The majority of Americans support President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration order, a Morning Consult/Politico poll has found.
The order, issued on Jan. 27, imposes strict limitations on the entry of individuals from seven majority-Muslim countries — Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen — to the United States.
The survey, held between Feb. 2 and Feb. 4, polled 2,070 registered voters and found that 55% said they approve of the order, while only 38% said they disapprove of the move.
Opinions about the order fell along party lines, with 82% of Republicans supporting the ban, and 65% of Democrats opposing it.
The controversial ban has been challenged in court, and last Friday U.S. District Judge James Robart issued a stay against the immigration order, which Trump insists is crucial to U.S. security.
According to The New York Times, a panel of three appellate judges from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to issue its final ruling on the order later this week.
The poll also found that 49% of Americans approve of the executive order to delay implementing parts of the Affordable Care Act, while 41% disapproved of it. Repealing Obamacare was one of Trump’s main campaign promises.
