  1. The Russian considerations in deploying the S-300 are :
    1. Buying time for the Hezbollah heavy armament by Syria e.g. Chemical weapons, middle-range SAM and long-range artillery,
i.e. until the Syrian S-300 deployment is destroyed by Israel.
This armament is in preparation to revenge on or to deter from an attack on Iran, in both cases supporting the below consideration:
    2. Improving the Russian geopolitical status.
If Israel fails to destroy the S-300 batteries soon, either not trying or not succeeding, then Russia might bet on deploying such systems in Iran too. Details here: http://essential-intelligence-network.blogspot.com/2013/05/middle-east-on-brink.html
