Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported Saturday that President Barack Obama blocked an Israeli air force attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities in 2014, Ma’an reported.

Al-Jarida quoted “well-placed” sources that said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had decided to carry out air strikes against Iran’s nuclear program after consultations with minister of defense Moshe Ya’alon, foreign minister Avigdor Liberman and the IDF brass.

The decision came, according to al-Jarida, in response to U.S. and Iran secret talks—behind Israel’s back—over Iran’s nuclear program.

According to the report, Netanyahu et al agreed after four nights of deliberations (not 1,000 nights, mind you) to assign IDF chief of staff Benny Gantz the preparation of an attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The same sources said Gantz prepared the plan, for which Israeli fighter jets trained over several weeks, including test flights in Iran’s airspace, after breaking through its radar.

However, goes the Al-Jarida report, a certain Israeli minister “who has good ties with the U.S. administration,” revealed Netanyahu’s plans to Secretary of State John Kerry, and, as a result, Obama threatened to shoot down those pesky Israeli jets before they could reach their targets in Iran.

As a result, Netanyahu had to abort the operation and since then relations between Israel and the United States have been declining, concludes the report.

The rest is history.

    I ain’t buying it.

Hussein might even say such a thing, but both him and the Israelis know he could never order such a thing without being impeached and removed from office.

There are some crimes even the Rats can’t protect him for, even though it may not seem like it now the way he has already shredded the Consitution over and over.

Hell, yes, I can see such a move. In terms of tactics, just call it delayed payback for the USS Liberty. There are still many in the U.S. who can recall that one. Talk about ‘Never Forget’. Indeed! The Israeli genius who pulled the trigger may have but sown the seed for delayed retribution from the hands of Dems and Republicans alike. Better late than never, eh?

As for strategy, perhaps not such a hot deal. But proxies can be found (and bought) from Bucharest to Beersheba, from Kyiv to Khartoum.

      Let’s see how it plays.

I agree Mark. Besides, certain parties behind this ‘exclusive report’ may have more to gain by widening the rift between the White House and Israel. Not only that, I find it hard to believe the Israelis would make a test run into Iranian airspace just to test their ability to detect an attack. That’s like running unarmed into the woods before a deer hunt to see if the deer are paying attention.

One of my favorite bloggers said it quite well:

“Right up front, even though there are multiple outlets talking about this story today, there simply isn’t enough information available to say how much credibility we should lend this report at the moment. It’s apparently sourced from an Israeli news outlet who is quoting a Kuwaiti paper who is quoting a nameless source. I’ve yet to see anyone else with direct knowledge of the alleged events stepping up to verify it.”

While entirely possible for someone such as Obama to do, I remain somewhat skeptical. Yet the Drudge Report and other big news sites are headlining this article without verification from another source.
