Putin visit to Cairo impending. El-Sisi moves to outlaw Brotherhood. US in blocking mode
Putin visit to Cairo impending. El-Sisi moves to outlaw Brotherhood. US in blocking mode.
President Vladimir Putin is set to visit to Cairo – possibly next Wednesday Aug. 7 – on the advice of Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan, debkafile reports exclusively. The prince landed in Moscow Wednesday, July 31 without warning. He told Putin that Saudi King Abdullah was in favor of the Russian president going to Cairo as soon as possible and did not rule out the visit occasioning the signing of a large Russian arms sale to Egypt, bankrolled by the oil kingdom.
Putin will find Egypt’s strongman, Defense Minister Gen. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, in full cry with his next steps against the Muslim Brotherhood, after unseating its president in a coup on July 3.
El-Sisi is holding urgent discussions with the heads of the judiciary to have the movement outlawed. The unwritten pact between the generals and judicial system is the most potent political force in Egypt today, which the Brotherhood will find hard to beat.
The army’s first action will be to break up the round-the-clock protests which tens of thousands of supporters of the ousted president Mohamed Morsi have been staging in Cairo for the past month for his release and reinstatement.
Wednesday, July 31, their sit-in was ruled a threat to national security. For the next step, soldiers of the Republican Guard division, whose normal duties are guarding the president, have been issued with police uniforms for a more acceptable appearance when they clear protesters off the streets of the capital any day now.
The prospect of a Russian presidential visit has fired Gen. El-Sisi with redoubled energy and impetus for his crackdown on the Brotherhood.
For Putin, this will be his second trip to Cairo; his first took place in 2005 when Hosni Mubarak was president. He will play it to the hilt as a platform to show the world, and especially Arab Muslims, that he alone of the world’s five leading powers is openly committed to fighting radical Islam and ready to assist any Arab leader sharing this commitment.
He will also try and use his Cairo visit for much needed image repairs over his backing for Bashar Assad and Hizballah terrorist fighters in their savage war against a rebellion led by the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda affiliates. Putin hopes to come away from Cairo as champion of the war on radical Islam in two important Arab countries and the most reliable ally of forces for moderation.
His next stop around mid-August is Tehran. This will be hard to explain away as a gesture of support of a moderate regime, but with some fast footwork, the Russian leader will use the double exposure to underscore Moscow’s solid presence at the power centers of the Middle East – in striking contrast to Washington.
The Obama administration is already seething over the Kremlin’s decision to grant the fugitive former US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden temporary asylum in Russia for escaping trial in the States on a charge of espionage.
Even more painful knocks are in store for Barack Obama’s Middle East policy and prestige when Egypt’s military strongman proceeds to outlaw the Muslim Brotherhood movement in defiance of his wishes and Putin turns up in Cairo with more provocations.
Secretary of State John Kerry, aware of the shoals ahead for Washington, sent European Union foreign policy executive Catherine Ashton to Cairo earlier this week, followed by German Foreign Minister Guido Westerweller Friday, Aug 2, to try and hold El-Sisi’s hand.
When they got nowhere, Kerry assigned US Undersecretary of State for the Middle East William Burns with paying a second visit to Cairo since the coup. He has an appointment to meet interim Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy Saturday, Aug. 3, and is waiting for one with the defense minister.
Burns came away from his first trip to Cairo empty-handed.

If this is correct , what will be the reaction from obama , loosing influence in the middle east by the day seems the new mantra now for the USA., what is cooking here.
Shifting panels., very interesting,
Opposition to the USA or just power play to get better cards in the hand for the negotiation table.
August 3, 2013 at 2:31 PM
One can think : ”What a strange move, this USA closing of all its Middle East embassies. What is going on here? It is because of a specifically warning? In this case, one doesn’t have to close all of his business, but, lets say one or two… . If it is a general info warning then, what will be next time? Once again Obama will close his business all around the Middle East? It cant be serious. This is not it. Its something else.”
We think that something big and grave is standing behind this USA decision to close its embassies around the region. Lets see, what it can be?
Our guess is that a very big military event is ready to happen and Obama simply doesn’t want his men to be hurt in the aftermath retaliations which will surely follow. This action of him is, to say the least, hysterical, because to close a l l of the embassies, all over the middle east, Israel included, its an un precedent step; and, my friends, its not because some birdie whispered near his ear about Al Qaeda threats. That big bird told him that something big is in cooking and he should shut down his business here, before it will be too late.
We, from our point of view, are hoping for the best and may God be with the good guys ( the Israelis, if I wasn’t enough clear until now ).

Our guess is that a very big military event is ready to happen
Possible, but in what way ?
August 3, 2013 at 2:48 PM
Luis is Israel in defcon 2 status ?
August 3, 2013 at 2:33 PM
…ah, and don’t forget: You heard – and read – about that here, for the first time.
August 3, 2013 at 2:37 PM
Luis I am thinking the same thing, they are also closing consulates in Israel and West Bank as I understand.
Something planned for Sunday night into Monday?
Lots of chatter about an Israeli strike in Homs and Damascus today.
This is the final week of Ramadan, if my source turns out to be right I might freak 🙂
August 3, 2013 at 3:14 PM
You mean USA attack iran ?
August 3, 2013 at 3:15 PM
I honestly don’t know. Something regarding Syria perhaps
August 3, 2013 at 3:41 PM
I,am confused also after reading this Debka story
I can not see a logic in a attack on Iran at the moment others than from the USA whit a direct confrontation whit Russia,
An Israel attack will interfere whit the support from Russia to Egypt combating the mo bro,s and the Saudi,s , they do not like if Israel attack Iran, but love it when the USA do it..
I smell a smart play from Saudi to force the USA to take action.
If obama won,t take action, his mo bro,s are finished whit the support from Russia and Saudi, loosing influence in the middle east.
An attack on assad would be the same as on Iran, or Iran and Russia has to trow assad under the bus, and that is something i can not believe.
USA attacking Egypt to reinstall morsi is a way to far for me , i can not oversee fully the complications whit that.
It would be a brzezinski type of shit.
For the moment i see it as a power play , whit a risk covering if it go,s very bad, lets say a prelude to something like ww III
August 3, 2013 at 3:48 PM
What you read in the media is only a small portion of what is happening behind the scenes.
Iran is close to being out of time.
Chemical weapons in Syria need to be captured or destroyed.
The west are not going to let Assad stay in power.
A massacre may well happen shorty in Egypt.
August 3, 2013 at 3:46 PM
USA wont attack Iran. USA wont attack anyone. USA is trying to contain the future damage which will occur once a big military event should take place, event in which many people in the middle east region will be hurt.
August 3, 2013 at 3:06 PM
The email that I received some time ago which I posted here pointed to the final week of Ramadan as something ‘big’.
Also talk of Iran
August 3, 2013 at 3:23 PM
Not only an Israeli action is possible and can be the cause of this ”embassies panic”. The Egyptian Army action which is to be expected very soon against the Brotherhood can also be a source of trouble for the western powers and this is the reason that they tried so hard to show to the islamists how ok they are; however, that wont save the west if a grand slaughter will take place all over the Egypt. France and Germany also closed their embassies ( France24, news).
August 3, 2013 at 3:47 PM
But will the USA or NATO interfere ??
August 3, 2013 at 4:15 PM
NATO might intervene in Syria if extraordinary events will happen there.
August 3, 2013 at 4:24 PM
Define extraordinary events svp
Chemical weapons used by the rebels or by assad ??
Would attacking assad by the NATO means a confrontation whit Russia and Iran ??
could you see that happening whit out the support of the USA ??
August 3, 2013 at 4:27 PM
Chemical weapons being used.
Chemical weapons falling into wrong hands.
Attacks against other nations.
August 3, 2013 at 6:22 PM
1.Mass use of war gas may induce a NATO massive intervention.
2.Middle range missiles fired in Israel direction – with or without causalities – will cause a brutal and incisive IDF intervention, finishing the Assad rule there.
3.Regarding the ”wrong hands”, there is already ”bad” weapons into too many wrong hands there, but not in large quantities. Should be a change regarding this issue, Israel will again intervene, as usual, in a delicate form.
So, Defencetoday is generally right in his answer to Joop.

August 3, 2013 at 3:49 PM
What’s everyone’s money on in the guess of a major military event?
August 3, 2013 at 3:53 PM
Well there’s certainly a fight going on between the sides in Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood won’t go quietly.
I still feel like the bigger question is when the entire region will blow up as the Iran crisis deepens.
August 3, 2013 at 3:55 PM
The Egyptian Army showdown with the Brothers; thousands might be killed and that will be a major act of war against the islam; harsh reactions can be expected all over the region – and even in Europe – as ”signs of protest” against spilling muslim blood.
This is why the Europeans – the baroness included – tried so hard to lead to some negotiations between the Egyptian army and the islamists. They failed.
August 3, 2013 at 4:06 PM
none of you are even close listen to defense the eu and usa are going to look after there own interests no one cares about iran, that’s Israels problem whats coming is so much bigger
August 3, 2013 at 4:04 PM
It look,s like it, but i,am not sure enough to put money on it.
I,am to ill informed to see trough it
Perhaps there is a deal between Israel , Russia , Egypt and Saudi.
But will stay obama on the side line ??
August 3, 2013 at 4:33 PM
and i wouldn’t bank on any time scale as we know where the email came from and why it was sent, there is a question over it the only thing any of us are sure its its something very big,as states are spending big money preparing and i mean big money,as for obama he is part of the problem not the solution
August 3, 2013 at 4:06 PM
The news is reporting that the terror threat is centered in Yemen, European embassies closing, but only the US are closing 22/23 embassies in the ME and North Africa.
August 3, 2013 at 4:08 PM

August 3, 2013 at 4:48 PM
Is there a LERTCON status
August 3, 2013 at 4:59 PM
Defcon 2+1 full alert were toast lol
August 3, 2013 at 4:35 PM
I hope that you guys are right.
I don’t think that an action by the Egyptian military would create such unrest all around the middle east (and Yemen) that it warrants such measures by the US and others.
Also I just heard at the Radio that there are terror warnings for France.
This points to a rather seismic event in the region.
Putin’s visit to Egypt makes sense as he is exploiting the vacuum and the alienation of the Egyptians and the Arabs created by Obavez.
But his visit makes more sense if there is an attack on Syria or Iran imminent.
In both cases it will be a serious blow if not the end for Assad.
This would mean that Russia needs a new ally in the region and Egypt is the perfect candidate.
Remember, Egypt was Russia’s ally before the Camp David peace.
As far as I know Ramadan ends on Aug. 8 this year.
If something happens, my bet is on Aug. 9 for reasons I won’t discuss here.
August 3, 2013 at 4:45 PM
You are saying that Russia trows Iran and assad under the bus ?
MM, possible
In a comment here above i stated
Perhaps there is a deal between Israel , Russia , Egypt and Saudi.
But my question is still open.
What will be the reaction of the USA or NATO, will they accept loosing influence in the middle east ??
So not, what will happen ??
August 3, 2013 at 5:02 PM
No deal. Just accepting realities.
August 3, 2013 at 5:07 PM
Wat ever
but do you have an answer on my question.
What will be the reaction of the USA or NATO, will they accept loosing influence in the middle east ??
So not, what will happen ??
August 3, 2013 at 5:25 PM
As I’m used to get non-answer answers from you I just say this:
Are they REALLY loosing influence?
August 3, 2013 at 4:46 PM
if you use that logic it will be ether the 6th or 9th look into the significance of those dates,go back to 1945 and 6

August 3, 2013 at 4:43 PM
This is interesting a friend of mine just said that he had overheard in the last few days that assads NBCs had got into the wrong hands with delivery systems and warheads and he stressed NBCs rather than chems
August 3, 2013 at 5:04 PM
Defcon status is 5 , no any treat at all !!!
Please do not give misinformation
August 3, 2013 at 5:07 PM
Only the military knows defcon status, so its only guess work from anyone else. Unless they make it public.

August 3, 2013 at 5:25 PM
Yeah fake site with no links to the military
August 3, 2013 at 5:39 PM
Just getting back to this i think people are working themselves up here for no reason, all of this sounds like psy opps you fear is being played on the secret world is always like this, the public rarely get a glimpse, the most c readable piece of information is actually that some of Assads NBCs have been lifted, and that Al Qaida may be about to use them, not everyone’s worst fear remember you do it to yourselves
August 3, 2013 at 5:58 PM
Justice…
I couldn’t agree more. The hysteria I’m seeing here is utterly nonexistent in Israel.
Why can’t the embassy closures actually be because of intelligence on Al Qaeda?
Neither Syria nor Egypt are likely to drag the world into the conflagration being spoken of here.
Keep your eyes on the ball (there’s only one!).
There’s a reason this site is about Israel/Iran….
August 3, 2013 at 5:59 PM
Get lost, read your own comments here.
August 3, 2013 at 6:08 PM
sorry joop its in context that’s why i said earlier not to sweat, the Russians regularly go on standby so does nato its all day to day stuff, the point i was making is now is one of those moments were if someone miscalculates then things could go bad its unlikely, this is chess not roulette
August 3, 2013 at 6:32 PM
JW, yes it’s all pure speculation on our part and maybe we are over the top but I can see not much difference with your speculation based on the release of some 100 ‘Palestinian’ prisoners.
August 3, 2013 at 6:03 PM
But you guys have the connections if i read your comments.

August 3, 2013 at 6:32 PM
I totally agree with Joseph regarding the purpose and the reasons of this site but I was stroked by this unusual, grand scale, un precedent measures taken by the USA, shutting down its embassies around the region. What kind of attack/threat Al Qaeda can produce for such extraordinary measures to be put in place? Because of the aspect of the American measures, I draw the conclusion that they are afraid that masses of people, all around the middle east will be triggered to attack the embassies, in different and many places. And what kind of events can trigger such attacks? This is the big question that we are trying to answer here to.

Luis…
Occam’s razor…. i.e. “when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better.”
Remember Benghazi? Do you really think Obama can afford another one?
Any more questions?
August 3, 2013 at 6:58 PM
I realy do not know, but obama,s al Qaeda is nearly dead and than this.
