Off Topic: Happy Greek Independence Day
Today we Greeks celebrate our independence day.
On March 17, 1821 the Maniots (the descendants of the Spartans) were the very first to rise up in rebellion and on March 25, 1821 the revolution to liberate Greece from the Ottoman yoke was proclaimed.
Following a bloody war of independence under the motto “Liberty or death”, in 1829 Greece was the first country of the Ottoman Empire to gain its independence.
I always found inspiration in the fact that my people after almost 400 years of oppression finally fought and gained its freedom.
This story is as inspiring as the story of the return of the Jewish people to its homeland after 2000 years of exile.
To all the Greeks out there: Happy independence day.
To all the others: May this day be an inspiration in your struggle for freedom and in the defense of your liberty.

Thank you, Joop.
I believe in the power of ideas.
There is no idea that is more powerful than the idea of freedom.

I hope America’s Independence Days from now on won’t be farcical celebrations of horrible irony. A country in decline under an increasingly tyrannical and imperial government with big brother in charge.
A big brother that is determined to destroy world order and abandon America’s (now former?) allies.
A literal Obamanation.

Now, now TB. It’s not that bad yet and will never be if voters like us have their way….and we will. You can bet on it. Your concern is well founded. Sounding the alarm will help awaken the so-called ‘silent majority’. As Obama approaches the end of his political career, his ‘changes’ will decay into mere ‘hopes’. Political resistance is building and his lack of meaningful response on matters that affect us all will be his only remaining course of action (or inaction if I may). The runaway train is running out of tracks.

Happy independence day! Alexander remains a symbol of friendship and deliverance for Jews to this day.
His name is the ONLY non-Jewish one that we name our sons after in his memory.

Thanks Joseph. May this friendship last forever.

Thanks, all you guys.
And to our American friends I want to say:
I’m concerned for America but I know for a fact that the spirit of freedom is still strong in this country.
This country will not go down without a hell of a fight.
They say that every country has the goverment that it deserves. I strongly disagree. You don’t deserve your current leadership. No country in the world deserves it.
The reason why I admire your country so much is that it is build around the idea of freedom and individual liberty.
Freedom, the greatest of all things and the most powerful of all ideas.
There are signs of hope. One of these signs is, that the Democrats will most likely suffer a massive defeat in the 2014 elections.

My parents, your parents, and countless others from their generation sacrificed so much to overcome the tyranny in WWII. They left us with a world worth dying for. Let’s not screw it up.
