Al Qaeda terrorists entered the city of Jalula in the eastern part of the country, near the border with Iran, after the Iraqi Army abandoned the city and only the Kurds were left to keep a number of buildings. The US evacuated its forces from the Baghdad area, but will Iran intervene?

The Iraqi Army abandoned its positions in Jalula in the Kurdish region in the eastern part of the country, near the border with Iran, and opened the way for Islamist terrorists from Al Qaeda to take over the city. Reuters reported that Kurdish militias reinforced the Kurdish party’s headquarters within the city.

Not only the Iraqi Army retreated, as the US military command ordered the evacuation of all US Army soldiers stationed at the base of the Iraqi Air Force, following the progress of Al Qaeda forces south towards the capital city of Iraq.

The terrorist organization the Islamic State in Iraq that has taken over large parts of Iraq and Syria issued a threat to his opponents: “We are on the way to Baghdad to settle our scores with the stupid Shia leadership.” So far, the terrorist organization has taken over vast areas of Iraq, including the cities of Mosul and Tikrit.

It is possible that neighboring Iran cannot remain indifferent to what is happening in Iraq. Iranian President Rouhani stated yesterday that his country “will fight terrorism in the region and the world” in respect to the situation with Iraq.
