At least 24 Egyptian policemen were killed and three were injured in a blast in northern Sinai on Monday morning, medical and security sources stated.

Medical sources and officials said that suspected militants killed 24 army troops in an ambush on two police minibuses close to the town of Rafah near the Gaza border. Sources said four armed men stopped the police buses and forced the passengers to get out before shooting them on the spot.

Over recent months, since Mohamed Morsi was deposed as Egyptian president, the military has taken the bull by the horns and launched a large-scale operation against the terrorist training camps and centers of operation that dot the Sinai Peninsula.

The IDF has been preparing intensively for the eventuality of increased terrorism from Sinai. Egyptian deployments are subject to the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.

The Egyptian Air Forces has begun operations of retaliation against jihadists in the Sinai Peninsula (Rotter), as a result of their last terrorist action against the military forces of Egypt.

We know now that 25 Egyptian policemen were murdered in cold blood in Sinai by Islamists and were, in fact, ”executed” after been ordered to lay down on the ground. Kol Israel reshet bet, radio Israel brought those tragic news.

Former Mossad director Danny Yatom has just finished his analysis on the same radio station, before a couple of minutes. We are learning from this interview that the Egyptian army is highly decided to clean Sinai, especially after the murder of the 25 Egyptian policemen in cold blood. We also understand that Sinai has turned into an Al Qaeda heaven, situation that didn’t pop up today but its the result of many years of neglect by Egypt, even since the Mubarak rule. In those times, the Egyptian decision makers thought that all that ”Islamic trash” will be turned to Israel direction, only. Today, they are understanding how wrong they were and have started to fix the things in Sinai. Its not an easy task, though, and Israel will have to give its part on it for the Sinai operations to succeed.
