In a sign of extreme desperation, Hamas fires an inaccurate missile at Jerusalem and risks destroying “Islam’s third holiest sites.” Hamas claims to be an Islamist organization. Really? Even Saddam didn’t risk firing at Jerusalem.
In their feeble attempt to “scare” Israel (still clueless about whom they’re fighting) they have handed Israel the biggest public relations coup possible. One that will actually speak to the Islamic world ! – JW

Two things…Hamas may be in a panic because they are having trouble rallying the international community against Israel. Secondly, I have to disagree with you about ethics JW. Wars were never won by ethical behavior. Only the most savage behavior wins. The will to fight must be removed from Gaza and this cannot be accomplished through ethical behavior. I know it’s a noble cause to remain ethical but when Israeli casualties begin to rise (heaven forbid), savagery will rule and must prevail to stop the slaughter. This is the same cancer that is eating away at the US military and got us into decades of low level fighting, slowly mounting death tolls, and all that worthless-yet-costly nation building bullshit. I do not want to see another rocket fall upon Israel, nor do I want to see you and your friends become casualties. Having gotten to know you and your community, I take it personally now more that ever. I want this to end for good. To hell with the international community. Let Hamas worry about getting their support in light of the insanity they impose on others for not following their ways. They deserve each other.

Great point. When we invaded Afghanistan I thought about Alexander the Great and how he failed, how the Russians failed and what their rules of engagement were–if it moves kill it. Then I thought about what our rules of engagement would be like and I knew that we would not win. For an airstrike or artillery support the Italians had to make a call to the defense ministry in Rome for an OK.
Our problems as Americans is that we are not Romans with the will to kill a lot of people, destroy cities and make people really suffer, in order to get order. We are also not the British who were good colonizers–we are terrible at it since at heart we feel American style democracy will work for everyone. We also believe in the rules of war. As Sherman said, “All war is Hell.” Southerners know this very well–the DC folks need to realize that a glimpse of hell now will save all of us from an eternity in a Islamist hell later. Southerners also know that when dealing with a snake like a Cottonmouth–very poisonous, with a nasty neuro-toxin–you have to kill it before it gets you, your dog or your neighbor. DC et. al. need to learn this.

Hamas is in disarray, its master is dead and its long range missiles depots were destroyed. If no serious international diplomatic initiative will ocur then the ground invasion of Gaza its to be expected.In this case, the sky is the limit .

As an American, I am ashamed to say it but I feel that Obama will throw Israel under the bus. The easiest thing for him to do is cut off the supply of spares for Israeli F-15’s and F-16’s, while I am sure there are large stores they will run out and the most potent long range strike force Israel has will be forced into a defensive mode. If this happens Israel must go into survival mode, take back the Sinai, get ready to get rid of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, assert sovereignty of its gas fields, establish a base or basing rights in Cyprus and finally go to a launch on warning nuclear deterrent posture–meaning–if a missile comes over the horizon or a hostile plane invades Israels airspace then Cairo, Tehran, Ankara, Beirut or Damascus becomes a wasteland.
