British police are arresting people in the middle of the night if they have made racist or anti-Muslim comments on Twitter following the murder of a soldier by two Muslims in Woolwich, London.

Three men have so far been taken into custody for using Twitter and Facebook to criticize Muslims.

In the Woolwich attack, Lee Rigby, a drummer in the Royal Regiment of Fusliers, was run down in a car and then hacked and stabbed to death by two men with knives and a cleaver. They told a man video recording the scene that it was vengeance for the killings of Muslims by the British Army.

One man has been charged with “malicious communications” on Facebook, the Daily Mail reports.

Two others have been arrested under the Public Order Act on suspicion of inciting racial or religious hatred. The police are now arresting people based on mere speech in social media, a detective said in a statement to the press:

‘The men were arrested under the Public Order Act on suspicion of inciting racial or religious hatred. Our inquiries into these comments continue.

‘These comments were directed against a section of our community. Comments such as these are completely unacceptable and only cause more harm to our community in Bristol.

‘People should stop and think about what they say on social media before making statements as the consequences could be serious.’

The arrests come at the behest of British Muslims, who fear a backlash against them following the death of Rigby, The New York Times says:

The police and Muslim groups have said that there have been anti-Muslim episodes in many parts of the country, the most common involving derogatory messages on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

A number of arrests have been made, with criminal charges being leveled in some cases under laws against inciting racial or religious hatred, and Muslim community leaders have reported rising concern among the estimated 2.5 million Muslims in Britain.

Two men were detained in the middle of the night after they expressed anger at Muslims on Twitter. The Independent quotes police as saying:

“We began inquiries into the comments and at around 3.20am two men, aged 23 and 22, were detained at two addresses in Bristol.

“The men were arrested under the Public Order Act on suspicion of inciting racial or religious hatred. Our inquiries into these comments continue.”

Its perfect understandable why they are doing that.(those arrests, I mean). They are all fearing by uprisings from the part of the muslims, uprisings which will spark anyway. The London Spring is in developing.

If a newspaper printed statements like..” find your local mosque and burn it down….kill all muslms…..spit on them when you see them in streets..all muslim women are whores.” The editor off those papers would be arrested for incitement to committ a crime.

Why should facebook or twitter users be immune to that kind of sanction? The people who post such terrible stuff are usually members of hate groups and they must be stopped. So when someone follows these calls and hacks a muslim to death on the streets of London, then what is the difference?

Freedom of speech yes! Freedom to incite hate and violence has no place in a civilised society.

Funny, I don’t recall any Muslims being hacked to death on the streets of London recently.

Plenty of Muslims are without indictment, trial or verdict assassinated by US terror drones in countries which with the US is not even at war

Why not being consistent and ban the quran also?
The unholy quran is the book that calls muslims to kill apostates and ‘infidels’. It also justifies slavery, rape, the inhuman treatment of women etc.
If that’s not hate speech I don’t know what is.
While some speech on twitter MAY cause violence it is proven beyond any doubt that the quran DOES cause hate and violence.
One of these pieces of excrement who killed the soldier even cites a specific verse (sura al tauba) that compelled him to kill British soldiers.
So, do you demand that the quran shall be banned?
If you don’t demand the banning of the quran, I can’t take you seriously but I would be justified to suspect that you are either a coward, a hypocrite or worse.

The media took great care not to tell us what this alleged hate speech was. I saw nowhere any specific statements cited.
Have you any references for the statements you cite or did you just made them up?

Appeasement never ends well. The British police would do well to look into the religious incitement inside the mosques that bring about these deadly terror attacks, rather than looking to scapegoat innocent civilians.

ARREST ANJEM CHOUDARY, OR WE WILL!

  5. Jason Smithely's avatar Jason Smithely Says:

Agreed, Choudary can say what he likes and encite hate and crime himself and yet he’s never arrested and is allowed to walk the streets and is protected by our country. We do the same on Facebook and Twitter and our backwards country have us arrested. The police and governments of this country are simpletons without a clue. This country suffers the worst form of racism and that’s racism against it’s own people. These extremists can say what they like about this country and it’s citizens and they’re protected, if any of the rest of us have the nerve to do the same against them, we’re persecuted, arrested, accused of being racist and fascist and thrown into prison at the tax payer’s expense. Even the extremist “captain Hook” Abu Hamza al-Masri was protected by this country until late last year. The police are suppose to be here to protect us, yet they persecute us at any given turn in order to make it appear as though they’re actually “being useful” when in fact they’re the exact opposite.
