Russian Missile Deal with Iran Means ‘Military Option Dead’

(I wouldn’t say a military option is completely dead, it’s just a tad more difficult. – LS)
Iranian news sources are reporting that negotiations with Russia to buy the S-300 surface-to-air missile systems were “successful.”
Western officials say delivery of the system would essentially eliminate the military option to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
During a press conference Monday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the missiles will be delivered as soon as possible.
Amir-Abdollahian spoke after a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, in Moscow.
Since 2007, Russia has repeatedly threatened to sell the system to Iran but relented under Western pressure. On April 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a presidential decree facilitating the sale of the missile system.

a PARTICULAR military option may be less feasible. let us not forget that during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Israel took catastrophic air force losses in the early stages of the conflict. This was due to the lethal AA fire generated by Russian supplied SAM batteries. Israeli commanders planned and executed effective ground operations to capture and destroy SAM batteries, subsequently clearing the way for the IAF to operate with little or no hindrance. Long, seemingly endless convoys of captured Syrian and Egyptian SAM batteries in the North, and South were observed.

“Jerusalem (AFP) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Tuesday that a nuclear-armed Iran would be “a thousand times more dangerous and more destructive” than the Islamic State group, his office said.
“As horrific as ISIS is, once Iran, the preeminent terrorist state of our time, acquires nuclear weapons, it will be a hundred times more dangerous, a thousand times more dangerous and more destructive than ISIS,” Netanyahu said, referring to IS.”
The why the #u£k didn’t you do something years ago when the threat was much more manageable!
“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

Netanyahu: “We will not allow Iran to become a nuclear state.”
Israel, explain US administration officials, has already come to terms with the fact that a nuclear deal with Iran will be signed within the next two months or so, and Jerusalem is readying for the day after. And indeed, the Israel Defense Forces’ Planning Directorate is drawing up a long list of so-called “compensation components” intended to bolster Israel’s security in the wake of the deal with Iran as well as the arms deals between the United States and Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States.
Pathetic.
