A brave new world

Watching the inauguration ceremony of newly sworn-in U.S. President Donald Trump, I was deeply moved. I felt that this was a powerful event and a defining moment that could potentially change the world and give hope to all defenders of freedom, truth and security worldwide.

In his book “The Decline of the West,” philosopher Oswald Spengler wrote of his belief that democracy was leading Western civilization towards annihilation. Indeed, Spengler’s analysis predicting the West’s decline was accurate; however, he was wrong about the reasons for it. It was not the system of government that failed, but rather its leaders who have been conveying weakness, fatigue and flaccidity — leaders who repressed the desire for power and life and distorted the truth in the name of political correctness.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama’s responsibility for the degeneration of the West is crucial. The U.S., which was once the most important fortress defending Western civilization, has waived its historical role and rattled the entire world order. An American president who did not know the difference between truth and lie, world order and chaos, freedom fighters and despicable terrorists, is leaving behind him nothing more than shades of gray.

Trump was elected by millions of Americans, who got tired of empty words, aimless capitulation and arrogant liberalism that has no connection to reality. During his presidential election campaign, Trump, who was facing a hostile media and old establishment, gave the masses the sense that he has the ability to restore the good old glory days of the United States.

That very strong sense of hope drove people to vote for him — a democratic right, which they did not bother to exercise in the previous elections.

As the American national anthem was sung, amid star-spangled banners waving in the cold air of the Washington winter and soldiers at the military parade shouldering their weapons, many across the globe were looking up to a brighter future, one that entails vision and action, silk and steel, beliefs and reality.

The detached, conceited American media outlets, possessing attitude strikingly similar to the one exhibited by the Israeli media, have not given Trump even one moment of grace and continue to fan the flames of animosity toward him. Well, Trump does not need the media’s favors, as many in the U.S. have come to understand who it is that the press serves.

As an Israeli, I am convinced that after eight years of drought, challenging, yet exciting times of diplomatic hope are awaiting our country. A brave new world will rise like the dawn emerging in all its glory from the darkness that is disappearing in these very moments. I believe in honesty, integrity and Trump’s leadership in dealing with the victim-playing Palestinians, the hypocritical Europeans and the Iranians, who duped Obama and former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry into inking a bad nuclear deal.

Good luck, President Trump. Do it your way and change the world so it will be a better, safer place to live in for future generations.
