Report: Israel increases number of prisoners to be freed before talks start | JPost | Israel News.
( My gut feeling is that this otherwise inexplicable capitulation on the part of Netanyahu to unacceptable demands of the PA means only one thing. The attack on Iran is happening VERY soon. Bear in mind, I’ve always been wrong in the past on this issue. – JW )

Israel has decided to raise the number of prisoners that it will release from 82 to 104 as a condition for the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table Israel Radio reported on Saturday.
Israel increased the number of people to be freed after the Palestinians threatened that they would not return to the opening meeting of talks that is scheduled to take place next week in Washington according to the report that cited a source with knowledge of the negotiations.
Some of the prisoners to be released were Israeli prisoners that in the past Israel had refused to free, according to the source.
The decision to release Israeli prisoners as goodwill gestures to the Palestinians contravenes Israeli policy not to allow the Palestinian Authority to intervene in Israeli-Arab affairs, the report stressed.
Ami Palmor, head of the pardons department of the Justice Ministry told the Knesset Interior and Environment Committee last week, that the 82 prisoners Israel intended to release were all Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza who were sentenced for their crimes before the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1993.
It was revealed in the Knesset briefing that all of the prisoners to be released had blood on their hands and were serving life sentences.
Abbas says Israel to make prisoner announcement
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said “happy news” about the Palestinian prisoners would be announced Sunday, Israel Radio reported quoting the Xinhua News Agency.
“You should follow the Israeli media tomorrow, because there will be happy announcements with regard to the prisoners,” Abbas said at a press conference in Ramallah on Saturday.
Abbas confirmed that the peace talks would be officially resumed on Tuesday and that former US ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk was chosen by the White House as the US representative to the talks.
To those Palestinians opposed to the resumption of talks he said, “There were also those who were opposed to the move to seek UN recognition and as at it turned out that opposition was unfounded.” Abbas was referring to the Palestinian Authority’s 2012 decision to seek non-member observer status at the UN.
Ben Hartman contributed to this report.

I must say that the fact that Netanyahu ”gave up” so easily regarding the convicts issue is saying two things:
1.Bibi is forcing the palestinians to play by keeping itself in the game with this gambit and
2. Mr.Wouk might be right this time; one cannot help but to think that israelis, once they are in the ”peace process”, are strengthening their international positions, USA included. ”This talks are in our strategic interests”, said Bibi. Now, nobody can say ”israelis are warmongers” if any operation in Iran should be started.
Now, what the world is supposed to say is: ”you see, israelis want peace talks, they even are making concessions, but in the iranian issue they simply cannot live with that.” Even that nobody will say those words, that will be the general atmosphere when the israeli jets will finish the iranian job. Bibi, very cleverly this time, is using these talks to show the entire world how nice he is. And if the ”bloody” palestinians will fu@k those talks, than nobody should blame the israelis this time.

Luis…
The Palestinians have always fu@ked the talks and Israel has always been blamed anyway. Think of all the other “confidence building” concessions Israel has made in the past. The Palestinians have happily accepted each one as another slice of the “salami.”
Netanyahu need not make these current concessions to Obama, the EU or the PA. In fact there’s no serious pressure on him to do so from any important quarter.
So why’s he doing it?!
My assumption is that the Iran attack is already scheduled. The concessions will accomplish three goals under this scenario:
!. A temporary lifting of the “warmonger Netanyahu” meme from all but the most dedicated anti Israel/Semitic parties. Useful in limiting the inevitable blow-back.
2. A support for General Sissi’s policy of undercutting and marginalizing Hamas while taking back the Sinai.
3. A peg for Abbas to hang his hat on when the new balance of power in the Middle East results from a successful Israeli strike on Iran.
With the “Arab spring” turning against Islamists in Egypt and Tunisia, the beginning of the end of the Islamitization of Turkey, and most importantly the end of the Iran-Syria-Hiz axis, what hope will the PA have of getting a better deal down the road?
This way, Abbas can claim “victory” in the midst of the massive Arab/Islam disaster taking place everywhere OTHER than Israel and the PA.
On the other hand, if no strike is contemplated, making these concessions while facing the challenge of “containing” a nuclear Iran makes no sense whatsoever.
I know Bibbi. He’s a smart and rational actor. If he’s making these concessions I am forced to conclude that the strike is coming very soon.
I know it’s not conventional wisdom, but for the first time EVER I can envision an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict if the scenario described above actually takes place.
Think of the gratitude of all the Arab states (excepting Syria) to Israel for removing the threat of an imperial Iran. If Israel and the PA are working towards a deal, they may even refrain from condemning Israel for saving their skins!
The only losers as a result of the strike would be the US and Russia. Russia for failing to maintain Iran/Syria as a thorn in the West’s side. The US for failing to protect its Arab allies and leaving the job to little Israel.
Think about it…
How much influence would the US have once the Iranian threat is removed and the Arab states have a new military ally in their former enemy, Israel.
Whew…!
I repeat, I’ve always been wrong before. Like before, there may well be some secret motivating factors none of us know about.

The strike will have to be delivered with the speed of the lightning and the power of a mighty earth quake. Anything bellow that will leave Israel exposed, weak and vulnerable.
Iran nuclear program is not the only issue here, anymore. We are talking about missile silos, the Iranian elite troops assets, the Iranian fleet and the strategic and tactical Iranian capabilities. It has to be something like ’67 Six Days War blitzkrieg style for all the Islamic World to get the message: you can terrorize the world, you can kill the USA ambassador in Libya and get out of it unpunished, you can kill innocent ”infidel” people all over the world in the name of ”your” God – I’m not sure Allah is listening to them anymore – so, you can do all those things and more, but one thing you should not do: ” Don’t Mess With The Zohan ”.
…And for all those who still didn’t get it, please don’t mess with The Israel Army.

The usa is never going to attack iran its as simple as that, unless iran attacks the usa, there is no legal precedent for the usa or nato, you have to do your own dirty work and not hide behind our flags, when you do attack and if iran then attacks any nato allies then there is a legal precedent to attack iran,in other words nato has your back you know this full well JW you are a lawyer

Personally I believe Israel has scheduled dates for an Iran attack several times now. The thing is every time one of those dates approaches they postpone it.
Nothing is set in stone until the war actually begins.
That being said, it’s reached the point where I’m uncertain Israel is still operationally capable of doing it. Therefore if they are still going to try, it surely has to be soon.

This is as absurd as Israel’s apology to Turkey, so it could be explained the same way.
Israel’s apology to Turkey. An explanation.

JW,
I’ve expected the Iran war for a long time as well now.
While anything is possible, it’s really hard for me to picture Netanyahu standing at the UN lectern in late September giving yet another speech without Iran having been dealt with.
What could he possibly say to be taken seriously if he lets the deadline slip yet again?
We should look ahead to the 2 new moons before then on August 7 and September 5.

To Justice : It was Israel we meant previously to deliver the blow; read carefully the lines. Nobody here is even thinking that Obama is capable to let his dog out, let alone the fact that he wont initiate any conflict, anymore. And you know what? Good for him, we don’t give a sh!t about that. We don’t care about Obama, here, at home. Israel will do what it has do.

Justice….
Why do you think this is anything more than the pure nonsense it appears to be?
There are REAL issues facing us all.
BHO is indeed a horrible president. A KGB agent?
Gimmee a break!

Is it a bit embarrassing for you jw after all you helped get him elected, just discount it,i remember not so long back a similar thing turned out to be true,a lot of what you post on here is totally speculative and unfounded, theirs as much for as against, you definably in the dark as afar as iran and the rest of it goes
July 27, 2013 at 10:15 PM
Justice….
Taking pot shots at little old me? Enjoy….
Doesn’t change a goddamned thing.
Instead of worrying about the KGB, how ’bout responding to what Luis and I wrote about Israel’s capitulation to the PA in order to get talks going.
That’s something that isn’t in the least bit “speculative” and is equally as mystifying as what the Russians and Obama are doing.
We gotta focus on what matters NOW.
July 27, 2013 at 10:53 PM
Am not taking a pot shot at you,i am making the point that this is all bigger than just Israel there is much none of us know,Now is Israels capitulation is the sensible thing to do,as we all know the truth Obama has you by the balls, its the clever move you cant lose, you ether gain peace which if that happens i will eat my hat but i hope you do if you dont you will look make victims.you cant lose……now take a look at this PLA killer

“Metal Storm” is amazing. Don’t know if Israel has it.

To Justice : The plethora of speculations those websites are rising is, I should say, very highly speculative – and this is, may be, an understatement. To talk now, in 2013 about the Obama phenomenon is almost like it was for those back in 1963 to try to understand who and why killed Kennedy. Those subjects are heavy, we don’t have all the facts – in fact, we have only a few – and, in the cognition void who was created is entering the speculation which is higher as we know less facts. Is scandalizing, is exciting, is may be laying or exaggerating but that’s all it is. I am with Mr. Wouk on this one: lets first deal with the actual problems we have before we will want to ”go crazy” in weird subjects.
