Dempsey: Israel believes U.S. will strike Iran if necessary | Army Times | armytimes.com.
ABOARD A GOVERNMENT AIRCRAFT — Israel and the United States are now in broad agreement about the threat that Iran poses to the region and how to deal with it, the top U.S. military official said Tuesday.
“I think they are satisfied that we have the capability to use a military option if the Iranians choose to stray off the diplomatic path,” Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said of Israeli officials. “I think they are satisfied we have the capability. I think they believe we will use it.”
Acknowledging there were differences in the past, Dempsey said Israel and the United States are closer now in their assessment of the threat Iran poses and America’s willingness to act.
Dempsey made the remarks after wrapping up a two-day visit to Israel, where he met with military and government officials.
The international community has reached an agreement with Iran to lessen sanctions against the country in return for curbing its nuclear program.
In the past, Israeli officials have expressed wariness about the international accord with Iran and also disagreed with the United States at times over the pace at which Iran could field a nuclear weapon. Israel had raised the prospect of a unilateral attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“Our clocks are more harmonized than they were two years ago,” Dempsey said.
“They just wanted to know that we are maintaining and continuing to refine our military options,” he said.

Iran will go the way of North Korea and Pakistan if not stopped by Israel. And that is the goal of the Iranian leadership. There is no military option for the United States unless there is a direct threat to American security. Both Iran and the United States know that Iran can be obliterated from the face of the earth by U.S. military power, and Iran will not confront the U.S. directly. The initial use of the newly acquired nukes by Iran will be to intimidate Israel and other countries in the middle east.Genral Dempsey while an honorable man and a wise military leader-has advised President Obama to avoid a war with Iran. Moreover,General Dempsey is not a policymaker. The ultimate decision to go to war is President Obama’s decision along with his inner circle of advisors of which Gen. Dempsey is part of. The jews as it has been said here in this web site by many others cannot afford to place their security in the hands of anyone else except their own. While the problem of a nuclear Iran is and should be a world problem with the nations cooperating in thwarting this Iranian goal-the task will fall and fall heavily on Israel to stop Iran.

I have to admit Carlos, there is truth in what you say. There will a point at which Iran will have to be stopped in a forceful manner. Left to it’s own devices, Iran’s actions as a nuclear power will quickly become intolerable to the world. It’s inevitable. What the political landscape will be at that fateful time is anyone’s guess.
Now Iran has brazenly appointed one of the American embassy hostage takers as a diplomat to the UN. I just saw an interview with one of the victims held in captivity for 444 days and listened to his response. He was furious with Iran AND the Obama administration for even dealing with these folks. All I could think about during the interview was what will it be like when Iran gets the bomb.
It’s time Iran is held accountable in a direct and forceful manner, not with proxies, not with lame negotiations. Sadly, it’s going to take some catastropic event to get a serious response. Many innocents may have to pay the price for all this inaction. How long has Iran gotten a free pass….almost 40 years now? It’s almost as if it were intentional to avoid upsetting Iran.

Hey, think about it. I’m inclined to think Dempsey is a good man and in the pro-Israel camp, so… what should he said if he wanted to help Israel in the Iran issue?
That Israel is a good boy who believes Obumah will attack, and blah blah blah. This way, US is relieved, Israel gets rid off incountable high-level visits from scared US functionaries, so Israel can prepare the big hit in a better way.

Have been reading this for more than a decade already. It is not going to happen, because it is not polite (and illegal) to attack a country because it refuses to stop enriching uranium. Russia wouldn’t like it either, considering it sees Iran as an ally protecting its southern flank.
