The United States has no intention of joining in a preemptive Israeli strike on Iran and expects the Islamic Republic to refrain from attacking US targets in the case of such an attack, senior Washington officials told their Iranian counterparts, according to a report in Yedioth Ahronoth on Monday.

In recent days, senior administration officials reportedly sent messages to Iran, through diplomats from two European states, addressing the possibility that Israel would launch a unilateral strike and establishing that the US expects Iran to not draw it into a conflict by firing on American army bases and aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf.

Monday’s report came amid widespread debate over the level of coordination between Israel and the US on halting Iran’s nuclear program, which despite assurances by US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro on Sunday that the relationship is as good as ever, appeared to be showing cracks.

While Israel has warned that the Iranians are quickly approaching weapons capability and that the use of force must be seriously considered, the US says sanctions and international diplomacy must be given more time to work.

Highlighting the disagreement between the two countries on the use of force were reports of a scaling-down of joint US-Israel missile defense exercises in October, and public comments by the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey, who said last Thursday that he did not want to be “complicit” in an Israeli attack on Iran.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted at criticism of the US position on Iran, telling ministers at the weekly Cabinet meeting that the international community has failed to send a clear message to Iran regarding its nuclear program. Netanyahu said that while international sanctions have harmed Tehran, they haven’t done “anything to stall the progress of the nuclear program.”

On Saturday, former minister Tzachi Hanegbi said the United States is not determined to halt Iran from getting a bomb and this week’s IAEA report, which indicated that Iran has expanded its capacity for uranium enrichment, granted Israel even more legitimacy to strike Iran on its own.

Meanwhile, the New York Times reported on Monday that the Obama Administration is installing new curbs against Iran as a way to calm Israel and keep Jerusalem from launching an attack, asserting that included in these measures may be a declaration of American “red lines.”

This last ” scoop ” from Obama summarises the whole situation pretty well :

” Look, I dont give a damn about you, I don’t give a damn about Iran and for sure I dont give a damn about Israel and its pesty leadership. I’m busy here trying to get reelected and if America will go down in the process, so be it. I’m ready to close a deal with Putin and leave the eastern Europe to hell and i’ll close a deal with the iranians, leaving Israel in its deep shit it cooked for itself.
Nothing will disturb me now from my presidency. And from my golf course, of course.”

And, importantly ,this also means that if Israel does attack the Obama administration will stop our military from resupplying the IDF. Meanwhile, China and Russia will be more than happy to resupply Iranian forces because the leaders of those countries love to rake in the cash. Yes, we are surrounded by our enemies and we have no allies. This is just what Iran needs to know and will now unleash some of its terrorists forces against Israel. Every friend of Israel, every Jew, should donate as much money as possible to the IDF making sure it has the ability to purchase whatever it needs to sustain a lengthy war.

Well, this was unexpected. If Israel does attack, it might be considered a “rogue state”. If it doesn`t, the world will say Israel`s power is nothing without the support of the USA.

This was the obviously only thing that would happen. It baffles me how anybody can still believe USA is an ally of Israel (meant to be US Gov. not the exactly the citizens), they are not.
Israel is alone, as always was and always be -this is shameful, for decent people around the world would quickly recognize the rigth of Israel to defend itself, but as said before, decent people and governments are two different things.

I hope this gets a lot of publicity in the American media and on internet. Obama is a coward, and a traitor to Western civilization, and he must be exposed as such.

Slowly but surely the Israeli leadership is waking up to the real world: No war of choice, no preemptive attack against a non-existing nuclear weapons program, no more tail wagging the dog, the show is over, please use the exits at the back of the theater

      “the show is over”.
Like when not a single government dared attack Nazi Germany in the early 1930s, because the re-militarization was of course non-existent. For people (cowards, idealists,…) who thought in the short term, yes, the show seemed over for a few years. They could sleep peacefully at night, dream beautiful dreams, and smile ecstatically all day long. Until reality turned into a nightmare.
You do not want to learn from history. You must have been fed too many happy endings by Hollywood. As if destructive mad men have disappeared from the face of the Earth with the defeat of Nazi Germany ! As if the atomic bomb could not be possessed (and eventually used) by mad men ! Look at the North Korean dictatorship : everybody laughs when thinking about that country because they look like outdated caricatures of bad guys in a crappy TV series…but they are for real and could go ballistic any day. Too many people unconsciously cannot face this reality. Laughter becomes a kind of self-defense against the craziest aspects of reality.
Can humanity afford to let more insane dictators acquire atomic bombs ? Only inconsequential men answer positively.

The whole resupply issue might make the Israelis strike with a bigger strike then they had planned. As they have one shot to take it all down as they might not have the resources to carry on a prolonged action.

For the record Israel never stands alone. And it is not the U.S. that is Israel’s real benefactor. Though the U.S. has been used as a tool to look after Israel for many years. It is Israel’s maker that is looking after her. I can take you through battle after battle that there is no way that the Israelis should have even survived. Yet not only did they survive they routed their enemies.

the obama administration indeed are fools to believe that an attack by israel on iran and their comment that the u.s.a. will not join israel in said attack is going to be accepted by the ayatollahs.the iranian regime already knows that the u.s.a. is complicit -to use gen dempsey’ word of an attack by israel.all of the u.s.a. military build up in the middle east and in israel itself is telling.actions speak louder than words.

A few of things are very clear: 1) The Obama administration will allow Iran to become nuclear armed hoping–against rationality–that deterrence will prevail. This is naive and just plain stupid and is driven by the thinking of the political scientist Kenneth Waltz who believes that a fully nuclear Middle East would develop an equilibrium, mutual deterrence and thus peace. The problem with Waltz, who is deified by two generations of political scientists is that his theory sees states as billiard balls on the table (undifferentiated units) not as states that have internal politics driving policy much of the time. Furthermore he also assumes–mistakenly–that rationality will prevail once a nation gets nuclear weapons. 2) Obama will initiate an American strike if and only if his advisers believe that it will give him a larger slice of the undecided “independent” vote that will allow him to win the election; 3) Obama’s closest adviser Valerie Jarret was born in Shiraz which is close to the Ardakan Uranium production facility. While not as important a target as Natanz, for example, it would be on the “long” target list. The question is if Jarret, who has Obama’s ear, has convinced him that the Iranian Government is rational, and more importantly convinced him that an Israeli or American attack would not work or make things worse. Note how during the Green Movement demonstrations how Obama did absolutely nothing. The subtle gesture of wearing a green tie one day would have given the movement a boost, especially after the shooting of the young woman. Social revolutions need a turning event that galvanizes the population against the authorities. Obama had a perfect event and he said nothing, did nothing, heard nothing. Was Jarret behind this betrayal of a genuine movement that sought an end to the regime? 4) The longer both the US and Israel wait, the larger the attack must be to succeed, more casualties will be seen on both sides and the campaign will last longer which will cause more economic disruption. Most importantly, the longer Israel and/or the US wait the greater the probability that BeBe will be forced into the EMP option, and unless we see small multiple EMP attacks Iran will be mess and a new era of warfare will be upon us. Obama will allow and by inaction encourage this to happen while Romney will not.

    • Luis's avatar Luis Says:

For Jarrett, Iran is her place of birth. Anybody here has any doubts what she will recommend to the president should a military option arise? The Bin Laden Operation was postponed because of her three times.
For Israel, her dark personality is bad news. For America, she is nothing less than a catastrophe.
