In a future Middle East war, Israel’s Galilee region would be targeted before Lebanon’s capital of Beirut, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said in an annual speech broadcasted on Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV network on Friday.

Amidst a European Union debate on whether to list Hezbollah as a terrorist entity, Nasrallah insisted during his live speech that the only fault of the group is protecting the Lebanese people from their “Zionist enemy.”

During an annual Ramadan gathering organized by the Islamic Resistance Support Organization, Nasrallah added that the US would never protect Lebanon since their loyalty lies with Israel, and that they would abandon any ally “for the sake of Israel.”

According to Al-Manar, he also said in his speech that it is a “misfortune” to believe that Israel no longer poses a threat to Lebanon.

“Let’s, as Lebanese, discuss the threats we are facing from the Israeli enemy, and find solutions for them,” he reportedly said.

The only means of protection against Israeli forces are “self-dependence and ensuring means of power which deter the enemy,” Nasrallah said during the Al-Manar broadcast, adding that Israel’s greed has no end.

If the world was not targeting Hezbollah, that would mean their effect on Israel would be minimal, the group’s chief urged during his speech.

He concluded his annual televised message, assuring the Lebanese public, “the resistance is targeted because it is fighting the Israeli enemy.”
