, it seems, still opposed to an Israeli strike.
The US will make an appeasement deal with Iran or it will come finally to its senses and give the green light to an Israeli strike which I have very big difficulties to believe.
So, what can Israel do to change the game
The Iranians have always done their enrichment work and military experiments in secret. The existence of both Natanz and Fordow were only admitted by the Iranians when their existence was revealed by the intelligence services or dissidents.
I believe that there are more such secrets sites. The ISIS institute hinted at the existence of a possible secret laser enrichment site.
I also believe that Israel has good intelligence on the Iranian program because its existence depends on it. There are also plausible reports about Israeli human intelligence operating in Iran.
This leads me to believe that Israel knows about such secrets sites.
If that is indeed the case all Israel has to do is expose these sites. This would create several things. It would end the charade that is currently going on and create a strong sense of urgency. The Iranians would be totally exposed as liars who cannot be trusted. It would show that they are not serious. It would show that there is no point for the US or anyone negotiating with them. Most importantly it would show that they have crossed the rubicon already and that there is no more time left to waste. Such a move would increase diplomatic support and justification for an Israeli strike and also public support in the US and around the world.
After having taking back the initiative in the public arena Israel should immediately follow up with a military strike”.

      • Smiley's avatar Smiley Says:

Thank you Artaxes, this gives us a bit of an idea how Israel might with its strength and Gods help still be able to survive, but hopefully they wont leave it to late, or it might survive but with 90% of it with a third degree burn, which would also be really awful, and the survivors might find it uninhabitable.
