France indicates support for Palestinian UN vote – Israel News, Ynetnews

France on Thursday indicated it would support efforts by the Palestinians to secure a diplomatic upgrade at the United Nations, a decision likely to boost Palestinian efforts as it seeks greater international recognition.
Frustrated that their bid for full UN membership last year failed amid U.S. opposition in the U.N. Security Council, Palestinians have launched a watered-down bid for recognition as a non-member state, similar to the Vatican’s UN status.(Reuters)

Reminds me of Fareed Zacharias columns in Newsweek towards French position versus Gulf War…which should be reconsidered according to the achievements In Irak : an Iran and Syrian friendly Iraki government easing Iran ´s hegemonic and nuclear plans !
It appears US Neocon hawks did a bad favour to their Israeli friends …
To remind you of french history:
France fought wars for centuries against its neighbours and beyond, long before Napoléon , and lost millions of soldiers against Germany in WWI in horrendous conditions comparable to Iran-Irak trench war, except for the age of the kids sent to death .
WWII only 21 years later , prepared in WW1 fashion, let no chance against the nazis, and the average frenchmen were indeed wrongly relieved to have a WWI “hero” dealing with the invader, rather than enduring so soon again high losses.
Since then France fought several colonial wars ending with high losses in Indochina and Algeria , gaining by the way an intimate knowledge of dirty war fighting…
These colonial wars have substantially led to anti war feelings, and subsequent naturalized immigration from african origin have led governments – not only left oriented – to awkward dealing with third world dealing .
French soldiers were favourably considered for their proficiency in Afghanistan, no surrender monkeys, even if their earlier recall was decided by both right and left-leaning governments because of a feeling of necessity to hand over their security to the Aghans themselves.
