TEHRAN – The key to end the conflict in Syria is to control Syria’s borders to prevent arms shipment and entry armed groups into the country, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian suggested in a meeting on Monday with Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN-Arab League envoy for Syria.
Amir Abdollahian, the deputy foreign minister for Arab and African Affairs, and Brahimi also exchanged views on other measures necessary to resolve the crisis in Syria.
Brahimi praised Iran’s regional and international efforts to settle the civil war in Syria in a peaceful way.
The veteran international diplomat suggested that a closer interaction between Iran and regional countries, specifically Saudi Arabia, would be very helpful in ending the conflict in Syria.
Amir Abdollahian appreciated efforts made by Brahimi to resolve regional crises specifically the Syria conflict, saying that Iran will support such efforts.
He elaborated on Iran’s four-point plan to help resolve the Syrian crisis through a political solution.
The top Iranian diplomat said Tehran will discuss the details of the plan with Brahimi before presenting it to other parties.
Brahimi arrived in Tehran late on Sunday to hold talks with Iranian officials on the Syrian crisis.
