The Foreign Minister sounds nervous, and… all his huffing and puffing aside, perhaps he should. After being so pleasantly surprised at the ease with which Russia re-established a major presence in the Middle East, without the least bit of opposition from the US or Turkey, why do I suspect that it’s not “stability” in Syria that Putin is dreaming of, but the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.

Perhaps the Russian bear has suddenly seen an opportunity to satisfy a long-deferred craving for Turkey.

Perhaps thousand year old dreams really can come true.
A Russia from Archangel to the Persian Gulf, and perhaps even from Dublin to Vladivostok would make Putin the greatest Russian Tsar of all time.
